My partner and I thought we would pop in this tea room for lunch as it was just a short distance away from the busy streets of Whitby and thought they maybe missing out on trade. All the other cafes and tea rooms were full. Harbourside Tea Room was completely empty with two members of staff sitting at a table looking bored. We were just about to enter when we were told that dogs were not allowed. As we had our dog with us we could not go in. This place must be losing so much custom due to it's location and no dog policy.

Once again we visited Harbourside tearooms whilst in Whitby.Again we were made very welcome. We had coffee and cakes. Others were having breakfasts and it was and is cooked on site as required. Well worth a small walk along the harbour to be welcomed in for a brew and something to eat. No chips here but that is not a problem when you see the menu! Brilliant service again. Keep up the great work and see you next visit. Well done

This is a very nice little tea room, with a small simple menu. For me the only let down was the quality of the sausages, I understand that it's a cheap eat, however the sausage very poor. We were looking for a nice tea room and this place was exactly what we were looking for right by the harbour. The food we had was home made, veg soup and a jacket with beans. We then had the Scones with jam and fresh whipped cream, these were the best scones we'd had in a long while. Perfectly light and airy with a medium density. Lashings of cream and a nice cup of Yorkshire tea to wash it down. Great, clean and friendly place. We learned a little of the History of the place, appropriate given it was the end of October!!

I popped into this little gem on my tour round Whitby on a hot but very windy day. This was to be of significance for, having had one cup of tea, I became ill due to heat stroke (no the tea wasn't THAT hot! I clearly had not drunk enough on my tour round). The attention provided by the proprietors went way beyond simply serving me my cuppa, giving me a glass of water and contacting the ambulance service and it got to the point that they stayed long after their normal closing time until the taxi arrived to take me to the local hospital (don't ask me why the ambulance service decided to send me a taxi which came all the way from Scarborough just to take me 1 mile to Whitby H.). They even found the phone no. of The Whitby Catch to tell them that I would be late collecting my earlier-placed order. Thus I was at the Harbourside Tea Room for almost 4 hours and, during that time, there was a steady stream of clients who obviously knew this place. Thus the hospitality I received from the proprietors went way beyond that which would normally be expected. I highly recommend this café.

A very warm welcome greeted us, which continued throughout the time we were there. As a family of 5, we tested pretty much everything on the breakfast menu & it was all very tasty. (Was also tempted by the tasty looking cakes, but was only breakfast!) Contrary to other reviews on here, I can confidently say that no cheap ingredients were used - we even got to try a Lincolnshire style sausage that they are testing out, which although not to my taste, my hubby & kids loved! We were recommended to come here but it wasn't as good as we expected, We had the full English breakfast. The sausage in a full English breakfast will tell you all you need to know and this was supermarket cheapest. For a few pence more you can buy excellent sausages from a local butcher, but so many cafes get this wrong. Service was fine though. Oh, the name is a little misleading - it is more carparkside than harbourside.

The service was quick and polite, the drinks arrived quickly soon followed by the food. The small veggie breakfast was lovely, what nice scrambled eggs! The only complaint I have is that the plate was quite small and my toast was soggy from the beans and tomatoes, while hubby's toast was on a separate plate - why not mine too? This is just so much better than the chains - mentioning no names - that try and sell you half baguettes at rip off prices. We arrived having cycled up some 1 in 4 hills and needed urgent refuelling. The welcoming smile was matched with a pot of tea which also came with a second pot of hot water without having to ask for it. The all day breakfast was just what we needed. Freshly cooked, not swimming in fat, tasty and simply great. The cakes looked enticing but by then we were too full to try them given that we had a few more miles to ride. In a word, excellent.

A decent cafe, perfectly OK, but IMO a long way from the "full marks" awarded by most of its reviewers. Its no better ( or no worse) than the other breakfast spots I used in Whitby during a recent stay.
