The Plough in Lichfield

We had heard good things about this pub, so we decided to try it on a rare midweek night off. The service was as you would expect, no complaints, the Starters were good, we had the Mushroom dish and the Chilli King Prawns, we had ordered Sirloin Steak and Sea Bass for the main, the Steak came slightly overcooked to our request for Medium with just Chips as my partner had asked for no salad, as a chef myself for £27 I would have at least put a few mushrooms and a grilled tomato on ? To make the plate look something. The Seabass for £22 was a small single fillet, I would have at least expected a small whole fish for that price? Sorry, but we were both underwhelmed.

The Plough serves some of the best pub food around and, although not cheap, is reasonably priced for what it is. It was difficult to choose what to have with many appealing delights such as Char Sui Pork Cheeks and Beef Feather Blade. I wanted both of these! Eventually I opted for the Beef and it did not disappoint. Service is friendly and efficient. On the bar there was a decent range of three ales available, including an excellent pint of the fairly local Holden's Golden Glow. Perfect? So why have I only given them four stars? Well, this place looks like a pub externally and has a pub name but internally it has been so heavily modernised, it has more the feel of a contemporary restaurant. That may not be an issue for many people but, personally, I like my pubs traditional. No chance of a dartboard or a game of dominoes here!

Whilst in the area we were looking for a dog friendly pub, that served food. We struck very lucky with the plough at shenstone, the food was amazing, the service was impeccable and the place was spotlessly clean. We will definitely be going back to this place. Three generations of our family arrived at 7 p.m., were welcomed to our table, booked without fuss three days earlier. Drinks were swift and our varied courses of food arrived quickly. The taste, presentation and quality were truly excellent and the bill surprisingly reasonable. Well done The Plough and well done their friendly staff.

Went to the plough for Sunday lunch and what amazing food we had, I went back to the 80’s and had a prawn cocktail, so many prawns. My partner had the parfait which was smooth and full of flavour, delicious. And then, the most incredible lamb shank, so much meat, beautifully tender, best I’ve ever had I think. Veggies and the roast potatoes were very good too, overall, outstanding food, left very very full, will definitely go back.

Food was lovely,just a few issues. The steak burger needed a small side salad,coleslaw or onion rings to complete the plate. Had to ask for condiments rather than being offered, I would think tartar sauce was standard on fish and chipsmeal. I asked for a dessert cocktail while my companions asked for dessert,it wasn't till after they receive their desserts I was told no chocolate sauce. I might have chosen a dessert at time of f ordering if I was made aware. However on plus didewe could take our dog.

Fantastic place for a family gathering. We have been to the Plough 3 times, for a wedding, a 50th and today a funeral. The food is excellent, service friendly and professional, it’s good value for money. We couldn’t recommend it enough.

Highly recommend the Plough at Shentone. 11 members of my family had a lovely evening meal on Saturday 3rd June to celebrate my husband's 80th birthday. Service and meal was excellent and the staff were very pleasant and efficient .

Outstanding service! We cannot recommend Chris and the team highly enough. They are some of the kindest, perceptive and most attentive people we have had the pleasure of meeting. They were absolutely brilliant with the kids ( we have three of all different ages ) and very understanding of our situation. They were swift with the order and the food was impeccable, as always. Went for the Mothers Day Lunch, 8 adults and 1 child. Age range 8 years old to 83 year old. What a delight. Food superb, service superb, cannot recommend enough. The attention to detail and the atmosphere was great. The Manager should be very proud of his team. Well worth a visit if you are nearby.

Very poor.. nice enough staff . Freezing cold room .. lovely start ! Party of four with 5yr old with us . We wanted a Venue to celebrate my moms 90th. The plough was recommended by friends as they have a function room. From our first communication with the team and to the event we cannot fault the whole experience. The room was dressed beauty for us. The food had been pre ordered and was served with military precision the amazing Martha and her team. The food was exceptional and the staff were attentive and friendly. Myself and three friends met here on Saturday afternoon as a central location, we came from London, Leeds, and Lincolnshire and had high expectations for The Plough. Upon arrival, we were met with the rudest front of house - no hello or welcome, just a very blunt and sharp ‘have you booked?!’. Of course we had after travelling so far we weren’t going to take the risk not to. When the man showed us to our table we were told the kitchen would be closing at 14:30, our table was booked at 14:15. At the time of booking nobody advised this time wasn’t appropriate. The food was below average after we were rushed to order. When leaving, some of us had to park on the road as the car park is beyond normal size for the size of the pub. So as ladies who haven’t seen each other for a long time do, we all walked each other to the car on the roadside to say our goodbyes. The man (front of house) chased us and asked us why we were leaving our cars in the pub carpark! I have NEVER received such rude treatment from anywhere. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone.

Restaurant follows covid security policy well wiping down tables carefully ect. Food was very good, I had an aubergine bake and which came with a greek salad and garlic bread. All were very nice with plenty of olives and feta cheese in salad. Would highly recommend.

In these tough times it’s fantastic to see that there are people out there still willing to go the extra mile for their customers. Made a reservation at The Plough for my daughter’s 18th birthday, spoke to the staff about whether we could bring a cake and asked them to decorate the seating area. Nothing was too much trouble for them (apart from the ridiculously sized and shaped balloons). The food as always was amazing, the service was in line with the current protocol and we were served with a smile.Recommend the beef brisket Wellington and the sticky toffee pudding.Massive thanks to all who made a special day that little bit more special.Let’s support our hospitality sector in these testing times!

First and foremost, the food was excellent as it has always been on our previous visit. This review is all about the "Covid-19 Secure Dining Experience".1) It was like trying to cross the German Border in 1939 to get through the door. 2) The Owner was very rude and condescending when explaining the Covid-19 rules and watched like a hawk as each of us sanitised our hands making a hand-wringing motion.3) They had crammed so many tables into the main dining area in front of the kitchen that it looked like a Polling Station with the cream coloured partitions. My vote still went to Boris!4) The Waitress was unengaging, even though only wearing a clear visor, just placed things down on the table and walked off with little or no interaction.5) Midway through our Mains, the Owner slid a partition along the floor in between our table of 5 and another table of 2, which had loads of space, to make room for "Two tables of four without a partition". Dianne Abbot would probably count that as a party of 10! The Owner said "This will make you safer", suggesting we weren't safe enough before. He just needed somewhere to stash it and didn't warn us it was coming.Never going back!

I have to start by saying that the quality of the food was excellent. Two people had the Katsu Burgers and they looked incredible. The fish and chips were good too, although the chips weren't the best to be honest. The cod was delicious but I honestly could have done with more. I did feel the portion was rather small. However, the wait for the food was, in my opinion, too long. We ordered starters too, again, all excellent but we had to wait 45 minutes to receive these, a bit too long for us. Would return.

Despite previous review we have had three or four lunches at the Plough within the last month ,and felt totally relaxed about the virus control there . There was a Facebook video before they reopened which was very good . They telephoned before every visit to check regarding our health and whether we had been abroad etc within 14 days of our visit . On arrival we were asked for our details for track & trace ,and every member of staff was wearing face covering . Food and drink were brought on trays for us to lift off . Hand sanitiser was available .The food was delicious as was the wine .

Apart from mislaying our booking last Saturday, we were disappointed that the staff were not enforcing the one-way system through the restaurant and no one, chefs, waitresses or customers, was wearing a face covering. Although the restrictions limiting groups to six or less were in force, customers were booking adjacent tables resulting in groups of 11 or 12. The food and service were good but the management must retake control.

Meeting up with an old work friend we decide to try out the plough. We had good service.fine surrounding and excellent food...well recommend the cod loin...it would have been nice to have had some green's with it though!

We rang first to check it was ok to bring two young children. There were no child seats. There were meals for children...the usual ...chicken nuggets etc. We sat down . So far so good. My two year old grandson wanted the toilet and got off his seat to go round to his mum so that he could go to the loo. Seconds later, a man we didn't know came right up to my grandson and bellowed at him to sit down. We found out later that he owned the restaurant. He wouldn't lea e our table and ranted on, making us all feel uncomfortable. I wanted to leave. The evening was ruined for me. I just wanted to go home.

First visit, taking advantage of Eat Out scheme and very impressed. All 3 of us loved our starters and mains, lovely decor and restaurant has lots of smallish areas so has an intimate atmosphere. Service very efficient, lots of staff serving the customers, so no long waits. Food was delicious, will definitely be visiting again, a great find!

When we first arrived there was a problem with our booking, but the staff were absolutely fantastic and took pity on us with our two hungry children. Despite the restaurant being fully booked they cleared a table for us in the bar and could not be more apologetic or accommodating.The food was delicious, the service was speedy and we were made to feel very welcome.We would definitely recommend and if we’re passing through the area again, we will be sure to come back.

Excellent meal. Two couples attended. We all had 3 courses. Food was excellent, services was also great and social distance measures made us all feel safe. My first visit to a restaurant since the relaxation of lockdown. As usual the food was excellent, and I have to say both my wife and I felt very safe and relaxed. The staff were very professional under the new normal, definitely will return.

Went for dinner on my birthday with my wife, daughter and son-in-law. Pete has got the covid secure stuff down to a fine art and as far as I was aware, fully compliant as we all felt entirely safe. All four of us thought the food was absolutely fabulous and the front of house team were all extremely attentive and pleasant. The Bull's Head was our number one pub/restaurant to walk to but it is definitely now going to be the Plough. Highly recommended.

Visited the Plough at Shenstone for Sunday lunch today. The food was exceptional, we had the beef and lamb, nicely cooked and well presented. The service provided by the bar staff and waitresses was excellent. All the team are pleasant and well organised. An ideal venue for a good meal in pleasant surroundings.

Dined in the private dining room and the place, atmosphere, food and service was lovely. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal and we all had 3 courses and couldn't fault a thing. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable and I will be back. The steaks are highly recommend.

25 people in the norton room, food and service was great, planning by Kate and Pete was very helpful and everything was executed as I had hoped. I was able to dress the room as we wanted. All the guests commented on how good the food was which is what you want for a big gathering. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a room for a similar event. Thank you

Booked last minute for a birthday meal for three. Each had a main and dessert. Two of us ordered the hake fillet Thai green curry which came with a naan bread. Really not a great dish. The naan was still quite doughy in the centre and the green curry sauce was really gloopy consistency and had started to form a skin over the top. It wasn’t pleasant. Neither of us enjoyed the dish which was a shame. We also ordered desserts - x2 sticky toffee pudding and 1 lemon cheesecake. These weren’t great either. Service was prompt all night. All the food and drinks came in at just over £80. For the price, the food massively missed the mark. I’ve had much better for much less. We won’t be back, unfortunately.

Amazing, go in here quite regularly now, the food is fantastic, staff are attentive, sometimes can take a while to come over and take orders, check backs not always done until near the end of the meal, but the food certainly makes up for it, been a few times now, the breakfasts are spot on, we’ve been for set lunches, and a la carte dining, the turkey curry on New Year’s Day was unreal, not too spicy, normally go for garlic mushrooms which are amazing. And steak, the deserts are fab too, rocky road brownie highly recommended.

Four of us visited the Plough last night to sample the Curry evening. There were 5 different curries to choose from along with side dishes, all of which were really tasty, my vegetable biryani was delicious and the king prawn curry was highly praised. The management and staff were really attentive and polite and we are looking forward to returning soon.

Manager was extremely rude! It was clear that he was consistently putting his own staff down and consequently made both me and my wife feel very uncomfortable. The food was average at best and quite overpriced in my opinion. WILL NOT BE RETURNING AND WOULDN'T RECOMMEND

Second review on this place and I find it difficult to understand the negative reviews, food is excellent and piping hot, Pete and his staff are excellent and so hard working, the premises is clean as a whistle and caters for all, the selection of drinks is second to none and the people are so friendly. I have just left the plough today after a delicious Sunday roast, a birthday meal for my husband. We selected from a number of gastro pubs in Sutton based on historically really enjoying the food and ambience. Unfortunately today’s meal was ruined by the very loud, rude manager. His intention I believe was to train the young waitresses however his treatment of them was bullying and unnecessarily aggressive; in fact at one point my daughter and husband witnessed him manhandle one of the girls, pulling her arm. I had my daughter with me and it was a bit upsetting. Prior to his intervention we were really enjoying the meal and the service was good. He wasn’t improving anything in fact quite the contrary. The irony is no measure of poor service could have been more disruptive and uncomfortable then his behaviour was. Please if you’re reading this going forward keep staff disciplining private and maybe look at encouraging these young girls instead of just yelling at them.

6 of us on a very busy Saturday night before Christmas, we ordered everything from scallops, garlic mushrooms, steaks, sea bass, beef bourgignon all came out at the same time, great quality beautifully presented - probably the best cooked scallops I've ever had. Perfect, well done

We went with some friends on the Thursday evening, as datenight a couple of weeks ago, as usual the food was excellent both my partner myself and our friends had a lovely evening the staff as usual were very polite and efficient ,the young lad who waited our table called harry was spot on deffo going back

The least welcoming pub I have been to. Regulars surround the bar and don’t like to move out of the way. Bar staff serve the regulars and new folk can wait. BUT food in restaurant was very good. Won’t be back.
