Lando's Restaurant in Dumfries & Galloway

Small starter portions, I had Chicken Milanese for main and the chicken was nice but the sauce on the pasta was god dam awful. Tasted like tinned tomatoes and nothing else. Total waste of money, especially as I was told before hand the 2 for £16 menu was on and then told when I was there it was not so it was £16 for my main on its own. Staff seemed quite short tempered too. Don't think I will be visiting again.

Our hotel said there was no need today book for supper in dining room but we found it full so looked elsewhere and found this. Excellent pizza and salad after several days of pub food.

Visited yesterday evening…been out and about all day- windswept being an understatement -and didn’t feel that we were presentable to sit in….so we requested a takeaway. Wow, excellent service…15 mins later delivered to our car outside..arrived back at our holiday accommodation and we both enjoyed the delicious food. Could not fault it. Would definitely recommend.

Great food, really slow service, as my title the food here is really good! I sat for an hour waiting on my starter then a further 35 minutes for my main. The meals I had chosen were not complicated but just pizza. It was busy with lots of takeaways and I feel these prioritised over sit in. Badly managed staff from what I had noticed and it has been this way for years.

The food was great however the wait time in this restaurant is diabolical. Myself and my family came all the way from glasgow for a holiday and after our day of travel we came to get a takeaway here, however the manager took our payment and then said it’s going to be a half an hour wait after they told us to come at 6:30. We waited for 30 mins and then had to wait inside for a further 20 mins. If you want decent customer service and food at a reasonable time don’t come here.

Back in Landos for an early dinner for the first time in ages. Food and service as good as always. Excellent value for money and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Had the best Sea Bass I think I've ever had , at a very reasonable price. Great restaurant, great staff would highly recommend

Lovely warm greeting at the door, restaurant was very busy and space was found for us. What a gem! Fantastic restaurant. Chicken and haggis wrapped in panchetta with whiskey sauce, extremely very yum. Deborah had Sea bass which was amazing. Fat, full and delighted. Catered for our dairy intolerence brilliantly. If you are using Stena from Cairnryan to Belfast or vice versa and staying in Straraer this restaurant is a must visit. Thank you

We ordered , then we were told what we’d ordered wasn’t available , then we changed the order and added haggis , which never arrived. What did arrive was very good , they use a local butcher and the meat was excellent , maybe some new wait staff , first girl seemed a bit nervous , still everyone has to learn and we had a good night

From the take away menu left in our accommodation I wasn’t expecting anything great. How wrong could I be! It was busy when we arrived around 7pm on Friday, but we were shown to a table. There is huge choice of foods, including traditional Italian pizzas and pastas, plus burgers and more traditional pub food. I had chicken stuffed with haggis, wrapped in prosciutto with beautifully cooked veg and excellent hand cut chips. My husband had lasagne. The food was absolutely delicious. So tasty and beautifullly cooked and presented. Lovely staff and very good value.

A serendipitous meeting with a man in a sauna in the North West castle hotel led to dinner at this great wee Italian restaurant in Stranraer. I commented that there appeared to be a lack of decent eating places in the town. The nameless man ,a local, suggested Lando`s where he and his wife had eaten many times . The vibe is warm and welcoming. We had the Seared King Prawn starter which came in a delicious spicy sauce followed by San Rocco pasta for me and Rigatoni Filetto Salsiccia for my husband. The fillet steak was of excellent quality, tender and tasty and my generous pasta dish was full of flavour .A bottle of reasonably priced red wine completed the experience. Service was good and very friendly. We would go there again if we are ever in Stranaer.

Great pizza and happy for us to take our dog. Unfortunately they didn’t have a table available when desired so we decided to get a takeaway which was delivered on time to our motor home at the nearby campsite

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The prawns were excellent. Fresh and perfectly cooked. Good value. Delicious calzone for the other half and delicious penne with Italian sausage for me. Only gripe is desert menu could do with a few Italian entries. Had a negroni instead!

I am extremely impressed with this restaurant…the staff were so warm, friendly and attentive….the seating was intimate and comfortable and the food was outstanding! I had skewered prawns the sirocco pizza and they were both beautifully cooked with fresh high quality ingredients and superb flavour. It is reasonably priced and well worth a visit.

Booked a table and when we arrived shown to table and ordered drinks which arrived quickly ordered starters which arrived OK after that service was terrible after one hour we still hadn't been served our mains so we decided to leave . We said politely on paying for starters and drinks service was very slow and we were told by person in charge she didn't like our attitude. Will never be back and will never recommend restaurant.

Unpretentious, friendly, good value. Easy walk into town from bnb. Busy wee place, unsurprisingly & popular with families and couples.

We arrived on spec - no booking and despite being busy we were accommodated. As we were rushing to board a ferry we were served very quickly and the quality of the food was excellent. Four of us got delicious meals and we were sorry we couldn’t linger over our food. Can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough

Left after 1hr 15min as there was still no sign of our food appearing. It wasn't a gourmet meal we had ordered only a pasta and a calzone. Sorry but we will never eat at landos again and we will definitely not recommend it to any of our friends. Very poor service.

What an excellent place to dine. Discovered on Tripadvisor and turned out better than expected in fact the best meal of trip. Staff were very friendly and food fresh and appetising.

I enjoyed my pizza here. The menu offered a good choice of dishes but I selected a pizza and dessert from the set menu which offered good value. Unfortunately the draft cider was off but the lager was great. Staff were attentive and served with a smile. They were clearly working hard for everyone! Chocolate fudge cake was great too!

We came here a few years ago. We think it may have changed owners ? No the same , won’t be returning . We has pasta . Very tasteless , there was no love made with this food . And what’s the steak all about ? Sliced steak just placed ontop of a pasta dish ? New one on us !! The bruschetta was one small round bit of what seemed like french stick ….. No very disappointing

As a regular diner at Landos I have never been dissapointed, howevertonight's s dinner was exceptionally good ! the tastiest Cajun Chicken pasta that I have tasted in a long time and my sister really enjoyed the Lasagne. Thankyou Lorena and team.

We booked a large group meal at Lando's this week for a family reunion. Lorena was more than helpful with any of our requests. Food was pre-ordered and came promptly. Unpretentious place, smart, tidy facade. Pleasant young staff, prices very reasonable. Would go back when in Stranraer. Previous reviewer bemoaned the lack of Italian authenticity but though it could be true, we ignored that and were very pleased.

We were staying in a farmhouse in Dunragit and rather then venture out ordered takeaway. Food was hot when it arrived and very high quality and delicious. We had pizza, pasta, fish and chips and a burger box. All yummy!! Highly recommend.

We haven’t been in since June and the menu has been tweaked, tried a new pizza with meatballs and chili peppers - could have blown my head away! I had to leave some of the chili’s but really enjoyed, brave of a small town restaurant but may want to put on a health warning. Thanks as ever to the staff for squeezing us in and giving such great service.

Premetto che sono Italiana e non sono avvezza a mangiare italiano all'estero per cui non avevo grandi aspettative. Abbiamo preso bruschetta, un misto antipasti italiani e due pizze. Il tutto discreto e avrei dato 3 stelle se non fosse stato per il bagno delle signore. Pavimento non proprio pulito e con qualche animaletto morto ma, soprattutto e inconcepibile, nessuna delle due porte si chiudeva. Una completamente priva di ogni chiusura, l'altra con un lucchetto a scorrimento che non arrivava a bloccare la porta.

The outside didn't look very promising, but when we walked in, we found a lovely bistro with simple, understated decor and fresh, nicely cooked food, including steamed vegetables that were still a bit crisp (not overcooked!).

Ordered food and was told 25mins, arrived on time to be told it would be another 15mins. It has now been 1hr 5mins since I placed my order. We ordered 2x pizzas,a burger and lasagna, not exactly anything challenging. Your better going to Papa Rabs down the road

I have to be honest I only ate here because my favourite Chinese was full. So glad it was, I had a lovely meal started with mussels which as it happens weren't on the starter menu but they were kind enough to accommodate me they were beautiful. For my main I had porcini mushroom and pancetta pasta no joke it was incredible couldn't fault it. The staff were very nice as well the young girl who served me was very friendly and gave good advice on what to eat. Will definitely be calling again top Mark's all round.

This place is a surprising gem in Stranraer. Food was delicious. Our group had pizza, pasta and a chicken with haggis dish. Everything was lovely. Service was unobtrusive and friendly.

Arrived 5o'clock for early bird.Party of four,ordered two starters+mains & two mains+desserts.Received starters after about 20mins.At 5.55 the waitress informed us that the two burgers ordered as main courses were not available(55 minutes after ordering).Had to order two alternatives,which was a further wait.Far better alternatives to eat locally with far better service.Wont be back.

We had to wait about 40 minutes for our food but it was worth waiting for, excellent food and atmosphere. Very busy so I would say book on a weekend! A All the staff were friendly.

Have eaten in before but only found out recently about the take away service

One of the worst places we have been. Incompetent staff. We waited 30mins to have our order taken while customers who had come in after us where being served. We had dirty plates handed to us for our starter platter. After 40 mins wait for our main we had to ask for it. It came with out our chips which eventually arrived when we had finished our food. We had coffee which we left because it was so weak. Not once did any server ask if everything was ok. My husbands chicken was so dry he left hungry.The staff spent all the time chatting amongst themselves at the bar area. The owners need to review the running of this place.

My wife and I hade a good evening meal here, I would highly recommend a visit when you next in the town. There was however one downside the staff were not very helpful and could have been more friendly.

I ate there twice last week whilst working locally. The food and staff were quite literally outstanding. I chose typical British fayre from the menu and it was good quality wholesome tasty food accompanied by fresh great tasting vegetables. To demonstrate how good it is I ordered the cheeseboard and witnessed the Kitchen Porter pop out to buy some cheese and crackers to supplement what was missing. When the board came it was a good portion accompanied by plenty of fresh fruit. Greatly impressed by the level of service.

After the eventful day that should not really happen during holidays, we have decided to go out for a nice meal. We were a group of 7, ages 4 to nearly 70. The place is simply but friendly done up, the staff are lovely and professional as well as friendly. The food was fantastic, especially Spaghetti Frutti di Mare. We also ordered pizzas, including kids' one and lasagne. Food freshly prepared, tasty and simply delicious. The prices are average, not too high unlike the food. Strongly recommended.

Had a birthday meal here with my fiancé, our 3 kids and my mum in law! Had Haggis cakes to start delicious and they had goats cheese looked lovely! Had Pizza for main course stunning! It was very delicious! Kids had the same a pizza! Welll cooked and tasty fries were lovely as well! Only thing I would say was table we were sat on I felt wasn’t big enough but I think they had a lot of bookings! Also food took a wee while but maybe I’m just being to picky! Looking forward to returning!

Had a really good meal here, starters delicious; I had bruschetta which was lovely and my husband had breaded prawns which he really enjoyed. We followed up with pizzas, seafood for him which he said was the best he had eaten and could taste all the flavours of smoked salmon, prawns and calmari . I had a veggie pizza with jalopenas which was great. All the food was freshly made, service quick and efficient and the restaurant it self is very pleasant. We will be back!

We spent a weekend just outside Stranraer and ate at Landos on the Sunday evening.

Great value meal for a family of 4. 3 of us had mushrooms to start and 1 had soup followed by 4 x 10" pizzas. There was a good variety of toppings available and all were filling, meaning we could not manage any deserts! The service was really friendly, polite & quick. Excellent little place for a great night out

We live in Manchester but stay near Stranraer on a regular & Lando's has become a regular haunt for us as a family. Good quality food, decent portion sizes (you wont leave hungry!) and service is great & good value - what more do you need???
