Visited this cafe today as I have on many occasions, lovely coffee but the proprietor thought it was appropriate to voice personal opinions about me when I said I would like sugar. I'm afraid this cafe has lost my custom and if the proprietor wants to keep local customers he should be wary of what he says.

Visited on the last day of the year, while on holiday. It was a gloriously sunny but cold day. Walking in here, l was immediately impressed. The atmosphere was wonderfully tranquil, despite the fact that the cafe was almost full. The space is light and open with interesting art work on display. I had coffee, a toasted sandwich and a scone. All were excellent and the scone appeared to be fresh from the oven. Excellent, attentive and welcoming service. Will certainly recommend and come again on my next visit to Whitby.

Glad to have found this through the good reviews on TA, which are evidently well deserved. We visited on a Sunday, when it was staffed by the owners. We found them friendly and enthusiastic, chatting happily with us but never once imposing. Some really good local art is featured (including from one of the owners) and the cafe aspect allows you to take it all in without feeling you need to either buy something off the wall or hurry up and get out! We don't tend to go into art shops but we'd visit this place regularly if we lived in Whitby!

A really lovely café with the bonus of an art gallery. Some unique work on display from fine art , textiles, ceramics. Nice to see that you can purchase small pieces of art work such as a brooch a scarf or a card if money is limited. It is nice to see that every time you go they seem to give up and coming artists a chance to show their work. Some lovely original pieces. A lovely relaxing setting to sit relax and have a well earned drink and a piece cake whilst admitting the art work. It is on upper level but a lovely place to visit. Really friendly staff. Called in to the art cafe in Whitby for a spot of lunch on a very hot busy day in summer. Were were welcomed when we arrived and our order was taken straight away. Nothing was a bother, I asked for a half portion as I cannot eat very much and was told I could have anything I wanted. We could also make changes to what we ordered, missing the things out you don't like and adding in extras. The owners were very friendly and cheerful. Drinks arrived very swiftly and we sat listening to soft jazz melodies while waiting for our food. Food was all prepared on ordering. Food was really tasty and very well presented and we didn't have to wait long for it to arrive. Lovely atmosphere, light and airy cafe with views into the gallery. Highly recommend a visit. So good we might even have to go back later for coffee and cake!

We found this place purely by accident on a quick visit to Whitby. We wanted a coffee and a quiet break from the surging mob that Whitby draws unto itself. You might miss it because it is upstairs but worth the search. A real oasis of calm with a modern touch - losts of good quality art (paintings, sculpture and carftwork by local artists of genuine talent - no weekend daubs of sheep and pretty flowers here). Sofas and easy chairs in which to relax, magazines to scan and a friendly welcome. The music is sublime - Dave Brubeck when we were there (the owners are obviously very intelligent and ooze good taste!!). Then cometh the refreshment. Coffee that is the real thing - no Nescafe or "brewed yesterday - boiled up today" - the cakes are made by someone who knows all about baking (have they got a Mary Berry clone in the kitchen?). This place deserves to flourish because it is run by people who obviously enjoy what they do and make this such a friendly place. (I do go on a bit, I admit, but when the alternative is a 'kiss-me-quick' caff, Art Cafe is an asset to Whitby. "Get up them stairs!!"

If you want a peaceful lunch in attractive surroundings, visit the Art Cafe! The food is lovely and the staff are always friendly. This is the place to be to get away from the bustling crowds. Local art, soft music and good food. A great experience.

The coffee is piping hot, the service is great and all in a very relaxing environment. There is lovely art to look at and you are not rushed. We went in May and ate then, it was good. Just went for coffee this time and still very lovely.

We were trying to seek refuge from the teeming rain one wet weekend and came across this little cafe/art gallery. Interesting art work and nice calm atmosphere. We chose the soup which was delicious, served with nice bread and lots of it. Very pleasant staff, very decent coffee, good service.

Called here today for a late morning coffee and whilst most people were eating we were made very welcome. Service was friendly and an apology offered for nothing more than a brief delay. The chap serving was professional, efficient and friendly. The tea and coffee were excellent and he made sure he knew how we liked it when we ordered. Bought a small item from the gallery which is also well worth a browse, albeit fairly small. Didn't eat as mentioned, but the cakes looked wonderful!! Recommended.

We visit Whitby regularly and have seen the Art Cafe reviewed on Tripadvisor but never visited before. Took the opportunity at Easter weekend when Whitby itself was really busy. The cafe was great . A peaceful relaxing atmosphere , excellent coffee , speciality teas and great cake. The manager (owner?) was friendly and courteous and the prices were fine. We will definitely be back.

We were a little cold and in need of a coffee. I wasn't particularly enthusiastic to enter as there was post on the floor and I don't know just something made me expect to wander in and regret it. My husband who is of course always right persuaded me that we should give it a try and I have to admit that on this occasion that he was right and I was wrong. Nothing could have improved this experience other than them being able to turn the sunshine on so that it wasn't as cold when we went outside again. Lovely coffee and welcoming and friendly staff big comfy sofas and fascinating things / art to look at in a really relaxing and comfortable atmosphere - I am sure that we will be back as soon as we return to Whitby.

We popped into The Art Cafe last weekend. It was a bitterly cold day and we looked forward to sitting with a coffee and reading a magazine. That's exactly what we did and it was fine...but not enough to tempt me back. The coffee was good, the toastie was too but it was chilly ( and yes I know it was a cold day but it would have made it lovely if it was warm inside), the chairs weren't particularly comfy and it was ...ok. I know this makes me sound as if I'm hard to please and I don't think I am. Maybe cafes are like people....sometimes there's chemistry and other times not!

Not your typical sandwich bar or coffee shop. Incredibly quiet, even at 1pm on a Saturday, and some might be put off by the lack of "atmosphere". Being upstairs only doesn't help, as people are unlikely to just wander in off the street, unless they already know about it. But the excellent food and friendly service more than make up for that. The soup, in particular, is really special, with delicious warm bread. Afterwards, my wife and I decided to share a sandwich, and they served it to us half each on two plates, complete with crisps and garnish - a minor point perhaps, but it demonstrated an attention to detail, and customer service, that really makes a difference. The coffee was a little on the weak side, but had we known I'm sure we could have asked for an extra shot. They deserve to succeed.

We visit each time we come to Whitby which is at least twice yearly. For something a little out of the ordinary I suggest you make the effort to seek out this Cafe which is a little out of the way but certainly an oasis of peace and quiet. The owner and his wife are always welcoming and ready to pass the time of day or maybe you just would like to chill out with a coffee and a newspaper. Excellent service and the food is homemade and good value. All this and you have the benefit of viewing the work of local artists. What more can you ask for.

First visit. First impression delightful location. Extremely poor / processed quality food (not uncommon with many cafes/tea shops). Very small slice of cake and eclair with equally small dollop ice cream, cup of tea and mug coffee cost £12.70. As with the venue people seem nice. Accept dogs (which is great). Suggest review and improve quality of food and presentation. Leaving a used cigarette ashtray on table not indicative of professional service.

We are staying locally a d wish we had found this pub earlier in the week. A warm welcome a d great food. My husband had chicken pie and i had the sea bass. Good portions, well cooked and piping hot. We had bread and butter pudding and rice pudding afterwards. Again both excellent 👌.

My wife uses a walker. We had never been to the Deli before so were unsure how to proceed. The staff completely ignored us. It was as if we were not there, or invisible. Even as we walked out of the Deli, no staff member offered any acknowledgement of us!

Gorgeous place to come to and is always on our list as a ' must go to'when we are in Filey. Beautiful setting and everything here is really delicious. The lemon meringue tart and coffee cake are to die for. It's lovely sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine. Sadly it was raining today and as we have a dog we couldn't go in, there was some seating under a canopy for the ice creams but sadly for us just a bit too chilly to sit out. It is cash only so that is something to always remember when visiting.

I booked this venue for my son's 40th birthday. Nothing was too much trouble, and they even offered to step in when we didn't think the disco was going to come! Lovey and clean, excellent room.
