The Trooper in Lichfield

I have been to the Trooepr a while back for food which was good but first time trying the bottomless brunch there. A 3 course meal plus a selection of prosecco, cocktails or soft drinks. The food was lovely! There was a good selection of drinks for a bottomless brunch. Between our group each drink was sampled and they were all nice. Service was really good and quick! Staff were friendly and helpful and the pub had a busy good atomsphere. It’s also nice and cosy. Would return for brunch or just food in future 😀

Visited this evening for a meal with my husband and parents. Firstly, the restaurant itself is in a lovely location, with wonderful views outside and beautiful interiors. The menu has a great variety, all reasonably priced. We ordered the dirty burger, lasagne, vegan burger and vegan cottage pie with a few sides. The food was beyond expectations, one of the best meals we've had this year. Throughout our visit we were taken care of by a wonderful server named Jay. He was polite, helpful and went above and beyond for us. Haven't received such great customer service for a long time when eating out, so please pass on our thanks to him. Highly recommend visiting, you won't be disappointed!

Excellent meals for all four diners. Super and efficient service. Three excellent steak meals, well presented and lovely coffee.

First time there and we all loved the place inside and the outside area which is massive ,excellent staff especially Abi and Jake H,food was amazing which we all loved,definitely worth going and we will be back soon.

Visited on Wednesday evening, the Manager was welcoming and the serving staff were friendly and efficient. The food was really good, presented well and tasty. The venue is stylish but cosy and I imagine the views are amazing in the summer months. We will definitely be back

Lovely pub with nice atmosphere, had a wonderful Sunday lunch, food was great with plenty to choose from. Our waitress Connie was excellent, friendly polite and efficient.

Great atmosphere, great food and stunning location. This our second visit to this excellently managed and welcomingly staffed gastro-pub and it remains the best destination to go to locally, for Sunday lunch, weekday dining or just a drink.

Came for dinner with friends, the food was amazing, steaks especially, staff were friendly and attentive, beautiful setting for a lovely meal.

Came for a bottomless, was very apparent right away there was no staff but Cortney looked after us and unfortunately she left for a break and no other member of staff bothered to come to our table, if it wasn’t for Courtney coming back afterwards I was ready to complain which I’ve never had to nor felt the need to before until today but due to Courtney being extra apologetic.. other staff wasn’t much good at all..

Came for bottomless brunch on 30/08/2024. We were served by Courtney who was quite evidently under pressure due to staff shortages. She was amazing, constantly had a smile on her face which is not what can be said for the other staff on shift. Courtney went on her break which resulted in the other staff literally ignoring us and leaving us with service until Courtney returned from her break. We did complain about the lack service but in all honesty if it wasn’t for the service Courtney provided I would not be returning to the trooper. Regarding the food, I cannot complain at all, very much enjoyed the meal.

We had the bottomless lunch…..great food & drink value and friendly service. We ordered the sirloin steak and it was cooked to perfection.

Disappointed. Really love this pub, friendly staff, great food, particularly Sunday lunch. Have loved going regularly 1-3 times a week for last few years. However the price increase of drinks has stopped me. A pint of beer at circa £5.50 is ridiculous. The local pubs are charging circa £4 for identical drinks. If you are going for a special occasion meal and prepared to indulge, great choice/excellent, however I personally won’t go again. Shame, great place otherwise.

Whilst the food and setting was super the highlight of our visit was Abi. Not only was she a great waitress her lovely, chatty personality made our visit all the more enjoyable. She was great. 😊

Abbey and Kirsty was absolutely fantastic, there was a large group of us of 21 for my daughter’s 18th birthday these girls worked so hard and was very helpful, nothing was too much trouble, also the food was banging ☺️

Popped in midweek for a family birthday (nieces 18th) and it was amazing. Food was great, drinks/cocktails were great (shoutout to Niall) the whole experience was perfect. The girls who work there (Abbie & Kirsty) couldn’t do enough for you, nothing was too much trouble. 10/10 for all the staff

We've been meaning to eat at the Trooper for ages having heard only good things and I'm so pleased we finally did. We had a really nice meal (fantastic ribeye steak!) and the atmosphere was bustling but laid back. The service we got got from our waitress Abi was spot on. Really friendly and attentive but not intrusive. We'll be back!

Jayden was our waiter throughout our visit and he was brilliant. Excellent customer service. Good sense of humour and added a personal feel to our experience. It was refreshing having a young staff member serving that could hold a conversation. He is a real asset. The food was also delicious!

Fabulous food, maybe the best Steak and Ale pie ever. Great size portions, lovely setting, music and ambience. Kirsty is the best host make sure you ask for her.

The food was amazing, the service was amazing and Kirsty our main waitress went above and beyond when it came to how she provided an amazing surprise to the birthday girl despite it not being booked as a birthday meal! Can’t recommend this place enough. Even met the owner and he was a really nice genuine chap!

Rude staff, really bad attitude of one lady called Kirsty who appeared to be in charge of an area. We were spoken to by her very rudely on two occasions, firstly to say we had two hours from our first drink and needed to order our food as we were 20 minutes in. We had only just received our menus that she was meant to bring us when she seated us. She then returned at the end and said we were 45 minutes over which we weren’t (we were about 15 minutes over the two hours from our first drink) but we were waiting for our drinks that had been ordered in our time slot over 25 minutes previous. She refused for our last drinks to be brought out although we had waited a long time between ordering drinks when our glasses were empty and receiving them. Our main waiter Millie was friendly and helpful. The steak was over cooked, but was changed promptly by our waitress with no issues. No sauces brought out so had to ask for these for a second time. Overall we were happy with our food. My friend did go over and speak to another lady about this situation and about the way we were spoken to, and we did receive our last drinks. At the end we had moved to the bar area to finish our drinks and were basically given our receipt and told they needed the table. The gentleman returned a minute later with the card reader. Again this felt really rude, we paid the bill straight away and were told again they need the table. The gentleman could have offered for us to move to the bar stools which were free but didn’t. I have visited The Trooper numerous times and have never had a complaint or been treated or spoken to in such manner. The attitude of the staff today really ruined a well needed catch up. Would not recommend, many of your staff seem unhappy and it’s not surprising with the attitude of those who appear in charge. Your staff would benefit from some communication skills training.

We came tonight with our family, the atmosphere, food and service was amazing. The steaks are cooked to perfection, we could not recommend this place more. A special mention to Connie, who was pleasant and enchanted our meal experience

First time here and we was celebrating our Daughter’s birthday, it’s a very lovely place indeed the decor is superb and very welcoming, we had a waitress called Connie who was absolutely brilliant made sure that we was looked after and nothing was too much trouble the food was delicious probably the best Sunday roast I’ve ever had, thank you to all the staff for making this occasion a special one to remember, highly recommended and will return asap.

Came here for a meal and wasn’t disappointed, we opted for the 1kg wings to share, partner wanted the peri peri and I was advised that they had quite a kick so they agreed to do half peri and half bbq, loads of flavour and plenty of sauce but very messy! We then chose the tomahawk which we could chose two sides and two sauces we went for the chips and dauphinoise potatoes and the peppercorn sauce and the garlic and Stilton. The tomahawk was cooked to perfection (medium rare) everything was perfect, staff were very busy but still very attentive. Fantastic cocktail menu too. Will definitely return!

We arrived at the restaurant at 13.45 and had 3 waitress come to our table to request our drinks order. 45 minutes we had still not received a drink when we finally received our drink my glass we dirty so I had to send my drink back which then took a further 30 minutes for another drink to be brought to our table. The waitress then split some of the replacement drink on the table and said she would bring a cloth to mop it up this never happened. We then waited 1 hour 45 mins for our meals to arrive. My mom ordered a brean fish meal that should should have come with a salad which we had to request and our shared mixed grill should have come with a jacket potato which it did not come with the meal. I made complaint and they gave us the meals for free but this does not stop us feeling extremely disappointed as it was for our birthdays and sentimental reason and we can never get this meal back and the time wasted. We will not be returning to this restaurant as they do not seem to care how their customers feel. If you have a special occasion can I suggest to pick another restaurant. Beware !!!

We are a huge fan of the trooper always have been, so we were really excited to go back after lock down, didn't mind sitting outside but to then find out when seated that there is a simplified menu! We couldn't even have peppercorn sauce with our steak!! Waited ages for food to be told there was a trip in the kitchen. Sunday roast was not the best had better from Toby cavery, really really disappointed and won't be returning until the normal menu is back!

Never felt such an inconvenience, table booked a week in advance and when we arrived (on a cold and wet afternoon) we were told that the only table available was one without a brolly and surrounded by smokers standing away from their own tables. This despite there being 10 free tables under cover with heaters available for the guests.Felt awfully cliquy and when we decided to decline the table and leave the premises we was met with smirks and sniggers (not from the poor girl trying to workout what to do but by the group of smokers around the table)Awful, disorganised, amateur hour.

Sorry to say that our visit was not great this time. Arrived on time and were seated promptly- good start, but it was down hill from there. Ordered food, waited nearly an hour for it to come, not acceptable whilst sat outside in the cold.post lockdown menu should have been designed for quicker turn around if the current one is too hard to manage. The waitresses, while all polite, were not attentive and didn’t seem experienced at keeping an eye on what was going on and how long people have been waiting. Waited a good while for food, plates to be collected. It took 20 mins for staff to box a pizza and get the bill (had to ask two different members before this was done). A member of staff did check back on us, but right at the end of the meal. When we mentioned the long wait time there wasn’t any acknowledgement,apology or explanation, just changed the subject. May be back in the future to see if there’s improvement, but would be reluctant.

The Yakatori sticks leave a lot to be desired. Not sure why such a little dish is on the menu. There was more stick than meat. I asked the young lady about the portion size, who recommended 2. Maybe she wanted to say 200! Anyway had 2 with chips n salad. The flavours were nice, it's all cooked nice but for lunch, I'd much rather see baked potatoes, or sandwiches. Food n drink (£5.70 pint cider)Too expensive for what you get. Sorry, I've eaten here before and thought it was a bit pretentious then.

After a long break being shut due to covid my experience here was a nice fresh welcome back to the hospitality sector. It may be cheaper to have a glass of wine at home but it does not substitute being out socializing with colleagues and having professional, welcoming friendly staff do all they can to make your visit special. The Trooper really have excelled.

I have never experienced anything like it. The service was terrible. 1. Ordered food, asked if we would like our starter together with our main? NO2. We both ordered the rotisserie chicken, chips and salad. After a long wait when the main arrived, chicken on one plate,along with the salad, no chips. Waited 10 minutes, still no plate for my husband or chips. 3. Also ordered water at the same time as the wine. This also never came.4. Had to call the waitress to ask where was the rest of our order, by this time the chicken was cold.To be honest with you, the evening only got worse, not better.It wasn't for the lack of staff. It was more lack of experience and a massive lack of communication skills. On a better note the food was very good. The management seriously really need to employ more experienced waiting staff.

We chose The Trooper for our last lunch before Lockdown 2. The food was fabulous, huge portion of fish and chips and a pizza just the way it should be, with a paper thin crispy base (and one to take home with the 2-4-1 deal. The onion rings are a must whatever you order. COVID safe environment and great service from Amy, we’ll be back soon.

Had a lovely lunch today-we choose here for our last lunch before lockdown as we love the welcoming warm feel. Wasn’t disappointed, had the duck wraps to start and fish and chips for main ( it’s a huge portion!) Churros and coffee for desert. Enjoyed every bite. The welcome, or lack of it, should have been a clue. Whilst waiting at the specified area to be seated, both a waitress and subsequently a barman, looked us square in the face, then looked away without saying a word. I don't expect to be seated immediately if people are busy, but an acknowledgement that someone would be with us shortly is surely not too much of an expectation.?Whilst walking to be seated, we were warned that there was a 1 hour wait for mains to be served. The staff member made it abundantly clear that they were "p***** off" with how busy they were. The place looked rammed, but I guess that would be expected for a late lunchtime sitting at half term. It's worth mentioning here that we had made a booking well in advance for our visit. What we didn't realise was that we would be waiting for 20 minutes before anyone came to take our drinks order. We used the time wisely and also ordered food at the same time. We opted for stone baked pizza and were relived when she said that the pizza wouldn't take long. Sadly the relief didn't last long. 40 minutes we had to wait to be served with our pizza. This is the first place I have ever eaten where I haven't been asked if everything was okay with the food. Waiting staff walked by many times but we had turned invisible again.Having finished the pizza, we were looking forward to being offered the opportunity to view a desert menu. Still invisible, we actually reverted to using our mobile phones to view menus on other local establishments that would hopefully realise that we were present in their venue. Whilst doing so, we heard other diners complaining about waiting times, with 1 couple complaining to waiting staff that they had ordered 2 drinks 40 minutes prior and still hadn't received them. Others had to physically walk from their tables to go and find waiting staff to request the bills. We chose to risk desert here and managed to flag down a member of staff as they were passing. We had viewed the menu online, so ordered immediately. It was only after doing this that another member of staff came to clear our table.In summary, dreadful service, adequate food.

Me and my friends went for Saturday bottomless at the trooper. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and drinks and the serviced was excellent, thanks to Harry! He was very polite and helpful and fulfilled our need will definitely be returning. Thanks Harry and everyone else at the trooper !! Amazing service !!:)))

Been coming here for 5/6 years, even held my 30th here and the food was always flawless. We havnt been since prior to COVID so was looking forward to the visit. Well... I’d rather have spent half and ate at a marstons pub. Table was 15 minutes late so stood outside in the cold, starter took 50 minutes to come, Mains come and the sides and sauces followed 10 minutes after. The steak was chewy, the peppercorn sauce was loaded with full peppercorns and the sautéd veg was just loaded with salt. I don’t complain in house, I just never return again. This is now the same food and people as hoof beats. Go elsewhere
