Penny Black Chippy in Scarborough

Amazing quality 5 star's for the exlarge haddock. It's my once a week treat and oh how I look forward to it. I would like the add that the service is gold star and the staff are amazing and very welcoming and really can't do enough. The owner is the Friyer and he really knows his stuff and this comes from a friyer in Leeds. Now retired in Scarborough. If you're lucky enough to find this chippy you won't be disappointed.

We’ve been going to Scarborough as a family of 10 for a number of years and on at least one night of the week treat ourselves to fish and chips. As we always stay in the North Bay Area we’ve usually joined the queue at the chip shop named after the area…until last week when we discovered the Penny Black Chippy…it was a revelation! Lovely friendly owners, everything cooked to order, wonderful fresh fish, delicious batter, perfectly cooked chips…and the best mushy peas I’ve had in years. We went twice and this will now be our chip shop of choice in the future. Blummin’ lovely!

Quiet chippy ,soggy batter and cold gravy

Lovely fresh fish, good size portions at a very reasonable price. Very tasty, crisp light batter that wasn't greasy. Highly recommended.

Being half term I had my little one who really wanted fish and chips. As it was mid day my usual place was closed so we did a quick Google and found the penny black. The premises are clean and nice to wait inside, which is good as food was cook to order - the best way as this ensured everything was fresh and tasty. I had the haddock and chips which was excellent, and my little one had the chicken nuggets and chips meal again which was very good. Overall everything was excellent and the price was very reasonable. I think this will become my new go to for fish and chips. UPDATE: I have been many times since and this is the only fish and chips shop in Scarborough I go to now.

Absolutely disgusting they advertise they have everything on the menu but as soon as you try order most of the menu they don't have needs shutting down

Great fish and chips, clean and friendly place

Searched google reviews for the nicest fish and chips in Scarborough and boy they weren’t wrong!!! Fish and chips were beautiful and freshly fried to perfection!! Fish almost melted in my mouth and had the perfect amount of tasty batter on. The chips were beautiful aswell and I don’t normally like chips very much. Guy behind the counter was friendly and polite. Paid under £10 for cod and chips, which given the quality and taste is excellent value for money. Will definitely return here for my next fix and I’d recommend this place to everyone. Also their chunky curry sauce is mouth-wateringly tasty. One of the nicest chippys I’ve ever tasted.

Visited at the weekend, had a large order for a group of us staying at an Airbnb locally. Everything was cooked to order, the owners were so friendly and great to talk with. But most importantly the fish was excellent and the chips were spot on. Highly recommend this chip shop!

Delicious fish and chips at a very reasonable price. There is also a great atmosphere, with friendly staff and some fab old photos of Scarborough up on the walls, to browse as you wait.

This is by far the best Fish and Chip shop in the local area. The food is cooked to order, the batter is fantastic and the staff are friendly. I am very fortunate to live close by so I am a regular visitor. If your regular fish and chip shop let you down, give this one a go. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Whilst on holiday, we called into this Chip Shop as we were staying close by. Everything tasted wonderful, all cooked to order, very quickly done too. Excellent value and delicious.

Absolutely fantastic. The fish was cooked perfectly and the batter nice and crispy. not mushy like most seem to be nowadays. I’ll definitely come back, I think this will be my new go-to.

Got small fish and chips good sized portions and nice good quality food

fish and chips were delicious however the middle aged woman on the counter smelt louder than the fish in the friers in the back. im talking stanking like the seafront marine drive type stuff i couldnt breathe it stank so musty in there. she also glared at me whilst i was playing candy crush waiting for my food and she dribbled a bit at the same time. think she was called Shannon or something, needs looking into.

First time using Penny Black Chippy, will definitely use again. Food was lovely
