We decided to visit the Witching post last minute , contacted the bar and there was no issue at all , seated us at 7.30pm. Food - outstanding ! Bangers & mash ( local beautiful sausages ) Hubby loved the curry & our 14 year old son loved his parmo. Portion size very good and we all absolutely loved all 3 meals tonight and our son loved the fudge cake tonight. Service - absolutely fantastic. Owner is so funny & constantly ask you if you’re ok ! Bar staff - very good and so friendly.. Prices - good We have visited many pubs / restaurants locally and around the North Yorkshire Moors and this has to be the friendliest pub we have visited. After an amazing weekend celebrating our son’s wedding at Danby Castle The Witching Post Inn has definitely made our last night memorable. Thank you for the amazing food , friendly and cozy atmosphere and finally the outstanding service from Peter & his team . Cannot wait till we return.

We stumbled across this small tea room and decided to pop in for a spot of lunch. Overall the food and atmosphere was lovely, however the unpleasant and frankly rude customer service let it down. I went to the counter to place my order where I was met with a scowling gaze from the lady behind it, I ordered and proceeded to pick up a tray and pop it on said counter as to then place the relatively heavy pots of tea on it, however the lady then barked at me and demanded I put the tray on the runners, I obliged, unaware that this was a requirement, loaded my tray and walked back to my table. Furthermore, throughout this whole process not one please or thank you left the mouth of the lady behind the counter. Therefore we dutifully ate our food and left, never to return again.

Beautiful location. The good yorkshire welcome of locally made bread and cheese, along with fresh milk in a flask for our tea and coffee in the room, was a nice touch. 1st impressions were good, but that's where it finished. The room appeared clean until we settled in and noticed the skirting boards and the radiators were thick with dust, and big cobwebs hanging from the ceiling around the bedroom, which were also dusty, so had obviously been there a while. At least the bedding was clean, so should at least sleep well i thought, until i found that the bedbase was broken, so I had to spend the night sleeping with my shoulder in a dip, made for a very uncomfortable, broken nights sleep. Unfortunately, unlike what was advertised, there were no toiletries provided. There wasn't even any hand-wash provided in the bathroom, in place were 2 little bottles of shampoo. Luckily, I had packed my own shower gel. The fire alarm went off for a couple of minutes at 1.30 am. By the time we were dressed, somebody had run down the corridor and turned the alarm off, but then complete silence. The heating was non existent (to be honest not a bad thing given how bad the dusty radiators would have smelt being warmed up) and the hot water was very hit or miss, none at all until 7am, then fluctuating between ice cold and scalding hot for morning shower. There was no mention of the fire alarm at breakfast at all. We didn't mention it at checkout as the only staff member who was around at the pre arranged check out time of 10am was the cleaner, who spoke very broken English and struggled to understand our feedback about the broken bed, so we weren't going to get into why the fire alarm had gone off during the night. I note that the hotel is for sale at present. Hopefully, a new owner could inject some tlc into the areas that matter the most when a guest pays to stay for a good night's sleep and a clean, warm place to rest.

This pub/restaurant is under new ownership but the food and the drinks are still of exceptional quality. We visited at lunchtime (midweek), we had reserved our table in advance (this is advisable) and we were met with a very warm welcome. The menu has changed but still offers a good selection. The quality of the food was very good and the presentation appealing. Always a must when we visit this area. Good luck going forward, this place remains a firm favourite with us

The food here is superb. Served hot on hot plates. We had Doreen's black pudding on mustard mash to start and that was tasty with a lovely sauce. The mains of monkfish with scallops outstanding and again a superb sauce plus a great range of fresh vegetables. Highly recommended.

We visited for dinner when staying on the nearby Egton Estate and had a fantastic evening! The pub is beautifully and uniquely decorated. We had mushrooms and goats cheese for starter - the goats cheese is made locally and is the strongest goats cheese we've ever had - very tasty! For mains we had beetroot bourginon and pork belly and just as good as the starters. We met the chef (and owner) and he was lovely, as was the woman on the bar. We also visited the farm shop during the day and got some excellent cheeses, incredible pork pie and scotch egg, as well as some lovely gifts. We will be back and definitely recommend a visit!

Handily placed after walking from Whitby before setting off back. Lots of usual seafront overpriced prepacked sandwiches and small pieces of cake so tried the stone baked pizzas which are definitely overpriced for the size and quality. Lovely views from tables outside.
