9 of us staying next door at Premier Inn paid for breakfast . Scrambled eggs, never seen them so watery and near white in colour taste disgusting 😝. Fried eggs warm and rock hard. Sausages good bacon not great . Berry fruit lovely coffee OK. Not worth the £9.95 better off in Morrisons across the road. Evening meal worse service very poor chicken dry and uneatable left most of my food and so did others in my party.
Asked to leave as had 2 children and they don’t allow kids on weekends. (Never got asked to leave last time I was there on a Saturday with same small child) but disappointed as I had tried phoning multiple times earlier in the day with no answer. Could have avoided the 1.5hr drive with now two hungry and annoyed kids- and parents who wanted to watch the rugby!
Roads End Cafe is a lifesaver at this time of the year, we were on the NC500 and fancied a bite to eat when we got to John o Groats. It is such a basic cafe but still serves hot toasties/sandwiches, soup and small cakes/scones. The lady that served us was lovely, so welcoming and willing to go the extra mile, she even recommended the haggis and cheese toastie which I couldn't turn down.
Since it was so quiet, it was takeaway only but she let us sit in due to the gale force winds outside. I have to say the toasties are the best I have had in a while and not even that expensive despite the location, absolutely fantastic. It is a little gem if you're looking for something eat when you reach the most northernly point in Scotland!
Dont be put off my first impressions of this hotel.
The hotel is under new ownership and are refurbishing the hotel. The rooms are lovely and modern with wide screen TV . There are four rooms and i belive to be 5 eventually.
The position is stunning right by the water and if you lucky you can see dolphins, seals and otters.
we spent the evening watching the sailing boats going past and the small ferry which runs hourly and the amazing sunset. The new owners are lovely and go out of there way to make you feel welcome.
We will go back for sure .. thank you for the perfect stay
1. We were greeted by crabbit hosts.
2. We were chastised because we arrived late. We could not contact them beforehand because there was no mobile service where we were. We were treated like naughty school children.
3. While they were chastising us they locked the door where the bikes were kept in the hotel and we felt trapped. We were so stunned by their behaviour that we did not say anything. Had we been more alert (after a 50 mile cycle) we would’ve asked to leave the property immediately to look for accommodation elsewhere.
4. While we were unpacking our bikes in stunned silence we were told that the kitchen was closed and if we wanted to eat something we only had 10 minutes to freshen up to get down to the dining room. We had no choice of a menu - they only offered pasta and chicken. , Which seems to be the norm when you arrive late- see review from 2017.
5. We were not told at the time how much dinner would be.
6. While eating our dinner we were asked what we wanted for breakfast. This time we were offered a menu.
7. The room was very small and felt unclean. My bed was right next to the wall where the toilet was.
8. Breakfast time, while walking back and forth in the dining room, they reminded us of the time as they wanted us to leave by 10am. That was the only time when I felt glad to leave that place.
9. They offered us some breakfast bars for our cycle which were out of date
Quick visit after a long walk along the beach. Staff could not have been more helpful. The coffee and tray bake were lovely. Why there is barbed wire around the outside seating area that restricts coastal views to die for beats logic
I don’t normally leave reviews however the service in here is so poor I feel it’s needed. This has to be the slowest barista/service I have experienced. I’ve been in here a few times over the year to grab a “quick” coffee before work but the workers are painfully slow. Cream runs out- no replacement cream so everything stops while that one barista gets another one. No skimmed milk in fridge so everything stops while they go and get more from the back. No tables free apart from dirty ones with used plates and cups, que all the way back to the door. One barista making drinks with 6 tickets on the counter and you’re waiting 15 minutes to get a coffee to grab and go. Every visit I have had this has been the experience I have had more or less. More training and improved service flow is needed. Every other costa I’ve been in, in the surrounding areas is brilliant. This one always is a awful experience.
I would really appreciate it if the restaurant can decide on the size of the chips. It went from small bowl to large bowl and now it is small bowl again.
I ordered seasoned chips and it came without seasoning. When I asked the staff they said they did put seasoning on but there clearly wasn't. Their attitude was less than pleasant.
Tables full of dirty dishes.
