From the outside this bar looks average. Inside much larger than expected, very welcoming and comfortable with a really good selection of beer, lager and cider, including Theaksons Old Peculiar. Worth a visit. 12 months on and visited again. Still as good as previously described additionally, good and not too loud background music. This place is immaculately clean throughout. Will suit all ladies. Also some photos now included.

Spent a lovely couple of hours in this bar when we came into Scarborough to watch the Derby match. The place was clean, the choice of ales and especially ciders was fab. The staff were lovely and friendly. I don’t write reviews of pubs, but this is definitely one I’d seek out. Bonus points for no children allowed in.

Great place to stop for a drink. We visited on a Saturday night and it was very busy ....but great atmosphere. Beer is spot on and good selection of ales. Dogs allowed, no children! Perfect!

This is not your typical Scarborough town centre bar, we tried them, then thankfully we found Scholar's Bar where we returned to the following afternoon on our final days holiday. It is a shame that we didn't discover it earlier. This welcoming dog friendly clean and tidy establishment is impeccably run by a most venerable fellow who keeps a good selection of well kept cask ales and I am told that the sauvignon blanc was good also. Fantastic background music. Highly recommended.

Wonderful pub with a incredible range of real ales, all of which are well kept so you always get a perfect pint. To top it off you have Danny and his amazing staff who are always so friendly.

Real pub, great ales, pretty much all the football channels available. Bumped into it by chance while visiting. Wish it could be my local.

Went to watch Super League on Friday night. Different games shown on various TVs. Great staff and good beer. Older crowd, which we are! Spot on. Been before and will go again when in Scarborough.

Visiting Scarborough for the weekend we headed for this pub after reading the reviews on here. And it was well worth the walk from our B&B. Never been in a pub with such a fantastic selection of cask ales! My wife loved the ciders on offer too. The attention to detail with the pub name on beer mats and glasses ect was amazing. Great atmosphere and friendly locals. Nice and clean. The landlord takes great pride in this establishment and certainly knows how to look after the beers on offer. Also has won the town pub of the year 2024. Recommended.

Decent selection of well kept cask beer. The keg selection looked decent too with a neon raptor stout on keg.

It may have been quiz night but nevertheless what a great little pub - packed full of locals, great atmosphere and background music. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Thoroughly recommended.

Was told all the tables were booked and sign to say you couldn't stand at bar so we had to leave.

When i come to Scarboroughi, always make sure i have a good few in this great CAMRA pub Really good atmosphere in hrre locals and holiday makers and cricket fan's love this excellent ale pub Tuesday 25th July 2023 I again revisited this great Scarborough real ale pun Not far from local train and bus station, it still has a great atmosphere inside it, and as before, a host of well-kept delicious handpumped ales on offer Monday 4th September 2023 We again came into this great real ale pub This place has not in any changed its essential visit for real ale when in scaborough Monday 24th June 2024 Yet again, when i came into this great real ale pub, I was not disappointed. Great staff, great local, and yorkshire cricket fans in this great friendly public house in Scarborough. This pub today had 9 grand hand pumped ales on, and it is an essential visit that real ale drinkers must drink in when in Scarborough

First time here for us definitely worth a visit great selection of real ales and non alcohol drinks which is always a bonus

We visited the Scholar’s for the quiz night on our last night in Scarborough. As soon as we came in the man running the quiz showed us to our table and went through the rules of the quiz, as he was aware we weren’t regulars. The bar has a huge array of options on tap and lots of different spirits. The pub was packed, giving an idea of its popularity. The quiz itself was well run and challenging. We somehow came second and won 8 drinks vouchers. We explained that we would not be able to use them and would be happy to give them back. However, the man running the quiz said that we could take two bottles of wine instead. A lovely touch which we hugely appreciated. If you visit Scarborough I would definitely recommend the Scholars - you will receive a warm welcome from staff and locals alike

The best place in Scarborough if not one of the best anywhere. Amazing drinks. Tried a few different beers. Some lovely stouts. Well kept. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Samples and advise given. We visited a few times while in Scarborough tried a few other places before but didnt want to go anywhere else. Defiantly recommend.

Great place, real ale pub meets sports bar. I needed a place to watch Mansfield Town who were on sky sports. I emailed ahead and they confirmed they would be showing the game. Made me very welcome on arrival. Plenty of choice of real ales along with lagers etc. Lots of tables and seating,TV's showing both Rugby and Football. Very busy but it was Good Friday. Will definitely pop in again when I'm next in Scarborough.

Nice bar this. Good choice of ales, polite staff, well decorated. Loads of screens for watching whatever sport is on. Atmosphere was good with plenty of friendly locals wanting to talk. Toilets were light, clean and spacious. Nothing to complain about here.

We came upon this absolute gem of a bar purely by chance on a recent weekend visit to the town. We only popped in for a quick one on way back to the hotel. We were so warmly welcomed by Amy behind the bar and Dan the landlord ,as well as a bowl of freshly cooked sausages free to patrons , that we stayed for a good couple of hours. The selection of real ales ,craft beers and Ciders on offer was incredible. The bar being a sports bar is full of Scarborough Town FC memorabilia and if you are a lower leagues football fan like myself you will find it very interesting the bar also sponsors Scarborough Town too. We enjoyed our time there so much ,that we returned the following day ,a Saturday ,around midday and were again warmly welcomed by Amy and Ziggy ,who was a real good barperson and very friendly and knowledgeable around the beers and ciders on offer. Of course if you are like myself sports mad ,there was football and horse racing on the many TVs dotted around the quite large bar. They also provide fresh made rolls and bar snacks ,so you will not go hungry , and at around 6pm the fresh made roast potatoes make an appearance , though not for long I can assure you , they are delicious. Unfortunately ,maybe a sign of the times ,but the pub has a doorman on a Saturday ,a very nice chap called Danny ,who I had a long chat with during the evening , he is a credit to the profession and to the bar. So , after nine hours ,we decided to bid our farewells to this fantastic hostelry ,with the grateful thanks of the staff and advising we would always be welcome back anytime , which we found most warming. ! Hopefully ,we will be back in the not to distant future. In the meantime ,we would thoroughly recommend Scholars Bar and a heartfelt thank you to Dan and the team for your wonderful hospitality and making our stay so special.

We found this bar on first night in Scarborough. Landlord was so friendly as were his staff and friends. Fantastic sausages on bar for punters. I wasn't feeling to well due to lack of sleep the night before so went home. I made up for this on Saturday we went in at 12 and stayed until after friendly England game. The staff were great Ziggy n Amy The A team were great too. The ciders are the most I've ever seen. Thanks guys T&G

From my point of view, I really enjoyed watching the Rugby 6 Nations. They are very few pubs locally that celebrate this great game, so it was an absolute pleasure to be able to spend time with those that appreciate this great sporting event. Brilliant atmosphere. I was the designated driver so I can't comment on the beer but my partner who is a real ale drinker was very impressed with the quality of it. He said that the landlord knows how to look after it and said it was the best beer he's had in Scarborough. So that is praise indeed. We'll be back in the not too distant future to enjoy more rugby union and good beer.

We've visited Scarborough for the weekend and I can honestly say this has been my favourite pub. Good selection of beers, friendly atmosphere and sport on multiple TV's. Would highly recommend.

Best pub I found locally will be back for a few tonight

Great sports bar, with a Scarborough and Leeds bias. Fantastic selection of drinks, and good value But my partner a 12% stout which was out of this world. Must go to pub on and bar crawl.

Don't be put off by the outside looking like just another typical pub. Visited about 3 o'clock on a Wednesday afternoon, nice and chilled inside and they had a good selection of ales on tap, really friendly staff on the bar happy to entertain my indecisiveness and let me taste a couple of the cask ales before buying.

As a Leeds fan with a soft spot for Scarborough, I had to pop in for a couple of pints on a recent visit. Brilliant pub with a great selection of Boro memorabilia and shirts adorning the walls which is worth a visit alone for any football fan. Received a very warm welcome, the beer was great (even if the strawberry beer wasn’t to our personal taste!) and left with very good impressions. Will definitely be returning on my next visit.
