Costa in Moray

Unfortunately the reviews on here are pretty much spot on. We visited twice on and back from Loch Ness. First visit the staff were to busy speaking to a Couple with a baby, our order was missed and the 2 people behind us in the Q got there drinks before someone said, were was our order. The cappuccino’s were really matte as very milky. On way back service was very slow, one of the worst flat white I have had at Costa. Manager needs to step back and see things from customers eyes, they will get a shock on poor service and quality of what Costa calls hand crafted coffee.

Oh dear, customer service attitude the worst I’ve ever experienced. What I requested, 1 sit down coffee in a cup and 2 coffees in take away cups became quite the task. Somehow it was my fault things got mixed up, and whilst I quite easily and calmly tried to explain the order (again) things behind the counter escalated to the point where the girl serving actually asked me if I wanted the coffees or not? We are over from Australia and just not used to bad attitude within the service industry. You wouldn’t last long at all with that attitude. On a positive note once I was dealt with and the banging of cups and jugs all over with, the attitude quite obviously changed so the following customers had a different service …. But I do wonder if this was for my benefit? Do better please.

Very slow service, then had to clear table of used dishes. Counted 7 tables with trays of used dishes on. At these prices surely they can afford to employ more staff. Come on Costa, try harder.

Poor quality over all. Food slightly stale. Over two separate visits in a week we found, no serviceable ladies toilet, no serviceable sink in disabled, dirty tables, no hot food, semi warm coffee. On watching the "Barrista" making coffee he spills about 25% of the coffee granules as its a mad dash to get order brewing. We weren't annoyed enough to say to them but a poor review is definitely all it's worth. I'm sure dealing with people is a hard job, but it's what you choose to do so smile.....

My family and me went to get coffee in the spring field branch elgin, we stood at the till for ten minutes, the manger was behind the counter doing nothing, we walked out so did six other customers who was waiting behind us

I have been in this particular Costa 2 or 3 times now, and each visit has been a good few months apart and each time I have been I have found it to be understaffed, you queue for far too long and it is dirty. The floors are always littered with food and the ladies toilet is awful, the stench of urine is terrible.

My son and I visited this Costa last Tuesday 9th January late afternoon and was served by Max. Max was a lovely young lad, who was very friendly, helpful and polite.

The lights are horrible in here but other than that it’s great :3

I'm lost for words, food hygiene was awful having meat liners on the vegetarian chopping board, brand standards wasn't met for drinks, employees with unwashed hands touching the rim of the cups and allergens not met to the requirements on coffee what is very scary to think about. The bar was very unhygienic for a food establishment! Coming from an employee from costa in a diffrent district more training needs required ASAP !

The coffee was awful this morning..

The young staff are not able to handle the busy periods and are often very slow and not really concerned about speeding up for a quick service. I have walked out many times because of standing in a non moving queue. And I can see the staff just bumbling around. There never seems to be a team leader or manager in either. The cafe it self is clean and comfortable nice meeting place if your not on a time constraint.

Was looking forward to trying the new maple latte, I don't usually do fancy coffees but the photos of this one looked delicious. Expectations versus reality 😂 looked nothing like the photos, was barely any cream on top, no sprinkles at all and all the flavour was sat at the bottom. Was too scared to stir it too as the cutlery was dirty. The place wasn't busy at the time, we were quite early. Bit disappointed.

My husband and I were looking forward to trying the new maple latte as advertised by Costa, it's a rare treat for us. We went at a quiet time of day too, so it wasn't too busy. Didn't really get what we paid for. Trays were dirty too.

It was lovely - cool temperature (appreciated in the heatwave), great coffee and cake, served by a smiley young woman - and the best part? NO music! I could sit in peace and enjoy my coffee :)

Clean good service but the prices are getting high. 2 medim lattes and 2 baken rolls £14. Odds I can get a main meal for that in a restaurant.

Too little boba balls and handed me the cup with the lid half off causing it to spill all over my car but to mention the wait time and they didn’t give me the correct straw for the drink

Catriona was so rude, unwelcoming and quite frankly unacceptable, literally ignored us standing there for ages, she didn't even smile and say be with you in a minute.. then spoke to us like we were a problem! What a terrible service ... AGAIN!!

Coffee tasted strong and burnt! Food very mediocre, some chairs are badly food stained. Hard working friendly staff. Free parking.

I went into costa to have a coffee but needed the toilet first , before I ordered . The toilet was locked , no code, just locked. I asked the assistant if I can use the toilet and was asked if I had ordered a coffee. I said not yet I need the loo but I will. I was told, you can’t use the toilet until you have ordered and paid for a coffee! Terrible !!!! My thoughts are with everyone who has continence struggles and can’t hold while they cue up and pay before it is unlocked My thoughts are with everyone who may have a Stoma bag which needs to be changed urgently My thoughts are with any female who struggles with their period and my flood while the cue to pay! How is this respectful and dignified . It’s a human right to use the toilet the service provides when you need to without having beg and explain embarrassing reasons why you need to jump the cue to order and pay ! I get people use coffee shop toilets and they are not customers but…. So? They just may order a coffee or buy a delicious cake while they are there! Costa have now lost a customer, I will never go in that shop again and, I left to buy a coffee somewhere else at a service with compassion and understanding and let me use their toilet before I ordered a coffee ! Review your policy costa ….. you are chasing the money first , customer service second! Poor poor attitude!

Place was empty but had to sit and wait on my 2 coffees. Then the girl bellowed on me to come get them. Lots of staff on, would have thought they would bring them over after waiting so long.

Shambles of a place every time I’m in. Staff friendly but seemed under staffed and under stocked. Very poor

Quality coffee and friendly staff

The staff where very nice and welcoming and there Victoria Sponge Muffins are fantastic. I also ordered a small hot chocolate and was happy with the amount. It was a little to rich for me but that’s fine. Overall I enjoyed my visit to this Costa. Would come again!

Fuimos una hora antes del cierre y nos dijeron que solo ofrecía servicio para llevar, una hora antes del cierre! Nunca me había pasado. A parte solamente quedaban 2 pastelitos para comer, se les veía con muy pocas ganas de trabajar a los dependientes. Una gran decepción, no volveré.

Temperature outside was below zero. Snow and ice everywhere (see pic). Was ready to buy food and coffee ar counter and was told we couldn't sit in and eat because of staff shortage. This was despite people sitting and dining in when we arrived and zero cars using in the drive in option for the staff to serve. To deny customers the chance to sit somewhere warm in these circumstances is extremely disappointing and sad to experience.

The Retail Park on Edgar Road is the best of all the costs in Elgin. The staff are always friendly and helpful with nothing being too much of a hassle for them. Have been there many times and witnessed so many rude people who expect far more than is practically possible. The staff work hard, and very well within the limits, they are given by Costa's head office. They apologise if you have been waiting and will try to accommodate all even when they get really weird requests. When all is said and done, they are a fast food establishment, and if you want a gourmet meal don't go to costa, but if you want good food at affordable prices with great coffee served by a brilliant group of people you know where to go. A good example of how brilliant they are, was when my wife was ill and needed some ice water, we asked one of the staff who was clearing the table if it was possible, his reaction was nay bother. He went off and came back a few minutes later with the glass of water and just the right amount of ice. He even came back to check on us later. Not had such service in many other costs! Thank you

It's OK but it's always takeaway only

Always closes early, (supposedly short of staff)!!!! 4 o'clock can't sit inside, have yo take your expensive hot chocolate/ coffee out into rhe cold, shoddy, very shoddy !!!! Friends toast was soggy would of stuck to the wall or window.

Arrived at Elgin Retail Costa, closing hours states 1730 (arrived at 1620) only to be told takeaway only as they are closing. Even the boy on counter had to ask the lady in coffee machine if he shouldn’t take the order as she was cleaning everything down. Very grudged service and not even a thank you. Awful visit and we will not be back!

Rude, condescending staff. Dirty. I only went in for a coffee and a cake. I left a bit traumatised.

Bought a couple of the Costa cups as had a long journey. Second stop was Elgin Costa and was told that they weren’t allowed to fill dirty cups. Fair enough if that’s their rules but guys gave impression they just didn’t want to rinse the cup and filled them dirty. Poor attitude, indifferent to customer service, faces like slapped bottoms. And @Costa what’s the point of refillable cups if you won’t fill them in a drive through?

Popped in with my son today like I do every Friday at the same time 45 min before closing (1hr 45 min before advertised closing). Just wanted a quick hot chocolate while his daughter was at dancing. Was told we couldn't sit down as they were closing (in 45 min...) and it was the same every week. Politely told the lady we come most weeks and we get to sit it. Rude shrug of the shoulders, insisted this is always the case and turfed us outside. Not before she slammed an 11 year olds hot chocolate on the counter without a thank you or goodbye.

Staff training required! Take away only, my wife and I attended 10 minutes before the 3pm closing time and ordered two latte take away coffees and my wife asked if there was any lemon muffin. Guy behind the counter said what was on display was all he had and added that ‘I’m not opening any more’. My wife and I told him to forget it and walked out. The issue certainly wasn’t what was or wasn’t available it was the manner in which she was spoken to. We won’t be going back to Costa.

Brilliant service and great coffee

I have visited this store many times . Please pass on my compliments to Iona she is always very pleasant. Smilng and speaks to my grandchildren when I have them in.

Very nice hot chocolate and catch it with friends

A very central and convenient cafe in the centre of elgin..but that is all. Review of my comments of three years ago, the place has went down hill, tables full of used cups, cleaning is only done when asked. The staff are rude and unapologetic when asked if they could serve up a filter coffee! The usual response is "oh we haven any on at the minute" OK but when it's your 3rd time of visiting it gets a wee bit repetitive, no alternative offered. So why is it on the menu if its not on offer!!!! Stopped going in there now, rather walk upto the high Street..... Avoid.

Obviously someone got out of bed on the wrong side this morning! Server not only treated me like an inconvenience but also treated me like a 5 year old when i asked if i could have my app scanned. Apparently you ask for this before paying even though you hand your phone over with your card! Stick to the drive in where staff are faultless.

The service and food was appalling. I will not be returning. I have previously sat in the elgin high street branch which was fantastic however this was not an enjoyable experience. My son and me had time to have lunch and a sweet treat today which was unusual we don't often get these moments and I wanted to treat him. We ordered a cappuccino, baby chino, cheese and ham toastie to share and 2 cakes. See below my complaints 1. The coffee took about 10 mins to make although there was no one else waiting 2. Our cakes were not provided with our order, I had to go back up and ask for them. 3. We were asked if my son wanted Marshmallows with his hot chocolate baby chino but they were not provided 4. I wasn't asked if I wanted sugar so I had to go up again to ask for sugar 5. The toastie was hard and inedible on one side and soft and not toasted on the other. 6. The cake selection was very poor and most were out of stock. Overall the visit was a complete disappointment and I will definitely not return here.

Always got time for a coffee here

I don’t usually go to costa so i am a little bit unfamiliar with the menu. I went in with my son for some lunch as we were up that way and didn’t have time to go somewhere else. There was only one other couple in the building at the time so not overly busy. Now i have worked in another coffee shop in town that is a big competitor to costa so I understand what customers service is. So when coming in and standing waiting to be served i would expect one of 3 members of staff to say hello or can i help? But nope i stood there for a good 10 mins before i was even asked what we wanted. I also asked about the iced tea, i got a satisfactory answer but when i asked for simple syrup in it he didnt even know what that was? Then as my order was being made there was no interaction or a thank you for coming in. I felt as a first time customer i was not made to feel welcome or appreciated that we came in to order. I was going to sit in but felt uncomfortable and left to eat it in my car. The staff were more interested in speaking to each other than talking to customers.

Nice friendly service food is very good

The staff in this store always go above and beyond to do everything they can to make you feel welcome and that you are not just a customer. They are polite and helpful and will do all they can to make your visit a pleasant one. Families are treated with respect and the little spills that happen with little ones is NEVER a drama, with someone on hand to clear away any mess. They welcome you with a smile and wish you a nice day on the way out what more could you want in a coffee shop? OH and the coffee is much better than some other branches we had visited,

This is my local Costa and I always find the staff friendly and chatty. Some times I wait a wee bit longer to get served because people in front of me can not make their minds up as to what they want even although they have been in the queue for several minutes. If the staff are taking longer to clean the tables maybe it's because of the mess that they are left in by the previous customers and I have seen some dirty tables. If customers put their dirty dishes back on to the tray it would help the staff to clean the table and get people served a seated quickly.

I ordered using the app today and collected from the Elgin store. I had paid to eat in. However I collected my order and was met with a young guy. I told him I had paid to eat in whilst he left my food on the side he advised you can't just turn up and take a seat do you have a table. What a thing to say when you have ordered through the app. I advised him that's fine I won't be returning. His attitude was disgusting. I'd obviously upset his day!!

This was my first visit to the Costa Coffee located at the Springfield Retail Park.Like other similar establishments, there was a good range of snack options, prices were reasonable and our party of three enjoyed our lunch.My main grouse was the extreme length of time it took to get our food. There was a queue stretching out of the door and only two hardworking staff members trying to cope with taking and preparing the orders.Also due to the lack of staff, clearing of recently occupied tables was slow.I was pleased to note that the male member of staff at the counter ensures that covid regulations regarding social distancing were observed by requesting customers in the queue to keep their distance from other people in the queue

Poor selection of sandwiches etc. Service and coffee was good.

Went in for lunch at 13.30, had no sandwiches at all, assistants manner was not good either, will think again before I go back there.

The staff were so welcoming and after we told them we were vegan I saw them check the ingredients on all the products they used and showed us while they made our drinks. So glad we chose to stop off at Costa today. We had the after eight hot chocolate with oat milk and no cream, and I tried the vegan chocolate and hazelnut cookie and it was INCREDIBLE. Thanks so much to the two women who served us here, we will come back soon!

My sisters and I went into this particular Costa and saw that you could order from the table (there was no one in the queue at this point) and we sat down to decide what we wanted and order on the app. We also track and traced as soon as we sat down, as required. About ten minutes after we had ordered, one of the male workers came over and abruptly told us that if we weren’t going to order, we would have to leave. This was done loud enough for the tables around us to look at us and listen in. When I informed him we had ordered on the app, he walked away without no apology.He then sent one of the female workers over who told us we were being unfair to the people who were now in the queue and that we would have to get in the queue to get our already paid for order and give up our table.I got into the queue for some clarification and to check that we hadn’t just misread the sign that told us to sit down and order from our table (we hadn’t misread the sign). When we got to the front of the queue, the woman told us she didn’t have half our order anyway (despite us already paying). She was extremely abrupt and rude and, again, had people in the queue staring at us like we were criminals. We decided to leave it as they hadn’t started the order and go elsewhere (had to contact customer services to get a refund for the order).

Coffee was fine the guys behind the counter, rude arrogant and not very clued up on covid guidelines. I understand we are all under stress during these times but these two are a couple of clowns.

I am most upset about the cup of tea I was given; milk poured in at the same time as the tea bag. Unsatisfactory

The most stressful visit to a coffee shop, staff were very COVID aware but that was it. No compassion or humanity they were very rude. Couldn’t order until scanned in and made everyone wait as she needed proof. Another customer wanted a pot of tea scan wouldn’t work and she was getting more and more distressed. A lady needed to sit down and test her blood sugar she was shooed off the table as her husband hadn’t scanned yet and the assistant muttered loudly and rudely towards her. I understand that measures are in place for a very good reason but we were all treated with contempt and lack of humanity, lack of trust or compassion and made to feel unclean. I can see the staff are stressed out of their boxes and that stress is passed on to the customer not a pleasant experience by any means.

I am a massive fan of costa and I come regularly and always have a good experience, however today’s experience had me physically shaking with anger. In the Springfield Costa in Elgin - the Assistant Manager ‘Roberto Ferreira’ was disgustingly rude! He was shouting across the coffee room telling us we couldn’t sit down until tables had been cleaned and when we asked who was cleaning them he got really rude and sarcastic with his responses! He then was acting in a rushed fashion even though there was no queue Of people - he made us feel like we weren’t important and we almost walked out due to this. He then started banging things around and continued to to snap sharp responses at my dad! UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR FROM AN ASSISTANT MANAGER!

Pretty grim, lots of fringe flicking from the disinterested guy taking the order. Queue didn’t seem to move so wasn’t sure why the scruffy member of staff in the fleece was wandering round on his noble in one hand and a latte in the other instead of helping out.

Went here to get a coffee. Two members of staff on duty, on other customer being served ahead of me. After one of the staff finished serving the customer he started cleaning behind the counter whilst the other one cleaned the dining area. I appreciate that cleaning is necessary just now but both staff members totally blanked me. Neither greated me, explained there would be a delay or even looked at me. After about ten minutes the one behind the counter went to help his colleague and I walked out complaining. At that point one of the staff members said 'man, we have to do this'. That was the only interaction from the staff the whole time I was there. Absolutely no customer service at all.

Prompt & speedy service. Staff very friendly, opted for the Colombian roast which was lovely. Love the Costa brand and the Drive Thru concept is perfect if your in a rush.

Nice space, welcome break if shopping.

Staff are very welcoming and friendly. Coffee is always made to perfection and is always hot.

Visited this Costa several times and it's getting worse. Service is awful no smile and rude. My drink wasn't warm I asked for it to be extra hot. Just away to walk from till when I had a sip of drink as it didn't feel warm which it wasn't. Asked nicely and said it's not even warm asked could I get it hot plz. No one else in the cue just me well if looks could kill. I said thankyou didn't even speak slam drink. Won't be coming back..... Prefer the one in town. Or Forres Tesco where the staff are nice.....

Miserable staff. Felt more like an inconvenience

Nice and clean. Quality coffee and good atmosphere. A touch pricey but as a treat it's ok. Staff friendly and have good banter.

Good stop for a drink and sweet treat. I enjoy tea with the tea- cake. Service was quick, efficient and we were fortunate to find a table as it was really busy.

If you have an allergy to milk don't get the coffee coz you will be ill I was1 coz they don't clean the machine

It's Costa. You've seen one you've seen 'em all. If you just need mediocre coffee and a place to sit then it's the place go.

That’s the time I had to wait from the time I walked in until my order was taken. Time of arrival 1358 on Sunday 18 August. There were 3 people in line ahead of me. Many of the tables had not been cleared let alone cleaned. The person ahead of me asked where to get sugar and was accurately told under the pile of trays of cups!There were 3 members of staff on but perhaps staffing levels need to be reviewed. I think I was one of the first to visit here when it opened and it was very good. It has gone downhill very quickly.

What is there not to like about any Costa

Have visited this Costa several times and it's getting worse and worse. Always grubby and the service is awful. No chat, no atmosphere, no smiling. It's really dire. Staff seem uninterested. Coffee is bland. Much prefer the one on the high street or drive thru!

Great place for a coffee or lunch or a snack

I sometimes pop by for coffee and cake. Two weeks ago I popped In as I needed something sweet for my sugar levels. As I was unwell and had the shakes, I asked if I could get help carrying my coffee and double chocolate muffin .... it was brought to the table and I said thank you so much. No smile.... not even pleasantries asking if I was ok. Extremely disappointed.

I work within the retail park & often visit Costa & 9 times out of 10 the experience is horrendous!It’s a busy establishments & the vast majority of times there is just one barista making all the drinks while one takes the orders.Yesterday the woman in question taking the orders just walked away from the till & got herself a smoothie from the fridge then preceeded to chat away to the one girl making drinks!I stood & waited for over 20 mins & people who had put their orders in after me were served before me then when I finally got mine it was barely luke warm I couldn’t be bothered going back in to complain!Other times I have been in again it’s always one person making the drinks & often a boy & girl just standing about looking lifeless.Tables are often dirty & full of cups & plates from past customers so new customers are having to clear them before sitting down.I would love to know what the manager of this establishment does as it’s pretty clear that they don’t care about what their staff are doing or lack of what their staff are doing.I am costa lover & I have given this branch a few goes now & more often than not the service is shocking I would rather walk the 10-15mins into town now as it would be quicker than getting served here!

Regular customer to Costa and like their shops/ coffee/menu. Today the place is dirty - tables uncleared and dirty. Whole place looked grubby. Unopened milk cartons on the floor next to the brush and pan for sweeping up. Toilets dirty and no toilet roll. Latte weak and tasted ‘soapy’ - really not acceptable standard!!

Not at all up to scratch. Kids have often complained about tummy ache after going in there so I'm not sure how the staffs hand hygiene is but it's often messy and usually has trays on the empty tables. Have had to clean the tables down myself a few times to get a seat. Also allows smoking at the front of the shop and actively encourages it providing ash trays. I don't like that people blow smoke into the kids faces on the way in for a coffee so I avoid going in anymore.

Nice quality, friendly staff, pricey

I see I'm not the only reviewer to have noticed how dirty this place has become. I sat in today becauseI needed to sit somewhere for rest and it's the only place available on the retail park. I was next to the entrance to the bar where dirty pieces of screwed up kitchen paper where lying the floor and on top of a (not full) bin. The baristas walked passed this several times without giving the mess even a glance - too normal I suppose.The floor looked very grubby which probably meant the counters were too.. There was also someone's outdoor garment stuffed into a gap between the coffee dispensers on the counter. I can't understand how the place keeps going. It doesn't deserve to.

I went into the cafe for a coffee with my friend after finishing work to unwind and enjoy a coffee however the coffee was really good but oh my good the environment leaves a a lot to desired due to staff cleaning hoovering and banging the chairs and table about and this only 17 00 and your times on your web sight does not tally with the times within the cafe I have given this cafe it's last change it should be about the customers and not about getting cleaned up we were told that's why the cafe shuts at 18 00 yo enable the staff to get home earlier not happy with the service but the coffee was so good

By far the worst Costa I have ever been in. Peak time and only three staff only one of which could be described as interested in customers. Presentation of cakes and cleanliness of counter not even on the same planet of the usual standard and detail found in other Costa shops. Girl making the coffee couldn't have been less professional or interested in her work. The amount of spillage and waste would make an area manager of this chain go apoplectic with rage. Sad thing is most of the customers seem to accept this standard. I'm informed that there is another costa in the main street... I'd advise the use of that one.

Don't mess with my coconut vanilla latte. If I want sprinkles I will ask! At least it was replaced.
