Lovely place to visit for a coffee. Run by cheerful volunteers . Very reasonable prices and always some interesting local art work to appreciate. An excellent community run enterprise.

Excellent service and great food. We were a table of 6 we a newborn baby and Chris couldn’t have done more to make sure we were ok. He put us in a quiet room on our own and checked in on us throughout our meal. The food itself was really good, one of the best meals we’ve had out in a while!

We visited The Nelson Inn yesterday afternoon around 4.30pm for an impromptu dinner with our 2.5 year old. Called up about an hour before and booked a table. The staff were exceptionally lovely, especially the lady who served us (sorry didn’t catch her name). She was attentive and friendly. We ordered a mixed grill, rump steak and a children’s sausage and chips. All were really great! My son and I then shared a pudding which was also lovely. Our main reason for the visit was that we could see there was a small play area. I’d say that the beer garden is the best part about the pub. Lots of tiered seating with a small climbing frame with slide at the top. There was also a huge field with two football nets so it was the perfect play for our son to run around while we waited for food. We are currently on holiday here but will definitely be revisiting when we visit next time. Thank you!

Stayed with a friend who I was walking Hadrians Wall with. Great place - nice staff lovely evening meal, good local beer and wonderful breakfast. Importantly, an effective, polite, well considered and low key approach to Covid - so refreshing after some really weirdly experiences elsewhere on the walk!

We were a family of 10 adults and a couple of 5 yr olds. The private dining room was ideal. The food of divers dishes was first class. Our server Amy did splendidly and contended with a somewhat chaotic party with admirable professionalism. The whole experience contributed to making this special day very enjoyable. Recommended .Thank you.

We at Sunday lunch at The Plough. The roast beef was absolutely gorgeous and it came with all of the extras. The vegetables were delicious and plentiful. The pudding was also delicious, I had the salted caramel and chocolate tart. The service was good and the girls were very pleasant. My only gripe would be we weren't given a fork to eat our sweet with and the plate given to me was very small, it was difficult to eat given the size of the plate. Also no finesse re the presentation of the puddings. No icing sugar or a sprig of mint, nothing. My friend had the icecream and it was served in a white pudding bowl. That said we would return as the main was delicious.

Lovely lunchtime meals. They are great value either side of £10 each. We really enjoyed them. Excellent wine list. Michelle, Eddie and Ash looked after us well. We have been before a fair few times, and we will be back again from time to time! 🙂👍
