Lazenby's on York Place in Scarborough

Never been before so was a little worried about what it would be like ! It was wonderful ,lovely food and fantastic service.

After searching for a place to eat for my wife's birthday, I found licorella. Seafood platter, good wine and the staff were great. The food was fresh, exceptional. The Spanish white was the perfect choice for the seafood. The restaurant was a little quiet, but out of season, not totally surprising. I'd recommend anyone to go to the restaurant, fantastic food and staff.

We booked Licorella on a recommendation as we wanted to celebrate a big family anniversary. We were not disappointed. The service was impeccable and they looked after our party very well. Thank you for this Licorella. Great food and wine, the bouliabasse was a particular highlight.

We'd pre-booked the table (well in advance in September I think) not only for the meal but specifically organised with the owner a table well away from draughts, near to the kitchen, as I have a disability so I feel the cold more than usual. This was agreed and confirmed, and so we left it, thinking it was all sorted. When we arrived on Christmas Day, our table had been given to someone else. Not only that, but they queried our reservation, having given us the wrong name on the reservation. To add insult to injury, we were then located at the table bang opposite to the DOOR, so every time it was left open, which was 99% of people coming in - thanks for that - someone from my family party had to then get up and close the door, to the point where I asked for my coat to wear so they could eat their dinner in peace. This was December 25th and it was freezing. You'd think people would understand that when they just breezed in, leaving the door wide open behind them. Service was poor and slow and at one point, one of our party didn't get their main course at all. Our rare fillet steaks got cold while we waited, and even then, we had to grab a waitress who had passed us several times, to tell them we had a main course missing. By which time, our meals were cold so we sent them back, but they just warmed it all and our rare fillets were - microwaved? - warm again, no longer rare. It's a damn shame that we were not respected enough to have the table we specifically booked, despite my disability, but to mess up the reservation, our names, the food, and the service, it was all too much. We'd been BIG FANS of Danny and Rimi until then, even having a huge family dinner there one night with all our Dutch relatives coming over, but you've lost us now with that disgusting Christmas Day debacle. I felt so disrespected after years of loyal custom I couldn't wait to leave. No coffee, no dessert, no coming back.

Absolutely fabulous service from start to finish! Amelia you made us feel so at ease, looked after us amazingly. The food was incredible and such good value for money. Can't wait to return when we come back in the summer

Very poor value 4 of us ate and only one of us felt the food was good. I had the lobster and as well as being really small ( I have had larger king prawns) it was over cooked. The veg was more than al dente it was almost raw the chips were also overcooked. The seafood linguine was stodgy and the calamari tough. On the good side the oyster starter was nice. I had seen some good reviews which attracted us to book and go but I would not return.

This was our first visit and we wish we had been sooner.What a lovely little place something different .The food was all excellent, fresh and unique. Very good value for money. Fantastic cocktails.The waiter was amazing .We will definitely be returning.!!

Wonderful meal. Very good attentive service, we enjoyed the waiters humour. Both of us had garlic mushrooms and the steak and scallops for main, which was divine and cooked to perfection. Bottle of cotes de rhone with the main and some fizz, which were very nice. Finished of perfectly with limoncello. Glad we decided to eat here, while visiting Scarborough.

The food is all cooked freshly and it shows!!!! So tasty and plated food looked extremely appetising - exceptional x Service by the actual owner was friendly and informative x The whole occasion was fabulous and well worth a visit x

Staff were so lovely, accommodatint and attentive, the food was immaculately presented too. We also had a palette cleanser of lemon sorbet after the starters which was a lovely surprise. We will definitely be back!

Fabulous food, ambience, attentive staff for a post matinee supper around 5.30pm. Restaurant starting to get busy as we left. Starters oysters and pil pil king prawns followed by fillet steak with scallops and seafood linguini. Highlights Oysters super fresh Steak cooked to perfection at medium rare Definitely recommend

First time going to Licorella and impressed enough to book again after the meal, everything was cooked fresh and well presented and very tasty, starters were large and good value,lemon sole was delicious, and the steak and spaghetti was a winner too. Cocktails were made to order and a winner.

Total rip off . We ordered bruschetta £5:50 for one small slice of Ciabatta. It tasted good but not worth £5.50 £39.90 for Paella which was not a Paella , 5 pcs squid , 8 mussels and 4 prawns . It tasted ok but was not paella. I did tell them but they ignored my comments . I paid full price. I wouldn’t recommend you go .

Very smart vibrant atmosphere offering excellent service from one overworked waiter on quite a busy evevenig. Verbal food description misleading and the recommendation resulted in a poor choice. The Brie starter was the right consistency but only just luke warm, the melba toast was like thin cardboard and doughy. My wife's crab cakes were tasteless and also only just warm. The vegetarian main course was piping hot and tasty. The wrapped pork loin dish was very solid, barely luke warm and tasted fatty. Nearly like a terrine? Plate presentation gave eye appeal but the food has to be good too. May be we were unlucky but we got the impression presentation matters more than quality. Sorry bur disappointing.

It’s when a restaurant gets the simplest of things right. Top class evening, I’m highly critical if it’s wrong. However this restaurant will exceed your expectations. The seafood with chorizo linguine is quite possibly the best Ive ever been served, not to be missed. They serve a mean spritzer too. 12/10 all day and evening long :)

Very nice food, staff were a bit too attentive, bringing some 'additional' courses to try (tuna mayo salad on a spoon?!) But the food was lovely and very well presented. I ordered the fillet steak with risotto which was delicious but a very big portion! My husband ordered the pasta. We would certainly recommend.

Me and my husband were visiting Scarborough for our honeymoon, we stumbled upon this restaurant, we didn’t have a table booked but they were very accommodating, the waiter couldn’t do enough for us and was friendly and chatty the food was lovely, I would definitely visit again next time we are in the area. What a find! My boyfriend and I absolutely loved it. We were an early evening booking as it was a pre theatre dinner. It is a charming venue and romantic too. The table service was great and wines were lovely. All the food was piping hot and cooked beautifully. We went for the seafood options but others are available. Although the place is dog friendly I was glad there were none in there when we were. I am not keen on sharing my dining experience with dogs. We will return even if we just drive out to eat there. So happy to have visited.

My boyfriend and I had an amazing meal here in September. It is a charming bistro down a side street in Scarborough. It has an open-plan kitchen. Very clean. Nicely decorated. Cloth napkins (a rarity these days). All the food was piping hot. My rose blush pinot grigio was beautifully cold. A sorbet palate cleanser was a nice (free) touch, as was the shot at the end. We both went for seafood starters and mains. There was so much to choose from, especially if you like fish/ seafood, but meat and veggie options are available. We were staying overnight in Scarborough, but we will be back even if we drive over just for the visit. We loved it very much.

Lovely meal , Goats cheese salad , Chicken Kiev and fries . Nicely balanced meals at a moderate price . Delicious. Relaxed pleasant atmosphere .

A last minute booking on a miserable Sunday evening - but oh what a find! The warm welcome, the ambiance, the service and the delicious food were all outstanding! Lovely touches too of a ‘palate refresher’ between starter and mains, and then a shot of Limoncello when the bill arrived. We enjoyed the sorbet ‘refresher’ so much that we asked for it again for our pudding - but with a measure of vodka added - and they were very happy to oblige! (You need to add it to your puddings menu! 😊). Can’t recommend Licorella enough and we will definitely be back when next in Scarborough.

Came last week with my mum and grandma. Restaurant small and in need of a refurbishment. Service good on arrival but as time went by it was clear they were extremely understaffed and had to wait 40 minutes for the bill after asking and 20 minutes for dessert order to be taken. Average, over priced food. My calamari was luke warm along with chicken kebab that was overcooked and the hand cut chips were rock hard, like they’d been reheated multiple times & left out to dry. My mum and grandma both had chicken kiev for mains which looked fantastic yet tasted incredibly bland and under-seasoned. Was looking forward to coming here but the whole experience was rather off putting for a future return.

We booked at short notice for a pre theatre meal. We were not disappointed! The meal was excellent. The service friendly, cheerful and efficient. The place is obviously a popular restaurant. We certainly recommend it.

Food delicious, great selection, waiter explained food on specials board, everything was cooked perfectly, presentation was good and all the dishes were lovely and hot and the service was excellent. We got an aperitif before our starters and a palate cleanser between our starter and main course and finished off with a shot after desert. All in all it was a great evening and I would definitely recommend this lovely restaurant and we will return.

A very nice place to eat, a very good menu with lots of choice. food was cooked perfectly. Very friendly staff would definitely go there and next time in Scarborough.

Really accommodating, welcoming staff. Food served timely but unfortunately only average at the best. The muscles were small and stuck to their shells, was expecting muscles a la creme to be a creamy colour not tomato based as served. The crusty bread was served burnt and then the replacement wasn’t even warm. Paella was a strange brown colour and far from vibrant. It was very bland in both taste and presentation. Won’t rush to return

Very cosy restaurant, very chic decor. The staff were very welcoming and the food was superb. Not the cheapest but fabulous for an indulgent treat!

Fabulous food. We ordered a ribeye, a pasta dish and a fish meal . All arrived super hot and cooked to perfection. The focaccia bread was amazing. Staff were attentive and friendly.

The restaurant has a diverse menu with lots of seafood, which is one reason we selected it for dinner along with its rating. The service was very good and the restaurant is obviously trying hard to get into the top-notch with mini-starters and a sorbet course. The calamari first course was excellent but I'm afraid after that things went downhill with the worst lobster I'd ever eaten. When asked how it was my reply was 'tasteless and mushy', which caused consternation and an apology, but nothing more. Also, my wife's lemon sole mains was overpowered by the strong sauce, so another real disappointment. Would I go again, I'm afraid not.

We enjoyed a lovely meal at Licorella. We were served by friendly, attentive staff and enjoyed all the little touches including the complimentary Russian salad to start, and limoncello to finish. There is a lot of fresh seafood plus steak, meat dishes and more.

Have been to Licorella 4 times and it’s always excellent. The food is great…. Chocolate fondant dessert is amazing! Staff are always friendly and welcoming. I just do not believe any bad review. Recommend highly.

My 'Draught' beer was poured from a bottle right in front of my eyes. Waiter very arrogant didn't even think to ask us if we wanted sauces. Food was ok but dreadful attitude of waiter made it a horrible experience. Better and cheaper options in the area exist.

Excellent food, Excellent service. Only problem is choosing from the menu, it all sounds so good. Will have to go back again.......Update after three visits I have to say the sirloin steak with its texture and flavour surpassed any steak I've had before and I've had a few.

Great food, absolutely beautiful. Seafood was perfectly cooked (expert). Free drinks out of kindness at the end of the meal which was super kind and a lovely gesture he didn't have to do. The chorizo and seafood linguine was outstanding. Would definitely recommend. Fantastic.

I brought my three year old daughter here for a nice meal, The staff were genuinely friendly and very attentive which was appreciated. Lovely atmosphere and food. It was the perfect restaurant to end our great day.

All food was fantastic, good sized portions. My partner had oysters for starters and half lobster for main course. I had choriza infierno for starters and ribeye steak for main course. Although I asked for medium rare, the steak was more medium to well done but was still delicious.

Please do not take any notice of the bad reviews. We have had a brilliant time here this evening. The staff are very attentive and the food was AMAZING. Someone wrote that the restaurant smelled, we have not experienced that at all. This place is a lovely little restaurant and we could not fault anything. We will definitely be coming back.

Wow, what a fantastic restaurant this is. We travelled over from Filey for a night in Scarborough and chose this place to celebrate a birthday. The service was first class, greeted by a very warm and welcoming guy. The food was something else, I had deep fried Brie as a starter and it was impeccable. For main, I had rib eye steak and it was cooked to perfection, all washed down with quality wine. It was absolutely worth the taxi ride from The Bay and would definitely recommend this to anyone considering or reading this review. We are back over on the East Coast later on other year and will definitely be visiting this restaurant again.

Went here tonight early eve with.my husband. We had an absolutely first class meal. The French onion soup was the best we've ever had. I had lamb chops which were cooked perfectly and hubby had chicken Kiev which is the best Kiev we've ever seen. Finished off with ice cream but I was full. Perfect food and the waitress and waiter were so attentive We will be back and I would highly recommend.

Very nice and surprisingly cheap, the Google price reference is deceiving, most of the prices range from £12-30 on average (80% of the menu) with a couple going to £40 and £100. Really nice and well portioned, didn't feel bloated but still felt full enough to not be uncomfortable and I came in quite hungry (I also usually eat a lot). Looking forward to coming back and trying the rest

Decent price, lovely and quiet atmosphere - only two or three other couples here. Staff have great service and the food was amazing.

4 of us ate. 2 x had Mongolian beef/ chicken. Very tasty,small portion for the money. 1 linguine with shell fish, scallop very over cooked,not king prawns as on menu I had salmon on spinach. Potato was undercooked and very dry. Spinach maybe frozen, sloppy and tasteless. Waiter was superb. When we informed the manager she didn't seem to care. Wouldn't return

Absolutely amazing experience, everything was just perfect and the food was just amazing along with hospitality by Manger and great food from the kitchen ,it was just perfect night for us.

Wandering around for a dog friendly place and we found this little gem! Very lovely vibe, soft music and amazing service, especially the tall French guy! So attentive. The food is all so well thought out and delicious. It’s now a must! A very romantic spot.

Exemplary friendly service in a nice venue however the food doesn't match the high ticket price. Spotify playlist (with adverts) didn't match bistro restaurant either.

absolutely lovely little spot for a charming dinner!!! me and my partner were looking for somewhere to have a fancy lobster dinner as a special occasion and found this place! the staff were so funny and friendly, they let us meet our lobster before he was cooked (the lobster's name was manolo (also you don't have to do this haha, we just wanted to)). all the food was INCREDIBLE: the calamari, the lobster platter, the cheesecake dessert - all spectacular! we were even given little palate cleansers between courses, the staff really went the trouble of making this a really special dining experience. this was a year ago by the way, and me and my partner still frequently dream about this meal.

Chicken Kiev to take you back to the good times. DEEEEELICIOUS.

We had a warm welcome from Ellie, who escorted us to our table. The food was excellent, on hot plates , the wine we chose was delicious. It's the first time we have been to this restaurant, but it won't be our last. Many thanks Ellie and staff, see you soon.

The staff were great and very attentive we did have a mishap with a missed meal but that was sorted swiftly with a free large glass of red wine for the person who was missed and overall we had a lovely time

Recently visited Licorella to celebrate a friend’s birthday and had a lovely dining experience. Restaurant has a calm and peaceful ambience and the staff attentive and professional. Our chosen dishes were served hot, excellent presentation and delicious. Would recommend Licorella on York Place and hope you enjoy.

After co Ing to Scarborough for 15 years, What a lovely surprise to discover this great restaurant. Fabulous dinner, attentive service and great atmosphere. 100% recommended.

Went for meal with my wife on NYE. Service was excellent and so was the food. Fresh, juicy king prawns, crab gratinade was lovely too. Shared a paella which was stuffed with fresh seafood. Would definitely go again if I find myself in Scarborough

What a gem of a place, fabulous menu, food amazing, attentive polite staff, only one little criticism, cheese board was a bit sparse for nearly £10 and its sacrilege not to have Stilton on there, I was looking forward to blue cheese and wine and why on earth it was served with a pot of strawberry jam is a complete mystery to me.

Spent ages reading reviews and decided on Licorella to take my partner for his birthday, it was that little bit more special an occasion as it was our first time together for his birthday and we were in Scarborough for a couple of days to celebrate. We had a lovely welcome and a table had been reserved for us in the window which was really nice, drinks were served quickly and our order taken promptly. We shared the charcuterie board for a starter which was really nice and we both ordered Fillet Steak for mains. Although the sizing seemed a bit small on the menu we were happy to pay £30 a head if it was a good cut and well cooked, both ordering medium rare. The mains came and we both thought the steaks looked a little odd in texture but tucked in, my partner instantly didn’t look well. I honestly thought he was going to be sick at the table. He tried his hardest not to have to spit the first mouthful out but he couldn’t swallow it. It was off. Bearing in mind these have both been cut off the same fillet (confirmed by the waiter) there was no way I was eating mine either. After a bit of a disgruntled exchange the waiter agreed to take them away and swap them even though we both insisted we didn’t want another as it had put us both off. Replacements did come but they looked exactly the same, a very odd texture and as the waiter had told us he’d just bought a full fillet that week these had also come from the same piece as the bad meat so neither of us could eat them so were both left hungry. We were offered one drink for myself as an apology and left paying the £120 bill which included £60 worth of mains we didn’t touch. My partner was then up all night poorly. It completely ruined what was meant to be a really special night. We definitely won’t be returning.

Couldn't recommend enough. The comparison between quality of food and cost is brilliant! The staff were so welcoming and attentive. We have already arranged our next meal out here!

We often visit Scarborough but had not eaten at Licorella before. Myself and my husband went for an overnight stay with our little spaniel. We called in on the off chance to see if they were dog friendly. Advised we could take our dog in the downstairs area and so booked a table for dinner. Food was delicious, service was excellent and very efficient. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere and staff made us feel very welcome. Will definitely be back!! 😊

Late lunch (3pm) on a cold Sunday afternoon in need of a bit of cheering up! Being the only people in here at that point, we had superlative service, with th e fabulous chef taking our order, cooking within sight& delivering beautiful homemade rosemary focaccia bread, tapenade, chorizo, lamb chops & a fabulous fillet of sole with capers & almonds. Beautiful potato "stack" & vegetables, & a lovely bottle of white Rioja. Felt so much better for the experience - thank you. Will be back! Great menu choices indeed X

Top Quality cuisine in the centre of Scarborough Excellent service

This chef can COOK! Beautiful meal from start to finish. Freshly cooked food throughout! Fillet cooked to perfection and the lobster was out of this world! Desserts were 10/10 too! Front of house staff were attentive and so welcoming, chef even came out to chat too. Would highly recommend and feel like this is a hidden gem!

Without doubt the best surf and turf I’ve ever had. The steak was cooked exactly as I asked and was seasoned beautifully and the lobster was so sweet and juicey. My partner really enjoyed his sea bass too. The wine was lovely and the service was excellent. Already recommended this place to my in-laws and we will definitely be returning next time we are in Scarborough.

Visited on a quiet night so can’t really judge the service on anything other than the waitress was friendly , pleasant and for the kitchen the food came out promptly and hot. The food was decent quality, my wife’s special was Sole stuffed with prawns, the fish was fresh and very tasty. Prices are on par and I would visit again to try some other good selections on the menu.

We really enjoyed our meal. Everything cooked to perfection, one steak medium rare and the other beef medium. The cocktails were really nice too and no issues with stock which we have found elsewhere, (not in Scarborough) . Excellent service but also a friendly family run feel to the restaurant. Would definitely go back again.
