Lovely run pub in staithes, great atmosphere and a proper old school pub which there aren't many left now a day's. We went there every night with our dog while we stayed in staithes and the barman was great with us coming to see the dog and bring him treats. Thanks for the great hospitality

Well managed, very friendly traditional, authentic pub. Unbelievably cheap drinks (£2-3.50 a pint!) and back to basics good hosting and atmosphere "we don't do wifi, we talk instead" and cracking, well cooked meals with seasonal veg and "proper steak pie", recommend phoning to check timing and availability of food. Had a lovely evening chatting with locals and bar man.

What a lovely find somehow missed this place before. Just tucked away down a hill this fabulous pub like time has stood still in a nice way. Tons of character and a pleasant gentleman behind the bar think he was the landlord. Could not believe the price of a Guinness so cheap well under a fiver. Got a pint of Guinness and half a lager under a fiver unbelievable thank you landlord

We rented the cottage next door for a few days, so the Fox and Hounds was very convinent for us, the place is a little gem, snug and warm and a real pleasure just to sit and have a drink. Paul behind the bar was really welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. The bar prices are a lot cheaper then where we live. The food served at the pub cannot be described as Pub grub, the food is traditional home cooked food at its best. We ate twice during our stay and both meals were delicious. One small point you should know however, book early because they only have limited capacity, you may be disappointed if you arrive without booking. If you do call in by chance make sure you ask Paul if there are any tables left, you may get lucky. It so sad that pubs like this are dieing off. Wish we had more pubs like this in Liverpool.

I cannot praise this pub highly enough. It's a proper, traditional country pub - very cosy, welcoming (but not falsely fussy), hospitable, delicious food, great prices. It's perfectly hid away in a small village, away from the busy hub of Staithes. If you wish to eat, it's probably best to phone & check as they have limited capacity. Opening hours are also worth checking. But I would recommend this pub to everyone, especially if you like a pub with NO sports screen/loud music, serving traditional pub food (the landlady is the 'chef' & also would pop out/take orders. Her lasagne was the tastiest I've ever eaten!). We ate there 3 nights out of 5 & the next time we're staying in the area, we'll definitely go back. A rare find in today's world of gastro/trendy pubs.

A traditional English pub, which had a lounge area with comfy sofas. Main attraction for visitors was the price of the beer - £2-3/pint. The welcome was warm and friendly, and there is the opportunity to sit outside at the front or rear and enjoy the ambience. There appeared to be a vast menu (served 6-8pm) and it was very busy, but we never had the opportunity to eat there.

Staying locally I’d read reviews and we made a point of calling one evening. We were able to enjoy the company of locals on the rear terrace in lovely early evening sunshine. My OH raved about the wonderfully well kept pint and my own Adnam’s 0.05% bottled ale was good - hopefully next time we visit I’ll be able to sample the real stuff! Next time we’ll book a table too, they were busy serving food. Will definitely visit again.

Wow, what an interesting, quirky place this is. It’s like the tides of time have been turned back decades when you walk into the Fox and Hounds. It’s how pubs used to be back in the day and it’s wonderful that this establishment, with its coal fire, gleaming brasses and music stuck in the 1950s, has made it into the 21st century. Even the menus are written on blackboards and the only thing that surprised me is that it wasn’t cash only when it came to paying for our meals. A very smart gentleman in his sixties took our orders, manned the bar and waited on our table in a friendly, efficient manner. Indeed my partner and I saw no other staff in our early evening visit as we waited for our meals with Frank Sinatra, Connie Francis and Everley Brothers music playing in the background. The menu is extremely varied and I thoroughly enjoyed my King Prawn Ragu dish and my partner thought the home made steak pie was excellent. The bill was very reasonable and we shall most certainly pay another visit when we’re in the area.

The Fox and Hounds, Dalehouse, is a secret gem that you cannot believe still exists. It exudes charm, comfort and warmth. Let alone the Beer Garden being a major sun trap. The beer is in fine fettle. The menu has the great staples of country food and in addition some unusual ones. Irene. Ward and Paul have created a oasis of serenity in a storm of tv, fones and WiFi era. Once you have been, you will be like us, loathed to share it with others.

Great little gem of a pub, with its roots from previous years. It offers both local and visitors like myself a true pub experience of a lovely pint of ale, at great value prices, in an atmosphere of a true pub. Meaning no inane music blasting out of oversized speakers, no fancy bank of video games nor fruit machines. Better still no oversized TV’s mounted on every available wall, in fact no Tv at all. Brilliant just the sort of place to go in to with or without friends, given the Cozyness of the main bar room you will for sure make conversation with other similar natured persons passing the time in this hidden gem of a pub. We have stayed in the vicinity of the pub a few times now and it seems like our new local every time we return each year. Nothing changes, from the ease and tranquility of the establishment, to the respectful, polite and well mannered staff member called Paul. A true gent……. Back room is full of big lazy sofa’s for those feeling the want a more laid back rest and refreshment. The small but well laid out beer garden to the rear of the pub adjacent to its smallish car park area catches the sun when it’s out, again offering a quiet place to sit and drink in Dalehouses peace and bird songs from the wooded area beyond the carpark. The food offered in the pub, is well priced, presented and enjoyed by those who choose to eatin. Although the pub appears quiet in the bar at times, it’s worth booking a table on evenings to ensure a table, as it proves very popular with visitors and locals. Which is recommendation in itself. We for sure become part time locals for the duration’s of our regular visits to Dalehouses, year on year. Many thanks, Kevin Mulligan, from Leeds.

Top quality food at a very reasonable price. Go find this pub close to Staithes and enjoy a home cooked style meal in a typical countryside pub. We were a group of 6 adults and were all delighted with our meals. The roast dinners were excellent and plenty of food per plate. The puddings were amazing and we all left very full! Dropped my American wife off at the front door 10 minutes before the kitchen was supposed to close and went in the back to park. Landlord told my wife the kitchen closed at quarter to eight and she left by the front door. I can in the back door a minute later and asked the same question without an American accent. He politely asked me to wait a minute while he checked with the kitchen as it was close to closing time. Miraculously the kitchen said they would be happy to serve me…….. not sure what happened here but probably best if the English accented people in your party do the talking. I didn’t stay so can’t comment of the food. The interior looked very cozy.

We visited on the first night of our 4 night stay at Staithes Holiday Park and really enjoyed the inviting and cosy atmosphere in the bar, created by a blazing coal fire and a few locals having early evening drinks. We were so comfortable that we decided to eat there and were glad that we did. The venison casserole and steak pie were both delicious, my venison casserole was accompanied with a lovely selection of (5) different vegetables and we were given an extra jug of lovely homemade gravy. The drinks were so reasonably priced that I had to check with the friendly landlord whether they'd charged us for everything! It was well worth the short walk from our accommodation and we intend to return there on Thursday on the last night of our stay.

Me, the wife and our very friendly Labrador went out of our way, walking through several fields in the dark of winter to visit what looked like a cosy countryside inn: we were after a couple of early evening ales. We liked the look of the place and thought we were onto a winner, only to find a large sign on the entrance stating NO DOGS. We found this bizarre for a pub called the fox and HOUNDS which is in such a rural location. The place looks old world and a bit tired so can’t imagine this was anything to do with looking after the carpets or furniture. I can only presume that the owners don’t like dogs. Anyways, that’s as far as my review goes. One star for being completely out of sync with it’s location and surroundings, and for the wasted walk we had trying to give the place some much needed business (it was empty).
