The Plough in Lichfield

The food was absolutely delicious, we came for my partners parents birthdays/retirement dinner. I had the crab arancini and was absolutely blown away, I can confidently say it was the best arancini I’ve ever had. The filet steak was superb, as a chef myself, it was cooked to perfection. Sadly I only snapped two photos of the food I had however, the pizzas are incredibly big and fresh! No complaints from the nine of us dined together. The liquor “safe” has an exquisite range and honestly wish I lived locally as I’d visit weekly!

We attended a birthday party in one of the private rooms upstairs. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the food was outstanding and an overall great service. The dining area is spotless and well presented, as well as the outdoor area with the sports screen. Perfect for any occasion.

We found the food drinks and service is very overpriced for the dining experience that you receive. We ordered the king prawns starter which was £13, the beef fillet carpaccio £12.50 and for mains seabass £24 plus a small bowl of vegetables and rice at £6 each and garlic bread £13 half a roast chicken £23 plus coleslaw £5 and sticky toffee desserts at £8.25 each plus 2 soft drinks and an alcoholic beverage. The service on the food was very slow and it was also quite cold in the restaurant which didn't make it a very pleasant experience when having to sit and eat in your jacket! the restaurant itself is very nice. Walking away with a £149 bill for 2 is something we'd expect to pay for something closer to a more finer dining experience

I came twice in a few days with friends. Both times , amazing food and service. I had a beautiful Beef Wellington and then amazing faggots on visit two. Friends had a lovely looking fish and pizza. Service excellent but times , and we were made to feel so welcome by the owner. This place is such a jewel in the area for top notch food and service. We can’t wait to come again

This is a traditional English pub. Great beer. Plenty of quality snacks and a super-friendly atmosphere. If you’re looking for a gastro pub, this ain’t it. And you won’t get 25 varieties of gin. But there’s Baths on tap and guaranteed chat if you bring your dog. Great pub!

Amazing food and service, we can't wait to go again

We booked a table for 5pm it was ready and waiting for us . Starters were parsnip soup and a creamed mushroom dish they were very much full of flavour mains were Caribbean beef curry and two smash burgers all three meals were delicious then only two of us had puddings creme brulie and the other was lemon tart ( very lemony) the young girl that served us was very polite and chatty when asked for another roll she said certainly and there it was put on the table over all our night was most enjoyable will be going again the food and atmosphere speaks for it's self

Visited the Plough for lunch with three friends. We were greeted by owners on arrival and shown to a lovely table. Drinks were ordered and came immediately. We asked advice on the food to order and the young lady was knowledgeable and very professional. The food was really lovely and beautifully presented. At all times both the owners and team were attentive without being intrusive. We all noted how pleasant and professional the team were. I have visited the Plough before and I observed how confident the young lady who served us in the main had become, a credit to her own hard work and pleasant personality and her training. A new new venue for our December meet up. We will definitely return. Thank you to all.

Fabulous family lunch on Boxing Day. Hadn't been for a long time as no longer work in Lichfield but it didn't disappoint and we will visit again!

I visited this establishment with my partner on Boxing Day for dinner and drinks. While the food was enjoyable, it was somewhat overpriced. Unfortunately, the evening was overshadowed by a highly unprofessional and upsetting incident involving the manager or owner. We witnessed an older male shouting at a young female staff member, reducing her to tears, and then proceeding to berate another staff member shortly after. This behavior was shocking and deeply uncomfortable to witness, turning what should have been a pleasant evening into an unsettling experience. I would strongly advise others to steer clear of this venue unless they want their meal served with an unpleasant side of drama and disrespect. Such treatment of staff is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the establishment.

I visited here with my partner. The Manager suddenly appeared he was rude and abusive to his staff. He was shouting and swearing it was so embarrassing we left. He seemed drunk or under the influence of drugs I would never go there again. I felt sorry for the staff who were doing their jobs . It was so bad we were tempted to phone the police !!

Had a lovely family lunch at The Plough. 12 of us in the party and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The food was fabulous and the service was excellent.

Like to say as a ex chef the food was excellent and the plates were hot ,service was very good ,staff very friendly, looking forward to be going again, keep up the good work guys

Great food but no condiments on the table nor crackers as it’s Christmas! Let down by miserable staff and slow service. Gluten free on Christmas menu was just leaving pigs in blankets and stuffing off!! Not sure about gravy!!

My wife and I went to the Plough for a special meal for my wife who is 71 today we asked for 2 beef wellingtons and a drink the beef wellingtons were not genuine what they were made of is anybody's guess the drink we ask for was blackcurrant and soda got charged £3.95 for it what a rip off the whole meal cost £47.95 in total anybody thinking of going there do not bother they rip you off.

Went yesterday 4 of us led us straight to our table pleasant staff lovely meal bit of a hiccup with one of the starters but soon rectified pleasantly, food delicious will definitely be going back 😋

Great good, Lovely place to dine.

Shocking prices for very average food. Vegetables were very scant. Additional veg £5 extra. Probably the worst bread and butter pudding ever. A square of stodge scraped with cold custard ! Worse still was cheesecake. Average cost of Sunday lunch £38!!. Don't waste your money.

The first impression is that there is the potential for a large number of covers especially as you walk though the tented area at the front of the establishment. The dining room is well laid out with a uniform and interesting design set. First impressions were good and the service was prompt and friendly. The menu has plenty of variety but probably unsurprising. Teriyaki salmon was flavoursome and a generous portion. Sea Bass well presented with flavoursome accompaniments.

After reading recent reviews on here we were a little apprehensive about attending today, but it was a special friend’s 70th Birthday Celebration. Our visit today bore no relation to previous reviews! We were greeted at the door by a friendly young man who directed us to our table and when we sat down a young waitress took our drinks order. When our food arrived it was delicious. Prawn Cocktail, Salmon and Crème Brûlée for me. My husband had Chicken Pate, Faggots and Sticky Toffee Pudding. All of above was excellently cooked and presented. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Really poor service. My girlfriend and i come here a lot and we were left very disappointed. To start, we had our drinks order taken - 20 minutes until the drinks came in which time we had our food order taken. The waitress came back to check that my partner had ordered the salmon which she did not (she ordered the pizza). Her order came as salmon! My fries were stone cold with the burger. Drinks took ages to arrive throughout the night - to the point where I went to the bar with three empty glasses in hand to order. The girl saw me at the bar and was quick to take my order. These drinks never arrived and ironically the same girl brought the card machine when I asked for the bill. We’d had enough. May give this place another chance but was woeful service.

I was so looking forward to coming to this restaurant - but unfortunately I was so disappointed. First of all, we had booked for around 7pm and had not long finished work, don't think I looked overly bad and was dressed in office attire but the looks I had from the waitresses made me feel instantly uncomfortable. I thought 'whatever' and ordered the food, we ordered the fish and chips and fillet steak. I'm so gutted to write this but it was awful, hard and tastless. Not what I was expecting. I won't be returning due to bad customer service and bad food.

Absolutely fantastic meal celebrating my Dad’s 70th. We had family travelling from all over the UK and they all thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food and lovely venue. We had a table of 17 with six being children, everybody enjoyed their meal! Thank you to the Plough’s team who were exceptional!

Very sad to say on this occasion it was dreadful. We was out for a birthday meal and four of us ordered a fillet steak two of these were cooked wrong. Fortunately the other person didn't want any fuss so he didn't complain. But my fillet steak was dreadful so I had to take it back which led to a 25 minute wait so I had my meal on my own. Very disappointing.

We had heard good things about this pub, so we decided to try it on a rare midweek night off. The service was as you would expect, no complaints, the Starters were good, we had the Mushroom dish and the Chilli King Prawns, we had ordered Sirloin Steak and Sea Bass for the main, the Steak came slightly overcooked to our request for Medium with just Chips as my partner had asked for no salad, as a chef myself for £27 I would have at least put a few mushrooms and a grilled tomato on ? To make the plate look something. The Seabass for £22 was a small single fillet, I would have at least expected a small whole fish for that price? Sorry, but we were both underwhelmed.

Very conscientious staff and delicious food from excellent menu options. We thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary dinner and drinks. Thankyou to all the staff.

The Plough serves some of the best pub food around and, although not cheap, is reasonably priced for what it is. It was difficult to choose what to have with many appealing delights such as Char Sui Pork Cheeks and Beef Feather Blade. I wanted both of these! Eventually I opted for the Beef and it did not disappoint. Service is friendly and efficient. On the bar there was a decent range of three ales available, including an excellent pint of the fairly local Holden's Golden Glow. Perfect? So why have I only given them four stars? Well, this place looks like a pub externally and has a pub name but internally it has been so heavily modernised, it has more the feel of a contemporary restaurant. That may not be an issue for many people but, personally, I like my pubs traditional. No chance of a dartboard or a game of dominoes here!

Great food served in a beautifully decorated establishment. Good value midweek offering with 50% off mains if whole table purchases either starters or desserts. Garlic Bread looked amazing going to have to go back and try alongside the other tempting menu items. Will return very soon.

Whilst in the area we were looking for a dog friendly pub, that served food. We struck very lucky with the plough at shenstone, the food was amazing, the service was impeccable and the place was spotlessly clean. We will definitely be going back to this place. Lovely village, car park, outside seating area with fairylight canopy & big screen TV. Sat in bar area, restaurant smarter option - were offered the choice. Dined Monday night, not booked. Quite busy. Cheese soufflé, light, cheesy - remoulade fine. Side of seasonal veg, hot, cooked just right. Partner had huge pizza served on wooden board, beautifully cooked. Choice of beers. Wondered if restaurant would have been better as 2 dogs arrived at the next table! Enjoyed & recommend. Good service from waitress & bar.

Very expensive all round in this place. Bottled soft drinks you need a mortgage for and the food a remortgage. The service out shines the food.

Three generations of our family arrived at 7 p.m., were welcomed to our table, booked without fuss three days earlier. Drinks were swift and our varied courses of food arrived quickly. The taste, presentation and quality were truly excellent and the bill surprisingly reasonable. Well done The Plough and well done their friendly staff.

My partner had the parfait which was smooth and full of flavour, delicious. And then, the most incredible lamb shank, so much meat, beautifully tender, best I’ve ever had I think. Veggies and the roast potatoes were very good too, overall, outstanding food, left very very full, will definitely go back.

Food was lovely,just a few issues. The steak burger needed a small side salad,coleslaw or onion rings to complete the plate. Had to ask for condiments rather than being offered, I would think tartar sauce was standard on fish and chipsmeal. I asked for a dessert cocktail while my companions asked for dessert,it wasn't till after they receive their desserts I was told no chocolate sauce. I might have chosen a dessert at time of f ordering if I was made aware. However on plus didewe could take our dog.

Decent service, although the drinks staff seemed unaware of what an IPA was. It was nice to be able to get a table outside when we just walked in on a Sunday afternoon. We only had a couple of starters/sides, because it was mid afternoon and we had skipped lunch. The goats cheese souffle was a disappointment unfortunately. Lacking on the souffle side, and the first one had a hair baked in it and it was very beige and mushy. Could have used some salad garnish or a bit of a crouton to add texture/ colour. The duck parfait went down OK. The hairy goats cheese was fairly quickly replaced... but I guess I was just left feeling underwhelmed after hearing good things about the food and it seemed over priced for what it was, to be honest.

Upmarket and therefore more expensive than it's neighbours. Outdoors TV for sports

Visited here lunchtime midweek with group following a funeral service. Had been pre-booked in advance with buffet lunch. Excellent friendly service from staff and food very good. Three real ales on handpull and the usual lagers. Good wine selection too. Very comfortable interior and a great outdoor seating area under sun umbrellas and awning. A very enjoyable time had by all. Beer prices a bit higher than others but a very pleasant location and excellent staff. Would certainly visit again.

Fantastic place for a family gathering. We have been to the Plough 3 times, for a wedding, a 50th and today a funeral. The food is excellent, service friendly and professional, it’s good value for money. We couldn’t recommend it enough.

Lovely to sit outside under the 'tent' to keep out the sun. Super Sunday lunch. Not cheap but very good. Pork belly was delicious 🤤 Let's hope for more lovely weather. Will revisit.

Highly recommend the Plough at Shentone. 11 members of my family had a lovely evening meal on Saturday 3rd June to celebrate my husband's 80th birthday. Service and meal was excellent and the staff were very pleasant and efficient .

We haven't been for a while due to various issues, but not disappointed on return. Great from the off, friendly atmosphere on the patio, service at the tables was equally friendly and timely. Following drinks we eat at the restaurant, great choice something for everyone, my wife had the scallops and I had the crab Ravioli, both delicious, followed by Tandori Sea Bass and Blade of beef for me, again as in the last time we visited, we both really enjoyed our meals. Would highly recommend, great quality at very fair value. Don't miss out!

Can not comment on food and service ect .. i delivered a TV there last week .. last time i went to the plough in Shenston was 40 years ago .. my uncle Alf invited us over Alfie his son was good friends with jimmy husbands who was the landlord at the time they played Rugby together back in the day and Alfie opened a bar in Acton Ontario Canada naming it the same .. they did a what was called a international pub swap for 6 weeks Alfie came to run the pub in Shenston and Jimmy went to run Alfies pub in Canada .it was all in the news papers . 40 odd years later im here delivering a tv .. i must say it changed alot and it looks like a warm friendly pub to have a enjoyable time .

Nice place for food or drinks. Great outdoors area to sit enjoying the weather and a great selection of food. Not the cheapest but well worth it.

We held a surpise party in one of the private room at the Plough. The management and ALL the staff were excellent. The food and drink service was none stop. We decorated the room which made our evening more personal and special. A huge thank you again to the PLOUGH and we would all highly recommend the food and service. we will see you again soon.

Stopped by mid afternoon on a warm and sunny Saturday in late Spring. We sat outside under an impressive gazebo, which sheltered us from the sun but radiated its warmth below to us. We never ate but could see some diners enjoying food. There had just been a small, informal wedding breakfast and some of the party had joined us in the gazebo as we arrived. I had the best pint of Tribute I'd had since before lockdown. The Guinness was also very well looked after, creamy with no bitterness, and served perfectly. Both were served to us at the table. We wanted to stop longer and would have had we had the time to spare. Shenstone is a pleasant village and the train station makes this an easy location to get to from North Birmingham or Lichfield.

Went for a Sunday roast,have to say we all enjoyed our meals and the quality was good,what wasn't so good were the inattentive staff, and the in ability to bring all parts of the meal in one go to have to ask for some of the veggies and the cauliflower cheese until we had eaten half our meal was a real shame I think maybe no one was directing the younger staff,but get that right and it'll all be good!!!!

Outstanding service! We cannot recommend Chris and the team highly enough. They are some of the kindest, perceptive and most attentive people we have had the pleasure of meeting. They were absolutely brilliant with the kids ( we have three of all different ages ) and very understanding of our situation. They were swift with the order and the food was impeccable, as always. Nothing is too much trouble. They treat every guest perfectly and adapt to each tables needs with real ease and professionalism. Thank you so much for hosting us!

Had a private event there in a separate room upstairs. I have to say that the food was very tasty. The venue was busy and still the staff delivered full attention on us. Well done!

We had the pleasure in spending an evening at the plough with the company of fawlty towers experience to enhance the evening further. Never been welcomed by name on my first visit to a pub, staff attentive, prices good, great atmosphere.... we'll be back!

Went for the Mothers Day Lunch, 8 adults and 1 child. Age range 8 years old to 83 year old. What a delight. Food superb, service superb, cannot recommend enough. The attention to detail and the atmosphere was great. The Manager should be very proud of his team. Well worth a visit if you are nearby.

Very poor.. nice enough staff . Freezing cold room .. lovely start ! Party of four with 5yr old with us . Ordered drinks but realised it might be slow , so ordered food straight away .. nice pizza but undercooked fries .. nice on the tummy I ordered Sea Bass it came with flabby undercooked skin .. yuk real no no . Underneath 3”/3” piece of fish .. swimming in cheap pasta sauce .. undercooked fennel. & diced potatoes.. ..never mind ! Fish & chips served to my husband Shared round .only thing that was hot Asked for custard for my grandson , he loves it .. offered to him in a jug ! No spoon , no dish .. 1 sticky toffee pudding bit dry obviously no dates in it My daughter ordered a …Baileys Coffee ,lt. was served in a massive glass like a cheap latte .. with white sugar sachets on the side . Left feeling Let down ..& still cold . We have been before & had a 50/50 attitude bit ridiculous When paying £180 !

We wanted a Venue to celebrate my moms 90th. The plough was recommended by friends as they have a function room. From our first communication with the team and to the event we cannot fault the whole experience. The room was dressed beauty for us. The food had been pre ordered and was served with military precision the amazing Martha and her team. The food was exceptional and the staff were attentive and friendly. Huge thanks to Kate, Pete and their staff for making it such a lovely occasion
