A hotel advertising food that’s run out of food is in dire circumstances we can all agree. ‘We don’t have any food’ is Scottish hospitality near its best. The sign should say ‘bring your own food we supply the tables and chairs’ . Hard to recommend an eatery without food.

My wife and I had a wonderful meal at the hotel restaurant. Excellent service (English or French). Chicken stuffed with haggis, with a wonderful whiskey sauce. For dessert, a tasty Drambuie Creme Brûlée. All finished off with a smooth Chateau-Neuf-du-Pape and a wee single malt. All made perfect by the spectacular view of Skye. What more could you ask for? A perfect evening. Highly recommended. Five stars.

Was recommended to go here by our host who made a reservation for us. Several people told us Scottish food is typically bland, simple, and this restaurant proved exactly that. The food had absolutely no taste. We ordered steak which came dry and the sidedishes were tasteless. You have much better food at a cheap Uni Cafe. It really seemed like food was taken out of the freezer, heated, and given to us. No preparation whatsoever. The only good thing was the beer. Do yourselves a favor and find a different place to eat, like the nearby Hector Bothy.

Well we stopped off here years ago and had lovely fish and chips so passing by again and thought lets eat here. We wandered in to what seemed to be a deserted hotel, nobody at reception, so try to find the bar, maybe a menu. Find a bar, 3 men having a drink, barman sat on a stool looking at his phone, ignored by everyone so we left. Got a lovely welcome down the road at another hotel. This is awful customer service and will reflect badly on your business.

We had two hours or so in Kyle before we had to catch the return train back to Dingwall. Our first-choice restaurant wasn't serving lunches so we walked the short distance to the Lochalsh Hotel. Yes, they were serving lunch, but in a side room albeit with excellent views across to Skye. Food was good, reasonably priced without being outstanding. We were concerned at the state of the dining room used - the carpet on the floor was just covered in "stuff" and clearly had not been vacuumed in quite a while.

We saw the restaurant sign at the hotel entrance and sat in the area close to the bar and waited for ages at empty tables - no cutlery, etc. Turned out that the only menu was the board at the bar. The most expensive food for what it was that I recollect anywhere, however it was good if not fresh home cooking. We helped ourselves to cutlery, etc and eventually found the salt! You will need to be a fan of plastic flowers as they obstruct the view. The hotel's central heating does not seem to work and it was not warm despite the tiny best efforts of a small electric heater! The view hardly enhanced by the rusting memorial to the mine laying squadron, the table umbrellas that had been left out all winter and the rusting broken chain railing. The hotel burns its rubbish near by.

This is an older hotel and restaurant that probably has a wonderful history and catered to high society at one time. We just stumbled upon it after arriving into town and wanting a late dinner. Weather was windy and rainy and only one other couple was in the small dining room that had a great panoramic view of the bay...and stormy sea. Sweet waitress took our order. I had the sweet potatoe/coconut soup that was quite tasty and some starter prawns that were nicely presented, including a very small salad that completed my prawns. My husband had the steak and ale pie. Instead of a top crust it had three flaky biscuits, not sure why. He said meat was tender but was missing the onions and mushrooms that were to be in with meat. The side dish of parsley potatoes were also good BUT the serving of mixed vegetables looked unappetizing, and were overcooked. That brought the meal down to average, sorry to say. Hearing two men in a nearby bar using the 'F' word frequently didn't sit well with us.

We visited the Kyle of Lochalsh on 12 April 2016. The scenery and setting was magnificent. This, however, is all that the town has to offer. We eventually found one of the 2 places open to eat lunch. The conservatory we werre taken to for food was tired and boring and looked very unloved. The food was extortionately expensive for what it was and was completely uninspiring. The service was okay and the waitress quite friendly. We would not visit again and feel the money paid for very average food was far too much.

We often stop here on nice days to have a few drinks at the tables outside and admire what must be one of the world's great views. They could do so much more to take advantage of this. I know the weather often doesn't permit sitting outside but many people would take a little cold and wind to sit there. We were pleased to see a couple of new benches this year as the old ones are disintegrating. There's also plenty of space inside where you can see the views and enjoy the decent food. I am very fond of this hotel and wish they would do more with it.

Having taken the scenic train route from Inverness we wanted a good lunch so where else seemed obvious but the Lochalsh Hotel, and we weren't disappointed. All meals are ordered at the bar, where a group of retired locals assed their time away having a good natter, and who didn't mind passing the time of day with visitors. The Hotel has some 50+ rooms and was fairly quiet so we had a table in the sun on the dining room which looked out towards Skye.My mussels were enormous and I counted 26 shells at the end of my 'starter'. My colleague has soup with unlimited rolls and butter but my mussels were better value ! Next pan fried scallops (6) plus separate dish of vegetables - so many that as I ate all the scallops which were heavenly, the veg probably went into tomorrow's soup! Service with a smile and our bill of £55 incl tip and 4 beers was good value, entertaining and fun. Views of passing ships too.

This was followed by chicken and leek pie, again very tasty and served with crispy pastry. We were to full for dessert unfortunately.Drop by and try if you are in the area, it is not overly expensive and plenty of parking at the front of the building.

Bar menu only and that is limited and not terribly inspiring, however the lady behind the bar informed us the haddock was fresh and good so we opted for haddock and chips twice. The lady did not lie The fish was lovely the batter was light and not greasy everything else was perfectly fine. Well cooked and nicely presented. I only stayed here for one night and that was more than enough. For the same amount of money, you could stay in some much better local B&Bs. The building itself is in a great position overlooking Skye and is very close to the Skye Bridge. It obviously had its heyday in the '80s and hasn't been touched since. Whilst the rooms are of a generous size, every spare bit of wall or door has been wallpapered or stencilled. The bathrooms are very outdated and could do with a very good dose of bleach and a bit of attention to detail - dirt and dust under sinks, mouldy ceilings, discoloured grout and a 'curtain' that, at night, you can see straight through. The heating wasn't very warm and the room had an extra oil-filled radiator in there - thoughtful of the hotel but it really shouldn't be needed in this day and age.Hot water was at a premium too - I had a bath at 6pm and there was only lukewarm water left. Again, not good enough.I only had breakfast here - the food was good and of the standard expected.Would I come back? No. The are much nicer places to stay in the local area. Next time, I'll be giving my money to the smaller local businesses than to one like this. It has amazing potential but needs to have a large cash injection to bring it up to the standards expected in the 21st Century.

The chicken pie was lovely and lots of it, as well and the accompanying veg. My Hubby had the fried camembert for starter and he said it was nice, followed by the gammon steak which he said was great, and then not having a sweet tooth, the staff came up with a special cheese and biscutes for him, which was a very large portion and he enjoyed. The service was brillent, the staff very friendly and it was a lovely end to our holiday.
