Beautiful location. The good yorkshire welcome of locally made bread and cheese, along with fresh milk in a flask for our tea and coffee in the room, was a nice touch. 1st impressions were good, but that's where it finished. The room appeared clean until we settled in and noticed the skirting boards and the radiators were thick with dust, and big cobwebs hanging from the ceiling around the bedroom, which were also dusty, so had obviously been there a while. At least the bedding was clean, so should at least sleep well i thought, until i found that the bedbase was broken, so I had to spend the night sleeping with my shoulder in a dip, made for a very uncomfortable, broken nights sleep. Unfortunately, unlike what was advertised, there were no toiletries provided. There wasn't even any hand-wash provided in the bathroom, in place were 2 little bottles of shampoo. Luckily, I had packed my own shower gel. The fire alarm went off for a couple of minutes at 1.30 am. By the time we were dressed, somebody had run down the corridor and turned the alarm off, but then complete silence. The heating was non existent (to be honest not a bad thing given how bad the dusty radiators would have smelt being warmed up) and the hot water was very hit or miss, none at all until 7am, then fluctuating between ice cold and scalding hot for morning shower. There was no mention of the fire alarm at breakfast at all. We didn't mention it at checkout as the only staff member who was around at the pre arranged check out time of 10am was the cleaner, who spoke very broken English and struggled to understand our feedback about the broken bed, so we weren't going to get into why the fire alarm had gone off during the night. I note that the hotel is for sale at present. Hopefully, a new owner could inject some tlc into the areas that matter the most when a guest pays to stay for a good night's sleep and a clean, warm place to rest.

Second visit to the horseshoe where we stop in a camper-van in the car park. The hotel is a little dated and quirky but the food is fantastic. We both had poached salmon with clams and scallops and it was perfect and after three courses and two bottles of wine the bill was only £110.00 with free parking overnight with a WC available at night. Definitely be back again next year

Stopped here on the coast to coast walk. It is a quirky old place with outstanding service and creative food. When I think back about my favorite stops on the C2C, this inn comes immediately to mind. Windy halls with funky decorations and cozy rooms--it all felt very comfortable. My expectations for food had gotten quite low by the time I got here, but I was blown away by the menu. Certainly this was the best food we had on our hike.

Great place to drop in for a drink and enjoy the attractive garden setting, with characterful chickens scratching around, and the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors ambience in every stone and leaf. Good beers and an attractive menu.

Great old building with characterful bar. Wonderful setting with an outdoor area which is as good as what you would find anywhere. I drink cask beers and on each of my two very recent visits, the beers, though not OFF, were of poor quality. For a pub with such a lot going for it, it's a shame those in charge don't serve beer of a much higher standard.

Superb lunch stop on our bike ride. We weren’t sure what options there would be on our ride so we’re delighted to come across the Horseshoe. We had cake from the farm shop and a pork bap from the hog roast. All delicious and service was really friendly and efficient.

Lovely location, sunny garden, shop with awesome pork pies! Quirky decor - many stuffed animals! Food in the evening excellent - best eaten on the C2C. Rooms a bit tired. A warm welcome from the hosts!

Nice pub with a very olde worlde atmosphere, 3 beers on offer and snacks are served in the bar. They have several rooms and it seems very popular with walkers. Group's have their bags sent on ahead to make walking easier.

Absolutely stunning place, situated in a pretty village a train ride away from Whitby. Train to Whitby and back cost £4 each! Craig, the owner/chef, and his mum are so friendly and welcoming. We stayed two nights in our campervan in the small car park. Free electric too - as long as we ate in the pub. The food was delicious and really good value. Beautiful dining room and cozy friendly bar. Chickens roam the gardens, which also boasts a pizza oven and outdoor bar in the summer. Fantastic farm shop selling food and gifts. Such a wonderful find.

Pub, no Internet in the area, no street signs, no bus station signs. Do not use it to stay over night if at room 4 as its over kitchen and has constant noises for over 6 hours, rooms have complimentary jars with earplugs but it's unsufisient help for the extreme amount of banging, owner is beyond hostile if you try to explain your name unhappiness over the noise nuisance and talks to customers as if they are his employees. I never succeeded to try the place food as was told they ain't happy to cook for me but will if I insist, did not bother to take my money regardless not serving it, and declined refund for the second night stay as I had to check out to avoid the noisy room. Might be nice place to come get few pints to get pissed and try the local foods but not a place I recommend anyone to use as a hotel, rooms are heated to 15 degrees only and bed covers sustain variety of dog hairs as its pet friendly. The host Craig is beyond unhelpful, don't bother with him he tells lies and doesn't keep his word. He insist vusitors make deep research about property from his own Web site prior arrival, in the near area there are no other alternatives if you deside to leave, not many options to leave the area with public transport either as bus and trains are only few.

Welcome great, room small but only in it few hours each day stay in 1 week with coach tour. Staff the best.Chef is excellent food presentation Fantastic . Could not fault it.Lots to do in hotel and area around. Bar not over priced as a lot of hotels are. We will go again ASAP. Manager very hands on and very pleasant, One young lady (girl) stood out served coffee after meal and helped our small team with quiz answers. She should have award as staff member of the year. Lovely young lady.

Another super weekend of music at the Crescent Hotel! Thurs eve was Blues with the wonderful Alastair James, Friday was Open Mic night, Saturday was Nils' (Events&Bar Manager) 40th Birthday with a great Oasis tribute band and DJ sets until 3am and then tonight we listened to the talented singer&guitarist, Jack Robertson, who covers songs from Dylan to the Arctic Monkeys. The bar staff are endlessly chirpy, efficient and friendly. Thanks all. I'm looking forward to events such as Rocky Horror, Punk Rock and Swing Nights as well as the regular Blues night.......

What a find! This has been the loveliest meal we have had this year. The food is beautiful, my husband had haddock and loved it. I had rib of beef and it was just delightful some of the best food I have had. The landlord was super lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were lovely and attentive but not over bearing. The menu gives lots of choice and there is a brilliant gin menu. They are dog friendly too so we all had a wonderful time- thank you. We have booked up for Sunday lunch when we are next on holiday over here. I couldn’t recommend this place enough
