We happened upon this place for breakfast and went back the next day again it was that good! Hands down the best cappuccino and the quality of food was far above expectations in a cafe! Absolutely incredible! The staff were friendly and kind, highly recommend!

Visited for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Our first visit to the Red Kite, but won’t be our last. I chose the veggie breakfast, which was great, especially the veggie haggis. My daughter had the shakshuka, which she declared delicious (the garlicky dip on the side was a-maz-ing!) . The brioche rolls accompanying both dishes were an unexpected pleasure. Eclectic decor, friendly staff and interesting clientele all added to our visit.

We were in Edinburgh for a family wedding. We found this cafe on the first day of our stay and seven of us ate breakfast and had coffee and cake there every day of a three day stay. The food was absolutely fantastic, so much better than a cafe - more like an expensive restaurant. We virtually moved in! I wish this cafe was local to where I live, I'd eat there every day. Food great, vibe really good and relaxed, staff were super nice and very efficient. Cakes were incredible too and the best coffee I've had in ages. You are very lucky Edinburgh to have the Red Kite cafe on your doorstep! Recommend highly!

I ordered the same breakfast every morning for a few days ( because it was amazing ) and each day it was a different amount. I understand, I had a meal with a substitution so price may not be set, but on the last price jumped up 40% higher. I stated what I had been paying and received a curt answer, this woman who was the manager or owner was not willing to listen. So I payed for a portion of food I did not recieve. Others have received this same treatment at Red Kite. The food in incredible, so it the wait staff, the scones are additive. I only order take away now, no substitutions and when the price changes I show them receipts from the same order days before, which I resent having to do.

Visited the cafe with my two daughters, one will be staying on to study abroad at UOE. My first time in Scotland & did not not know what to expect food wise. The Red Kite did not disappoint. There was a small wait as the place was busy. We were there on a Sunday mid morning & had an excellent brunch. We chose the first 3 items on the menu. My daughter had vegan selection, with veggie Haggis. Other daughter had overnight oats. Lovely with broiled apricots. I had a hearty dish of eggs, sausage, bacon & baked beans & toast. Great coffee as well: lattes all around. A wonderful start to our busy day of sightseeing, as we were headed to Holyrood. I highly recommend the place. Service with a smile & clean facilities.

Went here for breakfast each morning during our recent trip to Edinburgh - Fantastic independent café on Cadzow Place. The staff are really friendly, and it has a really warm atmosphere, with locals, students and tourists all obviously enjoying its great menu, teas, coffees and cakes. The breakfast brioche buns are excellent as are the savoury scones, and the menu is full of interesting and tasty breakfast/brunch ideas Back in London now and missing my Flat White and Bacon & Egg Brioche bun, will have to revisit soon.

Stopped here for breakfast on our last morning in Edinburgh. Nice airy and light space to eat in with local artists displaying on the walls. Food looked and tasted delicious as did the tea and coffee. We appreciated the attention to detail all round. My roasted pear on whipped feta was very tasty and would highly recommend for a treat. The loose leaf tea was the best we tasted in Edinburgh. We took away savoury and sweet scones and a sausage roll for our journey, all of which were full of flavour too. Wish this place was on our doorstep, lucky locals!

The best thing about this place is the space. The room is large, with a variety of seating, from stools at the window to communal tables to separate ones. Interesting mixed crowd. You can see it is a popular local spot. The coffee is just OK, but certainly not great as some write. The food is also just OK. The polenta cake breakfast dish is light-handed, with lots of vegetables (red cabbage, tomato, pico de gallo...). It just seems a little expensive to me for the very basic thing it is - for nine pounds you can find far more interesting (and also more filling) dishes in town. Service was friendly and efficient, by dynamic young guys.

I am new to this area and live locally to Red Kite Cafe. I absolutely adore their homemade cakes -- the blondie and the lovely lemon/blueberry/coconut sponge being my favourites. I am hoping to have the sponge cake baked for my birthday this year :) I just visited for a late lunch and asked for Smoked Salmon instead of Feta on my avocado toast. The portion was great and the side salad was delicious! I love what they dressed that with. It is a little on the expensive side but it is worth it as the quality of ingredients is great and most are locally sourced. My only complaint is that the cafe can be a little cold inside at times.

I go there for morning coffee every Tuesday along with other middle-aged lady members of a Pilates class. The Red Kite staff are lovely - and we're hugely impressed that they always seem to remember who drinks which kind of coffee. The (enormous) delicious scones offer a range of flavours which changes every week- many of them involving fruit or vegetables or nuts, so that you can easily convince yourself they are positively essential to a healthy diet!! The cafe is sometimes very noisy - large groups of tourists or families with babies. A nice little touch are the wild flowers in jam jars on the tables.

I have been to The Red Kite quite a few times and have always really enjoyed it! The food is always super, the atmosphere is lovely and the staff are usually really on the ball. Today however, after raving about how good this place was, I and a friend went for a late lunch and sadly didn't have the best experience. She ordered baked eggs and I ordered a cheesey scone. My scone arrived fairly quickly, and so we waited for the baked eggs. We waited. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. Then after at least half an hour, and after seeing other tables that arrived after us get their food, we said to one of the waitresses we were missing the baked eggs, and she went to go check on them. Then after another 10 minutes or so they arrived, by which point my scone was cold and we felt pretty disappointed by the whole thing! It's such a shame because the food is so lovely, and my friend's order had obviously been forgotten. When I said to someone at the counter that we had had to wait over half an hour for them, the staff brushed me off and said the cafe had been really busy that day. All I wanted was for someone to apologise, but I ended up feeling embarrassed because the experience hadn't lived up to my recommendation, and no-one took our issue seriously.

I slowly ate my fry-up and sipped on a lovely latte in the window seat, watching the world go by. It’s not cheap but the service was friendly and they didn’t complain about me staying for a couple of hours. The food was decent, if not exceptional. I would return.

I don’t often write reviews but felt I had to comment on my visit to this cafe. I popped in for a coffee and also chose an oat and raisin scone. When the scone arrived I was delighted to find that it had been warmed through and served with butter and home made jam. It was absolutely delicious and well worth the price. I eat a lot of scones and this was the best one I have ever had. Will definitely find an excuse to be back!

A gorgeous light airy space with lovely decor & friendly staff. They always have an amazing selection of food and their coffee is excellent. This is my favourite cafe to visit when i'm in Edinburgh.

This is my local coffee shop and it is fantastic. The owners and staff are fantastic and friendly and the food is fresh and interesting. Great tea and coffee. Wifi is brilliant and the atmosphere is fantastic for all forms of cafe hedonism.

Just ate a delicious brunch at the Red Kite this morning. There is a great selection, especially if you like really good food that's interesting and uses quality ingredients - also lots of vegetarian options, which are very welcome!

Lovely staff, great taste in food and beautiful coffee. I was brought a glass of water when I sat down. Drank that straight as I was super tasty after a walk. The next thing my coffee is coming with another glass of water. The waitress says “this is just in case you would like more water”. And that’s what I call exceptional customer service - it’s the little things that make a difference. Thank you :)

This is a place with a lovely vibe and set up and great coffee but personally I found the food average and when I asked for my eggs poached, was told that they don't so them. Shame as the set up and staff are lovely and it's an ok place but with a few tweaks could be amazing.

Imaginative dishes, snacks and cakes. The cakes are beautiful and the ingredients are top notch in the main dishes (superb tomatoes, mushrooms and in-house baked beans). It looks as if the selection changes every day. A welcoming place with a relaxed atmosphere, but just a bit clattery and with loud blasts from the coffee machine.

The tiny cafe at the back of the chocolate shop makes a lovely range of hot chocolates!

Great music, great cider, the food is as good as vegan food gets if you are into it and still very good if you're not. Nice people

Pretty good. Very friendly staff and a nice shop connected to it where you can get fresh fruit and veg. Plenty of options including vegan. Nice options for small children too.

A traditional friendly bar. Good choice of beers, spirits and wine. The bar staff are lovely people and make you feel welcome, the locals are friendly too. Enjoyed spending time in there.
