Eskdale Fisheries in Scarborough

Lovely fresh fish and chips served by friendly attentive staff. We travel quite some distance to come here for food. Good that they also have skate and plaice available, as well as crab salad. Closed in Mondays, which is a shame, but they need a day off! Car park is fairly small but there's free parking nearby. Disabled access through the takeaway door. Most tables are in the nice and light conservatory. Seating is basic but very comfy. Easy to accommodate a wheelchair. Also worth visiting the antiques centre across the road while you're there.

Everytime we go to Whitby, we stop on the way home for fish and chips. Portions are good and tasty. Better than the fish and chips in the town centre.

Después de tratar de encontrar una plaza de aparcamiento en Whitby, nos rendimos y nos dirigimos de nuevo a Sleights. Llamé alrededor de las 4 pm a Eskdale Fisheries. Conseguimos una mesa muy rápido y optamos por el Especial de Pescado, Patatas fritas, pan con mantequilla y una bebida caliente. El pescado estaba encantador y en escamas en una masa ligera y las patatas fritas eran excelentes, perfectamente cocinado y no grasoso. El precio es excelente relación calidad-precio y la calidad es alta. Tampoco podría fallar el servicio. Sin duda volveremos de nuevo.

Familia de cuatro cenando aquí el fin de semana de Pascua. Espolón del momento, encontré el pescado agradable y fresco y ligero rebozado crujiente cuando pedí ligeramente rebozado este lugar entregó exactamente eso! Las patatas fritas estaban bien cocinadas en carne de vaca. La salsa para mí era muy sosa y usaron margarina en el pan en lugar de mantequilla, lo que fue ligeramente decepcionante. Sin embargo, el personal es agradable y en general buena comida.

Another amazing meal at Eskdale fisheries. The large haddock was cooked to perfection, with light crispy batter. Chips were ‘real’ chips and not the pre bagged ones other fish shops use. A mix of small crispy ones and golden fluffy ones. Staff are polite and friendly with nothing being too much trouble. A lovely evening at a great place. We will be back.

The guy serving the food in the chefs trousers, talk about having a bad attitude. The takeaway bit was busy so we moved and stood in the cafe bit (which was completely empty) He told us to move away from the tables as people have to eat on them. Talk about bad attitude, there are nice ways to ask We Moved in across the road three weeks first and last time you will ever see us

These are the best fish and chips we have had in many a year. Beautiful white flaky fish in a light melt in your mouth batter. My large cod was excellent. Made and felt welcome by the young lady servers.Plus not expensive.Beats the Magpie by a mile.Will be back.

Just had takeaway from here tonight and I felt the need to leave a review after enjoying top quality food and service. The counter staff were really welcoming and friendly and the speed of service was impressive and a nice touch that the fryer man made conversation. The order was, cod and chips, spam fritter and chips, curry sauce which was fruity and delicious, proper mushy peas, pineapple fritter.. Everything was cooked fresh and was pipit hot, cooked to perfection with crispy batter, beautiful piece of cod fried perfectly, chips lovely and tasty, browned on the outside and fluffy and soft on the inside. Excellent food, staff and value for money highly recommended and will return. Ian, Durham

I've been again today 29.12.24 great again very constantly good I've been down again for dinner. It's well worth the trip from saltburn for the excellent fish and chips.

Called in today had fish ,chips, with tea bread and butter and a portion of mushy peas. Lovely fish,nice crisp batter, and excellent tasting mushy peas. 😋

Comprobé los horarios de apertura en línea, todavía faltaban 45-50 minutos antes del cierre, llegué para encontrar la puerta de comida para llevar bloqueada por mesas (piense en el estilo lockdown 2020) Luego fui a usar la entrada de la cafetería y me dijeron que volviera alrededor de la otra puerta y me servirían afuera! No se da ninguna explicación, ¡Era una tarde a mediados de noviembre!... ¡Por favor, no deje que sus clientes de pago ordenen y esperen afuera en frío helado cuando tenga un espacio dentro! Entendería si faltaran 10 minutos para la hora de cierre, pero ese no es el caso aquí! la comida era promedio.

Siendo local siempre he apoyado este restaurante, de hecho como familia hemos disfrutado de varias comidas aquí. Nuestra última visita fue, sin embargo, decepcionante. Beautiful fish and chips, with some appealing choices. I had lemon sole instead of cod and it was excellent. The staff were lovely and the place has a nice cosy feel to it. Highly recommended.

Hemos venido aquí durante muchos años, ya que en nuestra opinión esto es pescado con patatas fritas en su mejor momento, a un precio razonable también. Personal siempre agradable y servicial. Tendrá que reservar una mesa si visita un viernes a la hora del almuerzo ya que se pone muy ocupado. Nada más que decir que disfrutar.

We have been coming to Eskdale Fisheries since 2005, as part of our must do when we're in North Yorkshire for our holidays, The Food and service is always excellent. Best Haddock in the White Rose Republic!!! :)

For those of you not familiar with proper fish and chips, this is a fine example of the very best. It is not just the quality of fish & potatoes, the Yorkshire cooking style cooking it at the perfect temperature, nor the fish fryer knowing exactly how long. It is not just the correct perfect horns on the batter but the cut of the fish too. Which allows the full taste experience of finely sourced well handle North Sea Cod. Perfect! If you think you know good fish and chips you will love this and realise what the best really should be like. If you are not sure what great fish and chips is, this is where you will find out. Take out available and for sit down booking advisable.

Lovely place away from the hustle and bustle of Whitby town centre

Superb, proper fresh fish and chips, Superb service.

We are here whilst staying close by recently. The staff were ever so friendly and the food was really good. Reasonably priced (and they do scraps too!!). We got plenty of everything and we even got a little sweet bag after we paid!

The fish is delicious! We also had the smoked fish risotto and that was really yummy too. The staff are very friendly and welcoming - well worth popping in!

Proper Yorkshire chish and flips in a great location with parking. Cod was fresh and cooked perfectly. Batter had flavour and was light and crispy. I had a regular piece which was plenty, but if you are hungry you can have a large for £10.60. My wife had Whitby scampi and said they were the best she had eaten, and by the sounds she was making, I would agree. The scampi was large and for 10 pieces the price was good. The breadcrumb coating was crisp and not overcooked. Chips were tasty and the mushy peas and tartar sauce seemed homemade and both didn’t last long. There was lots of choices including pizza and all for a reasonable price. Staff friendly and all food cooked to order which didn't take long. We had takeaway but there is a restaurant. Apart from Mondays, this is open 6 days from 11:30 to 8pm. Would highly recommend and will certainly pop back next time we are in the area.

This chip shop never fail to impress us. Large Cod & large Haddock are actually huge! Piping hot chips, bubbly batter and plump white flaked fish, absolutely blooming scrummy! Yorkshire curry sauce is very different to Derbyshire too, very fruity and we like it👍

Had lunch here today - the Eskdale Special. Delicious as always - beautiful fish and batter, lovely chips and tasty tartare sauce. And the staff are great. Will definitely be back.

Had takeaway cod & chips. Quite nice except chips were very bitty. Toilet facilities not available to takeaway customers. After a journey of 20 miles this was disappointing. Also had to wait outside for order to be delivered to me.

Staying five mins away in a holiday cottage we called in for an early dinner and so pleased that we did. The fish was so fresh, white and silky and red hot with crispy batter. Highly recommended!

Enjoyable meal with a family friend. We had both passed the fisheries many times over the years so after a Whitby trip and off to do a road check a mid afternoon meal beckoned. Lemon soke and chips was my personal choice ... very nice with garden peas. Friendly service and clean surroundings. Parking cramped but manageable

Be aware you need to stand outside under scaffolding when waiting for a takeaway, odd. When you used to stand inside like any other fish shop.

Not local to the area but we were staying in Goathland and passed Eskdale Fisheries on our way there. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and our food was delicious. The fish in particular was succulent, cooked to perfection and a decent size. The chips were tasty too, not greasy and a good portion size. All washed down with a nice cup of tea and for a very reasonable price for sitting in. We would highly recommend a visit.

Draining deep fried food is an important part of cooking. The food was swimming in excess fat with congealed as it cooled. A beautiful venue lovely staff but the food was vile much of it ended up in the bin.

Most excellent takeaway fish and chips, big portions and piping hot. Superb fish, we had cod haddock and plaice, mushy peas and curry sauce, all great.

In my experience Eskdale Fisheries outperforms all the far more expensive fish and chip shops in this area.

Came in late one night as we were hungry while staying in Ruswarp. Perfect scampi and haddock, chips, and the service was perfect. I'd definitely recommend!

Pathetic effort. Apparently a vegetarian burger is a solitary fried patty without a bun, any dressing or salad, wrapped in an obscene amount of paper. And as if being made to wait for your order under a dodgy scaffold in the wind and rain isn’t bad enough they’re too cheap to even put your takeaway order in a carrier bag…I don’t mean you have to pay extra…I mean they don’t exist. The rest of the food is overpowered with the taste of grease, like what you’d expect a 4am post night out takeaway to feel like…
