Great setting and comfortable too. I had Moules Mariniere with Garlic Bread starter and Rump Steak Garnie with Hand Cut Chips, I was looking forward to real chips. I got a generous amount of mussels but they were very over cooked and so salty as to be unpleasant, served with a very small slice of baugette. I left the sauce because it was so salty. My steak was not a steak it was two very small pieces of meat, I asked the waitress about the size and got a rude reply before she walked away. Because we had guests I decided to not persue the matter, this was a mistake, the meat tasted stale, the mushrooms, tomatoes and peas were cold and the 'hand cooked chips' were frozen chips which tasted of burnt cooking oil. I left the chips and noticed that our guests left theirs too. When we had finished a lady asked if everything had been ok. I told her about my main and she took the complaint very seriously and sent someone else, who was very apologetic, to see us and I was asked if I would like anything else but it was all too late. I was charged the full price for my appalling meal which says it all.

Have eaten here many times over the last few years and was always a joy, however....our last visit may well be our last visit. Ambience is still ok but the changes to food not very welcome. Sirloin Steak and spaghetti bolognese for mains. Sticky toffee pudding and custard and cheesecake of the day for desserts. Sounds mouth watering but lets dig a bit deeper. Mains arrive had to ask for sauces and condiments which when they did arrive wasn't what we had really asked for and no option of parmesan for the bolognese. Steak cooked to perfection i like medium rare and the "hand cut chips" i'm sure Aunty Bessie was proud of them. The steak was about 3/4 fat and grizzle, not how i remember them. The bolognese was served in a plate that made it look like a meal but the centre was shallow and the bolognese itself was runny and not that great tasting none of the mains cleared. There was no complimentary is everything ok chat. Now desserts sticky toffee pudding arrives in again a large rimmed plate with very little in the middle of where the dessert was. Measuring about 40mm by 45mm i thought i had ordered a kids portion ( similar to the bolognese main). The cheese cake then landed and looked and tasted like it had been sitting for a while again not fully consumed. We were sat not far from the bar area and watched conversations with front of house staff some of which did not look very comfortable with one lady in particular being the main reason for this a bit uncomfortable to say the least. The above with 2 pints and a soft drink came to @£73 and considering what we had and the experience all in left the bitterest taste in our mouths. Now i'm sure that many people have had great experiences here but unfortunately this wasn't us on this visit and compared to food quality and pricing in the past this is our last, We understand the current economy etc but you can't be seen to cut corners and not be noticed

Was at the salt cellar for dinner on Saturday, and i just want to put forward some feedback, I called up a couple of hours before hand to book a table for half 6, but when i arrived myself and my party were told someone was sat on my table that I reserved and were then directed towards the bar next door to wait, went back to the restaurant after 10 minutes table was still not ready and were told to go back and wait for additional 20 minutes half an hour after my original reservation, we were all slightly confused why this happened when i had booked a table and had not walked in unexpectedly. It then took your staff 15 minutes to get a food order in, when questioning your member of staff about allergies as my friend has a mushroom and truffles allergy they did not proceed to check if the carbonara had any truffles and mushrooms in it as well as not recording that we had a allergy on our table, better training needed there. then for us to have our starters finish our starters to wait and additional 30 minutes for our mains we were again confused why none of your staff were unable to check on us or communicate to us why there was a wait on our mains understanding if it was busy at the time however there was 5-6 members of staff on for a about 20 tables, like plenty people to cover all areas you would think? When i went up to pay they then charged us for our drinks that we paid for at the smugglers which was refunded immediately but again nothing seemed to be communicated before i received the bill, in all honesty communication was a problem and the lack of customer service was as well. also wondering why your VAT is not included in your total price however just an additional charge and why it is not stated on your website that Tapas is only bookable and when we we asked for we were practically shut down and told no we cannot have it instead of accommodating us when it was asked about. would love to return as food was spot on just that customer service was lacking

If you can’t be bothered to do a Sunday lunch then please don’t advertise that you do! Beef dinner was warmed beef in gravy, a spoon of powered mash and two other potatoes that were advertised as roasts but if they were shown to the oven it was a bonus. Aunt Bessie Yorkshire pudding. Cabbage with bacon bits and carrots. The pork dinner was advertised with Apple sauce, but this looked more like a brown chutney! Pudding came with the dinner. A choice of a small slice of Sticky toffee pudding, which was just a Carmel sauce over a small cake and although we asked for this with ice cream, custard arrived. The only other choice was advertised as an Ice-cream Sunday! This was a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of strawberry ice cream, whipped cream, a horrid tasting flake and a wafer. In the bottom of the small glass was the ‘fruit cocktail’ mix you get in tins! The other food they do here maybe nice, so stick with that and drop the things you have no time for!

I would give this a 6 if I could! Elly and her team are far way and above expectations. On Sunday night we had wonderful tasty meals and were made to feel truly welcome. On the Monday my husband took ill with flu in the afternoon (not seriously) but didn’t feel like leaving our hotel room. Elly arranged some cold takeout that saved me walking too far and was delicious. We live reasonably local and will be back. A highly commendable team with truly personable values.

I went to meet a friend for coffee today , we walked in and no one acknowledged us so we just sat down at a dirty table, no one came to us for about 15 minutes with menus and a cloth. We ordered coffee and a biscuit and the empire biscuit was awful. Dry and rock solid! the coffee wasn’t nice at all. Poor service and quality. I go here every now and then for a meal but probably not anymore! Just to add the menus and specials haven’t changed in years, same old same old stuff.

I’ll start by saying the old stone cellar setting was lovely and ambient, and the servers who looked after us during our meal were very attentive. However, the quality of the food and the attitude we received from management has ensured that we won’t be back. My partner and I both ordered the “Italian Job” burger, big mistake. The patty was frozen processed filth, the bun was flavourless and the cheese drowned the rest of the plate. I can’t fault the chips but then again it’s hard for frozen potatoes to go wrong. The most upsetting part of the whole ordeal was the attitude we received from management when we complained. I saw the staff looking over their shoulder after we raised the issue (as nicely as we could, we know it’s not their fault) and then we were addressed by a rather sassy manager. We were told after explaining that the food made us feel queasy and unwell, that there were lots of bugs going about and it couldn’t have been the food because it wouldn’t affect us so quickly. Had it been food poisoning this would be true, but we had stated it was just the sheer amount of grease and lack of quality that had made us feel nauseous. She was extremely rude and unwelcoming. We are not the type to complain usually but thought constructive feedback in this instance might be helpful, I manage restaurants in Glasgow and I would welcome this. All in all a pretty poor experience.

I always order the steak and eggs , the quality has become something of a lottery. It used to be amazing , then it started to slide ( burnt eggs) once told the chef that can cook the steaks went home and I would have to order something else. Today was the worst, steak was dry overcooked and had no flavour . I mentioned it to the waitress who said it was the owner in the kitchen. Sorry if this comes as bad news but I just wasted 30 quod and I formally quit order that again . By the way? Your 2 onion rings were like biscuits

I went here twice for lunch, the first time I said I would not return as the food was not up to the price charged. I got a teaspoonful of coleslaw and a tiny piece of lettuce with a quarter of tomato for the salad. I had battered fish with coleslaw and salad. I know not a lot of people eat their salad so may not be bothered by that. My pal had lasagne and swapped her garlic bread for chips, she was not impressed saying it was very little mince in it and no layers, it didn't even look like lasagne, it was very quiet when we were there which was nice and the home cooked chips were lovely. I returned with my two granddaughters to treat them and it was slightly better apart from the this time they would not swap the garlic bread for chips as they had done the week before. Expensive for average food that feels skimped on. I ended up having the fish again as no other meat free options so not a great place if you are vegetarian. I won't be back as I didn't feel value for money but the battered fish was lovely.

It's a great place to sit out with the dog and have a meal. I have had good experiences when dining with my partner or friends. Unfortunately, on this one occasion, I was on my own with my dog and unable to go into the restaurant, so I asked a passing member of staff for a menu, which was brought out to me. Unfortunately, I waited 20 minutes for a response to order a meal. A couple sat next to me, kindly looked after my dog while I went to the bar to see why no one had come back to take my order. The reply was " I forgot" 🫣. Oops . I ordered a prawn cocktail with a salad and a piece of crusty bread, as described on the menu. But, what I received was a wee portion of shrimps in a wee dish containing a scrap of lettuce, a tiny wedge of tomato, and a thin slice of cucumber. The best bit was that the crusty bread was a slice of fruit bread. The description and the price did not reflect on the quality and quality of the prawn cocktail. Therefore, I can not give it a 5 star rating.

We were thoroughly disappointed. We waited an hour for our food. When it arrived the order was wrong, I asked for a fillet steak medium, I received a fillet steak with haggis, pate which i dislike and it was rare, my father in law requested a rare fillet steak with haggis, he received a well done steak with no haggis. The Sunday roast was dry and the meat in general was tasteless. We didn’t wait for pudding as the wait for lunch was so long, very expensive for the poor quality food and service we had received, much nicer places in Lossie to eat.

Had an outstanding meal here. My friends both had Cullen Skink to start and they were both very impressed with it. I had the garlic mushrooms which were also superb. My main was the sirloin and it was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of chips and veg to go along with it. My friends had the steak pie and Cullen Skink risotto respectively, and they too were praising the dishes highly. Comfortable surroundings with very capable and attentive staff, so I would recommend it highly.

My family and I ate out late on a Friday afternoon at the Salt Cellar / Smugglers / Guidis (all the same place, same kitchen) and I was shocked and upset about how I was treated by the owner of the place. When my food arrived I quite surprised at the size of the piece of monkfish I was served. As you can see in the photo the size of it was similar to that of a standard sized mayo packet width and length wise, depth wise it was around 1.5cm. I called the server back over and pointed this out to him and very nicely (not angry, not rude) just explained that for £23 I didn't think this was an acceptable size of fish. That size of fish I'd expect at a Michelin starred restaurant, not Guidi's in Lossiemouth. The server went away to have a word with the chef and came back and offered me another portion. Which I agreed too. It came out, still on the smaller size but a lot better so all good, all sorted. Until 10/15 mins later this guy (I later found out was the owner) came storming over to me and in a very passive aggressive tone demanded to know "are you happy now" - his exact words. I was in shock to be honest but said "yes, thank you, this piece was much better". Oh boy. I was then subjected to, again very passive aggressively to a lecture about the cost of fish and he even then pulled out his phone to show me a photo of man sized halibut (or some other fish, definitely wasn't monkfish) and was told it cost him £500. He then went on and on about how expensive this fish was and basically I think the point he was trying to make was that I shouldn't be moaning about the size that I was served. He then stomped back off both leaving my partner and 12 year old daughter to declare that they wanted to leave now. My daughter was so upset she left half of her pizza. That was our lovely Friday night treat absolutely ruined, by what I can only describe as a nasty bully. Oh and I paid £85 to be treated like that! So word of warning. Don't eat there. If you do, don't complain about anything and certainly don't do the right thing and complain in person when you're in the restaurant to allow them the opportunity to rectify it. Wait until you've left the establishment and write a bad review online. Lesson learnt

Visited Lossiemouth for a day out while on holiday. Decided to call in here for some lunch. The staff were all very friendly to us and attentive even though it got rather busy whilst we were there. My only criticism would be that we were charged more than what we were expecting. After reading other reviews on here it is apparent that we aren’t the only ones who have experienced a hike in the price. One of the reviews even said that the menu does not include VAT! So, I would suggest that the menu is revised to reflect the correct prices so there are no surprises at the end. As I say, this was my only criticism as we had an otherwise pleasant experience dining here. Thank you.

Sadly we had a disastrous experience. When we arrived it was busy outside but there were plenty of tables. Someone came over, gave us some menus and took our drinks order. The arrival of our drinks was the last good thing to happen. We waited so long for someone to take our food order I queued at the bar, only to be told someone would be right over. They took our order, but we also asked for some water for the table. 30 mins went by and no food or water. We finally caught a waitress who brought over the water and said the food would be a few minutes. We waited another 10 and still no food. We went up to the bar to ask, where they didn’t seem to know what we ordered but said it would be on its way. After 50 minutes we went back to the bar and waited to ask after our food whilst the staff behind the bar berated the new system and ignored us. Ultimately after an hour we gave up, paid for our drinks and left. And we weren’t the only ones to give up. I don’t know whether it was because of the new system or the start of the busy summer season, but the complete lack of knowledge about what was going on amongst the staff was astounding, and the way they handled it atrocious. Sadly I think it’s put us off ever returning.

Beautiful venue but unfortunately a pretty bland pub-style menu. We booked a table for dinner on Sunday evening but there was no need to. Before our meal we had a drink in the Smuggler's bar, where there was a much more interesting menu featuring plenty of local seafood. As far as I can work out, Smuggler's, the Salt Cellar, Bridge 45 and a sports bar are all operated by the same folk (they are all adjacent to one another too) so it was disappointing not to have the same menu options in the Salt Cellar. If you're looking for an atmospheric venue but not a particularly tantalising menu, then I can recommend the Salt Cellar. If it's a varied selection of fresh seafood you're after (which we were), I'd stay in Smuggler's bar. I wish we had!

The vegetarian burger meal was an after thought. Fairly confident it was a frozen Birdseye vegetable burger with standard fries and side salad. Just think if it's on the menu, it should be a solid attempt of producing a quality meal and not just to tick the vegi option box.

My husband had the fish and chips, I had the beach beef burger (nearly got the Sunday roast as those menu options looked fab) and my daughters the Mac and cheese, we got one mozzarella sticks to start, they were delicious and wished we'd ordered more to share! Thought one fussy daughter might not have like them but she did. Mains were good portions and tasty. We got sticky toffee pudding for dessert, husband opting for custard with his and I got ice cream, both had plenty of toffee sauce, sometimes you need more but not tonight, daughter had the apple pie which was gone in no time at all! Staff were attentive, friendly and on the ball. Prices ok too, would definitely return if in the area on holiday again.

Good food and staff. Interior looks nice, but works like a sound box. Hanging something sound-absorbing would make it an even better restaurant.👌

The food and building is great, but it is a very busy place which adds to it feeling a hurried experience. Even though the staff are swift and attentive the pace of the place ends up adding to my feeling rushed. Sad really 😔

We called in for lunch. There was plenty of seats available as it was relatively quiet in the area that day. My mum's Guinness had gritty bits in it but they swapped it without any issues. I had cod in a piazzolla sauce with prawns. My partner had a chicken wrap and my mum had Cullen skink. The portions were generous and the service was good.

Just had an excellent Sunday lunch here and will certainly come back. I had the roast beef and my wife had the salmon - both were fantastic, a well deserved 5 stars.

After a full day's activity seeing the local sites, we needed to refuel and relax. Popped into the Salt Cellar and was not disappointed. Quick and friendly service. Food came quick and hot. As a bonus, the piped music was great.

Best Cullen Skink in Moray. Staff are very pleasant, and the food is scrumptious.

Food was good, however, we reserved a table for 7.30pm, arrived bang on time, only to be told the customers had paid but hadn't left yet. Thank god for the bar next door, then got our table over 30 mins later. First time I've ever encountered anything like this. Also, never got offered desert menu, just 'the bill' by one member of staff. Thankfully, about 10 mins later, a more friendly member of staff asked if everything was ok, and would we like to see the deserts. Mixed feelings about this place. Sadly, won't be back.

Had lunch here 11/04/24. Food very nice, panni, brie and crispy bacon, was very tasty. Reasonably priced but big demerit = toilets down a stair, so no disabled access. We sat outside enjoying the spring sunshine and feeling like we were abroad. Not so good if you don't like dogs, OK for families.

Can’t really comment much on the atmosphere as was outside but it was a relatively sunny day. Cafe not dog friendly but we could sit outside and the staff provided us with a dog bowl. We were told orders can’t be taken outside and had to go to the bar which is fine but after we had ordered someone came up to us outside and asked if we wanted to order so was a bit contradicting. The ice cream was really nice but the reason for the review really was the panini I had. It was not good. It came with a pile of lettuce, 2 slices of cucumber and some coleslaw. Looked like the stuff you’d get in the Tesco meal deal section. The panini was burnt. The bread looked like a baguette that had grill lines drawn on to it. I was disappointed with it especially for the price it was not worth it. But I seen other peoples food looked alright so might just go for something else if I go back.

Overall experience was shocking-absolute chaos. Called a few weeks in advance asking for a table by the wall and was told that was okay. However, when we turned up we got sat right in the middle of the room as well as by the till where constant people were walking. After bringing our request for this to their attention they refused to move us to a different table as it was “fully booked” then proceeded to accept walk ins. Rude staff- complaining about customers phoning because of how “busy” it was, also walked away whilst we were mid sentence on multiple occasions. As we were sat by the bar we could hear the Manageress? Who seemed pretty overwhelmed and hostile the entire time to staff and indirectly to customers which affected the atmosphere. Overall service was not good. Food was okay however, would not return.

We hadn’t booked but they managed to find myself, my husband and 4 year old a table. My husband and I had the triple meat roast which was faultless, absolutely delicious and for the good price of the roast, it came with a dessert. Will definitely look forward to a return trip and meal in the salt cellar.

We have recently moved upto Scotland and decided to have Lunch at the sea salt cellar. Lovely setting with a warm proffessional feeling. My wife had a large glass of Merlot ( reasonably priced) The prime beef Sunday roast followed by Sticky toffee pudding and custard. I had the Sunday special trio meat and the sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream. We had a pot of tea to wash it all down !! All this for £39.90 which was excellent value compared to some places. There is a upstairs fish resturant which was closed, we will be back in the summer to try it out.

Without a doubt one the nicest restaurants in Moray, if you’re visiting Lossiemouth I would highly recommend. The service is always top tier with friendly, helpful staff. Loads of choice and a pretty good kids menu as a bonus. Went today with my partner and had a lovely Sunday roast so I am definitely full for the day.

Visited here three times now. Excellent coffee and cakes, Good for breakfast rolls and lunches. Several Gluten Free options by routine. Indoor and outdoor seating, dog friendly (but please check before going in). Bicycle friendly (if they're well behaved bikes 😉).

Waited over 40 mins for our food. Customers who came in after us received their food before us. When I asked the waitress about our food she said it was on it's way. When it did arrive the food was cold. Really not difficult to get dirty fries with chilli wrong but they did.
