Would 100% recommend this place!! We went for Sunday Roast and it was beautiful. Our server Jess was lovely and helpful and the manager Sarah was just as lovely! The atmosphere and the service was 10/10.

It is such a lovely place in a beautiful village. The food was amazing, and the service was great even though it was a busy Sunday afternoon. I had scotch egg to start and a triple meat roast dinner. It was delicious. Even the coffee was good!

Loved the food and the service. The most tender chicken and pork. Drinks are yummy too! Recommend the cocktails!

Perfect if you want to spend 35 minutes waiting for a drink to then watch them attempt to deliver it to another table, after you've enquired where the drink has got to. There were only 7 internal tables with visitors, and the staff seemed to be split between outside seating and inside seating. We were shown to an inside table at 2pm. With the level of service, we only had a main course and didn't get out until 4 pm. The food is very good, the service is the worst I've encountered. Maybe if you visit when it's busy, there might be someone organising the staff of whom there appeared to be many. I shall not be visiting again. There was a nice advertisement for a 'sister' venue, so that's another place I'll never visit.

Recently had a bottomless lunch. Food was fantastic, I particularly enjoyed the pork belly and steak, drinks were lovely! Good value for money.

Been here tonight with my family to celebrate my birthday. Had a couple of issues but the manager rectified these swiftly. The food was beautiful and the steaks were cooked to perfection. A lovely location and the bar area is really nice.

Lovely pub. Very clean and tidy. Staff always friendly. Think this is my third visit over the last year when away for work. Had the chicken wings for starter and rump for main. Will definitely visit again when up this way

Beautiful pub/restaurant with great beer and wonderful food. The service was great and the staff were brilliant. We had one family member who was ill and they were very helpful with keeping food hot, without it spoiling. We will definitely go again.

Went to the trooper today for a 60th party for my mom. Large party of 12 guests. Pros; Staff friendly and accommodating. Nice environment. Cons; Very disorganised service - long waits between orders/service/table clearance etc Very excessive waits for food and drinks. Food expensive for what it was. Overall; Would recommend the trooper but they really need to look at their service delivery and prices.

Rude staff, really bad attitude of one lady called Kirsty who appeared to be in charge of an area. We were spoken to by her very rudely on two occasions, firstly to say we had two hours from our first drink and needed to order our food as we were 20 minutes in. We had only just received our menus that she was meant to bring us when she seated us. She then returned at the end and said we were 45 minutes over which we weren’t (we were about 15 minutes over the two hours from our first drink) but we were waiting for our drinks that had been ordered in our time slot over 25 minutes previous. She refused for our last drinks to be brought out, although we had waited a long time between ordering drinks when our glasses were empty and receiving them. Our main waiter Millie was friendly and helpful. The steak was over cooked, but was changed promptly by our waitress with no issues. No sauces brought out so had to ask for these for a second time. Overall we were happy with our food. My friend did go over and speak to another lady about this situation and about the way we were spoken to, and we did receive our last drinks. At the end we had moved to the bar area to finish our drinks and were basically given our receipt and told they needed the table. The gentleman returned a minute later with the card reader. Again this felt really rude, we paid the bill straight away and were told again they need the table. The gentleman could have offered for us to move to the bar stools which were free but didn’t. I have visited The Trooper numerous times and have never had a complaint or been treated or spoken to in such manner. The attitude of the staff today really ruined a well needed catch up. Would not recommend, many of your staff seem unhappy and it’s not surprising with the attitude of those who appear in charge. Your staff would benefit from some communication skills training.

Popped in for a lunchtime munch with our niece. All of our meals were super tasty, wonderful flavours and great portions. Staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Can't wait to return and try other menu options. Absolutely love the decor and the chilled atmosphere, great for a bite to eat away from noisy town pubs and restaurants.

It was our first time at the trooper and we will definitely return. After being seated my husband noticed a draft coming from the window and we asked to move table. It was not a problem, we were reseated further along the seating bunks and the issue was was resolved. The food was delicious and service was very good. Lunch flowed really well. We weren't rushed and we didn't have to wait ages between courses either. The two young men who served us were very pleasant and knowledgeable. My husband had the speckled hen and said his pint was very good. I was driving so just had pop. We thought the price was good, as the food was not just your everyday pub grub. It was delicious. Very nice menu. We look forward to eating there again.

Went there today as a party of 6.... Service was dire, waiter corked an expensive bottle of wine, waitress dropped dirty cutlery on my partner's dress.....table service was hit and miss...food was good tho, then after an hour we were asked to leave the table because of another booking, the only table available was by the door which was freezing....over all VERY poor in my honest opinion. We won't be returning in a hurry that's for sure.

Visited this place last week and what a horrible place!! Manager is absolutely rude and obnoxious to other staff whom I'm presuming she is supposed to be training for the future job. No absolute need for rudeness! I wasn't overly impressed with the meal the price definitely doesn't outweigh the quality of the food. Drinks are very overpriced. First time visiting as we passed through the village and definitely the last. The owners need to clamp down on this place to see what's going on with future staff as they're rude to trainees so no wonder they constantly advertise for staff. Open your eyes to the place owners!! I'd definitely not recommend the place for food or atmosphere. 😡

Popped in without booking after walking at Cannock Chase, was found a table although it was very busy and had a delicious Sunday roast. The staff couldn't have been more friendly. Have recommended it already to family.

Came with the in laws and we all thought it was very good. We will definitely be coming back.

Booked for my husbands birthday however we ended up in a and e and hour and half before our booking, explained this over the phone and they still charged me £30, it may be in the t and c's but that does not make it acceptable/justified in my situation. As a result of this I will never go here again, additionally to this one of the booked seats was for a baby which they still charged £10 for.

Nice pub. Food was great. However, I had a steak medium rare. Was medium. And wasn’t anything special. Other than that, the other food was great. Couldn’t fault the rest. The service for drinks is however appalling. Waited 20 minutes for our first order of drinks. I could have easier spent another £50 on drink orders, but with that wait time I thought why bother. Wasn’t particularly busy either. Shame really. Would have been five stars and could have excused the steak not being amazing. Can’t excuse poor service in an establishment like that.

Food was incredible, best med-rare rump steak I've ever had. But even though it was at about 50% capacity, it felt too loud and could feel a bit overwhelming, making it hard to hear the people sitting just across from you. Friendly service but slow at times.

We have had an amazing experience nothing was too much trouble. Alfie was extremely helpful and Sarah couldn’t do enough to make our experience memorable )) we had come to your establishment for a birthday celebration and it did not disappoint.

Lunch with Family and their dogs on Saturday. First visit to The Trooper but it had been recommended. On a cold day it was welcoming with log fires and friendly staff. The food was excellent, service could not be faulted. Our waiter Jaydon was great. Will certainly visit again.

We were asked to order drinks at the bar whilst waiting for our table to be ready, no issue there. Escorted to our table and left for about 15 minutes before anyone came over. Once a gentleman had come over to ask if we needed any drinks (the same gentleman who had asked us to get drinks at the bar) we responded no, and he walked off. Leaving us for another 15 minutes to come over and order the food. We asked for water, none was brought during our whole stay. The starters (soup and mushrooms) were lovely. Very impressed with those. We ordered 2 medium rare steaks. Came out as medium with charred bits on. Skin on fries were cold and tasted awful. My partner ordered onion rings as a side which were oily and barely had any onion in. No one came near our table the whole time we had our mains so we were unable to raise concerns without tracking down a member of staff. Finally when he came to clear the plates we expressed our dissatisfaction with the steak and he responded “I’ll have a word with the chef”. Bit late now really isn’t it? Finally after going to ask for the bill, we received it and were able to pay a whole 15 minutes later. Would also like to add it was 8:45 we arrived and it didn’t seem particularly busy in the restaurant. Whole time we were seated to eat, we received minimum service. We’ve been a couple times before and received excellent service and lovely food. Major let down this evening.

Had a bottomless lunch here yesterday with 5 friends. The service, atmosphere, cocktails & most importantly the food, were 10/10. We had a great few hours here …. Sarah looked after us so well & even sang happy birthday to me ❤️ I love the trooper , Iv visited lots over the years , never been disappointed or had a bad meal. All the staff are polite and friendly too. 10/10 guys. Thank you x

Booked as a birthday meal. Arrival at 4pm Saturday not realising it was full of women on bottomless brunch. Noise was unbearable 😫 decided to stay as little choice to go elsewhere. Ordered two filler steaks medium mine was tough and overcooked znd so salty I could not eat it. No assistance from waiting staff. Thoroughly ruined my birthday:(

Went for lunch. Very cold in restaurant. Lamb skewers were so tough, unable to cut with a knife or eat them. Peas were cold. Used to be a lot better. Will not go again to eat.

We booked for Christmas day at the trooper in Wall, after seeing their menu, for £100 per head it looked good, how wrong we were!.We arrived at the given time of 2.00pm, and were expecting a welcome drink in line with the menu, what we got was ignored. The restaurant was full, with guests just finishing a 12.00 sitting. There was a lot of staff stood around talking, but no one acknowledged us so we sat down and waited. After some 10 minutes I approached a staff member to book in, and I was told to wait as our table was not ready. This we did. Some 15 minutes later we got taken to a table , and as we sat down we were served with 4 small pieces of bread, some packets of butter and some oil. Not the selection of olives , bread and oils as advertised, just like the no show welcome drink , also as advertised. We had no side plates of bread knives, so waited for a staff member to pass us, but just then out came our starters, luke warm soup, and some basic cold starters, not a great start to our Christmas day meal. When staff came to clear away we requested a break as we felt very rushed, but some 10-15 minutes later out came the mains.All 4 mains had stone cold sprouts, literally out of the fridge, no selection of vegetables, just a carrot and a parsnip, no cranberry sauce and no gravy .The meals were poor, more like a cafe offering, not a Christmas day event. The waiter brought us more sprouts, however the cold ones remained on our plates ! The staff were plenty, but all cleaning tables for the next intake of guests, and not concentrating on the guests they already had, virtually no drinks service . We were offered no sauces, or extras, or asked if we were happy. When the food was cleared, out came the desserts almost immediately. The advertised sticky toffee pudding had no dates in and was a plain sponge covered in cold custard, and the cheese board was the worst we had ever seen, it should never have left the kitchen !! Green and orange cheese, not the selection advertised, cheddar, and stilton, no butter, 6 grapes and 4 biscuits. We sent it straight back, and requested the advertised cheese selection. We were informed that they had run out !! it was 3.30pm ? After this we left, very disappointed indeed , our Christmas day meal a disaster. There had been no menu as advertised, no atmosphere and no service, although there was a lot of staff hanging around chatting. I have complained to the trooper via email and calls. Whist the staff at the restaurant have tried to settle our complaint , head office have completely ignored our emails, and we have now chosen to take court action as no one is listening to us. Very poor customer service indeed. We have dined at the Trooper many times before , and twice on Christmas day before now, it has always been good, not sure why it has gone down hill so much now, but if head office is anything to go by I can see why !!

Last night was the 3rd time visiting in the last 4months. And again didn't disappoint! Previously an anniversary lunch date and our 12 year old daughter's birthday- last night was bottomless brunch for 6 for a friend's 40th birthday and the food was incredible; from the starter through to the dessert. Well done to the chef for cooking 6 steaks all requested being cooked differently and all being perfect. The waiting on staff kept the drinks flowing on request and we're friendly and welcoming. After our meal we moved to the bar and bagged a table in front of the fire and honestly didn't realise where the time disappeared too. I told my husband I'd easily be home for 9pm but rocked home at 11.45pm. Thank you to all working last night.

What is an appropriate tip on a £450 Christmas dinner? Because the food wasn't great: I had the beef and i thought they'd be thick slices, no, they reminded me of the kind you'd have with school dinner; and the service wasn't great. It wasn't awful, they just didn't do anything. We've had christmas dinner there before and it was great. I don't know if there's been a change in the kitchen, or in the management but sadly we wont be going back. So back to the original question. What is an appropriate tip on a £450 meal? Because given the issues we chose £0 and the waitress made no secret of the fact she was offeneded by this. All in it was very sad that a great venue is being allowed to go to ruin.

Visited here just before christmas,there was four of us who had booked a table when we went to order there was 3 that wanted a festive menu and one that wanted to order off normal menu but was told we couldnt do that id have to have festive menu too which was abit of a let down food was ok but nothing to shout about

4 of us went for a lovely meal here. One veggie who had halloumi, 2 gammon meals & one steak. We all enjoyed our meals & rounded off with coffee & a pudding.

We came for Sunday dinner yesterday and even though a few of our party were late we never felt like we were being rushed. We never got the name of our server but he looked after us really well. Most of us had a Sunday roast, everyone said their food was really nice. My rare sirloin of beef was perfectly cooked and all the trimmings were top class too. I tried some of my partners chicken and that was succulent and juicy too. Overall really impressed, a bit on the high side price wise but the food worth it. Also had some of the best guinness around Lichfield. Many thanks for a lovely evening and merry Christmas

Visited yesterday on a works do, bar staff were very friendly, nice atmosphere, table service and food was great the servers and the manager were really great and had a fun manner with the customers would definitely recommend and I will come back!

Absolutely fantastic evening. The Sunday before Christmas and the team made sure we had a cracking night, despite me booking for 2 and needing 7 they were able to accommodate us. Food - excellent, good selection and great quality. Hats off to the chefs. Fish and chips were a highlight - you’ll definitely want to eat it all :-) Service - amazing. We didn’t want for anything. Really looked after us and were able to have a laugh and joke with them. Big shout out to Jay who was brilliant and Kirsty who was awesome. You guys made the night. Our first time here but will absolutely be making it a regular location. Much love x

Food is very nice and the wait staff are lovely. However, it does take a while for drinks to arrive at the table, especially if you are part of the bottomless brunch package.

Excellent food at reasonable prices

If you have a big vehicle such as a truck beware parking is very tight, the trooper is a great looking and smelling pub .. we have had better food here before wasn't overly impressed with the belly pork this time it was a bit overdone for my liking.

Decent foods and atmosphere, I love it and will visit again definitely. Staff are helpful too . Thank you

On the surface it’s very nice , but the staff are not really interested in your comments and the food not as good as I thought it would be for the cost. The wild mushrooms should be avoided as I had a violent reaction after the meal and think this was the mushrooms.

Thank you, we loved the meal. I couldn't fault anything, the staff were brilliant and facilitated our 6month old and his steak. Our little man dressed as a peaky blinder - manager's name for him, honestly was so settled. The manager that was on shift and the staff couldn't do enough, and made the night for my cousins wedding meal fantastic. If this does get picked up please pass our compliments on to the front of house staff, and inform the back of house staff the food was brilliant. Thank you

Fourth visit as its equa distance for friends to meet up. Had a refurb recently and clearly portion sizes have been halved to pay for it. One Thai Fish cake no bigger than a chicken nugget on a teaspoon full of "salad" . Chicken burger containing more lettuce tomato & onion than buttermilk battered chicken. Sticky cubes of pork that probably cost more to cook than the ingredients cost. A rare steak too thin to ever be cooked rare. Very disappointed and will not be back. Only two tables of two were occupied for our entire 2.5 hour visit .... that speaks volumes. Few customers in having just drinks.

The Trooper is a fantastic dining destination. Went there after a day out with the kids. The ambiance is inviting and laid-back, making it a great place to unwind. The food is not only delicious but also served promptly. The staff is both professional and accommodating, ensuring that your dining experience is top-notch. You won't have to wait long for your meal, and their attentive service adds to the overall satisfaction.

Great steak. Food came out in good time almost as quick as the drinks were poured. Well priced to for the amount and quality of the food. Service was spot on, staff were friendly and helpful. Only gripe we had was that we were seated by a fire exit where people were constantly coming in and out from and the cold wind that hit us every time the door got opened wasn't the best as we were trying to eat. Other than that it was perfect. Will be returning one day.

This venue accommodated 17 of us within a 3 day notice (a prior venue had to close their business) so at last minute I spoke to Jack over at The Wine House in Lichfield and he said they could fit us in at The Trooper, I had heard good things but never been. I was so happy they could fit us in at last minute notice. We gave our pre-orders which really helped, the service was slick, friendly and so helpful, they let us split the orders on separate receipts so our party could pay for own meals. The food was delicious, everyone commented on how much they enjoyed their food. We personally want to go back again next month for a date night. Atmosphere was so cosy, liv burners were on, music was nice, just really lovely posh pub environment. Thank you for making our special occasion so much more special. Xxx

6 of us booked for a meal. 3 meals were mixed up having the wrong steakes on the plates & the place was freezing. Even the waitresses were dithering. But the food was nice once sorted & service was good. A lot of young people there, not very family orientated.

I had a beef teriyaki starter and a Tuna steak main 25 minutes later, I experienced vomiting and diarrhoea until the early hours of this morning.

Updated review (previously 5 star). Seems they have had a menu/management change. I used to enjoy eating here but I had to wait a long time for my drinks, then an hour for starters. It was explained that one of our starters had been dropped in the kitchen so they had to start over, but I just wasn't feeling great about the place. I had a roast dinner and to be honest the only good element was the meat. The Yorkshire puddings were dry as prawn crackers, the veg was raw and the roasties were so overcooked I couldn't cut through them. Staff did apologize a few times for the wait but I just don't think it was busy enough to warrant it. Probably won't be back.

After being let down by another establishment, we called The Trooper and they were fantastic, they got us straight away for the bottomless brunch. The service was absolutely brilliant as was the staff especially Sarah and Kirsty they were brilliant and funny!!! Food was excellent as always and fantastic value for money!! I would highly recommend this place, thank you for pulling it out the bag for us we had the best time!!

Called to cancel a booking due to my friends daughter being very ill. I was still charged a £20 cancellation fee despite explaining the situation and despite the booking only reserved for two people. I won’t be visiting the trooper again

Amazing food and lovely staff. We sat outside on the terrace, it was lovely. Anniversary amazingly spent.

It was a very hot day but we still decided on a roast, didn't disappoint and neither did the very generous portion of bread & butter pud! Service was very friendly but a little disorganised and slow, we had to ask for drinks and then the wrong drink came - it didn't spoil anything though. It's a lovely venue for a meet up with friends, though we might choose a quieter day in future. Have recommended to friends already.

Nice pub and lovely staff but unfortunately the food does not live up to expectations. Two of us sent our food back (ordered one steak rare and it came well done & the other fillet steak full of fat and sinew). The second steak I received was overcooked again! From experience probably wouldn't advise ordering any of the steaks - I'm told they are hit and miss but for the price they charge it's not worth the risk ! That being said the staff were attentive and polite but probably won't be returning

Perfect impromptu lunch today at the trooper. Great hospitality and service, delicious menu, steak cooked to perfection, my husband had a Thai tuna curry which he enjoyed. It is only our second visit here, the first bring years ago with the kids. Nice modern but classy vibe. Would recommend. Thankyou

Visited on Saturday 5th August 23, for a 30th birthday meal. Our party of 6 ranged in age from 27 to 84. The place was very busy and obviously popular with several party celebrations in full flow, when we arrived half an hour early for our booked table at 4.30pm. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, they were obviously rushed off their feet, found a table for us to wait at. We were then taken to our table to eat and the lovely waitress sat with my 84 year old mom and went through the menu with her. Nice touch and she continued to give us helpful hints and tips. Food was superb. A special birthday pudding with a well sung happy birthday arrived with no prompting, other than my original online booking note, at the end of our meal. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Although very busy when we went on a Saturday afternoon, the service was really good. The food was even better.. this venue is a great place to eat if you're a meat lover!!
