We stayed at the Ye Olde Dun Cow for 2x nights as we were attending a wedding at the Blithbury Lakes nearby. The staff helped before the stay emailing me local taxis to pre-book for our stay. Upon arrival, after a 4.5 hour drive, we walked into an extremely comfortable, welcoming pub with lovely decoration, good menu, and friendly staff/locals. We settled in our perfectly adequate and comfortable room and went back downstairs to have our evening meal. The food was delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly. It was a great evening. The shower in the room was powerful and the bed was comfortable. There was a working tv and plenty of condiments to choose from. The area was so peaceful. Breakfast in the morning was a fantastic full English and the morning staff were so friendly (even popping home so I could borrow hairspray which I had forgotten to bring with me!). It was unexpectedly kind. I can’t recommend the pub and the food enough. I will definitely stay there again. A great weekend away!! Thank you so much x

Main food was brilliant. The sides were really plentiful but let the presentation down a bit. The main dishes could have been served to you in any high end restaurant but the vegetables were really roughly and poorly chopped - not a huge issue though, this is pub grub after all! Waitresses serving were a delight, but what really let the place down was the lady who seemed to be the manager/landlord. Extremely rude to the point that our custom was an inconvenience and let the whole experience down!

We had booked a table two and a half months ahead. My mum wanted to pay for all of her family to have dinner and celebrate my brothers 60th birthday. Since there was originally going to be 10 of us, we were told that we would have to pre-book our meals to reduce stress on the kitchen. We agreed and gave my email address, so that the menu could be emailed. After a number of weeks, we still hadn’t received the menu, and so rang to make them aware. We were told that they would be updating the menu and would forward it when it was ready. This was fine with us. The menu was emailed to me three weeks before the event, I printed copies, distributed, took the requests and we rang in our orders less than one week later. By this time, the numbers had reduced to eight. On the day of the party, we travelled in two cars through a thunders storm, large puddles and torrential rain. We chose not to take the most direct route as it was prone to flooding. We arrived on the carpark just before the booking time. My mum would usually use a wheelchair, but previous experience had taught us that accessibility at the Dun Cow is very limited. We opted to walk Mum into and through the building, which proved to be a good decision for the particular table that we had been allocated, since wheelchair access to that table would have been impossible. By the time we had got Mum seated and I had returned from the bar with drinks it was three minutes past six. The lady (Manageress, I think) came to our table at exactly four minutes past six with her pad and began to discuss our pre-orders. She told us that there was now a new menu and some of our chosen options were no longer available. The two pre-ordered minted lamb shanks were now tandoori lamb shanks and my wife’s pre-ordered sea bass was no longer available. We didn’t make a fuss because this was a party and the last thing that any of us wanted to do was spoil it, especially so for the ‘Birthday Boy’ and my mum who was treating us all. Since my wife’s sea bass was no long an option, she asked if she could see the new menu to choose an alternative. The lady responded, ‘No, because the chef has already started preparing the meals. She also said (in quite a stern tone of voice) “ Your table was booked for six so you will have to be quick as we are fully booked tonight and will need the table”. My wife queried what she could have instead of the sea bass and only at that point did the lady concede and bring the new menu so that she could choose an alternative. ‘The lady’ said we could change our mains but couldn’t change our starters as they were already prepared. It seemed that we were being informed that the only people who could change their mains were the two who had ordered the lamb shank and my wife who had ordered the sea bass. We kept to our original orders for mains and starters and my wife ordered the belly pork from our original menu. Most people were happy with the food that was served but those who had the tandoori lamb shank were disappointed with it, complaining that the flavours were overwhelmingly tomato and very little by way of spices. My 10oz Ribeye rare steak was certainly not a ribeye, (rump, I think). It was certainly not cooked rare, (more medium to well done). It was over seasoned (very salty). It was more the size of steak that I expect if I were ordering an 8oz. I guess that it could have been as big as 10oz prior to it being cooked for far too long, We were asked if everything was okay with our meals and nobody complained; this was a party, who would spoil it for others by complaining? Two of us ordered desserts which were enjoyed, I think. And then the rush began to clear our table. It seemed that the party was over! The table was quickly cleared and we were made to feel as though we were in the way. We sat waiting for the bill but it didn’t materialise. I went to the bar and asked for the bill, I was acknowledged by ‘the lady’ and went back to the table. The bill did not arrive and so, my brother-in-law went and asked for it again. This time the bill of £265 was brought to our mum by a young waitress. My mum asked for the waitress to add on a £10 tip. There was no acknowledgement for the tip. There was no goodbyes, no thank you for your custom. So much for a celebration! I certainly will not be returning to this venue and I doubt if anyone else from our party will be either.

We have been very lucky to find this outstanding pub. Kris and Georgie run an absolute fabulous place and we have been privileged to eat here this week. We have stayed in the local holiday cottage at Stockwell Heath for the week and the Dun Cow is so good we ate here 6 out of 7 days. The menu is varied enough to be able to accommodate this and we had a wide range of food. In no particular order all of the food was excellent - a few highlights Sunday Lunch - wow Steak (rib eye and fillet) - cooked to perfection Chicken Kiev - OMG Lamb shank - sensational Open pie - amazing Plus the starters are all amazing Sharing Camembert Prawn cocktail Duck Sung Plus the dun cow smokies All outstanding The drinks range is first class too Excellent and very friendly service from every member of staff. The addition of the Cow Shed shop is great and if the weather allows it’s worth grabbing a pre meal drink and sitting outside in the garden. All food is very well priced Monday - Thursday set meal is great value Thanks everyone for welcoming us again (3 years running coming here) Just wish we had something as good as this in our local area L/J/C

Have visited this pub for several years and wondered if it had changed ownership.. noticed of late its different staff Had Sunday lunch with family I understand it’s not easy dealing with a large group and various requests. As many do not like too much gravy we requested gravy to be in a separate jug.. lady happy to oblige several requested this. When main courses came out one of party had gravy on plate this was pointed out younger waitress said we had not requested this she wasn’t there when ordered placed and her attitude should have been better rather then trying to make out we hadn’t asked. She was told by lady who was charge and returned to the kitchen..

A wonderful warm and friendly pub offering top class food, this was our fourth visit and the food is consistently excellent. It's worth paying a little extra for such a high quality meal. The smokies as a starter are sheer heaven and never experienced them anywhere than here. My main was pork belly with cider sauce, black pudding and pork crackling with sauted potatoes. I managed to squeeze in a creme brulee and although exquisite regretted it for the one hour drive home. That's what you get for being greedy but if I had to do it again I would for this excellent food. As the designated driver I drank Adnams Ghostship which was so good I had to check it was almost alcohol free. Great meal 10 out of 10.

I visited Ye Olde Dun Cow with my wife on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. It was our first time. To begin, I had pan fried king prawn and my wife had the soup of the day which was tomato with roasted peppers. Both came with ample warm crusty bread which was perfect to mop up the delicious garlic, chilli and parsley sauce. The soup was thick and flavoursome. Our mains arrived, I chose the pork belly and my wife had the vegetarian wellington which was packed with mushroom, spinach, Brie, cranberry and hazelnut. She said the pastry was nice and crispy with a beautiful filling. My pork belly blew me away! It was topped with black pudding, apple sauce and crunchy pork crackling. Surrounded by a delicate cider sauce it was the best pork belly I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a few!). Both our mains were accompanied with broccoli, carrots and spinach and an amazing bowl of sautéed new potatoes. I had to ask the host how they cooked the potatoes and where they sourced their pork! We were both so full we couldn’t even entertain looking at the desserts. On our way out we found another surprise, a delightful farm shop. We will be back for sure.

Fantastic meal! We’ve not had the pleasure of eating a meal in the restaurant here sadly but had our first takeout meal from them. Freshly cooked, piping hot & delicious! We felt it was good value for money too compared with other takeaways from other local pubs. Would love to come and enjoy a sit in meal when lockdown is over

My wife and I decided to try and cheer ourselves up during the second Covid lockdown and noticed on Social media that Ye Olde Dun Cow Inn at Colton were doing a takeaway service and the menu looked great and reasonably priced so we placed an order. We arrived slightly early and had just pulled up on the car park when a man shouted at us that he would tell them inside that we were there. I told him my name thanked him and he went inside the Inn. Our order came a short while later with a smile and again without me having to get out of the car it was also a little earlier than we’d ordered. As it was our first takeaway from here we played it quite safe ordering a Veggie Wellington with vegetables and Scampi & Chips. We also had a side of chips. Anyhow it smelt lovely and when we put it out on plates the portions were good and it looked very good. My wife and I really enjoyed our food, the Veggie Wellington was gorgeous and the vegetables really well cooked and tasty. The Scampi tasted good and the chips were of a good standard. All in all we really enjoyed it so instead of doing the usual suspects for a takeaway we’d suggest you try here instead, you will not be disappointed. We haven’t eaten here for years but without doubt when it is open again we’ll be paying it a visit. Thank you.

It was my mums Birthday on sunday, and as she doesn't go out at all now, we ordered 3 takeaway lunches. Well what can I say, the food was amazing, cooked to perfection. We all thoroughly enjoyed it, and wont hesitate to order again.

Loved it here. Haggis is not something I would eat but my partner ordered it and it was lovely. The pork belly is something you must try. Staff friendly and helpful and polite. Will be visiting again.

On the lookout for a nice Sunday lunch we decided to try Ye Olde Dun Cow as we hadn’t visited for years! We won’t wait as long for our next visit as it was fantastic. You get a lovely warm welcome at the door and tables are all nicely spaced out so you are comfortably socially distanced from other guests. The roast dinners were delicious and arrived promptly and piping hot. The creme brûlée and chocolate orange bread & butter pudding were just as tasty, and the perfect sized portion. We will be back soon to try the main menu.

Our second visit since lockdown last night and a second lovely meal had by all. We took some special friends and were not disappointed, the battered haddock was the best two of us had ever eaten. My husband had the trout, the aroma was delightful and our other friend had the risotto and said it was beautiful. The starters were wonderful too but on this occasion we were all too full for desert, sob sob as they are delicious too. All service excellent also even though the staff were busy, they maintained all Covid precaution and are very friendly. The prices are very good too, restaurant style food at pub food prices, you can’t go wrong, excellent value for money. Can’t wait for the next visit. Chris & June Cooper xxxx

We have not been to The Dun Cow for some time as we moved away from the village, however went in for a meal last night while in the area.We had a very enjoyable meal. Everything was freshly cooked. The chef came out to check on how the food was received which was great customer service. We heard about their shop that is in the process of being set up, this is a great benefit for the village, and helps with diversification for the pub/B&B.

It's been a number of years since we last visited. What a great surprise, really clean & fresh decor, greeted at "reception" and show to our table.Everyone Covid-19 sensitive & well planned / organised.Good choice of Food on the Menu [plenty of fish options] & the idea of the Fixed Price for 2 /3 Courses [+ supplements] well received. Our choices included for starters - Brie / Redcurrant Jelly & the old classic Prawn Cocktail & Mains - Rissotto / Prawn Linguini & Fillet Strips with Onions / Garlic & Mushrooms. All were absolutely delicious, washed down with various wines.Great Service & a real Friendly Ambience in a lovely village pub. Thanks all for Great Evening.
