We decided to visit the Witching post last minute , contacted the bar and there was no issue at all , seated us at 7.30pm. Food - outstanding ! Bangers & mash ( local beautiful sausages ) Hubby loved the curry & our 14 year old son loved his parmo. Portion size very good and we all absolutely loved all 3 meals tonight and our son loved the fudge cake tonight. Service - absolutely fantastic. Owner is so funny & constantly ask you if you’re ok ! Bar staff - very good and so friendly.. Prices - good We have visited many pubs / restaurants locally and around the North Yorkshire Moors and this has to be the friendliest pub we have visited. After an amazing weekend celebrating our son’s wedding at Danby Castle The Witching Post Inn has definitely made our last night memorable. Thank you for the amazing food , friendly and cozy atmosphere and finally the outstanding service from Peter & his team . Cannot wait till we return.

One of the only places in the area to accept bookings in the school holidays and our booking request was replied to almost immediately which was a great peace of mind for a table of 7. We weren’t sure how we would be received as Southerners & tourists in a local pub but the service was amazing from the girls, really friendly. The food is all homemade and everything was top quality! The highlight was the homemade desserts though - chocolate fudge cake was incredible! The owner had been in the kitchen and came out to chat with us which was a lovely touch Pub has a lovely character and definitely worth a visit if in the area

We stayed at the Witching Post Inn at Egton on the last day of our Coast to Coast Walk. It was a wonderful experience and the friendliness of the staff matched the lovely ambience of the Inn. The prices for food was the best we’ve seen on the trail and the quality was excellent. Pete, the owner is a real gem and nothing is too much trouble for him when looking after his guests. If you are in Egton, call in and say “hi” to Pete and his staff. They will surely welcome you with a big smile and a joke or two.

Excellent! Friendly service, helpful and attentive, but not overly so. The food choice was excellent, lots of vegan/vegetarian options and good portion size. Fancied staying in a pub for a change, what a great find! Could not fault this place, very dog friendly, great food, fabulous staff, 8 miles from whitby which was a little further than I had realised but a short walk to train station and all sorted. Pete the landlord even took us himself on our first day while it was quiet showing us parts we would never have found it seen. Gorgeous, clearly recently renovated rooms, very clean and even had hair dryers. Thank you again Pete and team (and the lovely nelly of course) Will be back as soon as we can find a date you have availability! Xx

Enjoyed an excellent family meal here. Good quality food, generous portions and lots of flavour. The place is unfussy and not pretentious at all. Perfect for families or couples. Good sized outdoor space at the back as well. We thought it offered very good value for money. Very impressed with what looks from the outside to be quite an unassuming pub restaurant. The staff were helpful, efficient and attentive. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday Lunch at this quaint pub in the beautiful Yorkshire dales. We were seated quickly at our table. There was a chilly wind but the heat lamps made all the difference so we were able to enjoy our wonderfully cooked Sunday Lunch while it was piping hot. We were a table of four and although the meal provided was ample we were asked if we would like more (I believe it would normally be a carvery where you help yourself but at present only outdoor drinks and food is available - COVID 19 rules) A large plate of Beef and delicious roast potatoes, along with extra veg quickly appeared. The owner / host was a hoot entertaining us at intervals in the meal with stories and jokes.A few diners were complaining about the cold but that's hardly something the staff could help with, after all it was April on the North Yorkshire Moors. They were lucky we did not have snow, Although the heat lamps did help (Maybe I already mentioned those - sorry) Overall we had a very enjoyable experience with outdoor dining back on the menu after an arduous six month lockdown.

I booked a table for two few days before the arrival. The lady who welcomed us was very surprised and confused when I introduced myself, but eventually realised that there was a table with my name on it (incorrectly spelt, as it must've been very difficult to write the name down after being contacted via Messenger). We were asked if we were going to order food. Menu was provided and we were promised to be served soon, but waitress never came back, despite serving food and drinks to everyone else, back and forth, including people who arrived long after the two of us. When I approached them after 40 minutes of waiting, the lady asked me (clearly, very surprised ) if I was going to order the food. In the meantime, all guests have been offered secluded seating areas with heating lamps (including guests who didn't book a table) and we were the only couple waiting to order food that never arrived in the middle of a cold garden. I've never experienced such terrible service and wouldn't recommend this place to anybody. Maybe they prefer to serve local people first, before anyone else?

Having decided to visit Whitby for the first time I found The Witching Post while searching for dog friendly accommodation and as soon as I found it knew it was the one for us - and was not disappointed. The Inn oozes has charm and hospitality in shed loads thanks to the owner, Pete, his staff and his regulars. Evening in the bar are the perfect place to unwind after a long day out visiting the beautiful oast and moorlands nearby. Our room was very comfortable and we were made to feel very at home and welcome. This was extended to our two dogs (a GSD and Frenchie) who were welcomed by Nellie, the resident dog, as well as all the humans they came into contact with. The food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner. I can recommend the sirloin steaks - excellent - and all condiments were available.......including apple sauce!!I did not get to sample the famous beef cobbler so a return visit is a must. The whole place is spotlessly clean. We are hoping to make a return visit to the North Yorks Coast in Spring next year and will be returning to the Witching Post and will book early so as to request "our room". Lovely area and quaint little pub , there was 12 of us which they catered for well , only downside was they had run out of food , now I know this can’t be helped it would of been ideal for the kitchen staff to communicate with the waiting staff , 3 of us ordered the witching Burger when they came out they were in baguettes one of our party asked if we had ordered Hot dogs , I asked one of the ladies had they run out of rolls which she said she didn’t know and went and asked she came back and and said yes they had as been so busy they had run out , now it would of be nice to of been told during ordering Not once the food had been cooked and sitting in front of us that there was no rolls or if she didn’t know the kitchen staff should of said we have no rolls check customers are happy to still have this option - personally I would of changed my order as didn’t enjoy the burger as didn’t look as appealing as the guy sitting behind us with the same order his in a bun . Again I know it can’t be helped food runs out and I’m happy that people are supporting local restaurants after the current pandemic it’s just the communication side that let the pub down and not giving it 5

Decent pub food, home cooked, usual pub choices, scampi, lasagne etc found it a bit limited for vegetarians but reasonably priced and good sized portions. Dog friendly and staff were very welcoming

We stayed in the nearby area and went out in search of food only to be out of luck everywhere we tried. The lovely lady at The Witching Post however wasn't going to let us go hungry and very kindly reopened the kitchen for us to enjoy a fabulous evening meal at the pub. We were given the warmest welcome when we arrived and had the most amazing home cooked meal. The rest of the evening was spent soaking up the atmosphere of this lovely pub and chatting the brilliant staff. Our whippet was also made very welcome and enjoyed a relaxing snooze by the fire.We could not have wished for a more pleasant evening.

Just returned home after a 6 night stay. The recently refurbished bedrooms are excellent and very comfortable. The "witches" behind the bar are friendly and very helpful. Pete the owner, is a great host and character. He is very knowledgeable of the area and will go out his way to make your stay pleasurable. If thats not enough to make you stay, the food is excellent as well.....the Beef Cobbler is awesome !!. Many thanks Pete, Bev and Alex. I'm sure you'll be seeing us again very soon

When we sat down in the dining room, it was cold and only a two bar electric fire. I got up to go to the carvery and the man carving the meat was texting on his mobile. I waited for a few minutes and then he put his phone down. He said nothing to me and didn’t get eye contact with me. I said could I have beef PLEASE!! He put the beef on my plate without saying anything, and then carried on texting. The meat, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds were ok. But the veg was over cooked and gone gray and mushy (reminded me of school dinners in the 1970’s). Then we were over charged for drinks we didn’t have. It was very quiet for a Sunday lunch time and had no atmosphere at all.

We enjoyed our stay so much we returned for the final 2 days of our holiday as well. Everyone was so friendly and Pete the landlord gave us loads of info about the area and dropped us off twice in Whitby. His full English breakfast set us up for the day and we looked forward to the great food they served in the evening especially after the walk up the hill from the station.

Stopped by in unknown territory for a quick pint after visiting Egton Bridge. Cosy, clean, solidly built stone building with modern twist and lovely welcoming fire. It's situated at the top of a hill and looks out on the village. Decent selection of food and drink. The locals were friendly. In fact, we got chatting to Pete, the landlord, who was hilarious. We were made to feel very welcome and would certainly return - possibly to stay - if you will have us. I'll wear my flat cap again to blend in if that's alright? Top hospitality in a world that often lacks 5 minutes for you.

Me and my family came here twice as part of our stay in Egton as a mini break. We were so impressed the first time we couldn’t resist a second visit in only 3 days! The staff were amazing - we took my autistic sister who finds eating out incredibly difficult; but the owner of the place was just amazing with her. He did her the food that she wanted even though it wasn’t meant to be served at that time. They were very accommodating and understanding of her needs and that certainly goes a long way as it can be very hard or us as a family. The atmosphere in the place was really welcoming and friendly, and the food was just perfect. Really good, filling home cooked meals - the shepherds pie was to die for! If you like traditional food then this is the place to go. I’d certainly recommend it and hopefully we will go again in the future :) thanks!!!

We got marooned at the Postgate Inn whilst out walking as they stopped serving food at 14:30, furthermore they advised us that if we wanted food we would have to go to Whitby. We messaged the Witching Post and they confirmed that they serve food all day and furthermore they would come and pick us up. They arrived within 5 mins and whisked us up the hill to a truly delicious and exceptional meal, we ordered the Beef Cobbler and the lasagne, both were perfect. We cannot thank Paul enough for doing this and bailing us out, true Yorkshire hospitality at its finest, everyone at the Witching Post you are a credit to yourselves and the area and deserve every success that comes your way.

We're on our annual holidays up in North Yorkshire from the South (Hampshire). As today the weather had really closed in, we thought we'd book a table for today, as we passed the pub on Saturday afternoon, and thought it would be good to go there. Well that was a great decsion.. It's a 'Theakstons' house, and the Real Ale/Craft Beer was excellent. We had the 'Lightfoot' at 4.1% abv, it's perfect for a bright lunchtime ale. We had the Carvery which was excellent value for money, with a great choice of vegetables and cracking Yorkie Puds!! And a nice log fire too!!! Also for those swith four legged friends.. The Pub is Dog Friendly.. Gets our vote, I think we'll be back again! Delighted!!

Visited the last beautiful weekend of the summer. The staff were very friendly and informative. We’d made a reccy visit on the Thursday where we were advised they had a huge party booked on for the Saturday night so suggested a later time for us. We were looking at eating in the bar as we had a dog with us. As it turned out we visited on the Friday (20/09). Very welcoming and although they were busy managed to find a table big enough for the 3 of us. The food was perfect. The staff very friendly and chatty without being ‘in your face’. It reminded me of some of the lovely pubs we’ve visited in Ireland. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again when we’re next in the area.

We visited The Witching Post for an evening meal as we were staying in the area and were impressed by other reviews. We were not disappointed! We both had the beef cobbler, which was quite simply excellent - incredibly tasty, and real home-cooked food. A delight. So lovely to find a landlord who really goes out of his way to make visitors welcome, and is keen to share both his local knowledge, and a joke or two. Lovely traditional pub - and a really varied menu. There were visitors from all over the country when we visited, so we hope that this delightful pub continues to draw visitors, and prospers. It deserves to! 5 stars!

Very cosy pub in 18th century premises with tasteful, quirky interior, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Very friendly staff and a highly knowledgeable landlord with a cracking sense of humour and who bends over backwards to make guests feel welcome. We immediately felt at home in the cheerful atmosphere! Very reasonably priced menu for both lunch and evening meals, high-quality fresh local produce, and the tastiest chips we've ever come across! Homely, tastefully furnished bedroom with a generous hospitality tray and a very clean bathroom with a decent shower unit. The pick-and-choose breakfast option was ideal for us. A real home from home and the perfect place for a relaxing weekend!

My wife and I visited after seeing a sign scribbled on a chalk board during the day. It's an innovative little pop-up based in the vaults under Scarborough Market Hall, where there are craft and vintage shops by day. Manned by owner Paul who is very knowledgeable and chatty, we were treated to some superbly kept wines in a quietly informal atmosphere. It's a far cry from the hoi-polloi and bustle of Scarborough drinking holes, and one which must be prized. Top work, we'll be back.
