Unique restaurant strongly recommended a visit

Can’t really comment much on the atmosphere as was outside but it was a relatively sunny day. Cafe not dog friendly but we could sit outside and the staff provided us with a dog bowl. We were told orders can’t be taken outside and had to go to the bar which is fine but after we had ordered someone came up to us outside and asked if we wanted to order so was a bit contradicting. The ice cream was really nice but the reason for the review really was the panini I had. It was not good. It came with a pile of lettuce, 2 slices of cucumber and some coleslaw. Looked like the stuff you’d get in the Tesco meal deal section. The panini was burnt. The bread looked like a baguette that had grill lines drawn on to it. I was disappointed with it especially for the price it was not worth it. But I seen other peoples food looked alright so might just go for something else if I go back.

Overall experience was shocking-absolute chaos. Called a few weeks in advance asking for a table by the wall and was told that was okay. However, when we turned up we got sat right in the middle of the room as well as by the till where constant people were walking. After bringing our request for this to their attention they refused to move us to a different table as it was “fully booked” then proceeded to accept walk ins. Rude staff- complaining about customers phoning because of how “busy” it was, also walked away whilst we were mid sentence on multiple occasions. As we were sat by the bar we could hear the Manageress? Who seemed pretty overwhelmed and hostile the entire time to staff and indirectly to customers which affected the atmosphere. Overall service was not good. Food was okay however, would not return.

Set in a beautiful location the Salt Cellar has a great atmosphere. We stopped for lunch basic but tasty and plentiful.

We hadn’t booked but they managed to find myself, my husband and 4 year old a table. My husband and I had the triple meat roast which was faultless, absolutely delicious and for the good price of the roast, it came with a dessert. Will definitely look forward to a return trip and meal in the salt cellar.

Hugely disappointed. The burger was soaked in grease witch made the bun soggy chips tasted funny And so did the salad (fishy) Whole lot went in the bin My husband says his spag Bol was just ok but he wouldn’t buy it again.

We have recently moved upto Scotland and decided to have Lunch at the sea salt cellar. Lovely setting with a warm proffessional feeling. My wife had a large glass of Merlot ( reasonably priced) The prime beef Sunday roast followed by Sticky toffee pudding and custard. I had the Sunday special trio meat and the sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream. We had a pot of tea to wash it all down !! All this for £39.90 which was excellent value compared to some places. There is a upstairs fish resturant which was closed, we will be back in the summer to try it out.

Without a doubt one the nicest restaurants in Moray, if you’re visiting Lossiemouth I would highly recommend. The service is always top tier with friendly, helpful staff. Loads of choice and a pretty good kids menu as a bonus. Went today with my partner and had a lovely Sunday roast so I am definitely full for the day.

The starters were great but the mains were dreadful. We were disappointed with our experience.

It was a bit of a disappointment tbh. Such a shame because it’s a pretty restaurant and the staff are so incredibly lovely. My husband had pâté and then a burger which he said both were alright, not bad at all but nothing to shout about. I had garlic mushrooms and then mussels and fries. The garlic mushrooms were either tinned or frozen mushrooms with butter and garlic salt, greasy and the texture was not good. The mussels were overcooked the first time, so I asked to send them back and was offered a second portion. The staff were really lovely about this and I felt awful. But the second portion were equally over cooked and tasted really vinegary, so I just gave up and to be fair no one asked how the second portion was anyway. It says on the menu that they’re fresh moray coast mussels, but I would bet a months wages that they’re not. And finally, the menu doesn’t include VAT, so don’t expect to pay the price on the menu. (Their pretty average Pinot Grigio is also £8.75 a glass - and no drinks menu is supplied). But the staff were great!

My wife and I visited week beginning 20/11/23/. We visited least year and left a very positive review so had no qualms in returning this year. I had looked at the menus on line before booking including what was titled 'salt cellar new layout' the prices being different to the ones on the actual online menu I assumed the 'New Layout would be the correct pricing. On looking at the menu in the place itself the prices were again different (more expensive) I assumed that the menu is the establishment must have the 20% VAT added on. My wife and I ordered the full and half fish and chips. The portion sizes where good, the chips undercooked and could have done with a few more minuets in the fryer. The fish batter was soggy and dank not light and crisp as it was last year. The side salad was adequate with a very nice tasting dressing on it. When the bill arrived I noticed it was more than the prices on the menu at which point it became clear that the 20% VAT was not already included on the menu price, in my opinion very deceptive given there was no notification on the menu that the prices quoted are not what you will actually pay also that some people on a tight budget could rightly assume that the price advertised is the price you pay. The wine was ridiculously expensive £8.75 for a glass, waiting staff where warm and friendly. Sadly not a place I would revisit.

We arrived and the waiter gave us the menus cards but forgot to give us the drinks cards. We ordered starters only for the waitress to mistake our starters with the table besides us who arrived at least 10 minutes after us. The starters were good, my boyfriend took the Cullen risotto which was quite good so his main was fine ! But I took the fish and chips and was very disappointed. First of all the vegetables (peas and lettuce) weren’t seasoned at all, and the fish was just so greasy that it wasn’t good anymore. My boyfriend is a cook in France so he can guess those things - and it seemed like the frying itself wasn’t that good quality speaking. I don’t really recommend this place, but the woman in charge of the restaurant was really nice and the place itself was quite warm and welcoming.

Worst steak I ever had, at least since I was 18 living on my own cooking my first steak, where you just throw it on a medium heat pan until it turns grey and tastes a bit like liver. But at least then I could say YouTube didn't exist so I had an excuse, the cook there should watch a 5 minute video about the basics on steak cooking. 3 of us got steaks and all overcooked and same experience. I would have told our server but she disappeared once our food arrived. Other dishes were fine and it was cool looking inside, just don't get a steak.

Well first off all the pizza they are probably the only "better" food there. The steak super rubbery the peas tasted fake that came with the steak also the steak reaked off bad smell and tasted like liver, overall just small amounts of food for such big money not the ideal place to come with a family, not comming here again.

We went here for dinner on our last night of our holidays. Able to get a table no problem as wasn't overly busy when we went but was early and during the time we were there got busier. Service was really good, they did make a mistake with my partners meal but quick to rectify and apologise. Food was lovely and would recommend going there.

Only been a handful of times when visiting Lossiemouth but always had a positive experience and the food is delicious. Will definitely return next time we're in the area.

We booked here twice while on holiday and enjoyed both nights. We choose off the special board, steaks and lobster risotto absolutely yummy. One of the waitresses told us to ask for a meal which wasn't on the board (cant recall the name) it was steak, lobster, prawns with a cheese sauce and that was amazing. The staff were so friendly too

As a vegetarian I only had one option on the menu and that wasn't great. If you like eating grease, then this is the place to go. Service is fast and efficient though.

Good atmosphere and good service. The food was good not great but on the whole a pleasant experience.

Unfortunately you can't take a dog into the restaurant, they probably don't need it anymore. We went to the Firth Hotel instead, which is highly recommended.

A lovely place for a bite to eat the fish I had was cooked perfectly and the full Scottish breakfast my friends had was great. Portion sizes were more than ample and I will see visit again.

Last minute decision to book and eat here while on holiday here in Lossiemouth. Sunday Roasts, plentiful amount, good quality food and very friendly and helpful staff. Value for money as Sunday Roast comes with a Ice cream Sunday included! 😊 Booking in advance is advisable as very popular Highly recommended!

Genuinely the nicest meal out I've had in ages. The stroganoff was amazing. The staff are great, as is the restaurant/atmosphere, the food is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable too. Definitely worth visiting if you get the chance, though I'd recommend booking a table before you visit to avoid disappointment.

Nice food and great location. Service could be better. But all in all wouldn't stop us from going again.

Visited the Salt Celler with my Italian friends a couple of times. As we had a dog we had to eat outside but as the weather was good it was more than acceptable. We were five persons and we all ate a snack consisting of different Baked potatoes. Everyone was exceptionally happy with the food and service. Well worth a stop if you're hungry and visiting Lossiemouth.

Wow, what am amazing find, we had spent the day on the beach and just spotted this gem on the way back to the car, the service was quick the staff were all lovely, the food well amazing , expected a huge bill for the 4 of us and was really surprised at how good value it turned out to be, amazing place, great atmosphere, food to die for, we will be back again and again to this gem .

A nice place with some nice staff. The food is OK. Perhaps avoid the £30 Steaks as it’s a pricey way to eat an (at best) so so steak.

Nice quiet lunch inside, sun was shining so most people were outside. Easy enough to get pushchair down the step and just about enough room to have it by the table. Food was great!

Was here a few years ago and found everything about it to be excellent. Unfortunately this time on 11th of Mat we found the food disappointing, the portion sizes were shocking compared to restaurants elsewhere recently. Food was still tasty but could do with sorting the portions, cullen skink and half fish would have thought were kids portions. Muscles was also small. Sorry guys but always truthful. Hopefully get back up later in the year.

Popped in on a Monday night with no reservation and managed to get a table no bother. Ordered the chicken skewers for a starter and they were really good but the star of the show was the main course. I tried the lobster risotto from the specials board and it was incredible. The risotto was cooked in a lobster bisque and there was a generous lobster tail served on top that couldn't have been cooked any better that it was, it was absolutely perfect and a really amazing plate of food. The service was also excellent, they have a very friendly team and they run a tight ship, hopefully I find myself in the area again soon to try more of the menu

They put on a High Tea for 26 of the Ellon Ramblers. Everybody was very happy with their meal, tea and cakes. Thank you for making this a memorable day.

We initially stopped for drinks but this felt like a ‘proper’ restaurant so while we were made welcome we said we’d prefer to go elsewhere and the lovely waiting staff pointed us to their sister pub (which was also v nice). But we went back here for food because we liked the lady and decided to eat outside. We had the grilled seafood platter and their fillet steak special. Both absolutely delicious. You pay the price for good quality though. Didn’t grudge a penny! In hindsight we’d have eaten indoors and taken advantage of the table service but this was the meal of my holiday!

went there for dinner.only two coupls in the service was total rubbish .young staff walking about doing nothing and waited 30 min to take our order. the food was was not that good . wont go back money wasted

Went here for lunch a couple of weeks ago and have to say it was delicious. My husband and I had different types of burger from the menu and the were both beautiful. We added onion rings and the portion was huge. There's lots to choose from. The staff too are attentive without being obtrusive. I was looking forward to icecream for dessert but was too full. Next time. Will be back.

80th birthday dinner for family. Friendly atmosphere, average service (starter cutlery plonked in a pile in the middle of table by youthful waitress, lack of napkins). Food was average and we should have stuck to the burger and fries. Disappointing, salty, dry moules marniere with barely any sauce. An Angus steak that was thin and tiny (and cost £29......). So, an average experience. But the staff are all lovely and friendly. I just recommend sticking to the burgers.

It was terrible food, which was overpriced. Lobster was the same price as Catch79, but there was literally a puddle of pure butter making the dish inedible.

Lovely quaint restaurant. Had the muscles which were really nice fresh in a lovely sauce. Mrs had Steak which again was superb. Had really nice meals. Only thing in need of improvement is service not terrible but could be polished.

Service fast and friendly. Food was pretty rough. Whatever you do don’t order breakfast. Everything was undercooked…plenty of staff to take your your order but nobody came to check our undercooked food.

Fabulous meal in a beautiful cavern type restaurant. Really well presented looked lovely and inviting. The menu choice was extensive and varied. So difficult to choose. The food arrive hot and presented perfectly. It was amazing a taste explosion. The staff were accommodating and helpful, very polite and efficient. Definitely worth a visit.
