Great place to meet up !
All had breakfast rolls or light lunch and ice creams / sundaes. Plenty of choice and a good price. The play park was perfect for the kids. Definitely be back.
Had a meal in the restaurant, very impressed, great quality food, portions, freshly cooked, piping hot, great all round. Nice service. Highly recommend.
A wonderful ice cream parlour with great coffee and home baking. The ice cream flavours available are amazing.
The home made cakes cater for allergy intolerances.
Worth trying out some of the tropical and asian flavours.
This cafe is now under new ownership and is called THE KNOWES. It is open from 9:30 until 4 (3 on a Sunday).
It has been under new ownership since February this year and has had a lick of paint and a fresh menu - albeit broadly similar to the old one.
Having visited the cafe several times on visits to Kelso over the last few years, it remains my favourite venue to get a hot drink and a simple meal. The premises are kept very clean and presentable.

So much nicer in the restaurant now they have done it up! Very impressed, the restaurant is lovely and modern, looks much more like a hotel restaurant. The food was a little on the pricey side, but not overly so, the food is definitely more aesthetically appealing and much better quality! The Balmoral chicken was fantastic.
This is the first time I've written a scathing review.
We were staying a weekend at one of Errichel's self catering properties with our children and grandchildren. We were celebrating a 70th birthday and it was also Mothers Day, so the family were treating us to lunch.
I have to be careful with what I eat, and was drawn to the avocado and feta dish on the menu. On ordering I had requested a slice of sourdough instead of granary, for digestive reasons, and for a poached egg instead of feta. Perfectly reasonable requests, and smashed avocado with a poached egg is a particular favourite of mine. It's simple food and I was looking forward to a light and pleasant lunch.
Now, when someone is described as a chef patron, one images that they take pride in their work and are competent in offering guests an enjoyable and delicious experience.
Errichel disproved that completely.
The plate that was put in front of me was disgusting. A plate of food should first and foremost be well presented, make you savour the moment and entice you to enjoy it. This plate was none of those things. It was horrible. Had the family not been present it would have gone back to the kitchen, but I wasn't going to upset the young grandchildren. My husband , sitting next to me, quietly commented on it to me. I'd ordered the same dish a few months earlier at a birthday lunch somewhere else. It had looked amazing, and was so appetizing, beautifully presented perfection. But that was The Orange Tree.
At Errichel, the chef patron had replaced the one slice of sourdough with two pre-sliced bits of supermarket bread randomly smeared with something red, and had laid thin slices of greeny grey sludgy stuff on them. I think it was avocado, though it wasn't that lovely vibrant green and certainly wasn't smashed , neither was it seasoned. There were two poached eggs, and a heap of sad, wilted rocket on the side.
In fairness the poached eggs were fine and tasted good. I made an attempt to eat the tasteless grey avocado but I have never been so offended by a plate of food. It was vile.
Why not make a fuss about it at the time? Our grandchildren are 3, 4 and 5 years old, they were having fun together and I wasn't about to spoil that for them or their parents. One positive thing was that their food was served first. However, one of the grown -ups meal failed to arrive with the others, so we had to ask for it. Disappointing.
I'm left wondering why chef patron doesn't care about the impact his poor attitude has.
Good, simple food, well prepared and presented is a delight for the customer, and should be a source of pride for the one doing it. Why do it otherwise?
Always assured of a great welcome from a young staff. Very hard working and a smile always. Food great and great coffee. Had bacon roll - bacon extremely crispy which is lovely.
We happened upon this place for breakfast and went back the next day again it was that good! Hands down the best cappuccino and the quality of food was far above expectations in a cafe! Absolutely incredible! The staff were friendly and kind, highly recommend!
We stumbled in without a reservation on a busy Sunday morning. The staff accommodated us without a fuss.
Delicious, well-prepared, contemporary take on a traditional Scottish breakfast. Pastries to die for. Very good coffee. And the freshly baked whole grain bread with the poppy seed crust...oh my.
Bright, cozy atmosphere inside. Attentive staff. If we lived in Edinburgh, it would be our go-to bakery and breakfast place.
