Badenoch's in Moray

Edit: went back to Badenoch’s after they changed ownership. The service was still, not very good, but the food came out quickly. However, I ordered the chicken tenders, which to my knowledge were meant to be plain southern fried tenders, however, they had some sort of sauce all over them, making the sauces served on the side a bit useless. I don’t know if they just haven’t updated their menu, but it definitely caught me off guard. Also the table we sat out was dirty, so I’m not sure how clean they keep the place these days. I’m upping to 3 stars because the food was better, albeit a little strange. Went here on a trip to Elgin before moving and was not impressed. The staff were really nice but the food took over an hour to come because they only had one chef, understandable, but they should warn customers. When the food finally came, our starter came out with the rest of the food which was irritating but whatever, we were very hungry by this point, but unfortunately the burger buns were stale and fell apart immediately after being picked up so we had to both eat our burgers with a knife and fork and no bun. Definitely won’t be back for food but again, the bar staff were very kind and that’s why I gave at least 2 stars.

This was my first visit to this restaurant/bar for a number of years. On my last visit, it was named the Cooperage. At that time I was not impressed. A gloomy atmosphere and service was slow and not particularly helpful. It was not so, this visit. The dining area was much more welcoming, and service was quick and friendly from the two members of staff that I encountered. There was a decent range of dining options on the Christmas Menu, and prices were reasonable. Most importantly, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch

A busy pub, not really a quiet place to eat and had no steaks...

The food was good. However some of the staff were more interested in carrying on with each other and seem to be no leadership.

Honestly the worst experience had from start to finish. Was like we had walked into a prank cafe, wrong juice, wrong food, no till roll, staff rolling eyes when we told them orders were wrong and the food was substandard. Left a funny taste in your mouth. Anyways we won’t be back

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I went out with my friend for birthday drinks/food at Badenochs, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! As someone who is quite picky and usually stick to my safe foods, I was a bit nervous about trying something new. However, the small plates we ordered were absolutely delicious. The service was exceptional. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and noticed right away when I wasn’t enjoying my drink. He kindly offered to remake it, and my friend happily took my original drink instead. It’s rare to find such thoughtful service, especially for someone like me who can be particular about food and drinks. I highly recommend Badenochs for its amazing food and outstanding service. I can’t wait to return!

The service was impeccable. There was a particular waiter who was attentive, commonly checked in to see if we were enjoying our food or needed anything. They were always smiling and kind when speaking with us. I am unsure what the waiter’s name was, but it was a man with dark hair and arm tattoos. He should especially receive praise. The food was fabulous and the cocktails were amazing. The staff were accommodating at doing cocktails that weren’t on the menu too, so that was great. Will definitely come back to Elgin purely just to come here again!!!!

Food was good but several dishes not available even weekend specials (went on a Friday). Same with drinks, no ingredients for several cocktails and wine out of stock. Service was really poor for both food and drinks. Booked a table but ended up being double booked.

My chum and I went in for lunch today,we both had the ribeye at a cost of 46 pounds for both. Very unhappy the only hot thing on the plates were the fries, this was after waiting 40 minutes! Disgusting never eating there again.

Nachos are amazing. Our server Gus was great! Would recommend STP for dessert too 🥮

Had drinks - they weren't great, I am a tonic snob - just a bit meh - we were in just before 5 p m & I asked if they served food, was told yes but not offered a menu - it was very clean and the decor seemed nice, plenty of seating.

Nice little restaurant in Elgin. Good menu offering classics, pasta, etc with some vegetarian options. Service was friendly and fast. Kind of broken up layout. A bit pub a bit restaurant.

Incredibly slow. Unbelievably unprofessional. Kitchen can't handle more than a few orders at once..no snacks for the table and servers seem lost half the time. They don't work for tips so there is no motivation to care for the patrons. Seems more like a spot to get pissed than a restaurant. Shame. Has potential but it's squandered when you have to wait an hour after ordering for food. I train wait staff for a living and I was disappointed to say the least. Haven't tried the food yet so couldn't comment on the quality. Make sure to get a reservation anywhere else.

Nice place to stop for an aperitif or snack on something. I really enjoyed the chicken wrap!

Booked a table here for a meal and was delighted that I did. Lovely and clean and a nice atmosphere. I had the prawn and chorizo tagliatelle and chicken satay loaded fries… both of which were delicious. Helpful friendly staff too. Will definitely return next time I’m in the area 10/10

Stumbled upon this place by luck on a lunchtime. Had sticky chilli fries and chicken skewers. Both were fantastic. Will deffo go back again. Really nice inside the place . Well decorated. Also dog friendly.

Food was mediocre and under seasoned. The salt shaker at our table was near empty, so it couldn't have been just us. The atmosphere was strange and felt like a restaurant in a long hallway. Overall, the quality of this place did not justify the price we paid, and we left before ordering a second drink.

I had the chicken skewers dinner. It was bland and overpriced. Most of the whiskey list was not actually available/in-stock. Overall just not a good experience.

Came past today with a friend for some lunch on a recommendation. All the staff were great considering they were all busy. Food was at a really good standard and the pricing was really fair considering the current economy😂 Definitely be back!

Do not go here expecting this menu or you will be very disappointed. When we arrived we were informed they didn't have chips but thinking we were ordering burritos this wasn't a big deal but it wiped out a big chunk of the menu. But we ordered 3 small plates and a chicken satay Pulled pork was very good, the rest disappointing. Nachos hardly any toppings and I think the guac came from a supermarket squeezy bottle and completely tasteless Chicken satay, no flavour and dry. I had 2 cocktails which were delicious, however, they didn't either have the ingredients or knowledge to make my original choices. I would suggest updating this page to avoid misleading other potential patrons

I had a battered fish with salt and peppered fries. Amazing, the best fries, the mushy peas has a hint of fresh mint and the fresh Peterhead haddock was soooo fresh, it fell apart when I tried to put it on the fork! My partner ordered wild mushroom tagliatelle. Same, out of this world. The atmosphere is so relaxing, music, natural surroundings and friendly and helpful staff makes it definitely somewhere to go. I WILL be returning the next time we are in the area.

We went to Badendoch for dinner. It was a Tuesday night and it was relatively quiet. Service was OK, staff were friendly but not very attentive. It felt like we were forgotten after the food was served. To the point that I had to go to the bar to pay for the meal. The atmosphere was mostly ok but there was a large party celebrating a birthday and it seemed that there was a need to be going up and down between the first floor and the ground floor making a lots of noise. This became quite annoying as you could hardly hold a conversation it was so loud. We all ordered burgers for mains and the food was actually very good. The dessert was also good. Overall not bad food but the atmosphere and level of attention by staff would probably point me to try something else on the high street.

Nice choice of whisky but their whisky list differs from the reality. You have to choose your drink at the bar.

First visit for myself for lunch with a group. Some items were unavailable which I know some were a little disappointed about. But, service was very good, our server was thorough, helpful and efficient. I chose the chicken satay small plate and the nachos small plate. Both were lovely, I'd have preferred a bit more sour cream and guacamole, but that's just my preference. I'd recommend it for groups. It appears to be dog-friendly too. We had one member in our group who is celiac so a gluten-free menu was provided, however, fries weren't an option for them as all are cooked in the same frier. I'd imagine this place to be quite busy at weekends. Booking table is recommended.

Cocktail making class was great. Our host Darla was amazing. It was great value for money, the cocktails were great and the food was amazing. Would defjnetely recommend.

Best food in Elgin! Fries where unreal

We have just revisited Badenochs having furst visited here about 6 months ago and it’s still just as good if not better. Badenochs re-opened last year under new management. The decor in places is a little tired but at the end of the day this is a new venture from a young couple who are more than holding their own in a very competitive market of pubs in the town most of which have large financial backing from well known franchises. As far as the food goes we found an extensive menu of burgers, small plates, steaks cooked to perfection and chicken satay to die for. A great choice of local beers, wines and of course a well stocked whisky bar. We found all the servers although young were polite and friendly and the management professional and hard working. In short you’ll not find better food and value for money in Elgin. It’s also a very accommodating place suitable for all ages including kids and dogs are allowed which for us is a bonus. There is even a beer garden!! The biggest in the town. A great pub run by a young ambitious and enthusiastic team.

Black walls, black plates, black napkins, black uniforms, none of which do anything to improve an already lack of atmosphere. In an establishment where a choice of seating was available, why were shown to a booth where the bench seat was already ripped in half, not exactly a good start. The menu selection was good, if you liked burgers, or burgers of any kind, a bit of persuasion eventually got a vegetarian menu produced, there was also a Sunday roast available, no choice of meats,beef only, this was acceptable apart from the vegetables, which appeared to have come from a bag of mixed veg and had been cooked by some method beyond recognition. No offer of deserts was made, we had to as for a desert menu, no cheesecake was available. No decaf coffee was available, in fact there was no knowledge of any decaf drinks being available. Prices are by no means cheap. I would have thought that with a name such as Badenochs, some local, Scottish food would have been on the menu. Overall there was a general lack of interest, and hospitality training, which would not encourage us to return l

Badenoch’s delivers a friendly welcome and food has always been good. And the menu changes. Not overly priced but well worth the asking price. A variety of drinks is available; we once managed brandy but was unsuccessful most recently. Whisky and cocktails their speciality. But no brandy? Shame! Beware if you’re sat near the entrance. It’s draughty and they watch their heating costs. There’s some distance between kitchen and tables so make sure your food isn’t cold - unless ice cream of course. All starters/mains available this time. The server provided a dessert menu and then returned later to tell us 2 of the 4 options were unavailable. Communication issue? Fortunately, STP still on. That’s sticky toffee pudding - yummy! Staff suffer from amnesia. Once finished the mains, no one came to clear the table to ask if we wanted a dessert. I assailed a server who began to clear a neighbouring vacated table. We seemed forgotten! And the delay in serving the dessert seemed interminable. My party has experienced this delay before so it’s not a one off. Diners can age noticeably as they finish their main course and start their dessert! 🤭🥱⏱️

The proprietor is the problem. His behaviour was insulting. Would never return. Unfortunate as some staff were good.Décor was average and lacked warmth.

Decided to eat here as we had a great experience both with food & service on 3rd January Bitterly disappointed this time. Myself & 2 other family members were seated & given a menu by the one female staff member, there was also another male floating around We received our drinks & food which was really good but from then on we were completely ignored. The lady who served us sat at a table on a computer right in front of us but never enquired if we required anything else We were looking at the cocktail menu but sat so long in the bitterly cold venue that we decided to leave We then stood waiting to pay our bill & in the end had to ask her to attend to us We told her we were disapointed with having to wait & being ignored after our great experience last time but she said she was on her own.... maybe, but it wasn't busy & she completely ignored us.... big mistake as we took our business elsewhere & will not advise others to eat here

Absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish! Visited with a group of gals on Valentine’s Saturday and shared an AMAZING steak platter cooked to perfection!! Staff were hitting our table consistently for drinks and service and in spite of being very busy, we were really well looked after. Still dreaming about that steak today and can’t wait to visit again!

What they can't compete with in mass merchandising, they more than make up for in: staff; atmosphere and personal feel about the place. More than dog friendly, cheers for the water and biscuits. You don't get that at the other end of High Street.✌️

Decided to try here for dinner.Based on word of mouth and positive reviews we walked in on Sunday night. The place wasn’t busy so we were seated by the window by the waitress.Ordered our food and drink,everything so far fine,but my partner had to go up to the bar to ask for more drinks,a complete bug bare of mine when in a restaurant as you should never have to do that,it’s the staff’s job to check if we need more drinks ! The food was really tasty if a bit slow,but as it was good we let that go. BUT !! We won’t return till spring/ summer as we were frozen,we were dressed for winter,but the draught coming in was awful and there’s nothing worse when going out for dinner and being cold. See you in the summer ☀️

First time we have been there and we were really impressed. Lovely atmosphere and really helpful and friendly staff who are a credit to the place. I don't often have a burger but today I had the one with Brie. Really tasty. A homemade burger with a generous amount of Brie. I definitely recommend it. Our son had the Baddies burger and my wife had the haloumi burger. Again both were lovely. We will definitely go back.

2023-12-04 Edit: Nicer than before it seems, taken on by new owners. Being it is December, they are ramped up for seasonal flavors. Had a Brie burger with cranberry relish, damn good! It looks like their drink menu is on point. They have the regular drinks and some fun named ones that sounded tasty. Old review: Very American-style burger with their own twist - the crispy haggis was a treat!

We came here loads when it owned by someone else and it was great. We were slightly hesitant to try it out with the new guys, but we were glad we did. The food on offer is different than before but is still fantastic. The staff were super helpful with us and even offered to get me a padded seat due to my current disability, I declined, but it was nice of him to offer. Make sure to book in advance at the weekends as empty tables are few and far between (which goes to show how good this place is). Fantastic and thoroughly recommended. 5 stars ★★★★★

I dropped in for a Saturday morning coffee. The place is nice enough, the coffee, a flat white, was fine, service was prompt. However, I felt it was a wee bit overpriced. Next time I'll order something a bit more adventurous and see how it works out price wise. The best thing is that it's dog friendly, a huge plus in my book.

Went to try the new sunday roast beef dinner and it absolutely lived up to expectations.Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned plus the portion sizes were spot on.Went as a party of 4(2 kids and 2 adults) and it was clean plates all around.Service was fast too.Top marks!

My wife and I popped into Badenoch's for lunch. Neither of us had been there before, so we were giving the unknown a try! Immediate impressions of the bar/restaurant were positive, through the door into a spacious area, with a friendly welcome from one of the staff members. We were seated and given the menu to choose from. Not a massive menu, but nicely varied and everything sounded lovely. We opted for 3 of the 'small plates' as they were described on the menu (Pork belly bites, halloumi fries, and bao buns with teriyaki beef to be specific) as they were described on the menu, and didn't have to wait long before they were on the table! First impressions of the food were promising! All 3 dishes were presented beautifully, and a bit bigger than what I would say is your usual starter-sized portion. The halloumi fries were crispy, tasty, and the guacamole was particularly outstanding. The bao buns were a super size, the beef was very nicely done and the dressing on the plate added a very nice tang to the dish. The pork belly bites blew us both away. Succulent, with a beautiful sauce, strong but well balanced flavour, and plenty dressing to soak up the last of the sauce. Out of three excellent dishes, this was our favourite. Safe to say that we were both very satisfied with the service, and passed on compliments to the chef via our friendly waitress. For a quick but satisfying and excellent quality lunch, I can hardly reccommend this place enough! Well done Badenoch's!

Good food and great service. The menu isn't massive but has enough selection to satisfy. The food was of a good quality and surprised me, all I expected was a pub grub meal and honestly the food is better than some local dedicated restaurants.

What a gorgeous spot. Even on a quiet Monday, the place had people coming and going all evening. Popped in here, not expecting much but I must say the salt and chilli chips are next level. The Flirtini is delightful and the servers are attentive but friendly, no coldness or standoffishness. The setting is gorgeous too. Next time I'm here I'll be back. One thing to note is possibly putting some vegan mains as one halloumi burger for a lactose intolerant person meant starters and sides instead of a main. Otherwise beautiful place

This place is great! I highly recommend anyone to go there! Atmosphere is great and the staff are really friendly and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. They have a wide variety of lovely drinks to suit everyone. The food was delicious and well presented as always. I look forward to returning here again.

Terrible service and food quality! The dishes were below par and definitely not worth the price. The waitstaff seemed disorganized and struggled to match orders with tables. After placing an order, you had to practically chase down servers to get any updates. Unfortunately, there's no menu specifically for kids. Many patrons grew frustrated with the long wait times and ended up leaving early. This spot might work for a quick drink at the bar, but aside from that, I'd recommend avoiding it.

Been there twice in a month and nobody wants to serve, so I walked out twice

The servers are very slow! Never checked on us and missed taking one’s drink order. Never did get a chance for a second drink. The food is good though. The bathroom had not been serviced in a while as well. Great location and loved they let your dog visit too.

Visited in the afternoon for a few drinks and a bit of food. The service was a little slow as the manager was on his own but his service was really good. Food was great only reason its 4 instead of 5 was one meal wasn’t correct first this but very quickly rectified

Can’t fault the food, service or the staff. Best sit down meal I’ve had in Elgin for along time. Myself and 5 others ordered all of the small plates, and other dishes, all were superb. Friendly staff. The bill was extremely reasonable. All 6 off us will be returning.

Badenoch's is in desperate need of management, communication, and service lessons. Went for an early dinner and waited an hour for food due to a miscommunication by staff. Watched another couple walk out because drinks ordered never came. Food was decent, but was almost charged extra for fries that were supposedly included. Bill adjustment was made, but again, miscommunication due to an old and new menu. Basically, not a must eat. They need help organizing.

Quick to seat and get your drink orders but beyond that us a joke waited over 30mins just to get food ordered. Wouldn’t mind if it was busy but the place was empty! Currently still waiting on the food it’s only 2 portion of chips coleslaw with a classic burger (a lot huh) and it’s 40mins after! Food arrived as I was away to submit a review

Brilliant place, but sometimes the music is a little too loud. The staff are all youngsters.( to a oldie like me)......very helpful staff, Food is pretty good, depending on your palette, Drink prices are competitive

Just visited as a family of 4. Fish and chips for one adult and 3 small plates between adult and 2 kids as both the kids wanted nachos. Steak and Peppercorn fries to share. Everything was lovely - especially the steak/peppercorn fries - best I’ve had! But what impressed me was when I went to pay, the guy asked what the kids had so he could take it off the bill as kids eat free mid-week! We had no idea and he didn’t have to tell us. Excellent food and excellent service

Went in for a drink with a couple of pals, first time in ages. It was a bit quiet, but the food was fab- will definitely pop back in another day.

Initial impression on entering was “very nice” looked promising. Initial server was very good and helpful. We ordered some small plates as a starter and our mains. We didn’t have to wait long before some food came out. However it was one of the small plates and one of the main meals. We asked for the main meals to be served all together after we had finished the small plates (starter). The homemade nachos were very good, could have had a bit more guacamole and sour cream but very tasty. Other small plate was meant to have king prawns in it but they were definitely not king prawns but tasty all the same. When the mains came out these came out in drubs and drabs with quite a delay in between each dish appearing. The first 2 plates out where the venison burgers but minus the fries. Actually had to ask for these before the burgers went cold. The blue cheese sauce that was requested with the venison burgers came in the burger but this was requested on the side. My fish and chips that originally came out with the small plate was tasty but the chips were tepid. Staff were very nice but I think some need a bit more training. If they are unable to carry more than 2 plates at a time then maybe trays should be used to ensure whole table get their food at the same time. We asked if they had a dessert menu…. Staff response was “ I don’t really know”. My husband went to pay our bill at the bar. Three staff were not really doing anything right in front of him and took a few minutes to realise he was actually needing served. Tip….. double check your bill for all charges as we had a random charge on ours. It was removed but worth checking. Nice place, nice food and so much potential.

Very good food (we enjoyed a fish and chips and a 10 oz rump steak, with chips), very good wine (two large glasses of Italian Pinot grigio), a luxurious dram of a 15yr whisky and, last but not least, very good music at the correct volume to accompany the conversation. Total satisfaction is the result.

This is clearly a fairly popular place for their “small plates for £20”. If I wasn’t gluten intolerant it would have been great. However I wasn’t able to order from this menu due to my dietary restrictions. I was happy to discover they had a small gluten free menu when I asked for gluten free beer (which they did not have). However, I was told they could only give me a burger on the gluten free menu due to a broken fryer! Of many options, only the burger was available. So hungry, I went with the burger. Having very little success with gluten free buns in the past, I passed on that. The burger itself was tiny. But deliciously hot and juicy. Too bad it was covered in partially melted like plastic processed orange sliced cheese (not noted on the menu). It was served on a small bed of lettuce with one slice of tomato and a tiny (and I mean tiny) portion of coleslaw. Honestly not worth the £10 they charged. At the end of the day it was sufficient for what I wanted but don’t order it if you’re hungry. You will leave dissatisfied. This could have been easily resolved by serving two of these tiny burgers, more garnish and a heftier portion of coleslaw. Or some other gluten friendly side like crisps or salad. I don’t often write bad reviews but this was so lacking, I couldn’t not. I won’t be back. And to top it all I had to go to the bar to pay. This was unexpected.

Daughter was in today for her birthday dinner. Staff attitude was appalling. Manager apologised but not so much as a drink was offered. Birthday dinner ruined, my family will not be back. Disgusted!!

Wir waren 2x dort,da hieß es:Leider keine Lieferung erhalten, also kein Essen...Wir probierten es ein zweites Mal....Wir warteten 1Stunde,15Minuten auf das Essen...dann zahlten wir unsere Getränke und haben das Lokal verlassen. Also für uns kommt diese Lokalität nicht mehr in Frage.

It was a Sunday evening and the first restaurant we tried required bookings. The bartender recommended Badenoch’s. It is much larger than it appears on the outside and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Our waitress checked with the kitchen about food issues (3 of us do not eat pork). The drinks were tasty as my wife and daughters enjoyed the specialty drinks. We had a variety of plates-the Satay was juicy and tender, the fish and chips were flavourful, the sweet potato fries were really tasty. The only so-so dish was the onion rings, but the Venison burger was served hot and required no condiments. We would definitely come back while in Elgin!

The food here is really good much better than 'pub grub' . My husband had the three small plates for £20. He said they were absolutely delicious. My haddock and chips we're perfectly cooked and probably the best I've had anywhere accompanied by creamy, minty peas and tasty tartare sauce. The staff were friendly and efficient. We would heartily recommend a visit.

Not so great. Poor disabled access due to staff parking. Not big on hygiene and not somewhere you would take your old Mum

Ok so this place has changed not for the better for a 25 year old however... i like it i just preferred the female wwe wrestling on tv and free shots after spending money on drinks all night its kinda a joke 3 pounds a shot its 1 pound in central belt guys... same stuff different price boys also what happend to the guy the that ran the bar we liked him plus the music and less fairy lights and fake plants its not your brand thanks x
