We sent back two plate fulls of poppadoms because they were burnt and chewy.... We didn't stay for any other food.... So disappointed... couldn't even get poppadoms right!! The decor was very tired and not tidy. Definitely can not recommend.

We had a fab night for my daugher’s 13th. Lovely pink round booth reserved for us, lovely waitress (young, short hair, northern accent), very accommodating in every way. My daughter loved her mocktails and the food was absolutely delicious! There was a DJ who played the best tunes, shame it wasn’t that busy, I’ll definitely be going in on a Thursday night again. The decor and atmosphere of the place is lovely, def one of my favourite places to be in Taunton. Drinks are pricey but they’re well presented and delicious eg actual passion fruit in the porn star martinis which some places have stopped doing. Thanks for a fab night!

Nice setting but food from light bites menu was mostly disappointing. Ordered minute steak baguette - small amount of tough steak and what was described as onion marmalade was just strips of marinated? and softened onion. Friend had mushrooms in a rather bland creamy sauce. Given a small piece of rather lovely bread, she asked for another small piece, which never arrived. I asked for a drink with no ice, which came with ice. Third friend did enjoy a tasty mushroom and avocado sandwich, which they kindly toasted. Her pudding was good. Service was friendly but very slow; it was busy but it took an hour and three quarters for 2 simple courses.

My family and I have been loyal patrons of the Maypole for years, but since it changed ownership, I can confidently say that we won't be returning. I rarely leave negative feedback, but after our recent experience, I feel compelled to warn others. A family member of mine ordered a dish that, when it finally arrived, looked like a frozen meal deal. It was tiny and nowhere near the standard we're used to from this place. Naturally, she mentioned that it didn’t look right. Instead of fixing the issue, what happened next was straight out of a bad sitcom. The new owner, Vas (or however you spell it), decided to take this poor woman—mind you, a lady in her fifties—into a side room, away from everyone else. There, he proceeded to tell her that her opinion was basically wrong because -his- wife "likes it," so she should like it too. He continued to berate her in private, insisting that she's a trouble maker and barred her from the Maypole. Oh, and to add to the absurdity, he brought the plate of food in with him and performed some kind of amateur theatrics, tearing apart the food and eating it in front of her, declaring, "See? It's fine. There's nothing wrong with it." Honestly, it was unhinged behavior. But it didn’t stop there. When she returned to the bar, Vas wasn’t done. He continued to interrogate her, even dragging her husband into it by asking, "Is she like this because you’ve fallen out?" Excuse me? Since when is it acceptable for an owner to dive into someone’s personal life because they didn't like the standard of food? The whole interaction was disturbing, violating, and completely unprofessional. You do not humiliate a paying customer, let alone drag them into a private room to do it. To top it all off, the prices have gone up while the portion sizes and quality have nosedived. At this rate, they’re going to lose every last customer. So, Vas, if you're reading this, here's a bit of unsolicited feedback for you: Learn how to handle customer criticism, or brace yourself for more reviews like mine. And if you’re thinking about barring me—by all means, go ahead. You’d be doing me a favour.

We popped in for a quick drink and a bite to eat. We noticed the menu had changed, and shrunk a bit (a good thing in our view as it's better to have a smaller menu done well) and wondered if it had changed hands. It has. We had the beef short ribs on mash and a burger with bacon and cheese. All the food was good - hot, fresh and tasty. The landlord and bar staff were friendly and gave good service. We will definitely come again.

The service was great. Parties were all seated with enough space between us so that it's not uncomfortable to talk. I had the house favourite duck, and my husband had the steak. The duck was lovely. However, the steak sirloin was chargrilled, which we weren't a huge fan of. Overall a lovely experience and we will definitely be coming back with our dog as its a dog friendly place 😊

The room was fine as usual for premier inn and at least the USB points worked for a change. I also appreciate the parking exceptions. The reason for not giving more stars was the horrendous food and limited menu with no explanation. We get a meal deal for work, and had a choice of chicken strips, chips or nachos for starter and not much for mains either. Nachos are literally out the bag with a tiny dip and one sprig of rocket for 3.50. Chicken wasn't crispy. The fish and chips had no veg or tartar sauce, tiny portions of chips and the fish was straight out of a frozen Birdseye box, for 13.50! I could make much better at home for the price of the nachos! Bolognese tasted like tea and was horrible, probably out of a microwave packet. If you can't do food shut the kitchen don't rip people off, it's criminal charging that, and after a hard day's work it's disappointing. At least breakfast was nice.
