Food was disappointing; nowhere near the flavours one would expect with dishes they have on their menu (or at least the names they have put). Good ambience and service

As a kid I grew up hating liver for two reasons, one it tasted horrible and two it was always accompanied with a cuff in the ear and the immortal words ‘eat it it’s good for you’. You can imagine my surprise when a good friend recommended the liver tikka…. It was absolutely amazing and Akbars is worth a visit for that alone. The staff are great the service is on point and if you wanna celebrate a birthday it’s the place to go. Never had a bad meal yet…👏👏👏

Had the best time at Akbar’s have tried so many Desi restaurants in Glasgow but honestly this is the first time ever I had a good experience with food. Service 10/10. Was attended by Hafiz 10/10. Keep up the good work.

I recently visited Akbar’s Restaurant, and let me tell you, it was an unforgettable experience! The food was absolutely top-notch, and the service was exceptional, thanks to my guy Hassain, who made sure we had a memorable time. The sizzlers and seekh kebabs were out of this world—definitely a 10/10! For the main course, Hassain recommended the Charsi Karahi, and wow, it was nothing short of phenomenal. The flavors were rich and bold, truly a culinary masterpiece. If you're looking for an epic dining experience, this place is a must-visit!

We have been here a few times over the years and in my honest opinion it is so much better than manchester, we were visiting this weekend and it was so good to be back. The food is awesome and special praise for Naveed! Wow! This man made our night. I was celebrating my 50th birthday and people are what makes Akbars great. Naveed! Thankyou brother 🙏 💚 You made our night special.

Worst experience! I tried their Haleem, but it wasn’t Haleem at all. I’ve been eating Haleem all my life in Pakistan and even cook it myself, so I can confidently say this wasn’t authentic Haleem. Authentic Haleem is made with four types of lentils and other key ingredients, but they only used a low-cost lentil. As a result, it neither looked nor tasted like real Haleem. Yet, they charged the same price as a lamb Karahi from a well-known restaurant. Absolutely disappointing! Their dishes only have Indian and Pakistani names, but the taste and appearance don’t match the authentic versions. I won’t be returning. You’re better off trying places like Namak Mandi, Dumpukht Lahori, and others. Avoid this place—total scam!

Surreal experience Exquisite food Admirable service All the way from Edinburgh

I find the cash only policy in the weekends ridiculous. It makes me wonder about the reasons behind it. Surprisingly the cash machine stops working when the restaurant is full and in the weekends. The food is great though but I will not go there again.

First time after about 4 years, food was excellent service great. Need some heat as it was a bit cold with the Aircon on.

So… The place itself had a warm atmosphere and the service was credible. The waiters were attentive and things like location, prices and aesthetic could not be faulted. However, the food was underwhelming, tasteless and forgive me but “unasian-fied”, it makes sense if the majority of the customers are not south asian, but what does that say about the authenticity of the food? Okay so I had lamb chops which were coated in corn flour, it’s still between my teeth, with sparing portions of oil infused meat as a consolation of my mistake in ordering it. My gf ordered palak paneer already wary of the risk of a meat disaster. Unfortunately, it could hardly be called palak, it was literally chunks of paneer fried in onions and some bland spices. She barely ate two bites before giving up. I have to applaud this considering, I was under the assumption that palak paneer could not be destroyed as a dish. Also charging us for a couple bites of mixed pickle? This is usually given for free (as in Rishi’s or Chakoos), learn from them. Next time i don’t like someone- “Go to Akbars”!

Had a fantastic experience at Akbar’s Glasgow! The food was bursting with authentic flavors, and the portions were generous. We started with meat chops and Chapli kebab, both perfectly spiced and cooked to perfection. For the main, the lamb charsi karahi was the highlight—tender, flavorful, and packed with rich, traditional Pakistani taste, paired beautifully with fresh tandoori roti. Service was outstanding, with special thanks to Ahmad for his great attention to detail and hospitality. To finish off our meal, we enjoyed a delicious desi tea, which was the perfect way to round off the experience. Highly recommend for anyone craving quality Pakistani cuisine in Glasgow. We’ll definitely be back!

Lot to choose from in the area, but Akbars is a great find. Friendly, efficient service, interesting menu, old favourites and some proper Pakistani favourites. Staff very helpful with a couple of additional folk joining and funny and joking during the meal.. stand out to Hussain for his attention. Big stand out was the nan stands, a revelation that every south Asian restaurant should embrace. Highly recommend.

Brilliant food and service. For me though there's one problem, they serve alcohol and put me off. For that reason I've decided to give them 4*. Surely there are many pubs in the area for people who want to drink. There food is 5* no doubt.

Went for dinner with my wife and two daughters. When we were leaving we witnessed an older gentleman falling outside the restaurant and hitting his head. He stood back up and we walked him inside as it was very cold. As he sat down he began to lose consciousness and ended uk on the floor. As 999 had been phoned I began trying to help the man, only for the owner or manager to come to the door and start screaming about loving him out of the doorway. I tried to explain NHS 24 had instructed me, and being a current NHS nursing auxiliary, that the gentleman was not to be moved. He complained we were impacting his business by administering care to the gentleman and I refused to move the man. I won’t be returning as the owner clearly has higher need of people spending money than ensuring the safety and health of someone who has fallen and suffered a head knock. Disgusting behaviour from a business ‘owner’ showing a total lack of community care and/or empathy.

Food, Service absolutely excellent. By far THE best Indian restaurant in Glasgow.

What a wonderful meal and experience we had last night! From the moment we arrived our young waiter Hafiz treated us like long lost friends. He was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, offering alternative recommendations that were gratefully accepted and chosen and generally made us feel like family. The food was exceptional and delicious and coupled with the amazing service made this a very pleasant dining experience. We will certainly make the journey back into town to eat here again. Hafiz is an asset to your restaurant and a fantastic ambassador for your menu and food and really made our night special -so thank you! See you again soon.

The service was amazing, literally the best of Glasgow. I had things explained to me in unimaginable ways. They’re so kind and sweet. The vibes were alright, it’s good lighting for people with makeup. The food was great. However, the butter chicken was quite bland…

Ate here last night with a large group of family member's. Food is always lovely here and once again was great even in a larger group. Our waiter (we did not catch his) was amazing. His service was great! Above and beyond. We had a toddler with us and he couldn’t have been better with her and all of us. We were table 33 and 6:30pm last night, if that helps you locate the waiter to pass on our thanks!

Never ever order karahi chicken or any karahi main dish because you will be served in broken karahi which normally we bin them at home Karahi Chicken I ordered was not as name suggests the chef does not know how to cook karahi chicken He just took boiled chicken pieces add some turmeric salt and red chilli powder put them in broken karahi after garnishing with dhania and served as so called karahi chicken Stupid chef need to learn something from other restaurant chef about how to karahi dishes and how to serve in an unbroken karahi

I went with family (15) for first time we ordered different curries. I ordered jalfrazi first i was extremely spicy and then I asked them to fix it. Long story short giving 3 star as everything was average.

Always a pleasure, authentic Bradford Curry in Glasgow....for those of us who know what a Bradford Curry is....for the rest....ask for Desi style.

Ordered 2 Charsi Karahi one chicken 1 lamb both Came in frying pan. Lol. Whats the point of ordering karahi if its in a frying pan. Secondly the salad was stale. And the paya lol who puts cream in it to make it thick. 🤔 picture are added as well. They started using plastic cutlery plastic plates. Only good this was the drinks.

Very good waiting staff, nice atmosphere but some of the worst curry I’ve ever had in Glasgow. There is no depth to any of the flavours, it all feels cheaply done. Fish pakora, veggie pakoras just had chilli powder thrown in for an attempt at flavour and the kick was uneven (the potato was way over spiced with chilli powder). The chicken jalfrezi looked and tasted more like a korma than a jalfrezi, did they deep fry the lamb chops?! And the biryani’s were a big plate of rice with very little else in them.

Sorry to say this but I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The food quality was poor—everything we ordered was a mess and lacked flavor. The naan breads were undercooked, which was especially frustrating. On top of that, the service was intrusive. The staff constantly hovered around our table, trying to clear our plates before we were even done. It felt rushed, and there was little to no communication from them, which added to the discomfort. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place and certainly won’t be visiting again.

Came from England what can i say, Akbars never disappoints at all. The chops my all time favourite and cheesy seekh kebab for starters were on top. For mains dishes butter was very nice but couldn't beat the taste of Maghaz that would be highly recommend it was too delicious. I would realy like appreciate service of Mr Hafiz who served us although it was very busy but he was making sure everything is perfect and we are enjoying. Ver professional and skilled.

Came back here after 6 months, was put off due to staff attitudes, quality of food dropped, bland nothing desi about it anymore wanted to see if there was any improvements but I’m afraid it’s got worse I’ll stick to Ambala in Polloksheilds

Went out with work staff for dinner. It was packed, but still, the service was fast, and the food was amazing. We got the butter chicken and lamb karhai. They were very flavourful and spicy. Very enjoyable

As usual Akbars does not fail to impress. I usually go to the Birmingham branch however as I was on vacation with the family we researched and to our surprise there was one in Glasgow. The food is always delicious and will always recommend to friends and family.

Delicious food… great for non vegetarians.. veg choices are there but it’s okay types. Best is the chicken tikka, chicken Charsi 😋 and of course the family naan. The lassi is not to be missed 🙌🏻

Akbars managed to accommodate a group of 7 of us last minute, after a nearby restaurant turned out not to be wheelchair accessible, as advertised. We were a group of colleagues with some members having specific mobility and dietary requirements. The team at Akbars were so helpful and attentive - we can't thank them enough. The food was tasty, not to mention substantial in size. There was a happy, informal ambience in the restaurant and we had plenty of space etc. We had a truly great night, dining at Akbars and will be rushing back soon. Thanks to all the staff there - we really appreciate you going above and beyond.

Excellent food always nice and decent location Staff are annoying its good to be waiting on however they are ott having a waiter come over every 2 min is disturbing also they kept giving the kids lollipops I understand at the end of the meal maybe okay but at the start come on use some common sense do you think kids are going to eat any food if they got sweats in front of them apart from that enjoy the food would be 5 stars however had to reduce it due to waiting staff be annoying. Also ruined the birthday surprise by telling the person a cake is on the way later on I just cancelled it no point ones they knew like I said no common sense.

This place is to be avoided. They serve food that has been sitting at room temperature for an undetermined time. I was sick for 36 hours.

One of the best curry restaurants I have ever been to. The menu is extensive with some real delicacies you won’t see many places. The whole team made us feel welcome and were true masters of hospitality. Special thanks to Haziz for looking after us so well and making the evening really memorable. This restaurant is a real special one and can’t wait to go back when I’m next in Glasgow.

I've always really enjoyed the food here. On my most recent visit the food was up to standard but the drink prices have become ridiculous. £6.50 for a glass of Irn-Bru is a joke.

Food isn’t fresh - wouldn’t return

Being a visitor in UK, I have decided to visit Akbars Glasgow too. Felt welcomed when I entered, ordered Lamb chops, Chicken Nimbali and Chicken Tikka in starters and lamb karahi plus haleem in main course. Also ordered some spicy chips too. In drinks, ordered cocktails. Starters were piping hot and loved the taste of Ch. Nimbali especially. Lamb karahi was upto the mark but haleem needs some improvement. Service was top notch and owner was very warm guy. Will visit them again.

Great food but the rice had an hair so that was disappointing.

Incredible food. Absolutely love the fish starter, probably the main reason I come here. The lamb nahari is out of this world and never disappoints. The massive naans are incredibly filling. The staff are very attentive keeping us plied with drinks and the food comes out fresh and quickly. Best place in Glasgow for authentic Indian food.

The atmosphere and service was good. But quality of food is pretty bad. I am from Birmingham, so know the food pretty well. We ordered ghost with spinach and Rogan josh. Both were sub standard and not recommended. Sorry Akbar's, you need to work on the quality.

Fancy looking place Nice location Good customer service, attentive waiters Off street parking Food - disappointing We ordered 2 naans, palak gosht balti and chicken Rogan josh. It meant to be spicy but it was rather mild , I believe it might be spicy for non-asian customers but if you like your food to have a kick of chilli then ask for double spicy Spinach dish was just okay, not much spinach and didn't feel like balti. The second dish we picked the classic - chicken rogan josh. This was absolutely disappointment. No taste to it whatsoever. Quality as if someone amateur tried to duplicate the dish without even tasting it before. Watery tomato sauce with the cheap quality of meat. It was the (what our local butchers call) tikka meat - cut offs from random chicken parts and tights. You can see on my photo. They sell it cheap for a reason... There is no quality in it, just scraps of meat. Naan was big but very crumbling, didn't hold on the stand and was breaking, falling down if you touched it. It was a disappointing meal unfortunately, the ambience of the place didn't match the quality of the food. I wouldn't go there back again. It is not authentic food for desi people but more targeting local people so probably for them it is something delicious but any random desi family can cook better food than what they serve there. For those who look for a fully halal place this probably is not the best choice as they are serving alcohol, however they do keep separate sittings for non and alcoholic customers so if you don't mind that arrangements then it should work okay.

Came here for my BIRTHDAY dinner with my mother and stepfather. Asked for the food to come altogether but it all came in 5 minute instalments. Served with chips first which left us shocked considering we had also ordered popadoms which is common knowledge to serve first. Food was edible but no way near enjoyable. Asda quality food. Nans we’re alright. Food went cold waiting for everything to come together adding to our disappointment. Missing curry, we ordered a lamb balti but they messed up the order. Waitress arguing with my mother accusing her of ordering sauce instead of the pickle tray when it wasn’t even her that took our order! Most restaurants use a tray for all of the food and I don’t know why they never as I have seen them use before. We ordered seekh kebab and masala fish to start. Seekh kebab was cold and boring. Fish was mushy and looked like something out of a chip shop. Was expecting it to be wrapped in foil like the traditional method. Chicken Karahi was 5/10. None of the food seemed fresh. Wouldn’t be suprised if it was microwaved. Asked them to give the cake back as there was no way I was celebrating my birthday in this place. I came here as this is one of the most popular place for Indian food in Glasgow but it has clearly fallen downhill. I left here kicking myself that I should have went to nandos instead! Very disappointing!

Absolutely delicious food and great service. They have a well priced menu and a good variety to choose from, l would highly recommend. The service is really a standout and the team are very friendly. Their naan on a stand concept it lovely too, don't be decieved... It's absolutely huge and I'm glad we only ordered 2, however if I could I would have had more. Phenomenal all around.

On a business trip to Glasgow, my team and I fancied a Ruby Murray. Having Googled curry in Glasgow the renowned Akbars popped up and having been to the one in Birmingham this was worth a shot. Walked in early on in the evening, the restaurant was somewhat vacant. Sat down on a table next to the window, however the central heating was on. Cooking my legs from the heat, we asked to move tables this was duly accepted. Scanned the menu knew what we wanted and placed our order. Within 5 mins or at least it felt like that, the food had arrived. We ordered a portion of Chapli Kebab, Chicken Kharai, Chicken Balti and a family Naan. We were all stunned by the swiftness of the food arriving, however it came hot. One criticism the Sauces were served rather oddly, 2 in a metal dishes and one in a plastic kebab shop esq bottle. Seemingly odd for a an establishment of this calibre. Now the food, the nan was nice with elements of crispiness. The chicken Kharai which I had was very good, no complaints but the chicken could have been cooked for longer. The Chicken felt like ot had been added onto sauce rather than cooked together. My colleagues enjoyed the balti and were very complimentary of the food. The chapli kebab was dire I'm afraid. Looked like it was fried for a little too long. The beverages we ordered weren't cold enough, they should be served a little colder. Ice just doesn't cut it to be honest. Service was good, sometimes overbearing. Almost felt like I was being watched each time I took a mouthful. Decor and Exterior needs a bit of TLC, looks a little run down. Some investment needed to bring it up to standard. Overall decent place for a curry if your in the area. 7/10

Very average food at decent prices. The hanging naan bread is just a gimmick and doesn’t have the taste or texture of a top notch one; where are the crispy bits? Curries had no depth of flavour and what’s with the plastic plates. Would not recommend.

Finally took the plunge to go akbars afew months back, always heard mixed reviews. I ordered chicken tikka for starters and lamb karahi (curry) and few chapatis as my main. As my friend ordered the muttar paneer(curry) with a few chapatis. The chicken starters were really tender, soft and juicy, nice portion of salad and sauces to go with it. The lamb karahi was really spicey and juicy and tender aswell and full of flavour really enjoyed that. Also tried the muttar paneer it was okay but not really for me, but my friend absolutely loved it. Couldnt finish the curries off, so politely asked the staff members to get the leftovers packed which they happily obliged. Had some karak chai afterwards, it was okay abit on the sour side. Overall the staff were really friendly and provided great customer service and food was great. Cost overall around 40 pounds, abit pricey but the dining experience was good and would definitely go again.

always good for nice authentic food

Whilst in Glasgow for work we dined at Akbar's, Hafiz took our dining experience to the next level! His recommendation of Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Nambhali left us licking our plates clean — they were that good! And let's talk about the family giant naan he suggested. We tried to conquer it like brave warriors facing a delicious beast, but alas, it was a battle we couldn't win! We ordered charsi lamb karahi thinking it'll takes us to higher places but alas the ingredients were all legal so we were high on the delicious food...not disappointed!! Hafiz's service and witty charm made the meal not just enjoyable, but downright memorable. We'll definitely be back, armed with bigger appetites and maybe some backup for that naan!

Food ok, not much atmosphere. Worth a try.

My partner and I like to travel and try new food places ase love food. Akbar's sounded promising with winning curry awards. My partner and I arrived at 6:45, we were asked to take a seat while they arrange a table which was 15 minutes. We sat down and ordered our meal. As we were ordering, our waiter told us that its Ramadan and that people doing Ramadan are getting served first. By this point I was confused because (a). Why did she assume that (we) weren't fasting. We waited 45 minutes to have our starters, then our main course plates were brought out warm just to sit on the table for 20 minutes before our main course finally came out, we were then surprised that no rice or chips came with the meal but by this time we were starving and getting hangry and didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for rice to be prepaired. there was a gentleman with his partner and child who had sat down after us. Within 20 minutes their food was on the table whilst we waited 1.5 hours to be served started and main course. I understand people are on Ramadan but if I have booked a table and prepared to spend good money in a restaurant I want to be treated like everyone else in that restaurant and not be segregated because of my skin colour or religion. They even had chefs out delivering food at one point which also delayes cooking time. Our waiter came to our table 3 times in the 2.5 hours that we were their and 2 of the times was because I called her over to ask what was happening with the food. This has been one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in a very long time. I think management need address some issues. Food was okay not as good as I would have hoped to be honest I have had better from takeaways. The bill came to £63 for both me and my partner. That was for 2x individual curries ( without ) rice, 2x starters, 3x chapatis, 1 bottle of 7up and 2x pepsi. I would have definitely expected a rice and atleast some sort of complementary item to apologise for the weight. Disappointing overall. Overall I give 3 stars as the restaurant itself is very well done.

Visited Akbars today on arrival for Iftar. Waited up 20 minutes for a table, in the meantime the staff provided us with fruit and dates to open our fasts. The wait was worth it. Delicious lamb chops.

One of the few best halal restaurants I've been to so far. We generally like our meals spicy and they never faulted on that, was really good! Highly recommend!

We ordered Lamb Biryani and Tikka Masala but believe me no taste. Lamb biryani was not even cooked properly. Anyway waste of money

Went there to celebrate my friends birthday. Big mistake. Food was terrible 😕 and overpriced. Would never go back so be warned. And if the manager wants to speak to me I'll be more than happy to explain the terrible night I and my friend had.
