It's a great place to sit out with the dog and have a meal. I have had good experiences when dining with my partner or friends. Unfortunately, on this one occasion, I was on my own with my dog and unable to go into the restaurant, so I asked a passing member of staff for a menu, which was brought out to me. Unfortunately, I waited 20 minutes for a response to order a meal. A couple sat next to me, kindly looked after my dog while I went to the bar to see why no one had come back to take my order. The reply was " I forgot" 🫣. Oops . I ordered a prawn cocktail with a salad and a piece of crusty bread, as described on the menu. But, what I received was a wee portion of shrimps in a wee dish containing a scrap of lettuce, a tiny wedge of tomato, and a thin slice of cucumber. The best bit was that the crusty bread was a slice of fruit bread. The description and the price did not reflect on the quality and quality of the prawn cocktail. Therefore, I can not give it a 5 star rating.

The place is lovely, the food is great and the prices are great , but we were sat between 2 large groups, which were very noisy and to say rather rude and extremely foul in their behaviour and language. Staff never seemed to be interested on 2hat was going on . We could nit even talk to each other they were so loud . So we ate and went to pay the bill, we were told we would have to wait to pay . Shame as it could be amazing place but customers seem to rule .

We were thoroughly disappointed. We waited an hour for our food. When it arrived the order was wrong, I asked for a fillet steak medium, I received a fillet steak with haggis, pate which i dislike and it was rare, my father in law requested a rare fillet steak with haggis, he received a well done steak with no haggis. The Sunday roast was dry and the meat in general was tasteless. We didn’t wait for pudding as the wait for lunch was so long, very expensive for the poor quality food and service we had received, much nicer places in Lossie to eat.

Had an outstanding meal here. My friends both had Cullen Skink to start and they were both very impressed with it. I had the garlic mushrooms which were also superb. My main was the sirloin and it was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of chips and veg to go along with it. My friends had the steak pie and Cullen Skink risotto respectively, and they too were praising the dishes highly. Comfortable surroundings with very capable and attentive staff, so I would recommend it highly.

My family and I ate out late on a Friday afternoon at the Salt Cellar / Smugglers / Guidis (all the same place, same kitchen) and I was shocked and upset about how I was treated by the owner of the place. When my food arrived I quite surprised at the size of the piece of monkfish I was served. As you can see in the photo the size of it was similar to that of a standard sized mayo packet width and length wise, depth wise it was around 1.5cm. I called the server back over and pointed this out to him and very nicely (not angry, not rude) just explained that for £23 I didn't think this was an acceptable size of fish. That size of fish I'd expect at a Michelin starred restaurant, not Guidi's in Lossiemouth. The server went away to have a word with the chef and came back and offered me another portion. Which I agreed too. It came out, still on the smaller size but a lot better so all good, all sorted. Until 10/15 mins later this guy (I later found out was the owner) came storming over to me and in a very passive aggressive tone demanded to know "are you happy now" - his exact words. I was in shock to be honest but said "yes, thank you, this piece was much better". Oh boy. I was then subjected to, again very passive aggressively to a lecture about the cost of fish and he even then pulled out his phone to show me a photo of man sized halibut (or some other fish, definitely wasn't monkfish) and was told it cost him £500. He then went on and on about how expensive this fish was and basically I think the point he was trying to make was that I shouldn't be moaning about the size that I was served. He then stomped back off both leaving my partner and 12 year old daughter to declare that they wanted to leave now. My daughter was so upset she left half of her pizza. That was our lovely Friday night treat absolutely ruined, by what I can only describe as a nasty bully. Oh and I paid £85 to be treated like that! So word of warning. Don't eat there. If you do, don't complain about anything and certainly don't do the right thing and complain in person when you're in the restaurant to allow them the opportunity to rectify it. Wait until you've left the establishment and write a bad review online. Lesson learnt

Visited Lossiemouth for a day out while on holiday. Decided to call in here for some lunch. The staff were all very friendly to us and attentive even though it got rather busy whilst we were there. My only criticism would be that we were charged more than what we were expecting. After reading other reviews on here it is apparent that we aren’t the only ones who have experienced a hike in the price. One of the reviews even said that the menu does not include VAT! So, I would suggest that the menu is revised to reflect the correct prices so there are no surprises at the end. As I say, this was my only criticism as we had an otherwise pleasant experience dining here. Thank you.

Sadly we had a disastrous experience. When we arrived it was busy outside but there were plenty of tables. Someone came over, gave us some menus and took our drinks order. The arrival of our drinks was the last good thing to happen. We waited so long for someone to take our food order I queued at the bar, only to be told someone would be right over. They took our order, but we also asked for some water for the table. 30 mins went by and no food or water. We finally caught a waitress who brought over the water and said the food would be a few minutes. We waited another 10 and still no food. We went up to the bar to ask, where they didn’t seem to know what we ordered but said it would be on its way. After 50 minutes we went back to the bar and waited to ask after our food whilst the staff behind the bar berated the new system and ignored us. Ultimately after an hour we gave up, paid for our drinks and left. And we weren’t the only ones to give up. I don’t know whether it was because of the new system or the start of the busy summer season, but the complete lack of knowledge about what was going on amongst the staff was astounding, and the way they handled it atrocious. Sadly I think it’s put us off ever returning.

Superb seafood restaurant set with a very stylish cellar style building and backed up with a great menu including quality fresh produce and the seafood is excellent. I had the langoustines as a starter which were served with salad and a garlic butter, tasted great. For main I opted for a whole lobster which I had served with a garlic butter, rice, salad and artisan bread. Great flavours. Fast and friendly service compliments an excellent experience. Highly recommended.

Beautiful venue but unfortunately a pretty bland pub-style menu. We booked a table for dinner on Sunday evening but there was no need to. Before our meal we had a drink in the Smuggler's bar, where there was a much more interesting menu featuring plenty of local seafood. As far as I can work out, Smuggler's, the Salt Cellar, Bridge 45 and a sports bar are all operated by the same folk (they are all adjacent to one another too) so it was disappointing not to have the same menu options in the Salt Cellar. If you're looking for an atmospheric venue but not a particularly tantalising menu, then I can recommend the Salt Cellar. If it's a varied selection of fresh seafood you're after (which we were), I'd stay in Smuggler's bar. I wish we had!

Staff were friendly and efficient. The venue was interesting and inviting. The restaurant predominantly focuses on fresh local seafood and on that front, everyone was happy and food was commendable. The vegetarian burger meal was an after thought. Fairly confident it was a frozen Birdseye vegetable burger with standard fries and side salad. Just think if it's on the menu, it should be a solid attempt of producing a quality meal and not just to tick the vegi option box.

Planned on going somewhere else for dinner and according to their website they had Mac and cheese, which is what my daughter really wanted, turned out it wasn't on the menu, so we ended up searching for somewhere else and settled on here, thankfully they had a table and Mac and cheese! My husband had the fish and chips, I had the beach beef burger (nearly got the Sunday roast as those menu options looked fab) and my daughters the Mac and cheese, we got one mozzarella sticks to start, they were delicious and wished we'd ordered more to share! Thought one fussy daughter might not have like them but she did. Mains were good portions and tasty. We got sticky toffee pudding for dessert, husband opting for custard with his and I got ice cream, both had plenty of toffee sauce, sometimes you need more but not tonight, daughter had the apple pie which was gone in no time at all! Staff were attentive, friendly and on the ball. Prices ok too, would definitely return if in the area on holiday again.

Best thing about this restaurant is the view from outside tables. Inside appears pleasant enough. Portion sizes stingy and some items expensive for what they are. £4.50 for a latte !!! Can’t really comment much on the atmosphere as was outside but it was a relatively sunny day. Cafe not dog friendly but we could sit outside and the staff provided us with a dog bowl. We were told orders can’t be taken outside and had to go to the bar which is fine but after we had ordered someone came up to us outside and asked if we wanted to order so was a bit contradicting. The ice cream was really nice but the reason for the review really was the panini I had. It was not good. It came with a pile of lettuce, 2 slices of cucumber and some coleslaw. Looked like the stuff you’d get in the Tesco meal deal section. The panini was burnt. The bread looked like a baguette that had grill lines drawn on to it. I was disappointed with it especially for the price it was not worth it. But I seen other peoples food looked alright so might just go for something else if I go back.

Overall experience was shocking-absolute chaos. Called a few weeks in advance asking for a table by the wall and was told that was okay. However, when we turned up we got sat right in the middle of the room as well as by the till where constant people were walking. After bringing our request for this to their attention they refused to move us to a different table as it was “fully booked” then proceeded to accept walk ins. Rude staff- complaining about customers phoning because of how “busy” it was, also walked away whilst we were mid sentence on multiple occasions. As we were sat by the bar we could hear the Manageress? Who seemed pretty overwhelmed and hostile the entire time to staff and indirectly to customers which affected the atmosphere. Overall service was not good. Food was okay however, would not return.

It was a bit of a disappointment tbh. Such a shame because it’s a pretty restaurant and the staff are so incredibly lovely. My husband had pâté and then a burger which he said both were alright, not bad at all but nothing to shout about. I had garlic mushrooms and then mussels and fries. The garlic mushrooms were either tinned or frozen mushrooms with butter and garlic salt, greasy and the texture was not good. The mussels were overcooked the first time, so I asked to send them back and was offered a second portion. The staff were really lovely about this and I felt awful. But the second portion were equally over cooked and tasted really vinegary, so I just gave up and to be fair no one asked how the second portion was anyway. It says on the menu that they’re fresh moray coast mussels, but I would bet a months wages that they’re not. And finally, the menu doesn’t include VAT, so don’t expect to pay the price on the menu. (Their pretty average Pinot Grigio is also £8.75 a glass - and no drinks menu is supplied). But the staff were great!

My wife and I visited week beginning 20/11/23/. We visited least year and left a very positive review so had no qualms in returning this year. I had looked at the menus on line before booking including what was titled 'salt cellar new layout' the prices being different to the ones on the actual online menu I assumed the 'New Layout would be the correct pricing. On looking at the menu in the place itself the prices were again different (more expensive) I assumed that the menu is the establishment must have the 20% VAT added on. My wife and I ordered the full and half fish and chips. The portion sizes where good, the chips undercooked and could have done with a few more minuets in the fryer. The fish batter was soggy and dank not light and crisp as it was last year. The side salad was adequate with a very nice tasting dressing on it. When the bill arrived I noticed it was more than the prices on the menu at which point it became clear that the 20% VAT was not already included on the menu price, in my opinion very deceptive given there was no notification on the menu that the prices quoted are not what you will actually pay also that some people on a tight budget could rightly assume that the price advertised is the price you pay. The wine was ridiculously expensive £8.75 for a glass, waiting staff where warm and friendly. Sadly not a place I would revisit.

We arrived and the waiter gave us the menus cards but forgot to give us the drinks cards. We ordered starters only for the waitress to mistake our starters with the table besides us who arrived at least 10 minutes after us. The starters were good, my boyfriend took the Cullen risotto which was quite good so his main was fine ! But I took the fish and chips and was very disappointed. First of all the vegetables (peas and lettuce) weren’t seasoned at all, and the fish was just so greasy that it wasn’t good anymore. My boyfriend is a cook in France so he can guess those things - and it seemed like the frying itself wasn’t that good quality speaking. I don’t really recommend this place, but the woman in charge of the restaurant was really nice and the place itself was quite warm and welcoming.

Worst steak I ever had, at least since I was 18 living on my own cooking my first steak, where you just throw it on a medium heat pan until it turns grey and tastes a bit like liver. But at least then I could say YouTube didn't exist so I had an excuse, the cook there should watch a 5 minute video about the basics on steak cooking. 3 of us got steaks and all overcooked and same experience. I would have told our server but she disappeared once our food arrived. Other dishes were fine and it was cool looking inside, just don't get a steak.

We went here for dinner on our last night of our holidays. Able to get a table no problem as wasn't overly busy when we went but was early and during the time we were there got busier. Service was really good, they did make a mistake with my partners meal but quick to rectify and apologise. Food was lovely and would recommend going there.

Only been a handful of times when visiting Lossiemouth but always had a positive experience and the food is delicious. Will definitely return next time we're in the area.

We booked here twice while on holiday and enjoyed both nights. We choose off the special board, steaks and lobster risotto absolutely yummy. One of the waitresses told us to ask for a meal which wasn't on the board (cant recall the name) it was steak, lobster, prawns with a cheese sauce and that was amazing. The staff were so friendly too

As a vegetarian I only had one option on the menu and that wasn't great. If you like eating grease, then this is the place to go. Service is fast and efficient though.

Unfortunately you can't take a dog into the restaurant, they probably don't need it anymore. We went to the Firth Hotel instead, which is highly recommended.

Last minute decision to book and eat here while on holiday here in Lossiemouth. Sunday Roasts, plentiful amount, good quality food and very friendly and helpful staff. Value for money as Sunday Roast comes with a Ice cream Sunday included! 😊 Booking in advance is advisable as very popular Highly recommended!

Genuinely the nicest meal out I've had in ages. The stroganoff was amazing. The staff are great, as is the restaurant/atmosphere, the food is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable too. Definitely worth visiting if you get the chance, though I'd recommend booking a table before you visit to avoid disappointment.

We had the best afternoon tea at Threaplands! There was sausage rolls, quiche, a good mix of sandwiches, delicious cakes and copious amounts of tea! All served by friendly, helpful staff. A great experience. We’ll definitely be back!

Outstanding breakfast, I've never had a breakfast anywhere that was too much for me until I came here. Nice staff, will be back as soon as I've managed to get over how full I was

Great food and friendly staff. Loved the Sunday roast. Our dog is allowed to sit with us at the table in the entrance foyer. Keith & Lorraine

Some of the local produce and bakery items were decent, but so much of what they sell is overpriced, and you can find it elsewhere. They do have a nice selection of gifts, but that’s really the only plus. However, one staff member in particular, came across as really stuck up and seemed to be giving my family and me dirty looks—not very approachable.. We didn’t try the coffee shop, so can’t comment on that but not exactly in a rush to return.
