This pub/restaurant is under new ownership but the food and the drinks are still of exceptional quality. We visited at lunchtime (midweek), we had reserved our table in advance (this is advisable) and we were met with a very warm welcome. The menu has changed but still offers a good selection. The quality of the food was very good and the presentation appealing. Always a must when we visit this area. Good luck going forward, this place remains a firm favourite with us

Verg good food. We went on a sunday evening and they have a more limited menu but plenty of choice and the quality is great. Best to reserve a table as we popped in Friday for a drink and every table was occupied. Good service throughout too.

Wow! We were staying in a nearby village and wanted somewhere close by for dinner. They fitted us in last minute and our table was available as soon as we arrived. Would definitely advise booking ahead of time. Our order was taken quickly, the tables are quite close together and there were a lot of locals in but it felt welcoming and cosy. The food was served in a timely fashion. The kids portions were a good size. Our children 10&12 had plenty on their plates, but still found room for pudding! My chicken escalope was tender, juicy and flavoursome. The accompanying vegetables were cooked and seasoned to perfection. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food. Would definitely return and have been highly recommending the food here

We stumbled across the Wheatsheaf on the way back from a day out in lovely Whitby and stopped off for dinner. It is a charming, idyllic little establishment on the main road through Egton with nice views of the moors from the tables on the grass verge outside the front door. We ordered the homemade chicken tikka masala and scampi and chips. Both were beautifully presented, piping hot, clearly homemade, superbly tasty and as fresh as a daisy. Service was quick and nice and friendly and the setting was very relaxing. We won’t need any egging on to return to Egton!

This was our first visit, and certainly won't be our last. Everything about this place is first class .. small but varied menu, lots of delightful and different ideas, quality cooking and presentation and just the right amount. Our party consisted of 6 adults and our six grandchildren who also loved the children's menu options! This establishment should be recognised on a national level!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!!!

I first reviewed the Wheatsheaf in 2011, on our first visit. We have been regulars ever since then, except, of course, during lockdown. We were so pleased to be able to return after the easing of restrictions. This is the best place to eat in this area. The menu has always been interesting, not just the usual pub grub. The kidneys are sometimes available on the special menu at lunchtime, they are very well cooked and presented and are very tasty, as are all of the dishes. My husband likes the scallops. The desserts are great and there is a good selection ice creams. The standard has been consistent and the service is informal, but efficient and welcoming. This is my favourite lunchtime restaurant.L

We came here on a recommendation for the food, which was not entirely wrong, but we wouldn’t rush back. The atmosphere was quite dead despite being full, due to the way the rooms were separated and furnished, as well as a lack of background music. The menu offered a decent choice, but we were taken aback by the arrogance and awkwardness of saying on it that no substitutions or changes would be made in any circumstance. I could maybe understand refusing on request major changes that fundamentally change a dish, but it did not come across well putting this on the menu itself and being outright - it removed any sense of welcoming. We had scampi and chips (though there was no vinegar available) and the ‘burger’ with sauce. I say ‘burger’, as while it was technically a patty it’s certainly not what you’d expect when ordering a burger and would have been impossible to eat with your hands due to the amount of sauce. That said, it was tasty and we enjoyed the food, but as said given everything else we probably wouldn’t return.

We stayed in the holiday cottage opposite so walked over for Sunday dinner. I can honestly say I had the best Sunday dinner out I have ever had. The main course choice was good. I had the roast pork which just melted in the mouth. The extensive selection of vegetables that can with the meal was amazing. I was to full up to partake in pudding, however the other members of my party did. All I can say about the puddings when they arrived was wow! When we are next back in the area we will be returning. A very friendly Yorkshire pub, well done to the owners.

We visited this pub whilst on holiday and had a fantastic meal. There was a varied choice of food from pub classics to more gastro-pub options. The crab linguine was sensational and the portions were generous without being too much. The service was outstanding especially given how busy the pub was. Beer quality top notch. We didn't have dessert which was a shame as these looked amazing too and they have the option of trying a smaller portion of 3 mini desserts which is a brilliant idea. Would highly recommend.

Booked 3 days ago for a birthday dinner for partner. They had recorded our booking for a week later and offered a small table in bar area not the restaurant. Very small bar with no social distancing possible. Became very uncomfortable due to close proximity of other guests and asked if they could sit us in the restaurant. This was refused by the elderly gentleman. The female member of staff was doing her best to persuade him to give us a table. He refused. No suggestions provided to remedy their mistake and totally unapologetic. Mistakes do indeed happen but the way it was dealt with was rude and unnecessary. Such a shame as the food is clearly exceptional. The customer service on this occasion was not.

Came here when last stayed in the area 8 years ago so wasn’t sure what to expect. We wanted a trip down memory lane and we certainly got it here. The place was busy, a little too busy under the circumstances probably but the staff kept their eye on people to ensure social distancing was kept up.The food was fabulous. Reasonable prices meets michelin quality. We’ve eaten at Michelin restaurants before and this was on par if not better than some.Queenie scallops and 3 cheese soufflé to start was perfect to start with. Followed by fish stew and the best crab linguine I have ever had. Couple this with a recommendation for the perfect wine at a very reasonable £19.95 this was a wonderful experience. A trio of puds to share followed and capped off with filter coffee I expected £100+ bill, less than £80 for all the lot and we had a pint and half before we started. If you are coming this way this place is a must eat. I won’t be leaving it another 8 years that’s for sure.

We stayed at Broom House for two nights while on our first visit to North Yorkshire. The Wheatsheaf Inn was recomended by Luke and Brianne. We were not disappointed. We enjoyed starters, main courses and desserts. All courses were freshly cooked, piping hot and tasted amazing. We sat in the small bar to the left of the property. It was a warm evening and all the tables out the front were full... eating in the bar ended up in our favour as a thunderstorm came over. We had scallops and soufflé to start and the chefs specials for main course (duck burger and prawn linguine) and then we finished with lemon posset and pavlova. The service was excellent from our two waiters and without doubt we would recommend the Wheatsheaf Inn to anyone (and hope to explore more of North Yorkshire and visit here for dinner again).

I used Messenger to book a small celebration dinner for my 70th birthday and to celebrate my first outing for dinner after shielding since March. On arrival we were told there was no record of of our booking and it was suggested we wait in the bar until some one else had finished their meal. The landlord was rude to my husband and I felt uneasy in the small bar so waited in the car until our guests arrived so that we could explain the situation. As we had commitments the following day I didn't want to eat late so we went home and eventually found a fish and chip shop open. I checked Messenger and the booking had been confirmed twice.I hoped the Wheatsheaf might contact me to offer an apology but when one was not forthcoming I contacted them .The person who took the booking got back to me with a brief apology and a long explanation about why they would not use Messenger for bookings again.I had hoped for a gesture to apologise and to persuade us to return to the Wheatsheaf but nothing was offered.Mistakes sometimes cannot be helped it how these mistakes are dealt with that matters.

Tables were well spaced and the waiting staff wore masks, which certainly put us at our ease. As expected, plenty of hand sanitiser etc.Equally as importantly (actually, let's face it - more-so!), the food was still exceptional. Rare roast beef and a fabulous array of delicious vegetables. My wife chose fresh crab linguine and I had a burger with salad and chips as I am a fussy eater. My wife said that the crab linguine was delicious while I enjoyed the burger filling, salad and tasty chips but, as usual for me the burger bun was too filling so half got left. However, the desserts (what I "live" for) were really special.. we both went for a tasting dessert. This was a choice of three small servings from their list of desserts. Really delicious andnot so much that we felt guilty. The only thing that was disappointing was the lack of other diners in the larger dining area.

We visited this country pub for a family get together at lunchtime .Friendly enough staff and food ok, but the dining area we were in was very cold .There was a log burner but it was let to burn down and not fed .We asked for additional heating and a little heater across the dining room was plugged in .We were the only diners in the room which was cold ,and not really very inviting and lacks any atmosphere .We have been here several times and its always been the same . They have a lovely bar area its a pity it doesnt extend to large dining room .

Popped in for a drink and were welcomed by a warm log burner. The landlord and guests were very friendly and the beer and wine was very good. There is a restaurant too and it was fully booked so really showed how popular it is. The menu looked god and all dishes where reasonably priced. I would like to go back when next in the area.

My friends and I love this place. We booked for lunch on New Tear's Day, there was a fire in the hearth where you walked into the cosy bar. We ladies love our sherry and were recommended one by the landlord, a sweet Christmas sherry which was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals, most had the pie, I had a goats cheese tart. Delightful and leave room for a dessert because they are so good. You can get a trio of small ones if you are spoilt for choice. You'll get a warm welcome here. As I said last time, the only problem is that i don't live near enough to go more often.

We were 4 for lunch between Christmas and New Year and I was so impressed by the food and the atmosphere at this Inn. We sat at the round table by the bar which was super cozy and as the bar was not very busy it was just right. I had the best cheese souffle I have ever had ( and I have tried a few) whilst my friends enjoyed their streak and kidney pie and burgers. We had the trip of desserts for pudding and they were all gorgeous and such a great idea.

Enquired by email during the day about a booking for later that evening and within the hour a table was booked at our convenience. Lovely welcome and gorgeous food all at a reasonable price. Well recommended if you’re in the vicinity.

On the advice of our B&B; owner, we went to the nearby Wheatsheaf Inn for dinner. The menu choices were outstanding. In addition to the printed menu there were a number of specials on the board. There were three of us and we all chose different entree's. There were no disappointments. We enjoyed it so thoroughly that we returned the second night of our local stay so that we could all order other entree's from the extensive choices and enjoy it all yet again. The service was perfect. Just the right amount of attention. In all of our meals, the remarkable flavors were distinct and just right to accentuate the dish. If we were not several thousand miles away in the U.S. we'd return this very night.

Four of us came for Sunday lunch. Restaurant not large but plenty of room for the tables used and comfortable. I love the old style English pub atmosphere. Nice log burner in the centre, We had a very nice lunch. Menu was just Beef, Pork or Lamb. I had combined beef/pork a good idea as I wasn’t sure which to order. Lots of vegetables and a large variety which we loved. Perhaps our teenagers would have preferred a Chicken option but not a big issue. Plenty of parking front and back. Would be happy to return.

I went here with 5 family members. Everyone else's meal looked fine. I had ordered the mushroom risotto. It was a fraction the size of everyone else's. I queried this. The landlord said that it was very filling, but if I was still hungry I should just say and he would bring me more. I finished well before the rest of the family so told the landlord I would like some more. He then turned into Basil Faulty. He ranted that the dish contained wild mushrooms and truffle oil (not mentioned on the menu) and it was just a "light lunch". I could have another, but he would charge me. If it did contain wild mushrooms and truffle oil the portion was so tiny it could not have been much. Rice is not expensive, there could have been more. The landlady then spoke to him and then he said "I have been told not to charge you". By this time the whole family felt rather uncomfortable. If he hadn't reacted in that way we would have had more drinks and a dessert. What an unpleasant man!

We came here on many high recommendations and it did not disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious. If you want a roast with all the trimmings and then some, the Wheatsheaf is for you. My favourite part was the array of creatively cooked, home grown vegetables, but the potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were perfectly cooked too. The food arrived quickly as well. The choice of beers was fantastic and the service was excellent. All the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and the chef went way beyond the call of duty to help us out- thank you!

Didn’t get off to a good start, when phoning to enquire about the Sunday Lunch menu was told “Beef, Pork, Lamb or vegetarian option”. Having asked about starters “you don’t need them, our meals are sufficient but you can have dessert” this was followed by “two sittings, 12 & 13.45. If you want later sitting you’ll need to book 3-4 weeks in advance”. Nearly didn’t bother but our friends really wanted to try it.

Our party of 6 enjoyed a lovely lunch earlier this week. We have been several times before & have always found the the food to be extremely good & great value for money. Crab linguine & crab sandwich, Caesar salad, belly pork & kedgeree all delicious, washed down by Helmsley brewery beer and a lovely white rioja. The trio of mini puds is a great idea as it's always difficult to narrow your choice down to 1!

Had lunch here with friends recently and was delighted by the quality of the food (as well as the beer). I had queen scallops in a cream and garlic sauce: a pleasant surprise on a pub lunch menu. I think this is little a tester for a chef. The Wheatsheaf chef passed with flying colours; the scallops were cooked to perfection, tender and lightly done so that they melted in the mouth. They were accompanied by a good salad with real dressing, and excellent chips. My friends were equally pleased with their dishes.

First after reading a previous review from Julish8803YD about manners I would like to say that the landlord was so pleasant on our visit. He was so welcoming to us all from the moment we arrived. We were a group of 8 with 2 small children and the landlord supplied games aplenty so we could all enjoy our meal and visit.

My wife and myself have just left the wheatsheaf inn after having an excellent meal there. Having read some negative reviews we thought that as we were nearby anyway we’d give it a try. We’re so glad that we didn’t pay attention to them. The staff were spot on, knew what they were talking about and also entertaining. Even though we hadn’t booked they still managed to fit us in. We both had excellent starters then moved onto the main course. I had a coronation chicken curry, I’ve never tasted anything like it before. It was so full of flavour. I just went for ice cream for dessert as I was quite full. My wife couldn’t manage a dessert but that didn’t stop her trying mine. They have an excellent variety of flavours to choose from.

Gorgeous place to come to and is always on our list as a ' must go to'when we are in Filey. Beautiful setting and everything here is really delicious. The lemon meringue tart and coffee cake are to die for. It's lovely sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine. Sadly it was raining today and as we have a dog we couldn't go in, there was some seating under a canopy for the ice creams but sadly for us just a bit too chilly to sit out. It is cash only so that is something to always remember when visiting.

Great cakes and bread to eat in or take away. Dogs are allowed inside. We had a good lunch. It was very busy, because the food is very good.

My wife uses a walker. We had never been to the Deli before so were unsure how to proceed. The staff completely ignored us. It was as if we were not there, or invisible. Even as we walked out of the Deli, no staff member offered any acknowledgement of us!

First visit. First impression delightful location. Extremely poor / processed quality food (not uncommon with many cafes/tea shops). Very small slice of cake and eclair with equally small dollop ice cream, cup of tea and mug coffee cost £12.70. As with the venue people seem nice. Accept dogs (which is great). Suggest review and improve quality of food and presentation. Leaving a used cigarette ashtray on table not indicative of professional service.
