Fantastic food, best fillet steak I've ever tasted. They do wagyu for the affluent (£69 per person) as well as the usual sirloin, rump, rib eye etc. Fillet was £35 . Lovely location, nice open fire, really relaxing. Great selection of wines. I would definitely recommend it.

Table was booked for six but not seated until well after 6 after leaving us waiting outside No drinks orders were taken or even asked if were needed until food orders were eventually taken.. food took almost an hour to come out while other tables around us were served first, plates for a table of 9 were brought out 1 by 1 leaving people waiting 20 minutes before bringing the side dishes to go with their mains so the mains had to be sent back cold, by the time the final meal was brought out the first meals brought out had been sat down for 15 minutes and cold, once this issue was raised with the staff they were very unproffesional and impolite about it to which we were given an attitude and a roll of the eyes from one of the male waiters, the kids meals were brought out last after multiple prompts asking where the food was, poor poor service and very poor management and staff structure will not be returning and we once were a regular weekly visitor

Poor quality food. Over cooked chicken wings for instance were actually served to us black they were cooked so much. Serving staff seemed embarrassed about it. Canteen type atmosphere in the restaurant, no subdued lighting, no music. Seems to be relying on past reputation, now overpriced to what's available elsewhere.

Brilliant food and service, my wife has an allergy to egg and they were fantastic with ensuring this was taken seriously. No issues with waiting for service in-between courses for drinks despite being sat outside. The food was so good, 10/10 visit.

13 of us went for a bottomless brunch for my birthday on Saturday, the service was appalling, we had to wait 20-30 mins to get a drink when they weren’t very busy, as it was only afternoon, we were told we had to slow down and that they couldn’t serve us anymore as we had to start ordering 2 at a time they were that slow, we got told to be quiet by the same girl who said no more drinks for us, can’t remember her name short girl with brown hair clearly didn’t like us, we were up a corner doing no harm to anyone just simply laughing and joking as friends do, the food wasn’t bad, if you are at a bottomless the whole point is the drinks are bottomless and keep flowing, not here you defiantly couldn’t get drunk, shame as it could of led to us staying and spending more, wouldn’t go again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone

Lovely restaurant, beautiful setting, great atmosphere with good quality food

Excellent overall experience at this restaurant. Firstly the food was exceptionally good, with so much choice on the menu, a little bit pricey but you get what you pay for and our meals were certainly worth it. The kitchen is visible when you walk past to the bar/toilets and it was spotless. Staff were very friendly and efficient only slight criticism the website offers lunch time special prices for 3 courses and there was no mention of this when given the menus. Decor is lovely, large garden areas from and back with plenty of seating for warmer weather. Plus a play area in the back garden area. The front does get quite a lot of noise from the A38, which is a shame as the pub is surrounded by countryside.

Beautiful place didn't eat there because I doubt it's halal. Saw it from outside was lovely and the music inside was calming. My mate enjoyed a nice meal with his partner.

Was in the area for work and decided to come here for dinner. It was very quiet, but it was a Tuesday at 5:30pm. The food was a pleasant surprise! Even the grilled vine tomatoes and sautéed greens were fantastic.

Paid top money only to receive burnt chicken wings complained to manager.she said i will see what the kitchen say. Over all tbe rest of the food was really good.first came here about 10 years ago and it was good then but very busy now that might be the burnt chicken wings over 100 pound spent expected better dave

" Staffordshire's premier Steakhouse" that doesn't have any steak. They hadn't any fillet left at 2pm on a Sunday. So very disappointed. We went for a birthday treat to be told they sold out of the one thing we went for. Told by the manager Sarah that it is a fresh food restaurant so they can't garunantee everything on the menu would be available. Well poor management I would say. 2pm on a Sunday, think of all the disappointed customer by the end of the day. If it was up to me we would have left and they would have lost our custom. No offer of a discount or an apology but Sarah said we could "splash out" on the £69 Wagu Fillet. I will never return.

This place has got really good reputation but when I have been in don't get it i would not recommend bottomless brunch they monitor your drinks every 5 minutes i never even had glass proceco as don't drink fast not worth the money ,expensive ,staff coming over every 5 mins rushed no where to go after packed no sitting if your not eating not enjoyable experience I won't be rushing to go back you get better service in weatherspoons!

Booked a table for 8.30. Arrived at 8 for a pre drink. Had to ask about our table at 8.45 and we're told the previous people were just leaving. We finally sat down and ordered at 8.50. Our food finally arrived at 9.45! We were actually just about to leave as it arrived. No apology or explanation given for the delay. Which was a shame as the food was very good. Staff were very friendly but it's not really acceptable to be starting you meal an hour and 15 mins after your booking. We would have had coffee but couldn't be sure how long we would have to wait as it was quite late in the evening by then so unfortunately won't be back.

1st time here today, super happy. A busy, well managed restaurant and pub. Amazing food, frankly enjoyed my than the Larder in town. Great staff and good wine. Will definitely go back.

Myself and family spent New yrs eve at this fantastic bar and restaurant. The food was excellent and the portions were not on the skinny side either. The service was great and the atmosphere warm and friendly. A goodnight out for all the family, we will definitely be back 👌

Service was terrible!!! Long wait between meals when the restaurant wasn’t even busy. Food overpriced for the quality of the food that you get, not very tasty at all two people out of the 8 of us that ate left most of their meal on the plate, we went there for a big birthday and had to call the staff 3 times after the mains to bring through the cake that had been brought by us to the restaurant as something to be brought out as a surprise after the mains. Altogether was not a great experience at all and won’t be returning, which is a pity as it’s a beautiful restaurant and definitely use to be run better as we have been a few times before this.

Food was excellent. Family of 4 visited for a Sunday carvery. Very attentive and friendly staff. Only gripe was that we all wished we had more of the excellent cooked meat. Very tasty as were the puddings. Would recommend.

We had a table for 13 booked with you for lunch time. Thank you all so much for taking great care of our table on Friday. We enjoyed a wonderful meal celebrating our wedding with our family and friends. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was great too. We were made to feel extremely special and we can't thank you enough. Everyone commented on the quality and presentation of the meals. The steak was so tasty.

We were looking for a Dog Friendly place to eat and we absolutely hit the Jackpot with the aTrooper! Rudy our Boxer was made to feel like a fully paying guest.The food then sealed the deal with everything cooked perfectly the Ham egg and chips was amazing A heart felt thank you to all the staff on that night….We will return

Had a great afternoon meal here with family, staff catered to us amazingly and had our one year old high chair set up, brought her meal out first and kept her busy with colouring book and pens. Food was amazing and priced fairly! All the staff were attentive and couldn’t do enough for us! Will be coming back as the boys in the group could have stayed all day and ate one of everything!

The food was excellent and all the staff went above and beyond to look after us. A special well done to ‘TJ’ one of our waiting staff. 10/10 Sunday lunch, we ate in the bar area as we had our 2 pugs with us, lovely decor and atmosphere, car park was packed so make sure you book. I had the rare sirloin Sunday lunch which was perfect and my partner had the trio of meets, make sure to go for the cauli cheese too. Possibly our new favourite Sunday lunch haunt.

A nice local pub to meet friends and family for a catch up. The food was pretty good and I enjoyed the lamb kebab in naan.

Been here before and it was lovely. Yesterday went and had seafood tagliatelle and my girlfriend had chicken skewers. My tagliatelle tasted like oil and pasta, not much else flavour wise, and my tagliatelle was soggy and the prawns were not all evenly cooked. My girlfriend’s skewers tasted as if they were sprinkled with oregano and were very dry. Quite sad really, used to like this place. Feel like the kitchen doesn’t actually care about how the food tastes, not much flavour at all. Starters were ok, but I’m guessing the cheese did all the work.

Came last night for my 65th birthday with my family we arrived on time that we booked for 6.30 we didn't get seated till 6.55. We had prebooked our meals and was still waiting for our food at 7.30 most of the food was lovely my daughter had fries with hers as did my grandson and the majority of them tasted terrible I tried one and it left a nasty tangy taste we told the lady who served us she spoke to chef who told us there was nothing wrong with them she just laughed it of in front of us we spent a lot of money in there pub and restaurant and I thought we were treated like we were lying about how they tasted. had a lovely time other than that never had a problem before and we have been several times for special birthdays.

First impressions not good. We were a party of 6 visiting for the first time. When we walked in we all felt awkward. Staff members ignoring us and walking past us. It was the barman who asked us if we were ok and if we had a table booked. He came from behind the bar to speak to the staff. Well done him. Food is excellent but small portions. Starters are expensive but mains reasonably priced. The restaurant area is very loud, not somewhere I would choose to go for a quiet meal but no problem as a big group. I would visit again but my wife wouldnt because of the staff.

Absolutely great meal and very good service. I had the mixed grill which was excellent. The 3 cheese board was a disappointment however. 3 small pieces with no soft or blue. The large supply of crackers needed some butter.

visited the trooper for my dads birthday and the food was incredible, food arrived fairly quickly and Connie looked after us amazingly. we even had a birthday plate for my dad as other staff sang happy birthday. overall was a really lovely day out.

Had a bottomless brunch here yesterday to celebrate my 40th. Food and drinks were lovely. Sarah made us feel welcome from start to finish. Our glasses were never empty.

Last night of our holiday, accomodated a party of nime, very pleasant staff (advice was spot on regarding food choices).. steak was perfect, puddings great.. all round cracking night..

Everything was great, however prices vs dish sizes were disappointing. Staff were attentive and atmosphere was good, if a little loud but hen parties are :) We will go back but not if we are hungry, mixed grill was lovely and deserts tasty.

First time here and have to say our party of 7 was disappointed, we waited over 1hr for our food and when it came it wasn't great, pork belly was dry and the lamb and chicken skewers could have been eating them from a weatherspoons they were below average...not good considering the bill was nearly £200..

The food was great, however we waited an absolute age for it. We had a table booked at 1915 but didn't get sat down until 1950! Then when we did get sat down, it took about 20 minutes for our food and drinks order to be taken, and then over another hour for it to arrive. We only had 2 mains so nothing major. It's a good job the food was nice, but we didn't stay for pudding as we didn't want to be waiting another hour.

Reserved at 7pm on a Saturday night (10/08) for dinner and drinks, food and drinks were ok throughout the duration of dinner service, however at 10.15 - after settling our bill we approached the bar to ask if we could order a last drink, as advised online the restaurant is open until 11pm, we assumed this would be a reasonable request - all members of staff were sat down drinking next to the bar and advised us the bar had closed ‘15 minutes ago’ - our disappointed reaction to this unprofessional response left us feeling uncomfortable and so we left. Whilst waiting for a taxi to leave we heard staff members making comments about us, swearing and laughing as if - as customers - are burdening their drinking/ home time.. within their opening hours. Pretty shambolic, won’t be returning.

When we arrived, our table wasn't ready which was not a problem - we had some drinks. When we were sat at the table we were informed there is a 45 min wait for the mains. If it wasn't for the fact it was Sunday, we would have gone somewhere else but decided to stay. We ordered two steaks: one medium, one medium rare. They both looked medium when they arrived. Not a nice cut of meat - tough like the sole of a shoe. The skin on chips had lots of black bits and eyes (we get the 'skin on' but they should remove nasty bits). We thought we would try a dessert - cheesecake. The cheesecake had more cream than cheese in it and was tasteless. The fruit on top made it edible. The lovely, very polite and apologetic waitress said her supervisor would come to speak to us. Nobody came. She did take the desserts off our bill, but it still wasn't worth the price tbh.

Service and food both second to none! Amazing setting and we look forward to returning soon. Would have no problem strongly recommending your restaurant and would encourage people to come and try for themselves. Thanks for a lovely meal and a friendly service.

Booked in for an anniversary meal and we couldn't get out of there fast enough.Starter didn't have the advertised ingredients in the meal.Never mind these things happen.Main course and additional sides ordered.Servers were asked where the side order was,then another staff member came over and asked what was missing.So 10 minute wait for the side order while our main meal is sitting on the table.Then we start eating for the beef dripping is congealed and looks like wall paper paste.Servers asking if everything is OK with the meal and you tell them and nothing done.Also the pork in the mixed grill was so salty that it was left.Got the bill and paid it and nobody came over to see what the issue was.Management were informed as we left and we would not go back there.Young staff need training and when they constantly ask if everything is OK and you tell them no,they don't know what to do.Worst meal I've had in many many years

We dined as a table of 16 pre-ordered our food before arriving and the food came out quickly everyone was more satisfied with their meals, fantastic welcome, brilliant service and superb food. Looking to book again. Highly recommend

Tables not very good for a large party and we felt like we had been squeezed in. All the food was correct apart from 1 not sure why but soon replaced. Wouldn’t recommend for a large group.

She goes above and beyond to serve and satisfy every visit. I brought my girlfriends yesterday and it was noticed how well she kept our table even when other members of staff were waiting on us. she makes the visit worth while 😊':

Went today with the family including a toddler. When we where seated almost all the tables where full of young drunk girls who were all screaming and shouting. According to the waitress we had they were all the bottomless lunch customers. Bottomless lunch is 12-4 our table was booked at 5.30. We literally had to shout at the waitress so she could hear our order, My toddler was not happy as it was far too loud. Even though we rang and asked if it was ok to bring a child its not a child froendly place. I won't be returning for this reason. The services was OK however we were rushed like no business 5 mins after we were sat we were asked to order food we hadn't even recieved our drinks! Then had to wait a good 20mins to order pudding as the bottomless lunch drunk girls had smashed glasses causing 4 waitress to clean the area leaving all other customers waiting. Overall wasn't happy with the experience 😕

Stopped here for a quick meal. I was on my own and although they were fully booked the young lady on front of house gave me a table and explained there may be a bit of a wait due to the kitchen being very busy. The wait wasn’t as long as expected approximately 15 minutes. I had a rump steak which was cooked medium rare as ordered and very tender and tasty. Chunky chips could have been slightly hotter and the green veg was just broccoli so would have been nicer to have had a small selection. Overall a good meal and friendly service

Bit of a hit and miss evening. We were a party of three adults and two kids aged 2 and 4. Parking a bit tight and limited but we managed two parking spaces on an early Saturday evening. We arrived and were seated straight away. Staff quickly came for our drinks order and followed not long after for our food order. Kids meals were perfect and delicious according to them and us from the little bits we stole. Big portions. We had two medium ribeye steaks. The medium was lovely but came with the wrong sauce which we didn’t realise until it was too late. The medium rare was cooked medium and mostly very tasty, but in some places it didn’t taste quite right. It also came with the wrong sauce but we noticed because of the first one and staff were able to change it. Not wanting to make a fuss we didn’t ask for the first one to be changed but it did mean it wasn’t quite so enjoyable. The skewers were very tasty and the flat bread that comes with it was great. Some chips were over seasoned and some under but everything was hot. Puddings were lovely but we were a bit surprised that the kids brownie was basically an adults one but cut in half. The adults menu said it was a salted caramel brownie but the kids didn’t. Luckily they didn’t mind but we felt it should be advertised on the menu as exactly what it is as we expected a plain brownie. The place is quite noisy and the bar area gets busy which is annoying when you have to fight to get through to go to the toilet. Would go again.

It is such a lovely place in a beautiful village. The food was amazing, and the service was great even though it was a busy Sunday afternoon. I had scotch egg to start and a triple meat roast dinner. It was delicious. Even the coffee was good!

Perfect if you want to spend 35 minutes waiting for a drink to then watch them attempt to deliver it to another table, after you've enquired where the drink has got to. There were only 7 internal tables with visitors, and the staff seemed to be split between outside seating and inside seating. We were shown to an inside table at 2pm. With the level of service, we only had a main course and didn't get out until 4 pm. The food is very good, the service is the worst I've encountered. Maybe if you visit when it's busy, there might be someone organising the staff of whom there appeared to be many. I shall not be visiting again. There was a nice advertisement for a 'sister' venue, so that's another place I'll never visit.
