The Ashvale in Moray

Oil, Stale and cold frozen food served. Chewy fish and cold chips that was probably fried hours ago the service. Went in as saw good reviews of the place. Really disappointed in the food quality. Felt sick the whole day after eating that. On top of this, the woman who served seemed arrogant and gave judgemental looks as me and my husband decided to share the same dish and didn't order separately as we were eating there for the first time.

Took an order and cancelled it on me. Still took the money out of my account and told it will be 5 to 10 working days before I get it back. Manger of Elgin hung up because she 'did not have to put up with me complaining ' think twice. UPDATE. I know that this is not strictly what the site is for but please share as I don't want anyone else getting this. Don't, Don't, order online from the Ashvale. We placed an order online 3rd of Jan It was declined as TOO BUSY. Not a problem but they still took the payment 3 days later, it is now 10 days and the money has still not been refunded. They are not interested in sorting this problem out.

Our suppers were very good and usually are always, the person behind the counter was clearly struggling on her own with large orders on the go, what a shame I felt sorry for them

Normally this restaurant is good but we had a big family meal ....pie was rock hard ...Scampi tasted like the rotten...chips cold and the oil needed to be changed

Great takeaway and staff are helpful and friendly. Usually there are deals on website. Website can be difficult to navigate and there must be a simpler way.

If I could give zero stars I would. Chips not cooked properly others tasted reheated the battered jumbo sausage came with out batter. Only 2 stars I'd give was the bairns bottle of juice won't be back

Food was excellent 👌STILL. But Was a bit chaotic tonight on the service side... a boss needs to step in a restore a bit of calm.

This branch of the Ashvale bears no comparison to Aberdeen. Ordered lemon sole which was tiny. When I complained I was told " fish curls " I was not offered another tiny fish or a reduction in my bill. I will certainly not be visiting again!

Visited The Ashvale in Elgin today, 4 April at 5.15pm with my wife, son and granddaughter. Despite recent poor reviews, I have to say that we could not fault the service or the food. My granddaughter had the kids fish and chips which doesn’t come with bread and butter, but she asked if she could have some, no problem. My wife was offered lemon with her hot water. All in all a lovely experience.

Decided to try the Ashvale for the first time. We were super chuffed we did! Best fish and chips we have had in ages. We both opted for the jumbo haddock suppers, the fish was massive!! And our child (aged 2) got to eat for free!!! So so happy with that. He had chicken nuggets and was perfectly happy too, it was proper chicken too and not the usual nugget mulch out the freezer. The staff were fabulous. Our toddler is like many toddlers and wouldn’t sit still, but the staff chatted to him and kept him entertained and looked after. His meal out first and his pudding out first. Couldn’t ask for more, loved it! We will be back 🤩

Ordered a chicken fillets supper and the ashvale whale supper, once delivered opened box expecting a huge fish and was met by a small fish half the size of box and cold chips, put a small bag of quavers beside it too compared size, no way was this a whale supper , not going back this happened to me years ago but twice no thanks

Where to start? Booked a table for 6pm for 2 people. Drove there, place in darkness. Phoned and it was confirmed it was closed. I explained I’d booked not an hour earlier. Then advised to come following night. So turned up second night. Ordered meal, and 2 cups of tea. Meal arrived, but no tea (at that time we were the only table occupied). Went to settle up, we were charged for the tea. I said no tea was delivered, whereupon the waitress can only be described as being snippy, like it was our fault. Came home, phoned and spoke to someone who offered no resolution, and I had to ask to speak to a senior member of staff. At the time of writing I’m waiting for this person to phone. Terrible, terrible service all round.

Visited last night, had fish supper and fish cake supper. The quality of food was very good, chips were crispy and not soggy. Portions were of reasonable size and overall were quite impressed with the experience. Was pricy. Fish supper was £12 and Fish Cake supper was £8.50. I would advise you don’t go past 6pm. They tend to prioritise online orders and can leave you waiting 15/20 minutes, being ignored and then being told there is not enough food left.

Best fish and chips. It’s on the first list of our itinerary when we visit in Elgin.

Spend much time on speyside working, love area and had many great nights out and fine meals For change went to ash vale carry out for fish supper. Big mistake - totally overpriced and overrated. Very basic and had much better for lot less Won’t be back in any hurry. Get cracking haddock and chips in fancy salt cellar in lossie for not much more than an ashvale fish supper

Placed order at 6 and picked the 6.20 slot, then after they took my money I got an email saying my they change my slot space and my food will arrive at 7.20 and when it finally came 7.30 it was cold and the chips tasted like they have been sitting for awhile.

Tasty enough but nothing startling

Takeaway is shocking paid almost £50 for a family of 4 with a prawn cocktail, curry sauce and single sausage added as sides, this price was to include the £4 delivery. Some of our order was not delivered I called right away to have this corrected. Was told this would be delivered right away with next deliveries waited 45mins and it still hadn’t arrived so called again to which they didn’t answer, I called restaurant to have takeaway call me back and was told they are too busy delivering in my area to which I told them I didn’t pay £50 to then have to use my electric to keep other foods warm whilst waiting on the rest and fuel money to go collect the missed bits so would like it delivered asap or full refund! Was told this would be delivered again right away to which ended up being another hours wait!

What a disappoint, I ordered a standard haddock and chips however the piece of fish was really small and overcooked (too dry), however the chips were good. At 10 quid it was not VFM. I will look elsewhere for my next f&c meal

The Ashvale has always been a good fish restaurant and take away, whether it's been Aberdeen, Inverurie, or Elgin. Choose from their range of fish, or set lunch / tea options. My only 'complaint' would be that they no longer have a smoked haddock on the menu.

Excellent fish and chips with good size portions and reasonably priced.

Had a carry out two weeks ago. fish supper and a portion of Scampi. Really nice. Crispy batter and a good portion of chips. Went back tonight. Soggy batter on fish and scampi, small portion of old chips. No consistency, no going back.

The Ashvale take out is ok. I was asked straight away what I would like to order then had to wait as there was a queue waiting for their order. I didn't have to wait too long for my order. The food is ok, I've tasted better.

Have to mention the lady who works in the takeaway section the woman is a gem always very welcoming with a cheery smile Catherine I think her name is food was great too

In Elgin occasionally & decided to try this chippy based on 4star reviews. 6pm on a Tuesday, paid my money for 2 portions of chips. I noted the chips being wrapped & asked if they were fresh. Young boy not forthcoming as I advised him they were not fresh but reheated. Asked for refund, advised not able to refund. Had to compromise with chips recently out fryer after being reheated. What has happened to us, surely I can't be only one who doesn't like reheated chips. By the taste & look they had been fried at least 1 hour before I arrived. BTW reheated is not same as fried twice. Definitely disappointed. Won't be back although am sure I won't be missed...

Went to the Ashvale for supper on Thursday past.We arrived at 7pm.and was told that they were not serving food at that time.We went somewhere else to eat & on checking the Ashvale opening hours, we were well within time to order

My mum has been in hospital for 3 weeks with not much hope she's not eating much she to she fancy a batter Scapa and onion rings and I had jumbo haddock supper which I have had for years but the last have a disgrace batter to thick fish to dry really disappointed really don't think I will be going back to ashvale elgin again which is a shame as I have been a customer for years I very disappointed and for my mum to say in her condition its horrible very disappointing indeed

Haven't been to the Elgi takeaway in some time, it's definitely looking run down and in desperate need of a makeover and upgrade on equipment. Leaky fridge spilling water onto the floor next to a black bag of rubbish lying on the floor doesn't look good! But the fish & Chips are still good and tasty, staff also nice and friendly!

Go in all the time class service and amazing food

Awful chips...all seemed like offcuts from the tatties and very dry...like they'd been reheated or sat for a good while...and certainly not fresh. Tossed out the car window for the birds to enjoy (hopefully) Gravy so thin it was as runny as water...i know times are tough but would a bit of extra gravy powder really break the bank??...considering how much the meal cost. Haggis not particuarly flavoursome either...very bland. Battered sausage ok...but for a meal costing over £12 i was pretty cheesed off. They say they're award winning...really!! I'd be surprised with their current offering served up to me. I'd give the food from this place 4/10 and thats being generous. Wish i'd just gone to maccy d's...support local business they say...yeah right!!

Always go here frae take away suppers. Well cooked and served hot. The restraunt looks good but have nae used it yet.

Ordered a black pudding supper, curry sauce and can of juice. £9.00 it cost which is reasonable all things considered. Guy behind the counter was polite and efficient. Food was ok but chips a little dry. The black pudding was great. Would recommend and will be back. Place also has off street parking and internal seating if you wish to eat in the restaurant!

Worst ever chip shop and delivery service put an order in Sunday 9th September via the app at 17.10pm they mailed me to say that it would be at 17.45 pm sat waiting it never came phoned at 18.00pm she said it was on its way out phoned at 18.15pm got no answer so I redirected my call to the restaurant and she said that it would be with me soon it came at 18.45pm an hour and a half since the ordered was made , the meal was cold chips were horrible had to eat the red pudding as I need to take my tablets with food I think that you need to keep up to date with orders and have someone in checking the job is done properly as this isn’t my first time that it’s happened and reading your customers reviews it’s happening all the time you certainly won’t be getting an order from me again I paid £11

Jumbo haddock chips and peas cup of tea. Haddock was fresh and tasty I was surprised. My mother had a senior citizens fish and chips also with tea. Bill was £28 but fish is expensive today. All in all it was a nice dinner. Although it was very hot inside I was sweating.

Haddock was good, chips ok but curry sauce and peas were inedible. Staff were unfriendly and quite rude. Extremely disappointing.

Had better food here in the past. When the meal arrived we had to ask for the batter to be cooked for longer, on the fish, as it was soft and inedible. Waitress insisted we would get fresh fish even though it wasn’t a problem for us, good job as same fish came back! Seemed like same chips too, as they were rock hard. Tiny portion of peas as well. Won’t be returning as it’s very expensive now and poor quality.

Nice food, but don't bother to complain if there's an issue. We got the wrong food served to our table (battered smoked sausage when my son asked for a normal battered sausage), there was no staff to explain this to as the wee waitress was rushed off her feet. Very politely explained the issue when the chance arose, but when the waitress went to the Manager she said as we'd tried the food she declined to change it, and she said we got served what was ordered- well, if their staff inputs the wrong food order course it's going to be served wrong. Not sure how else you're supposed to tell it's the wrong sausage without trying it. Head office not interested either, asked to pay for a replacement which I did to keep my kid happy. Rest of the order was tasty as normal but the poor handling of the issue puts me off going again - I'd go to Cadora or Northern Fish bar where your custom is welcomed. Customer is always wrong at the Ashvale.

First visit very very disappointed had a medium haddock supper £9.50 was tiny greasy soft batter could not eat it chips were ok I would say it was a small haddock and expected more for the price as other chip shops in local are are cheaper and nicer food

Excellent Scottish fish & chips. Lovely crispy batter and proper chips!!

Food was good and the service was spot on. One woman in particular was very polite and was always checking if we needed any more sauces or drinks.

One word quality . Been here a lot lately because of the quality. carry out or eat in , wonderful staff allways make sure you're happy with what you received 🤝 . They now have ovens in their delivery vans Genius!!! 👏 definitely my go to Chippy 10/10

I ordered a meal through the app at 5.10pm they said it would be out by 6pm , and I’m still waiting if there was a problem they should’ve got in touch with me , I hate it when people let you down but won’t be ordering from u guys again I would phoned but have no credit done it all through the app not happy !!!!

Arrived half an hour after requested delivery time, food was like warm and fish was dry and over-cooked, batter not very nice. Really poor.

Very disappointing very expensive, and the fish was not at all fresh!, The order we placed was for the whole family, not one enjoyed it. Eat here if you’re desperate - but we will definitely not be repeating.

Ordered our 4 meals plus 2 battered sausages, our meals arrived and I reminded the waitress twice that we were still waiting for the battered sausages, but they hadn't come and we had finished our meals. We cancelled them in the end very stingy with tomato sauce.

Good food but service is definitely lacking. Attempted to order by phone whilst driving home from Inverness but it took 40 minutes for anyone to answer phone. Last 2 occasions have resulted in incorrect orders.

Standard fish has shrunk over time.

Terrible service in this place...I ordered a double quarter pounder burger supper with 2 bottles of coca cola and a bag...the girl at the counter asked me if I want relish and salad and I said yes please...WHEN MY ORDER WAS READY THE GIRL FORGOT TO GIVE ME MY BOTTLES OF COCA COLA AND I HAD TO REMIND HER THAT I ASKED FOR A BAG AS WELL......ANNND when I got home there was no relish or salad !!! THERE IS JUST NO NEED FOR THIS KIND OF SERVICE...NO NEED AT ALL!!!
