The food was both absolutely the best seafood I've ever tasted but looked amazing too.The chowder was beyond words. Our waiter was so lovely , even offering to take our photo when my hubby tried to do a selfie. The restaurant was busy yet the atmosphere was totally relaxed and although we weren't lucky enough to be sat at a window table the views were spectacular. Can't wait for an occasion to revisit. Highly reco.mended.

We found this on our last day in Scarborough so stopped for breakfast, so glad we did food was amazing service amazing too. Forgot the hashbrown but they where soon on the table. Very busy and you should definitely book.

We had an amazing dinner here. I had the crab starter, which was beautiful, and my husband really enjoyed his whitebait. We both then had the seafood chowder for our main and it was one of the nicest (and biggest!) meals we’ve eaten in a long time. The staff were very friendly, and the view over the harbour was beautiful as well. Highly recommend!

Fresh seafood at its finest, the Lookout on the Pier has a fantastic selection. If like us you order several plates of Tapas to share you'll get to experience some really good food.

Had the larger chowder, it was absolutely amazing, licked the bowl clean! Service was very relaxed no rush, lovely views over the harbour and to top it off, dog friendly! Fabulous. Would definitely return when in Scarborough again!

Like their name suggests this is located on the pier, up three short flights of stairs. Some fantastic views. The service was friendly and efficient. Large cooked breakfast came with toast and a cappuccino and was good. Poached eggs on chopped tomatoes and bacon on sourdough toast was also good, the eggs were good quality and perfectly cooked. We had breakfast here at 8am two out of the three days we stayed in Scarborough, parking is free up until 9am right outside this busy establishment.

A very happy evening was had by all!

The 10oz steak on the surf and turf needs to be bigger in order to not overcook but the quality of. Meat carried it.. Otherwise it's a beautiful spot with lovely food

Nice place. Just went for a hot drink and was fitted in even though they were having an event start shortly. Very friendly and good price. Only thing to note is access is via stairs what are a bit slippery when wet but that is nothing against the business but just a caution.

Great location. Good menu choice for breakfast and open early. Best to book at busy times. It's also dog friendly.

Too salty, too oily. Service with a smile would make a difference.

Quite possibly the worse fish and chip I’ve ever tried to eat! Everything piled on a small plate Luke warm chips with a very greasy fish put on top of them , the mushy peas tasted of sugar, tea served with the teabag in the cup, horrible

Had a lovely meal. I had the chowder and my son the salt and pepper squid. Both were delicious. The restaurant has lovely views over the harbour. Highly recommend.

Hard to beat for breakfast over the harbour.

Thoroughly disappointed that at no point in the reservation process or on the website is there reference to the complete inaccessibility of this place to people of limited mobility. Avoid unless everyone in your party can get up and back down 24 stairs.

Delicious food just really sad that there was no lookout except over the beach. Fantastic food though.

What a lovely little gem of a place. We had surf and turf, kings prawn salad and an accidental order of langoustines and couldn't find a fault with any of it. Not that we were looking though. The staff and their service were equally fantastic.

The food was lovely! Great view over the harbour and the staff were friendly. Lots of clearly labelled gluten free options too (did not try any).

Absolutely beautiful little place with amazing food and an awesome atmosphere. Not expensive but such good food for the price. Dogs allowed and even have a little dog menu to pick from! My little girl got her own bowl of sausages and some water to enjoy while we had our breakfast. 100% recommend and we will be back again.

We had fish and chips, and seared tuna steak for an early dinner. The fish and chips were perfectly fried, crisp and not oily. In addition, the seared tuna steak was so fresh that there’s no fishy taste to it and it’s nicely seasoned and juicy. The place has a picturesque view of the port and the sea, and it has a beautiful, relaxed ambiance. Finally, the staff are very friendly and approacheable, and provided us with an excellent service. For the price you’re paying for, it’s very well worth it.

Me and my girlfriend came here for a spot of lunch before heading back home and wow what a spot we picked. Everything was top quality. The food, the service, the pricing. All of it. When we come back to Scarborough we’ll definitely be returning to Lookout On The Pier

Make sure you book for breakfast I thought it seemed expensive but when it came it was fantastic well worth it And in a fantastic location Staff were cheerful and very helpful

High recommend for quality seafood! Definitely make a booking- excellent service, mussels were outstanding, fantastic cocktails.

We waited more than 1 hour to be served. Because waitress forgot about our table in the terrace. And the worst service I ever had. We waited for bread to arrive for 20 min. We already finished the food and arrived 2 slice of bread. Service - 0, ignorant waitresses.

I think this is tge best kept little secret place. Wonderful breakfasts and luches all for reasonable prices. Thoroughly recommended.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Langoustine were amazing. As was the chowder. It’s in a lovely spot. Can’t wait to go back. As others have said, you need to book.

Unbelievably great all around restaurant! Mediterranean Prawns with rice was divine. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to have a different view of Scarborough.

We loved it here! The food was delicious, the wine top notch (enjoyed the Sancere), and the service attentive but not overbearing. Our lass enjoyed the seafood platter, and I had one of the best Tuna steaks I've ever eaten. Looking forward to our return.

As others have commented recently, was disappointing as have been before and loved it, so maybe it’s gone downhill or they were just having a bad day? Arrived at 305pm 220724, as we saw a free table outside, so upon entering attempted to walk to the table only to be prevented as the lady behind the counter said it needed cleaning. Not a problem at all, but whilst waiting, another lady said she’d just cleaned it so it was fine. We therefore sat down at the table that was clearly not clean or wiped, but thought we’d just mention it when being served. I went to the counter to see what drinks they had and was told everything was on the menu and someone would serve us at our table. Again fine, so we sat down and waited to be served. We waited until just after 330pm (over 25 minutes) to be served and were completely ignored. One person came out and served the table next to us, but ignored us. Upon going inside to see how busy they were, it was mainly empty, 1 female was sat around and the other was cleaning tables. We felt they left us because they thought we only wanted drinks, but in fact we wanted drinks, followed by food, so left and gave our business to another more grateful place nearby. The toilet wasn’t great either with discarded paper on the floor etc, but I don’t want to post a photo of this. To end on a good note, the view is nice, but we won’t be returning.

We live in Scarborough and have been meaning to try Lookout on the Pier for a while. Finally got around to making a reservation, as we knew the seafront would be busy that day due the visiting Spanish Galleon. Have to say that the meal rounded off a lovely day on the seafront. The bistro is located on the upper floor of the pier buildings which have seen better days. Apparently these and the harbour area are due for major redevelopment in the near future. Hopefully the bistro will survive this plan as it is a jewel in the culinary experience of the town. The seafood presentation and quality is excellent. The platter is expensive at £89, but having recently visited the Fish Shack in Amble this is the going rate. For a one off treat it's well worth it. IMHO I think The Lookout just pips the Fish Shack for the experience but both are excellent. If seafood is your thing then the Lookout is the place to go in Scarborough. Definitely be returning to sample more of the great menu.

As seasoned travellers to Scarborough we've searched for a restaurant that offers something a bit special and finally we have discovered the Lookout! How have we missed it before? The service was excellent throughout. As it was my husband's birthday, we decided to push the boat out (no pun intended) and ordered the fish platter. It was excellent with generous portions of prawns (in and out of shells), crayfish, mussels, whitebait and scampi. The chips, although good, were hardly needed. There is a wide range of options available for non-fishy fans from burgers to baked potatoes - but why would you want to miss the fresh taste of the sea? We'll be back!

Amazing food, good quality and friendly staff. Had some of the tapas dishes to share with my son, the coconut lime Prawns were gorgeous! So was the Thai seaweed! We also had scampi, crab cocktail and panko squid. My son had the chowder in a cob, he said it was nice but a little too much celery! My husband had the fish and chips. Everything cooked fresh to order!

I had the lookout burger which was great but the chips we had with it were horrid and like bullits. We mentioned this to the waitress but she just srugged and said she'd tell the chef

This tiny place fills up quickly but they can often squeeze a small party in at the breakfast bar, and the minor inconvenience is a small price to experience their fish chowder, which is the best soup I’ve ever had. I moaned with pleasure after every bite. In fact, I loved it so much I asked for another serving to take away for dinner, and they did something remarkable: they said it doesn’t taste as good reheated so they packaged up the main ingredients (delicious broth, haddock, shrimp, and cream) separately and have them to us with instructions on how to cook it fresh. We followed the simple ingredients and it was just as delicious as when served in the restaurant. I would eat that soup every day of my life if I didn’t live so many time zones away. My husband and daughter liked their meals as well but I was too absorbed in mine to notice what they ate.

This is such an understated restaurant. The sea food is excellent, the chef and staff are brilliant and the view across the harbour outstanding. You have to visit it to appreciate it. Superb.

We visited on a Sunday and it was busy but the staff were accommodating and marvellous. We had booked but had arrived early so we sat and had a drink. Thankfully, we had asked to see the menu while we waited as there were so many delicious sounding dishes to choose from. My Wife and I decided to go for the Seafood sharing platter. Every single bite was delicious. Mussels, Squid, Whitebait, Prawns, Scampi etc. We will certainly be going back there again.

We made a return journey to Scarborough in June & immediately reserved a table with friends at our most favourite fish restaurant. They never fail to please. The fish chowder was the best ever & oysters, muscles, & seabream likewise. We have recommended this restaurant to many friends in Newcastle. Behind an inauspicious entrance and up a couple of flights of stairs, this 'hidden' gem is worth the search. The restaurant is only small, so well worth making a reservation. Try to snag a table by the window to appreciate the view of the working harbour. The food was delicious and served piping hot. Taking onboard other reviews, I had the chowder, which was excellent and packed with seafood. The fish and chips were huge and fish was flaky perfection. The tapas were also great.

Wow what do I say ordered seafood platter for two the tastiest freshest seafood I’ve eaten in a long time, highly recommended.

Lovely location and decor although the food and prices really let it down. Was expecting a top seafood restaurant it really wasn't very disappointing had better seafood in chain Pubs.

We went there hoping to get a table as we had eaten here before and really enjoyed it , we took our friends but unfortunately could only get a take out . The lady serving was extremely helpful and welcoming but unfortunately the food we had was poor ! The fish was tasteless and the chips were rock hard , lovely mushy peas though ! We did have children’s portions as it was a hot day and we thought it would be sufficient for pensioners. Around £27 for 4 ( I just presume you think children will eat anything ?

Lovely place with yummy seafood and friendly staff. We had a seafood platter and a couple of drinks and enjoyed it all. Nice vibes inside and a great view of the harbour if you're near the balcony.

Excellent really enjoyed a delicious meal with friends

There was 9 of us who all had different versions of breakfast and everyone thought it was fantastic. We actually came here because we were recommended it as a friend has family who live nearby and swear by it. We actually had 2 quite picky eaters with us, both of which were also really impressed. The portion sizes were great and the staff were really friendly. I look forward to visiting this place in a few months when I visit Whitby, I appreciate that Whitby is quite far from here but it's definitely worth the drive.

I strongly advise to book this place gets really busy. I’d never had chowder before and it was delicious. It comes in 2 sizes. The small portion was very generous and filling. I may just go to Scarborough for a week so that I can lunch there everyday!

Delicious food. We went for lunch and would have liked to have some smaller bites such as soup or salad available, so would recommend you go hungry. The food is heavy, and rich. They do tapas, but they’re all also quite heavy options. It’s a fabulous little place, make sure to book if you’re more than 2. The view is incredible, great coffee, lovely staff. Well done. We WILL be back, and can strongly recommend to others. Not wheelchair accessible unfortunately.

I recommend booking here. We managed to get seats looking out of the window on a breakfast bar type table. I was very pleased with this but bar stools are not to everyone's liking. The breakfast was great but only warm, not piping hot. The coffee was amazing.

Dog friendly with great sauce on tap (brown and red)! A firm favourite every time we visit Scarborough. Dog friendly, food is amazing - great atmosphere and full of locals. Great view of the South Bay Beach or Scarborough Marina wherever you sit. Quite busy on weekends so would recommend booking.

OMG my sister in law and I shared the garlic lobster and it was absolutely amazing! One of the best seafood meals I have ever had. The service was also very good and nothing was too much trouble for them as I'm gluten free. We will be definately returning next time we are in Scarborough.

Very nice place for sea food. We had a crab salad and homar in garlic butter. Everything was delicious, juicy and fresh. If I ever visit Scarborough will pay a visit again! Nothing better than fresh local food.
