The tiny cafe at the back of the chocolate shop makes a lovely range of hot chocolates!

The hot chocolates and shakes have a nice pure chocolate flavour and if your a fan of lesser sweetness these drinks will appeal to you.

I am in love with the Hotel Chocolate in Glasgow, on Buchanan Street. It is my place of power. I drink a lot of coffee there and eat a lot of cakes and ice cream. The staff already recognise me))) But I'll never go to their Edinburgh location near Scott Monument again. It's very cold, drafty, cramped, uncomfortable... The tables are covered with something similar to metal, like in a cheap diner. And the room itself is long and narrow, like a corridor. I am very disappointed

Got a chance to taste their velvetised milkshake - I had the 75% chocolate milkshake. I did ask for the cocoa whip but no luck the whipping machine was out or something. Anyway the shake was good enough with rich chocolatey flavour. Prices are alright and if you have a VIP card like me, its further cheap. The cafe is really small with less than 10 or 12 seatings yet its cute and well managed. Will definitely go back again for their mango-raspberry sundae🍦 NB : also, another plus point to keep in mind is to take their loyalty card aka Hotel Chocolat VIP membership card, which is totally free of cost and gives you discount on almost everything the shop offers. That is an amazing deal, so go get yourself one !

Ice cream is very ordinary and expensive

A very cozy place. Earthy smell and beautiful interior. It's nice to buy from all kinds of strollers here. There are many varieties. Chocolate 85% on 100%. Nice packaging, great for a gift.

I love this chocolate shop. I came here with my mum on Mother's Day and had an excellent salted caramel hot chocolate. The staff are very friendly and accommodating to my mother, who has a disability.

Hot chocolate is amazing worth going in for

A small and bustling branch of the shop but I’ve never had to wait long and they have the full range in stock whatever the season.

I went here to grab their famous hot chocolate, but they offered without chocolate cream on top and the taste wasn’t good at all. The worst thing was the extremely rude staff.

Excellent choco! Make sure you get there before 5:30 as their opening times for the cafe are different than advertised.

Unfortunately I would not return here again. I came to have some hot chocolate with my friends and the service was terrible. The blonde girl who served us was rude, the hot chocolate looked like plain milk and my friend was sick afterwards. I also didn't like the fact that beyond the hot drinks, the selection of sweets at the counter was very limited, and the absence of music made the atmosphere unpleasant. The location is very small and I could hear the conversations of my neighbors at the table.

Clean and tidy store. Lots of different options yo choose from, like boxes of chocolates or just chocolate bars. They do have some Halloween chocolates. There is a cafe in there too. Nice staff.

I just love Hotel Chocolate. Just got a Hazelnut Hot Chocolate and it’s delicious. I don’t know how they make that yummy cream they put on top but it’s amazing. I also love the selection of chocolate you get here. The staff are so friendly and helpful.

Haughty, unfriendly, and unprofessional customer service. At the prices they charge for their products, you would expect better.

Ice cream machine was being cleaned so couldn’t order choc shake but the hot chocolate was nice

WARNING ALERT. make sure you get there at least 30 minutes before closing if you want a cold iced drink. Staff switch off Milkshake machine for cleaning . Probably not their fault but Top Management should address this issue.

We popped in as we were passing. There were three young woman behind the tills and two other customers. We knew what we wanted so I picked up my item and went to the till. One of the woman started to serve me. One of the other customers then asked if there was a store in London which provoked a conversation between that customer and all the staff leaving me to decide to wait for it to finish or leave without my purchase. That customer then left without making any purchase and I completed mine. It’s fair to say my wife delivered feedback to the staff but I’m not sure it was understood by them where their failure lay. I write this because only the day before we suffered poor service from young front of house staff elsewhere and it’s becoming a bit of a common theme suggesting no one is giving them sufficient training or they are being deliberately rude

Ice cream of the Gods: creamy with hints of cacao. The 70% iced choc shakes is heavenly and not overwhelmingly sweet, topped with soft and fluffy choc whipped cream.

Stumbled across hotel chocolate shop in Edinburgh. Two hot chocolates later we were in bliss. So delicious. The chocolates are to die for.

I was served by the lovely Lisa today 11am Thursday 14th April She was truly amazing and a real asset to Hotel chocolat I could go into great detail to let you know what she did for me, suffice it to say that she made me feel wonderful in a dreadful situation. Thank you so much Lisa.

The lady at the till spilled our hot chocolates on the tray and acted like nothing happened, not even offering to clean up. Besides, she got our order wrong and instead of fixing it she argued back, backed by her manager, saying it was impossible that they made a mistake due to how the till works. They offered to honour the request as an exception because we "have to be careful when ordering", but argued that they were out of coconut milk or cocoa whip (not sure which) for one of the two chocolates that they mixed up. Terrible service overall and not up to the usual hotel chocolat standard

If I had a chance to give less than a star, I would! Whenever I pass by this shop in Edinburgh, Frederick street, I always have hot chocolate by knowing the fact that the lady who makes hot chocolate is extremely rude. But couple of days ago something unbelievable happened. That lady was talking to the other lady at the till and I was going to order something. Waited until she noticed me standing in front of the counter then I raised my hand to show her that I was going to order something. She ROLLED HER EYES!! Seriously, you have one job to do.. PS: hot chocolate is really good, but unfortunately it is overshadowed by the terrible service

Very nice place, shop in the front and cafe in the back, they have a signature hot chocolate with chocolate cream and there are a huge selection of chocolates.

The food of the gods ice cream is absolutely amazing as is the dark chocolate hot chocolate. Not many seats but we must have timed it well. Staff friendly

Excellent experience and very helpful staff. I can't remember the name of the person serving myself (I think may have been Agi?) had excellent service and even gave me an extra beverage for free when the last customer changed her mind and walked out. Very good experience and would very highly recommend, definitrly coming back.

We entered the shop and were greeted by the sweet aroma of Blood Orange Supermilk Hot Chocolate. Upon ordering, the barista Harvey quickly, and efficiently, whipped up our drinks in a stylish fashion. She also gave us extra napkins. And a spoon. And added us to their VIP me subscription! 20% off! Wowza!

Yuck! The hot chocolate tasted stale and awful. Not sure if the barista just doesn't know how to make it (she got our order wrong also) or if they are selling old chocolate. Not to be repeated!

Best customer experience in many years. Lynn the Manager was running the busy cafe and making sure tables and seats were cleaned in between customers. All this while making orders and being really friendly.

Nice chocolatier that reminded me of the standards of the traditional swiss chocolatier. Chocolate is good but lacks a bit of unusual tastes

My favourite Hotel Chocolat. This is a lovely old building which has a real ambiance. Lynn and the team run a fantastic store and are incredibly friendly and helpful. They are a credit to a fantastic company selling fantastic products.

On 13th May, my wife and I visited to this cafe at Hotel Chocolate. It was very comfortable cafe. And the Hot Cocoa was very good. And all staffs were very friendly and very kind. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

I didn't get my parcel and who knows when and if I am getting my refund:( I will never use their delivery services again and I do not recommend them, too much struggling:((

I Took a special trip into Edinburgh to buy chocolates and drinking chocolate from this store. After searching for a while for their drinking chocolate and being ignored by the 2 sales assistants I eventually caught the attention of one assistant who had just served someone in the cafe. I asked her where was the drinking chocolate to buy and make at home. She pointed to an empty shelf with about 6 products on it containing mint hot chocolate and said that’s what we have there. I asked if they had normal drinking chocolate. She was shouting at this point and said, “What do you mean Normal” do you mean the 70% chocolate? Everything we have is there and pointed to the shelf again. I was extremely embarrassed as everyone in the store was looking at us obviously wondering why this loud mouthed assistant was shouting. I replied, so the answer is no then. I then started to walk away from her to remove myself from this extreme reaction to a simple question and she started shouting at me as I walked towards another shelf. “I’ve been off for two days and I don’t know what stock we have on the shelf, “ she screamed. At this point I carried on walking right out the door. I hope management read this review. I hope management do something to prevent this sales assistant from ruining someone else’s shopping experience. Re training is definitely required with a lesson in how not to talk to customers. My advice... buy online.

As always the staff in this store make it a joy to visit the store. Needed something special, and the assistant found me something perfect to say thanks to my last student placement site.

The store itself is great but I went in to use its cafe at the back. I have been here a couple of times and the drinks can be inconsistent depending on which staff member makes them. There were issues with the card machines but the staff felt with it well and a solution was quickly found. Only other negative was that there were only two staff on and only one of them was trained to make the drinks in the cafe.... And she was out the back, leading to a longer wait, again, not the end of the world but like the inconsistencies in the drinks this could be solved with more thorough training.

Hot chocolate to die for with cocoa whipped cream!!!! Scrumptious and yummy beyond belief. Will visit everytime we’re in Edinburgh. Definitely a must

Pure heaven. The cafe is amazing and you must try it! They come out with different flavour hot chocolate for different seasons but my overall favourite is the salted caramel hot chocolate with the whip. It’s very indulgent but the best hot chocolate you’ll ever have!
