Lovely produce, very tasty breakfast rolls cooked to order. Delicious!

I'm still thinking about the ham and cheese toastie that I had here several days ago. They have a nice selection of packaged foods and a full espresso menu, too.

Brilliant selection of treats and lovely and welcoming service. Highly recommend.

Okay. Bit pricey. Much better options for similar offerings around the area. Bible quote in the window a bit unnecessary for me to. The Religious ideology of the proprietor should be irrelevant.

Brilliant service from Mary who has been a true north star for our community during lockdown! Delicious homemade bread, cakes and a great range of deli foods.

I'm writing this review while sitting outside the cafe, still chewing on a delicious filled roll and sipping on some tasty raspberry lemonade. Homebakes, fresh rolls, bread, beautiful jams, fresh eggs, fresh food, wonderful! This was a lovely little hole in the wall with gorgeous products, delicious food, and wonderful staff. Definitely pop by for one of their sandwiches. You won't be disappointed!

Mary( the owner) has stayed open throughout the current Covid crisis as allowed by Government. This has been a godsend to people like me who enjoy a morning coffee in convivial surroundings with lovely people. The cafe also serves as a deli and at the moment it has fresh Scottish raspberries which Mary picks up from the farm in Perthshire. It is important we now support her as she has supported us. Currently she only operates as a shop and takeaway which I believe is eminently sensible given we don’t know what the current crisis may bring. The cafe is open five days a week; closed Sunday and Monday.

Always welcome and an ever growing menu of tasty deli bits and breads fresh from local a baker. Strawberrys are particularly good ... local of course. You can lunch n brunch here also.. so bring your tummyl

Fantastic cafe serving great breakfasts and lovely coffee. Also a great selection of home baked foods and some exceptionally good deli offerings. Often quite busy so best to pop in if passing when quiet but wonderful service - a must visit when in the area!

Cafe Montagu always was a friendly small cafe with yummy cakes and good coffee. It has diversified and now sells artisan bread, cheese, salami and lots of other deli items. This is what this area (Goldenacre) was sadly lacking.

I just recently got a job just along the road from this cafe. I come here for lunch sometimes and I've never been let down on the quality. The staff are extremely polite and happy to help and the food is amazing at a decent prices. If you get a chance to go get the apple pie!

Great cafe and now deli. Fresh scones everyday and the best around. The deli is new and fantastic value. Fresh bread and meats and other great choices. Highly recommend a try.

Great service. Coffee and roll great

Had to wait over 25 minutes for take out food. Didn't have the soup advertised, although I was offered an alternative. Asked for a sandwich and was disappointed when I got to eat it It was actually a roll. I hadn't been informed of this at any time. Only two other people in the shop so I couldn't believe the wait

This is a very cosy cafe with very friendly, efficient staff who serve a wide range of homemade sweets and savouries. Their soup of the day was delicious Their sweet and savoury scones are to be recommended as also the toasties and rolls and cakes an imperial biscuits. As a plus there is space for children's books and the sale of homemade chutney and jams. If you are near the Botanic Garden or just in the area of Inverleith drop by for a refreshing coffee or tea and definitely something to eat. This cafe has many regular customers which just shows what high quality and good value the Montague Cafe offers.

Wonderful cakes & scones. Full Scottish breakfast good too. Will also make birthday etc cakes to order. Raspberry jam is wonderful.

Just popped in for a quick coffee Break .The place seems really nice and cosy, staff members are welcoming and friendly , Android pay and contactless payment is supported here which could be a big deal since most ppl now days don't carry cash including my self . Outdoor seating is available to those who like to have their coffee outside and enjoy the sunshine :) Overall , it's a lovely wee cafe with great selection of tea , coffee and home made fresh pastries. Would definitely come back

My favourite place to visit at Goldenacre for a pot of tea and great selection of scones (with butter and home made jam). The background music gentle and not intrusive with Nary and her staff always welcoming. Excellent value for money and good menu selection, but go early for the still warm scones. Yesterday’s selection were cherry, raspberry, fruit, plain or cheese - yum!

We stopped by the Cafe Montagu when we realised we had arrived at the botanical gardens too early! We were warmly welcomed by the lady serving and I have to say I had such a delicious coffee that my husband, who doesn't drink coffee and hates the taste, tried a bit of it and didn't dislike it! There were lots of lovely cakes on display too, however sadly we didn't get to try any. A very chilled out and welcoming cafe!

Happened across this humble café whilst exploring the area. Nice and bright with a choice of seating. Good choice on the food and drink menu. We enjoyed hot filled rolls made to order with some fresh-made soup, we then had tea and cakes. I would go back if I’m the area and if you like homemade style produce and friendly service this is a good place to go.

Probably this place would need a refresh, or is the way it is that gives a touch of old and familiar cosy place. Staff is super friendly and welcoming. The only thing I didn't like it was the espresso. I like the taste of pure coffee. black, no sugar, no milk as a proper italian way. My wife cappuccino was good and so the cake. Very recommended if u don't take espresso.

Nice place for a tea or a snack

I didn't eat so my review is solely based on the coffee! After a lot of searching and asking around, I have finally found, what I consider to be, the best coffee in Edinburgh. For those of you who have experienced the epic Australian & New Zealand coffee scene and are now here in Edinburgh- head to cafe Montagu- you'll know what I mean. Beautiful fresh coffee, lovely friendly staff and the cabinet food (although I didn't have anything) looked delicious! Very reasonably priced and a clean cafe too. Well worth checking out!

We had breakfast here again this morning and the food and service is still as good as ever. My husband's regular favourite is the power breakfast, and I tried the vegetarian fried breakfast today which was very tasty and perfectly cooked. Coffee is always excellent. Good value for money.

Delicious and adorable. Fab selection of made in house treats and savory soups and sandwiches. Cute friendly and affordable our raspberry scone and earl grey tea were delightful. And the staff are so friendly and nice. Wish we lived closer. Might have to pick up a snack for our flight out of Edinburgh.

Really nice little cafe. The food was delicious and a really nice selection of tea pigs tea.

Visited today with two children (my friends children) and one of them had an accident.....trapped fingers in door. The staff were great, looked after her and gave boy the kids an extra lollipop. The cakes we had already bought and eaten were fabulous. Would definitely visit again. Thanks.

I was passing the other day with some work colleagues and we were looking for a lunch spot, so we dropped in. Very friendly service and tasty food (we all had the cooked "breakfast" option). My only complaint was the size of the portions. We were all starving and they maybe weren't as big as we had hoped at the price. Nice place though.

I always think that simple things done well make the best customer experiences and so it is at Cafe Montagu. Their welcoming team do good quality tea, coffee, cakes, scones and rolls in a comfy cafe. I'd go every day if my waistline could stand it(!)

I met a friend for coffee and delicious homemade scones. We sat for ages chatting and were never made to feel we should be ordering more food. Nice paintings on the walls too.

A brilliant small cafe very close to the Botanic Gardens. We visited for lunch on Saturday and there was only one table available at the time which was a good sign, the waitress was most helpful and saw us to a seat. There was a lovely homely atmosphere, everything is made fresh and the selection was good. There was a good choice of home baking available, a variety of scones, cakes and tray bakes. A great small local cafe with a welcome for everyone, recommend a visit.

If you are in the Inverleith area, visiting the Botanics etc, take the time to pop into Cafe Montagu on Montagu Terrace. They do all kinds of lunch- soup, toasted etc, but their scones are baked there by them and are really delicious. Personally I like the Rasberry or fruit versions, but Cheese, Cherry, plain are all there. Relaxing and peaceful atmosphere to go with your scone and outside seating in the summer.

I've been a few times to Cafe Montagu and the food is always good - I love the bacon, brie and cranberry panini! Recently tried the new salads and they were lovely too!

Been a couple of times recently. Whilst it's clean and tidy the service is so slow. Only have an hour for lunch and 2 colleagues and I had sandwiches and coffee and took whole hour. Another occasion went for takeaway panini and waited 20 minutes and there were only 2 tables occupied. There are a number of other places locally so really need to look at delivery and speed of service. Be helpful to put prices on noticeboard for those who want food to take away. Almost £6 for panini and can of diet coke is steep!

The cafe has a very nice, relaxed atmosphere and my latte was very good. The raspberry and chocolate brownie was delicious.

Always nice choice of goodies and funky flavoured teas. My favourite is raspberry scone and chocolate mint tea, nom nom :)

Go here frequently with the family, it's very child friendly. The coffee is good and the staff and owner always very friendly. Savoury food options a bit limited but the cakes are hard to resist! Scones always fresh that day which is great.

Great little café - very fresh, bright, and clean inside. Particularly like the window seats where you can sit and watch the world go by.

I was attracted in because of a board outside telling of 'Home baked scones'.

My friend and I went for lunch today at Cafe Montagu, but I am afraid neither of us will ever be back. We sat next to the display fridge, where the cakes and pastries are displayed and noticed right away that it was dirty, in need of a good clean 'a spray of dettol' my friend commented. We ordered our food and when the drinks arrived my white tea cup was chipped and again looked like it could do with a good clean. I ordered breakfast rolls and have no complaints, however my friend had a coronation chicken wrap and discovered it was moldly. Horrible green spores. There was no argument from our waitress, who disposed of it, but there was no real apology. She did offer him another, but he was unable to face this. At the till she charged me for my food, drink and for my companion's coffee 'of course I wont be charging for the wrap' she offered. I felt she shouldn't be charging us at all! I would never go back and have spoken to several friends in the area who use the cafe (who say this has put them off) There can be no excuse for non-cleanliness. None!

It's my local cafe and great for breakfast rolls, soup and sandwiches. Recommended.

Great little café , serves great homemade baking. Lemon bakewell tart especially good. The soup was piping hot, and delicious. Friendly and quick service but no hurry to leave.

The Artisan coffee tasted like it came out of a jar. Nice clean place, pleasant enough service but nothing to write home about. How about some Irish coffees?

Super service and lovely food. Small but welcoming with a fantastic kids play room through the back equipped with toys, books and giant bean bags. Not a lot of space for prams but do have good baby changing facilities!
