What a hidden gem found this place on google for a nice meal first time we went it was Sunday roast wow amazing service and amazing food. We returned a second time for birthday meal a month later and the steak was the best I had tasted all fresh ingredients outstanding. The waiting staff were very attentive the manager should be proud to have such a good team me and the family will definitely return.

Really nice pub B&B, room was spacious and recently refurbished to a good standard. Bathroom was large with a nice walk in shower, again done to a really good standard. The food downstairs was amazing, cooked really well with generous portions. We had the lamb/chicken balti double Stilton burger as well as a few of the starters and desserts over the course of our stay and everything we had was great. Staff are brilliant, location is great with plenty of off road parking. Also, plenty of places to go within very short drives.

I really liked this place. York brewery beers, nice wood fired stove and good food in a family run way. Didn't stay here so no view on rooms. Only criticism is that chef had kept the oil too long and you could taste it.

We booked this table around a month ago for 4 friends celebrating a December birthday. When we arrived the young guy at the bar completely ignored us while he saw to another customer, didn't acknowledge us at all. Then we were told to sit where we wanted and asked what we wanted to drink. We got our drinks and went and found a table. We realised we had the normal food menu, when we went and asked about the Christmas menu we expected we were told this was pre order only (we weren't told this when we booked the table). We ordered from the normal menu, service was very slow and very unpolished. Lovely girls, just lacked training. Our food was ok, my friend sent her naan bread back because it was raw but this was changed for her. We sat and waited a fair while for our table to be cleared before we went back to the bar to order desserts. I ordered the fruit crumble which was very disappointing as was varying degrees of temperature around the bowl. Abit off putting. The others all had the crunchy cheesecake, which had nothing crunchy about it and didn't seem fresh. The music in the room we were sat in was terrible, not the lovely Christmas music playing in the bar. It was awful dance music throughout. Overall, really quite disappointed. We were all looking forward to this night but all left a little deflated.

The food was excellent, I had lamb and my husband had chicken. I followed this with the syrup sponge and custard. It was, without doubt, the best Sunday lunch we have had. We were staying at the campsite at Beacon Farm which is right next door. We decided to try the pub for dinner one night and were so happy we did. We were with my 7 year old little girl and we were made to feel very welcome in the pub. There were some locals who said they come regularly and walk up from Whitby to visit the Wilson Arms. (3 mile walk). My husband had the Giant Yorkshire Pudding with sausages and I had the Steak and Ale pie. Both were very tasty. My husband said they sausages were the best he ever had. They were sourced from the local butcher called Jackson in Ruswarp. My daughter had a little pizza. The best part though was the music. It was Folk week in Whitby and many of the musicians who were in town that week were gathering at the Wilson Arms in the evening to play together. What a treat for us! The music was so good we were delighted to be there.

Very welcoming hosts who are in the process of updating all the rooms .I have stayed here for a weeks hols over the last few years, Dawn and Dan are Wonderful hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them and the breakfasts are amazing. Rooms spotless and very comfy. The pub meals are always delicious with very generous portions and the drinks are very reasonable as well. You can either eat in the bar area or in the newly refurbished dining room and the service is excellent. We have already booked for a week next year.

We had previously seen some older reviews which did not give a very positive view, but as it was the nearest (and only) pub to our holiday booking we went along to see - never entirely safe to pay too much attention to poor reviews. There has clearly been a complete turn-around, if the old reviews were accurate. There was a very warm welcome on our first visit and we had a hearty and delicious meal. We called back again mid-week, and the welcome, service and food were completely consistent with our first visit. The owners are very friendly. The food is well cooked, with generous portions, and the service is good. We decided to go again for the last night of our stay, and bring some friends along. This time we were in the dining room as the pub was pleasantly busy. This dining room is evidence of the work they are doing to improve and modernise the pub, and it is a lovely start. We wish the owners/landlords every success with their venture. We will definitely return when we book the local cottage again.

We love it, every year we stay on beacon farm, we always always go to the Wilson arms for quiz night and a lovely meal. Really welcoming friendly atmosphere, staff are great and year after year remember us (not sure if that's a good thing haha ;))

Stumbled upon this pub whilst looking for something to eat between our country walks and couldn't have been happier! Excellent service, atmosphere and food. The portion sizes were big and it tasted delicious!
