We stayed at the Wilson Arms, and dined there on 2 of the nights we stayed. The evening restaurant & bar staff were all really pleasant and friendly. One evening we ordered the steak and ale pie, and the strips of rump topped with peppercorn sauce. The steak and ale pie tasted really good, the meat was tender and plenty of it, the sauce was thick and tasty, and was one of the nicest steak and ale pies i've had. The strips of rump was a good sized portion, thick and nicely cooked. The peppercorn sauce though very disappointing. It was not very peppery. The sauce was too creamy and a bit sweet when it should have been peppery. It was made worse by the fact all the strips were covered in the sauce. It wouldn't be to bad if the sauce was a good peppercorn sauce, but the sauce we got ruined the strips of rump. The chips were nice, but the side of vegetables were bland, no seasoning, and just either boiled or steamed and served. Apple crumble was hit and miss. The apple and sauce was tasty, but the crumble just wanted very crumble crunch. Very dry and powdery. Next night, they had already ran out of food items like the lamb, fish and other items despite us dining when the restaurant opened, so hadn't stocked up before opening time on that night. Shame as we really wanted to give the lamb a try. We ended up having the steak and the burgers. Steak was nicely cooked again, as was the burger. Onions rings were pretty greasy, and despite a large batter coating, the onion inside was quite small. On the whole the food was good, but let down by certain items which ruined part of some of the meals we had.

This is our favourite place for our annual reunion. Handy for walks and visiting Whitby. All the rooms are comfortable with new en-suite facilities, a good breakfast is included and the bar food offers a great choice washed down with a selection of local beers. Oh, and the pub is dog friendly too.

Lovely little pub with great friendly staff. Just a one night stay with friends but could easily stay here for 3 or 4 nights to visit the local area and sites. Rooms are comfortable and clean and our room had a beautiful view down the valley of Whitby and the Abbey. We had a meal in the evening and breakfast next morning and both were top notch. Will be revisiting.

We came in as an extended family ranging from 5 to 75. The menu covered all the bases we required from a country pub. It's obviously been recently refurbished and it has been done very tastefully. The food was excellent (steak, scampi, sea bass, lamb chops, cheese burgers). Most importantly for me, I presented my son's complex allergy requirements and they were both completely understanding and comprehensive in how they would cater for it. It was wholly reassuring and he loved the fish they prepared for him. Superb service.

It wasn't clear why the wifi password was a secret. It wasn't in the bedroom, and I had to ask the barman. It was pinned up behind the bar, written on the back of a small business card. 🤷🏼♀️ The breakfast waitress is perhaps not best suited to hospitality. Having no printed breakfast menu didn't help, and neither did the waitress. Nonetheless, the rooms are delightful, clean and comfortable and the ensuite is modern and well appointed. Very close to busy Whitby, it's a lovely hotel, despite a couple of problems that can be easily fixed.

Stayed here for a single night. This place is a dream come true, the decor was fantastic, the evening meal and breakfast were a delight, the price was well below what we were expecting. The double room we had was spotless, airy and just a comfort to be in. The shower and washing facilities were spacious. Tea & coffee facilities in the room. We booked this table around a month ago for 4 friends celebrating a December birthday. When we arrived the young guy at the bar completely ignored us while he saw to another customer, didn't acknowledge us at all. Then we were told to sit where we wanted and asked what we wanted to drink. We got our drinks and went and found a table. We realised we had the normal food menu, when we went and asked about the Christmas menu we expected we were told this was pre order only (we weren't told this when we booked the table). We ordered from the normal menu, service was very slow and very unpolished. Lovely girls, just lacked training. Our food was ok, my friend sent her naan bread back because it was raw but this was changed for her. We sat and waited a fair while for our table to be cleared before we went back to the bar to order desserts. I ordered the fruit crumble which was very disappointing as was varying degrees of temperature around the bowl. Abit off putting. The others all had the crunchy cheesecake, which had nothing crunchy about it and didn't seem fresh. The music in the room we were sat in was terrible, not the lovely Christmas music playing in the bar. It was awful dance music throughout. Overall, really quite disappointed. We were all looking forward to this night but all left a little deflated.

The food was excellent, I had lamb and my husband had chicken. I followed this with the syrup sponge and custard. It was, without doubt, the best Sunday lunch we have had. We had a delicious evening meal here, two beautiful roaring fires to really make the place so very cosy and welcoming.

Great little place this for a night out in whitby, lovely rooms, great food, good beer and great hosts. Location is about £8 in a taxi away from centre. Price was excellent value for money all round.

We stayed in Sneaton hall and saw this advertised so popped along for a quick visit. Brilliant food, very good Gluten Free options for my wife. Exceptional company offered from the hosts. Definitely worth visiting and will return!
