We stopped here on the way to Kippford. We knew we had stumbled on a gem when we saw how busy it was.
The food was tasty, service was pleasant and the atmosphere was warm and inviting.
My wife and i enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea at the Abbey Cottage today.
The afternoon tea consisted of freshly made sandwiches of your choice , fruit or plain scone with clotted cream and jam and a choice of different sponge cakes along with a pot of tea. It may be advisable to book the afternoon tea in advance as we did.
The Abbey Cottage has all the best attributes of a traditional tea room The staff were welcoming , conversational and friendly. The premises were very clean. The food itself was a treat.
There is a convenient car park behind the cottage which also serves as the car park for the ruin of Sweetheart Abbey which is next to the cottage.
In addition to the tearoom the cottage also has a shop selling locally produced goods.
The Abbey cottage is very much worth visiting if you are in the area.
This little gem is down near the town clock it has couple of tables outdoors and obviously in doors it opens at 10 am and offers hot rolls fresh scones amoungst many other delicious delights including cakes lots of cakes and great coffee and soups etc I opted for bacon roll with scone and a coffee they have coffee loyalty card too absolutely delicious my servers were Linda and Denise both excellent service providers food was amazing scone still warm definitely will return and recommend
I'm aware the house o'hill has just opened back up but our experience was as if we had just walked into faulty towers, there was a boss lady trying to take orders but didn't have a clue, a boss man that just wanted to stand at pizza counter and do nothing and a poor girl stuck on till not knowing how to work till and don't forget jack and Victor in the kitchen, there was 6 tables with people sitting and you thought there was 36 most meals came out late and wrong, also no alcohol sold people will wait for a meal if there drinking alcohol but not if there drinking coke, food was basic but good when we eventually got it, for the life of me I don't know what the problem was cause me and my wife could have served and cooked what was sitting on Saturday night ourselves with no help, I really hope they can turn this round
I visited Thomas Tosh last week while passing through Thornhill. Delighted to see that my favourite lemon and raisin cake is back on the menu, and that as always, the coffee, service and general atmosphere is good as ever! Thanks again to the staff, will be back next time I’m in the area
Came across this place randomly. Did not disappoint. Decided to go to southerness after a day at Caerlaverock castle. Had been to the lighthouse over 20 years ago and wanted a trip down memory lane. Stumbled on this place. Sat outside to have a drink in the warm sun. Had look at menu and ordered Cajun chicken macaroni. Massive portion and delicious. Place was busy which is surprising as it feels like middle of nowhere. If you are down this way then the Paul jones bar and grill is a must. Cater for dogs too.
Staff very kind hygenic easy access very good food all homemade meals healthy choices and the sour dough toast with poached egg and bacon speaks for itself.
The staff were superb very friendly and the food was outstanding compliments to the chef and staff for a pleasurable place to eat and drink it's a must if your within 100 miles ov the cock inn only joking if you're close enough please give it a go you will not be disappointed thanks again to everyone
We came with some friends and the children prior to the Christmas light switch on. It took an hour from us arriving to getting our food so sadly the children missed the switch on. The food was good though, and the kids eating free was a bonus. Service time was the only let down.
Popped in for a Sunday Guinness to find everyone tucking into ENORMOUS Yorkshire puddings stuffed with braised beef, roast spuds, veg and gravy. We succumbed to the glorious smell of the food and it beat us, hands down, great food, great service. The two girls working in there are gold dust, give them a raise!!
I don’t even know what the place looks like but from what I seen from all the reviews and photos and stuff, the place is really nice and I would most definitely go if I could, tell kyran I said hi
Small starter portions, I had Chicken Milanese for main and the chicken was nice but the sauce on the pasta was god dam awful. Tasted like tinned tomatoes and nothing else. Total waste of money, especially as I was told before hand the 2 for £16 menu was on and then told when I was there it was not so it was £16 for my main on its own. Staff seemed quite short tempered too. Don't think I will be visiting again.
Awesome breakfast - so much choice - perfectly cooked ! Can’t recommend highly enough
Cakes fresh and plentiful
Lush coffee
Will defo return when back in the area
