Claudios Restaurant in Dumfries & Galloway

We were very disappointed last night. Been here lots over the years but last night the food was mediocre at best. The calamari looked good and was ok but it was quite rubbery. The chicken was dry and over cooked with a risotto that was just a pile of very salty plain mush. Couldn't comment on the flavour due to the salt. But no bite at all to the rice. We come here at least every year as we met here years ago and the food is normally exceptional. Maybe they have changed chef recently? Not sure we'll carry on this tradition now😞

Last minute decision, poor experience, long waiting time

Brilliant service, excellent food.

Visited on a Friday evening as we were staying in the town for the weekend. I had tried to book in advance by FB messenger but didn't get any response for some reason (technology !!) ..... so we called whilst walking past late afternoon and managed to book a table for the evening. Restaurant located within walking distance of the main street and laid out across a number of rooms and conservatory. Our table was in one of the rooms fired by a lovely wood burner, tables and chairs are lovely old, solid wood and add to the atmosphere. Menu has lots of options and waiter also explained specials they had on whilst we ordered drinks. We started with sharing some Calamari which was really nice and tasty. For mains, my wife chose the Spaghetti Vongole with Clams and I've never seen her clear a plate with such vigour, she talked about it all weekend !! I went for the special which was a Wild Boar ragout served with creamy Mash and was lovely, rich and very filling. No room for pudding !! Meal with bottle of wine well priced under £60 in total ..... Would deffo recommend a visit if you are in the area

Unfortunately we were charged £4.50 for three small pieces of garlic bread. As there were two of us I asked for another slice. We were charged an extra 50p. Sorry I didn’t leave a tip as that was very petty ….

Had the calamari to start, pizza and chicken as a main. Was ok, and we were greatful they took us without a booking, the pizza was a little under done and the sauce with the chicken was a bit salty but not too bad. The chicken was served with a kind of hash brown, not "potatoes" in the traditional sense. A little bit pricey but not so bad. I would go back and try a pasta or risotto next time.

Visit every year for out kids birthdays. Food is always spot on, Claudios never disappoints. Friends staff, great atmosphere & very clean. Only years we missed in February were during the pandemic even then we ordered takeaway when that was allowed.

I was with eight friends returning from holiday and staying in Moffat overnight. Two of my friends had visited this restaurant before and booked in last April as they know it gets busy. Well, the food was excellent; I had homemade minestrone, followed by homemade lasagne, which was truly delicious. I don't normally eat pudding, but there was a homemade panna cotta with rhubarb. It was the best sweet I have ever had truly uplifting. Well done. The waiter and waitresses were also great. I would highly recommend

A wonderful Italian restaurant. The staff here are amazing! They couldn't have been more warm and welcoming to us, and we ended up going quite late, and yet they still served us, and made sure we got pudding too! The staff went above and beyond to make sure my food was prepared safely and separately to avoid cross-contamination, which was very reassuring. I had the gluten-free seafood marinara, but there were so many options to choose from, I must go back! Everyone else really enjoyed their food, the proper coffee was excellent too. It is a little pricy, but we did go in the evening, so that is to be expected. I cannot praise the staff enough for their hospitality. Sadly, I don't have any photos of the food, but it was lovely.

Enjoy a fabulous 2 course early bird meal before heading to an event. Would definitely recommend and seems to be well supported by the local population 👍

This really is the best place to eat in Moffat. Delicious food and lots to choose from to suit all the family. We went twice during our stay in Moffat. I had the chargrilled chicken on one occasion, and ravioli on the other. Both excellent. The staff are very welcoming. Highly recommend.

Claudios has been a family favourite for many years due to the delicious food and friendly service. The restaurant has a very unique feel to its interior, would highly recommend checking this place out for yourself when in Moffat.

Absolutely love Claudios and have been coming for years. There is always a genuinely warm welcome from Davide or Pam and fabulously delicious food courtesy of Claudia and the kitchen staff!

Fantastic wee find. Found this wee restaurant after consulting trip adviser and went last minute. They fitted us in and the food was fantastic. Service also fab. We had pizza and carbonara and shared and both were absolutely delicious. Would definitely go here again if I were visiting Moffat again.

Well that was disappointing we booked a table for 6pm and once we were seated were told that we had to be gone by 8pm as the table was re-booked again and we had to be finished. (Great start) The whole time we sat there the waitress was sorting the clean cutlery throwing it into the containers ready for laying the tables you couldn't here yourself think let alone have a conversation over the din. Then the same women waitresses had such bad attitude and seamed as though they really didn't want to be there and we really didn't appreciate listening to them bad mouthing the clients which left as we where eating our meal. The male waiter was really good and was engaging. The food was edible but decidlbly average. We do not recommend.

What an absolutely amazing restaurant, just had dinner with the family and the only negative is we couldn't order everything on the menu. Can not fault anything, food gorgeous, staff friendly attentive and professional, general ambience truly lovely. The scilian gin is an absolute must. Just looking for reasons to book in again, I'm sure the dog has a birthday coming up! Any excuse to go back. Thank you for helping us have a memorable evening. The Iles family

Absolutely superb restaurant, great food, magnificent service, great value. My one suggestion for improvement is that the “no problem” waiter find a new way to show willingness or ability to deliver great service. He’s a great lad, just vary the responses, to make them feel more genuine. I’d highly recommend folk to try the restaurant.

Perhaps the best pizza and seafood pasta that I have ever tasted. This really is very good food. My only recommendation is to teach the young staff how to open a bottle of wine with a 'waiters friend' corkscrew.

This is the only place I will order a fillet steak as I know it is cooked perfectly and the meat is of a very high quality. The sauces are to die for, I was recommended the Stilton sauce one and it was as good as the rest. Hubby enjoys fish so the sword fish went down very well. Everything on the plate was perfectly cooked and flavoured.

Very nice restaurant friendly staff and possibly the best Italian we've had anywhere. The carbonara was excellent and my wife said it was the best lasagne she had ever eaten. Looking forward to our next visit.

I was surprised. I have been living in Scotland for 8 years now and I have to say that this is definitely the best Italian restaurant I have visited. Not only is the food great, but the cleanliness and ambience are exceptional.

The owner needs to adjust how she rejects her customers when she is unable to seat them for dinner. Dismissive and rude, shame as it would have been nice to try the food. Perhaps she was having an off day but we won’t be trying again. There is a way of saying no we can’t seat you and a “NAT” isn’t it!! You can secure the customer for the next visit with a sympathetic rejection.

A fantastic dining experience. We met up here and were met with a friendly greeting - the staff were very polite and friendly. An extensive menu choice, all of which is great value. The restaurant filled quickly and was very clean and tidy - the food was well presented and did not fail - all meals were delicious. We'd definitely return here, you can't go wrong.

Some of the best Italian style food we have eaten in a long time. All was cooked beautifully with lots of flavour. Portion sizes spot on and a good selection on the menu. Between the 5 of us we had for mains a Rabbie Burns Pizza, Lasagne, Ravioli, spaghetti marinara and Venison steak. We drank a bottle of the Organic red wine (Bin 7) and a couple of beers (peroni bottled). Fabulous service from knowledgeable, friendly staff. The only thing that didn’t score full marks for us was the Apple Crumble. Couldn’t recommend this place more.

Enjoyed a birthday meal with the family. Service was great and quite reasonably priced. Always book for here as super busy. Restaurant was tastefully Christmas decorated. Haven't been for a good few years but won't leave it as long the next time!

Really lovely meal, top quality food, friendly staff/owner. My 14 year old and I had Scallops, butternut squash sauce and courgette fritters to start - amazing! Hubby had caponata - great. Son had steak for main - really tasty and they made him a plainer peppercorn sauce on the side. I had a pizza which was huge and delicious. Hubby had pasta which he polished off. Desserts were Crolla ice creams/sorbet. Highly recommend this gem and will definitely return when we’re back in the area again.

A gem of a place just off the main street. Lovely atmosphere and friendly folks that welcome you from the door to the table. The service was very efficient, a little banter here and there and we were well looked after. Definitely a restaurant worthy of a second and third visit, or a few more.

Excellent freshly prepared food with good sized portions. Friendly staff who did a wonderful job even though restaurant was busy. Nice cosy relaxed atmosphere. Well worth a visit and we will definitely go back. Highly recommend if you’re in Moffat to visit Claudios.

We have been to this restaurant many times. It is a really friendly and welcoming place and all the staff are so helpful. When we discussed where to go to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary there was no discussion, we both wanted to go to Claudios. They were brilliant with a decorated table and a bottle of fizz cooled ready for us, The food is perfectly cooked and the service is 100%.

Loved this restaurant great variety with daily specials. Food was well presented. It wasn't as expensive as we expected. Well worth a visit and I would love to return here and would definitely recommend.

Have eaten here on a number of occasions over the years when in Moffat and were fortunate this time to be able to visit twice. Davide is excellent as front of house with great rapport, Claudia’s food is superb, and all the staff do a good job. On our first visit we had Davide’s recommendations of the specials cod and hake fish cakes then fillet of pork filled with haggis both with wonderful sauces. Next time we chose starters of pasta marinara and mackerel pate wrapped in smoked salmon for mains we both had the special wild boar stew. I even managed the lemon tiramisu for dessert. A perfect end to our holiday

Outstanding service and food for my wife's birthday. Staff coped admirably with my 2 young children while serving delicious Italian food. We would recommend and will definitely be back.

Very good meal here for my birthday. Food was fantastic and owner - who took order - very knowledgeable on each course. Enjoyed the sharing platter as starter and then the chicken dish which was very tender and tasty, with sticky toffee pudding to finish it all off.

What a great end to a 4 week trip round Scotland. A wonderful hostess with the mostess great staff. Lovely atmosphere. Went here only wanting one course but what a great menu. We had 3 courses ending with profiteroles Wow what a really good restaurant

We were staying at the campsite, so had no idea where to choose to eat. I need to eat Gluten Free and ordered a small carbonara for starters and gluten free pizza for main. My husband had a soup and chicken dish. The food was amazing and very reasonable. The service was superb, we are back in March next year so will be booking here again :)

A fantastic find. They were busy but could fit us in with a short wait. Fantastic food, Oooh the garlic sauce! I just wish to apologise for the insulting tip I left. If I had my glasses, I would have seen the card reader was in pence..! Really didn't mean that. Sorry.

We first came to Claudios in 2017 and have been meaning to come back evert since but the stars did not align. Finally made it back and it's as good as ever. The staff are very welcoming, accommodating and friendly and the food is great! Between us we had pizza, gnocchi, sticky toffee pudding and an enormous piece of Tiramisu which was delicious. Will definitely go again and would strongly recommend!

Are here as a family on the happy hour menu. Our food was very tasty, wine delicious, staff helpful and it’s a well presented restaurant. Would return.

I have visited this restaurant on previous occasions and, once again, I enjoyed good food, good wine and good service. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone whether they are on business or visiting the area. However, ensure that you book as they are very popular 😉

Our Saturday night dinner here was the highlight of our overnight stay in Moffatt. It was very busy, but they squeezed us it at short notice. Highly recommend the salmon pasta. It's fun to see the old police cells when you pop to the loo! Generous portions and great service too.

We were staying on the caravan site just a few yards away & found this restaurant by accident. We tried to ring & book a table but they were having telephone problems so we took a chance & called. We were lucky as they had just one table left. We took advantage of the early bird menu which is 2 courses for £16.50. I chose a starter and main, while my partner settled for main & dessert. I picked garlic mushrooms which were probably the best I have ever had and came as a good sized portion in a tomato sauce. My main was spaghetti bolognese which was just as good. It came as a decent size helping with plenty of meat. My partner chose lemon pasta & again it came in a good size helping & she said it was delicious. For dessert she went for pistachio posset-type mousse (from the specials board - can’t remember it’s name). She loved it! Three bottles of Moretti, one bottle of Italian cider & a glass of house white and the bill was about £60.

Another lovely night, we were there with friends and they loved it as well, atmosphere food and staff all make you feel special. Thanks to all.

Second visit and definitely worth it. Food was delicious; service friendly and attentive. Can recommend the calzone and smoked salmon pasta. Liked that I could have a starter portion for my main course, which meant I could enjoy some of their delicious garlic bread. Tiramisu was stunning and I’m told the sticky toffee pudding was also very good. Really reasonably priced too. Worth booking as it was a busy Saturday evening and we had the last table.

First positive impression subsided quickly. Service was faux-polite. Food was bang average. My Salmon pasta had bits of pasta stuck together in clumps and the salmon had long since lost any relationship to a fish. The source was watery and tasted mainly of salt. My partner faired even worse. Pizzas are difficult to mess up but this restaurant managed the task well. A flabby, soggy undercooked mess was what she mainly had to leave. The house wine was particularly bad. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant.

We ate at Claudio's on Saturday night for my husband's birthday & all I can say is WOW! The food (the Haggis Arancini in particular was amazing), the atmosphere & the service was second to none. You are always made to feel welcome & treated like friends. We frequent the restaurant quite a bit, but I never leave a review but everything about Saturday night was outstanding & I had to give praise, where praise is due. Will definitely be back soon to try more of the new menu.

It was a good meal but not excellent food. The lasagne portion was quite scant, the pizza was tasty and the starters were average. We do wish that they wouldn’t always ask the embarrassing question related to leaving a tip, via the credit card transaction....

So disappointed. Langoustines..awful. This was massive let down. Rubber prawns .and very salty. Good service and environment.
