We ate in the restaurant last night and I think it is testament to The Homestead and the wonderful meal we had that we are all still talking about it tonight! It was my belated birthday meal with my husband, our two children and their partners so we were thrilled Cecily was able to fit us in after a cancellation. We sat in the bar area which we all agreed was so cosy, very comfortable and charming. The furnishings, art work, and decor all added to the ambiance. The staff were brilliant, so friendly, welcoming and extremely knowledgeable of the menu and food they served us. The food, beautifully presented from the amuse-bouche all the way through to the delicious Whitby salt chocolate truffles was unequivocally delicious. At one point I looked around the table and we were all swapping food wanting each other to try our fantastic dishes cooked to perfection by Pete and his team. Being a non drinker I was delighted with the wonderful variety of non alcoholic “grown up” drinks. So nice not to be fobbed off with an orange juice or coke! The drinkers within the party were very impressed with the wines, cocktails and digestifs and the staff’s knowledge of them all. We thoroughly enjoyed a truly lovely evening at The Homestead Kitchen and will most definitely return. Ps we loved the little map we were given of the kitchen garden, so interesting and a really thoughtful extra.

We are staying in Goathland at a different hotel but this was the only place we could find offering a Sunday Roast is the evening menu. After a days walking a Roast was definitely necessary, if not essential. Walked in and thought we had entered a low cost carvery. First looks and all that. But the roast was simply superb. Extra gravy and veg were delivered without need big to ask. The condiments were also provided within a minute of being requested. So top food and top service and we were delighted. Will come back as the menu offered other great dishes and they only specials to boot.

I'm writing this review so that people understand there is not a cafe or pub tea/beer garden here. It's an open area with a few tables & brollies over and a small covered area for rescue from the elements, & snacks only are served from the stalls. The options are limited, but the food is lovely, though not inexpensive. There's a little kids play area & the waterfall is nearby the house. Public toilets are 2 small wooden shacks with no windows in the gaps, but they are spotless. T.paper, soap, sanitiser is all provided at the little sink in the middle. It's a stunning stunning area at the bottom of a steep bank & there are various forestry walk options nearby. On the day it turned really cold and poured down, so several people were caught out. There are places which wont be easy for those with mobility issues. Keep tight hold of your dogs & children as the walkway is not fenced in & theres a heck of a drop ... its a fab and au naturelle adventure ramble through the woods. Just be prepared more than we were. We thought we could go for a nice walk and then have a nice lunch after, but no that's not the case. Parking is also very limited. It was really busy early on. A few ignoramouses even parked in the passing places, selfish idiots as usual . But in nice weather it would be a proper little sun trap & there is loads of wildlife and birds to spot. the lucky owners of the house there are in a very secluded spot in a beautiful area and have almost become fruitful forest guardians.

Lovely fresh fish and chips served by friendly attentive staff. We travel quite some distance to come here for food. Good that they also have skate and plaice available, as well as crab salad. Closed in Mondays, which is a shame, but they need a day off! Car park is fairly small but there's free parking nearby. Disabled access through the takeaway door. Most tables are in the nice and light conservatory. Seating is basic but very comfy. Easy to accommodate a wheelchair. Also worth visiting the antiques centre across the road while you're there.

Lovely woodland location, very polite and helpful staff, and yummy food. My partner also enjoyed his cask ale. We parked out the back for the night in the camper in exchange for buying food. Top deal, would stay again.

Two friends and I visited Mallyan Spout for an afternoon tea, (£50 for two, £28 for one). From entering to leaving we couldn’t have had a more perfect afternoon. Surroundings were beautiful, the staff were attentive, highly trained and very friendly and the afternoon tea was gorgeous!!! Three different types of sandwiches, sausage roll, four different cakes plus a scone with jam and cream, massive pot of tea. Extremely good value for money. Highly recommended.

Not happy!! We come up here every year to visit where my husband's family scattered his Mum's ashes. This year, the normal trail we used was blocked by trees. We found a path around. Then we went to go to the station tea room for a bacon butty and cuppa. NOT happening. NO hot food and NO hot drink. And to top it off, the toilets were locked and we had to walk down the street to use the other toilets!!! Since when did this change? This weekend was supposed to be gorgeous and warm, why are your toilets at the station locked and the tea room not operating as it's supposed to!!??

We visited for dinner when staying on the nearby Egton Estate and had a fantastic evening! The pub is beautifully and uniquely decorated. We had mushrooms and goats cheese for starter - the goats cheese is made locally and is the strongest goats cheese we've ever had - very tasty! For mains we had beetroot bourginon and pork belly and just as good as the starters. We met the chef (and owner) and he was lovely, as was the woman on the bar. We also visited the farm shop during the day and got some excellent cheeses, incredible pork pie and scotch egg, as well as some lovely gifts. We will be back and definitely recommend a visit!
