The Merchant Bar in Glasgow is a solid shout if you're out with friends and looking for a casual place to catch the game. Plenty of screens mean you won’t miss a minute, whether it’s the big match or just background noise to your banter. The atmosphere is laid-back and the staff are friendly enough to make you feel welcome without hovering.
Drinks-wise, you’re well covered — decent selection of beers, and the prices don’t make you wince too hard. It’s a good spot to settle in for a few rounds with the lads (or lasses).
Now, onto the food. The sharing menu is alright — nothing revolutionary, but it’ll soak up the pints. However, I have beef with the steak. Tougher than a Monday morning and chewier than your mate’s bad opinions. The steak pie, sadly, brought back memories of a Pukka pie while at home watching the football — only this one cost more and inspired fewer cheers.
All in all, great place for drinks and sports. Just maybe grab a bite somewhere else if you’ve got high hopes for the food.
I hate leaving one star reviews, but thought it was worth leaving a review to say that we arrived to find the place shut. Nothing on Google or the website.
Took several minutes perusing the Internet to find an article from Glasgow Live confirming Steak & Cherry closed in October of 2024. I imagine that won't be news to anyone who's local, but as someone who isn't, we were a bit disappointed (and sorry to hear).
Great value for money, and the staff were pleasant and the place was spotless as were the toilets,
Service was prompt and good choice of food and drinks
First time visiting here with my dad before a Scissor Sisters concert. Had a lovely Margherita pizza and dad had a minestrone soup, he liked it. Busy on a Sunday later afternoon and friendly staff.
I booked the corinthian for an event and was very disappointed in the treatment I received - I would not recommend booking for an event they simply don’t care failed to reply to my emails calls or written letter
very disappointing experience
Love the art deco touches ! I hired the whole restaurant for a function and brought a jazz singer in ! Staff were outstanding ! Just needed to dim the lights a bit more for jazzy vibes ! Love it !
AVOID AVOID AVOID Food was good we sat and ordered in a hurry for the concert. Tried to pay and was told THEY DONT ACCEPT CASH. just as well i had a card on me. AVOID THIS PLACE. THEY SHOULD TAKE BOTH CASH AND CARD. If i wasnt so hungry id have waited till it was made then walked out. Utterly ridiculous. CASH IS LEAGAL TENDER. poor waitresses live
