1. We were greeted by crabbit hosts. 2. We were chastised because we arrived late. We could not contact them beforehand because there was no mobile service where we were. We were treated like naughty school children. 3. While they were chastising us they locked the door where the bikes were kept in the hotel and we felt trapped. We were so stunned by their behaviour that we did not say anything. Had we been more alert (after a 50 mile cycle) we would’ve asked to leave the property immediately to look for accommodation elsewhere. 4. While we were unpacking our bikes in stunned silence we were told that the kitchen was closed and if we wanted to eat something we only had 10 minutes to freshen up to get down to the dining room. We had no choice of a menu - they only offered pasta and chicken. , Which seems to be the norm when you arrive late- see review from 2017. 5. We were not told at the time how much dinner would be. 6. While eating our dinner we were asked what we wanted for breakfast. This time we were offered a menu. 7. The room was very small and felt unclean. My bed was right next to the wall where the toilet was. 8. Breakfast time, while walking back and forth in the dining room, they reminded us of the time as they wanted us to leave by 10am. That was the only time when I felt glad to leave that place. 9. They offered us some breakfast bars for our cycle which were out of date

I stay here for 4 nights as I was working away from home. The room was very cold and had to put on layers off clothes to keep warm in my bed at night, my wife phone the hotel on Tuesday to discuss the situation and Lesley “said thanks for letting me it I’ll would sort something out” she tried to sort the heating problem by putting an extra heater and giving a hot water bottle. I paid for B&B but was never given the breakfast part. When I returned from work on Monday night I was told that I had to have Roast Chicken dinner didn’t get a choice. When I spoke to Lesley on the phone to give her feed back she hung up and blocked my number. Room wasn’t clean, dirt and dust everywhere. I felt I was being watched every step. There was dampness and the paint was coming off the walls and ceilings. Food wasn’t to my expectations. (only ate on Monday night as didn’t want to be ungrateful). Did a review on booking.com but you probably won’t see it as it is only good reviews that goes on. Lesley told me that no one ever has given a bad review about how cthe rooms are? Very disappointed.

Stopped here for one night on a work trip and was booked by Hotel Smart (another poor service), the host were great very friendly and the meals were tasty. The room were of a very poor standard i had to sleep in my clothes it was that cold thought i was back in the 70s with no money for electric. I was blessed with having hand cleaning wipes to give the sink and toliet a wipe over. For the price of £69 for the room and breakfast definitely wasnt worth it.

You need to book a table. It is not 'fast food' but enjoyable. The hotel has quite a comprehensive menu but if you have any special diets please give the staff 24 hours notice.

Very poor decor , room poor , shower could do with a clean Bed comfy and clean Donning room needs a good clean and hole in veiling fixed The hosts are lovely and make you feel very welcome , good breakfast

We had booked ahead, and when we saw the outside of the hotel we wondered what we had let ourselves in for. The place looked a bit rundown. However, when we went inside we found a friendly reception, a blazing fire and comfortable sofas in the bar, and a small but quite adequate and comfortable room. We asked about wi-fi and were told it wasn't too good in the room, but to feel free to sit in the bar and use it there (free). So we made ourselves comfortable in front of the fire and did what we needed to do online. Having experienced many meals along the way that were too big for us, we asked about the meal size, and were told it was huge, but we could have a half serve for half-price if we wished. We assured them we did so wish. We sat down to dinner and the meal arrived - a huge plate, and it was full. We explained there was a mistake - we had ordered a half serve. We were informed that this was a half-serve. We had exactly half the usual serve of meat, and half as many potatoes, but we had been given a full serve of vegetables, "because they are good for you". We were told to just leave whatever we couldn't manage, because the dogs would appreciate it. And yes, we were charged half the cost of a full serve. Nothing posh about this place, but if ever we found ourselves in the area again we would happily stay there.

The food was all freshly cooked and tested amazing Roast venison and venison chilli highly recommended

My friend and I called in one early evening around 6.30pm hoping to get a bar meal, nothing too elaborate just something to ward off our hunger..We were greeted with how they didn't do food only for residents and it was not worth there while taking people off the road for food. We are talking about mid-season, no wonder the North has such a bad press from visitors when we can't even get a bag of chips at tea-time!

The host and hostes were helpfull and the breakfast was excellent. We stayed for an evening meal which was delicious. I would stay at this hotel again.

Hotel is tired and in need of a clean & refurbishment. Sunday breakfast is finished, at the very latest, at 08:30... Didn't bother eating and left disappointed with the stay.

Didn't expect much based on reviews before I booked but no alternatives nearby so pressed ahead. Lots of water damage outside ostensibly since the gutters are full of moss and grass. The owners must think guests are blind to the hole in the ceiling that's been covered with parallel strips of wide masking tape, the rear garden where everything is being allowed to sink into the weeds and the rear roof covered with tarpaulin and weighed down with bricks. They need to spend some time addressing these issues and perhaps some money before paying guests don't feel utterly short changed. There are heaps of other places you should try before settling on this place,

Hosts were really nice and kind, breakfast was lovely. Place itself looked like something from a battle scene, especially the "bar" with the massive hole in ceiling.

This restaurant/pub is a very odd place, and consequently very difficult to rate.It is, at first glance, and being completely charitable, shabby. The decor is very rough, and the hole in the ceiling did not add to the ambiance at all; or perhaps it did. The open fire, and old, bursting sofas did, and the whole effect was deeply eclectic. And shabby.However, the hospitality was extraordinary. The hosts, Ian and Lesley, completely delightful and wearing the largest smiles that I have ever seen. Their food, and their fish and chips had been highly recommended, was simply exquisite, and made the whole evening completely worthwhile.Odd yes, but don't be deceived by the first impressions. This is a fun place to spend an evening, and the fish and chips among the best in the land.

Went in and had a lovely welcome from the owner. The menu had every thing from pizza to englet steak (you must try this once in your life !!!! ) Highly recommended.

Don't let the exterior put you off.....inside is the warmest of welcomes. The owners made my daughter and I and our two dogs very welcome. We also had an amazing meal. We were expecting cheap n cheerful yet got top quality produce cooked with skill, to perfection.

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle, this is the perfect place. Although in the town, so shops are only a couple of minutes walk away, its surrounded by fields and trees. Very relaxing. Restaurant on site, very friendly, would definately return.

This will be quite a mixed review we recently ate at the restaurant and stayed in the hotel whilst supporting a charity bike riding group. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and helpful. Some of the dishes at dinner were delicious , some not so (there was a group of us). Breakfast was good and we were able to choose the night before what we wanted. Now the hotel itself - it's an old building and in need of some work. There is a large hole in the ceiling in the bar. The bedrooms have had a lick of paint but the furniture is elderly and also the shower rooms. Did we get a good night's sleep?not really. Would I stay there again? No.

the outside of the property could do with some attention but the friendliness of the staff and the quality and choice of the home made food, more than makes up for it. Special diets are not a problem. we enjoyed several meals here and were never disappointed. Lesley, Ian and Val were also a very good source of local information.

My work buddy and i stayed here whilst working not to far away in Lairg. Great dinner and nice room. And to top it off the breakfast was the best i had eaten in a long time. Recommended!!

Overnight stay in a very comfortable bed, surrounded by good company, the staff and locals. We had an excellent meal and breakfast here, the food was of excellent quality and service was good. A real Highland welcome is found here.
