Dropped in on a Saturday night for a quick pint with a very old friend. The publican was friendly and the beer was the best quality I had tasted for a long time. He clearly looks after that beer. Certainly the greatest pint of Doom Bar I have ever had. The Green Dragon roars again. 🐉

We popped in for a quick drink and a bite to eat. We noticed the menu had changed, and shrunk a bit (a good thing in our view as it's better to have a smaller menu done well) and wondered if it had changed hands. It has. We had the beef short ribs on mash and a burger with bacon and cheese. All the food was good - hot, fresh and tasty. The landlord and bar staff were friendly and gave good service. We will definitely come again.

Provided extremely poor value for money. Positive points were that it was an extremely convenient location for my visit and the shower was good. Breakfast was reasonable apart from cheap sausages. Rooms were poor quality, tired, hadn’t been cleaned properly and were not serviced at all during my stay. They overlooked an internal courtyard and the sash windows let in all the sound of customers and the kitchen. You would be mistaken in thinking at least the staff would be considerate. Even worse, the windows let in smoke. I have never smoked and don’t want to smoke, having to involuntarily inhale the second hand smoke of others is beyond irritating. The access to the pub was often blocked by people smoking and vaping, not very inviting at all. Even more irritating was the participation of members of staff in blowing smoke in your face. Main entrance to the rooms is via an internal door. Unfortunately, this is blocked by tables which are often used by customers who ignored you when you are trying to get in and out. I had to lift up and move a chair with its occupant when they wouldn’t move. Make sure you know where the emergency exits are because this door is locked when the pub is closed. The keys were extremely difficult to insert into the locks. The sheets on the bed are so thin you can see the ticking pattern through them - no mattress protected. I slept on top of the thin quilt. Interaction with the staff was pretty minimal, so I can’t really comment on that. Very much doubt whether I will be back.

Alarm bells should have rung when it took 7 phone calls to book a room, with staff being unsure where the zed bed was to accommodate our 10 year old! But on arrival, the room was nice and despite a dirty towel in the sink, it was generally pleasant. Unfortunately, all the staff seemed very young and not trained in hospitality. Having met family for a meal, we arrived at the bar at 9.30 for a drink, and when we asked for another at 10.20 we were told the bar had closed. No reason was given other than the barmaid felt it wasn't busy enough (there were approx 25 people in the bar on a Saturday night). We couldn't believe it. There was no warning or opportunity to buy a drink prior to this, and it cut short our family reunion significantly. Had we known the bar was only open on a whim, we would not have chosen to stay here. In the morning breakfast service was poor, after 10 minutes we had to go into the kitchen to tell the girls we were waiting. Breakfast itself was nice, it just felt like we were in the way! There was a general lack of customer care and management. Nobody appeared bothered about our arrival, stay or departure. A real shame.

Poor! Saturday night, family had come to visit from the Midlands and were staying there. Returned from a meal at approx 9.30 for a couple of drinks...When we went to have our last drink at 10.30 were told they were no longer serving with no warning! Basically told they close when they feel like it! She couldn't wait to get out of there! Was quite surprised to see her in the pub round the corner afterwards! Family told me service at breakfast no better, after waiting 15 minutes they had to knock the kitchen door for attention. Shame as a nice pub...staff need to up their game, management desperately needed!!

I’ve given five stars across the board because of the warm welcome and friendliness of the staff. We had to break our journey, found ourselves nearby and dropped in on the off chance they had a room. The room was good value, clean and comfortable, and the en suite warm and with nice towels. It was also surprising peaceful given the proximity of the pub! Thanks again for your hospitality.

We were looking for a comfortable short stay as a late holiday. Unfortunately, our room was overlooking the courtyard and the several extractors went on and off all night. There were no chairs and we had to request one. The bathrooms have all recently been updated apparently, and were really nice. The new managers have only been there for 3 months. The three women who worked there on housekeeping and helping make breakfast were truly fabulous. Kindness itself. And did they work hard! The bedroom was clean We weren't crazy about the food on offer in the evenings or the prices for it. Being a pub it did get very noisy in the evenings. Wellington itself is on a crossroads and has a delightful little museum. There is an excellent Indian restaurant (under new management) and a Flavours of the Mediterranean, at the east end of the town, open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday. Lovely food. We used the Green Dragon as a base to visit Exeter, Taunton, Exmoor - truly spectacular - and the Great Western canal and other places.

We stayed for one night at the Green Dragon and then for breakfast the following morning. The room was very spacious however incredibly dirty with thick layers of dust on all surfaces and the tea tray was sticky. Then when going down for breakfast in the morning we found everything to be locked and in darkness…staff arrived late and just said sorry won’t be long. Our hot drinks were not how we asked for them and then the breakfast was very greasy and tasteless to the point we didn’t eat it. There was nobody available to speak to at check out and we were instead told to just pop the key on the bar on our way out…I wouldn’t stay here again!

One of the party went in at lunch time to book abd asked that they would have everything. Menu wasn't what is advertised on their website. I was hoping for lasagna but when we arrived the menu choice was very limited. Told changed hands I then thought I would have liver and onions as this was on the new menu but was told there wasn't any left. I finally ordered the more expensive meal of steak which was good. Four clicks of dessert 3 chocolate. Only two portions of crumble so 2 of our party I wanted the crumble The dessert of chocolate brownie dessert was disappointing a piece of nit very tasty dry brownie hard to break with a spoon and a scoop of ice cream.

We popped in to The Green Dragon for a bit of lunch, my wife and I both choose a baguette as we only wanted a light meal for lunch. We both ordered a baguette so we could have half and half of two different ones. My wife's ordered the BBQ pulled pork, which turned out to be BBQ southern fried chicken which although was not what she ordered was nice and tasty. My baguette on the other hand was the chicken tikka, this baguette was totally opposite to the first one, the bread was dry and stale and the chicken tikka was one of those £1 packet tubs you get from Aldi. If it wasn't for the disappointing one, this would have been a very good review.

Firstly I’d say that this wasn’t our first visit to this location and on previous visits the food was excellent. Our visit last night was sadly very different. We arrived just prior to our table booking time and ordered drinks at the bar. We were shown our table and we sat down to look at the menu. Upon an initial glance there was a limited choice, and not the options which I’d enjoyed during previous visits. Within a few minutes we were asked to move tables as the waitress had seated us at the wrong table, no biggie, but you’d have thought she’d have checked first. We all ordered different things from the mains selection having been told that at least three of the items weren’t available. Immediately upon arrival of the food it was very apparent that of the three dishes, two of them were very poorly portioned, the curry and the liver and onions, (My chicken dish was okay) It has to be said, that all three dishes were tasty albeit in two cases very little portions. After eating the meals, our waitress asked if everything was okay, and at that point we told her what we thought. She had the good grace to take onboard what we had said, and even admitted that she thought exactly the same as she left the kitchen to bring the food to us. She went on to explain that the pub manager was in the kitchen overseeing the meals onto plates before service was called. On going up to the bar to pay the waitress was there talking to the senior waitress and bartender. And to this person’s credit she did deduct money from all the main courses from our bill.

I thought I might get your attention here, because I certainly didn’t get any attention in the pub. We were served drinks when we asked for our table, and our order was taken swiftly but it was all downhill from there. When our food arrived we were not asked if we would like more drinks. When we had finished our meals we sat with empty plates in front of us. We would’ve quite liked another drink and a pudding but we gave up, paid at the bar and went home. The waitress passed our table several times with plates of food for other tables, the concept of multi-tasking was clearly lost on her as she could’ve easily cleared our plates on the way back past. Once our food had arrived we were invisible. For the price of the food I would’ve expected better quality. This place is going downhill. I used to like coming here but I’m not sure I’ll be back now.

Wow where do I begin, stopped for 2 nights & 1st impressions of my room were not good, after climbing a dangerous set of stairs, obviously the room had not seen a hoover for some time with assorted debris on the floor & a musty smell in the bathroom. I will say that beer in the bar was good although girl behind the bar was more absorbed with chatting to her drunk mate outside, than serving behind the bar. Breakfast was an experience I never want to repeat, from the worst breakfast layout I have ever experienced, initial spread was a jug of orange & a few glasses, no cereals, no fruit, no toast, no other options & when the Limited breakfast did appear it was in a pasta bowl !! - undercooked sausage & bacon, really you couldn't make it up. I elected not to eat there in the evening & certainly wouldn't stop again.

we went for a evening meal at the Green Dragon after looking at there menu on the website FIRST ISSUE don't take any notice of the prices on the menu they are all £3-4 more than that on the pub menu, that's the first thing that should be sorted, the bar staff was pleasant and helpful and a nice pint of Guinness, we ordered are food a rear rump steak for me, and ham egg and chips for my partner who specifically asked for soft runny eggs, SECOND ISSUE when the meals came out the eggs were like concrete hard and over cooked, so we sent it back for them to replace the eggs, my steak was more medium rear, out came the ham egg and chips take two the eggs were just about runny on top and hard below, THIRD ISSUE the chef cant even fry a egg properly, think some training required and management to sort out the menu on the web site very misleading.

We actually had to suggest she go into the kitchen and ask. Food finally arrived about 8.30 and was nice, no complaints about the meals. Another 30 minutes or so to remove the plates. We then asked about a pudding only to be told the kitchen was shut. Very poor service. A shame as the food was nice enough. Staff not at all apologetic that we sat for so long amd no explanation as to why it took an hour and a half for ordinary pub food to come out. Stayed for one night. Very poor welcome from staff member who sounded completely bored showing us to our room. The room itself was just about ok, but with an uninspiring view on to a car mechanic’s yard. The tea cups were stained. Bar service in the evening was mixed. Fabulous student who was delightful and efficient, but the other staff member who had checked us in was still just as miserable. Breakfast next day was utterly vile. We were directed to help ourselves from the breakfast table. There was hardly anything to help ourselves to! No juice or fruit, just cornflakes or very cheap looking muesli and warm milk sitting in a jug. When I picked up the plastic cornflakes dispenser it was dirty and felt slimy. Like I said, the milk was warm. It was the most uninspiring ‘spread’ I’ve ever seen. The individual butter portions were put out in their original catering pack. How many times would this pack be put in and out of the fridge? I dread to think. The tea was a weak pot of one tea bag and the coffee was unpleasant. The cooked breakfast came with toast, but no side plate. There was a selection of jams, but no honey or marmalade. The mushrooms were greasy and indelible; the oil tasted strange. My husband’s fried egg was solid. Mine was just about ok, but I didn’t finish it on account of the strange taste of cooking oil. We had to get our own salt and pepper from another table and the salt pot was filthy. The poorly presented waitress never asked if all was ok. When we left we had to unbolt the front door to get out and said waitress never thanked us for our stay or wished us well, she just told us how to let ourselves out. This place has really changed and not for the better.

We should have turned round and walked out when the staff said we could order food as long as we ordered in the next few minutes as they a large party in! Anyway we were hungry and only wanted basic pub fare. What could go wrong? I ordered the curry of the day. I got the worst curry of all time. The curry was so bland I added salt and pepper to try and make it edible. That didn’t work. It looked like a small amount of chicken with a jar of sweet and sour sauce poured over it but not even that tasty. It was accompanied with bland rice, an ok popadom, Nan bread and mango chutney. However, as my photos will show, the thing described as an onion bhaji was just a blackened lump of …. Old bits from the kitchens deep fat fryer. The staff did offer to replace my bhaji when I showed them but I felt safer declining.

Went for lunch with our children, which included our hungry 1 year old. My wife has been recommended the food here so we thought we would have a nice pub lunch. The moment we walked in we were staired at by the half a dozen regulars at the bar, which is right by the door. This was unpleasant but we tried to ignore it. The lady behind the bar was friendly and told us we could sit anywhere. We chose a table inside as it was drizzly outside. We grabbed a high chair, which wasn't particularly clean but we have seen worse. There weren't any kids menus so I went up to the bar to ask for one which they printed out for me. So far things seemed ok. I went back to our table and we started to choose our food. At this point our hungry 1 year old started to protest and cry and scream at the top of her lungs, as any parent knows hungry babies sometimes do. I went back to the bar to order and found that the attention of the regulars had turned back to us as they complained loudly about us and our baby. I tried to ignore this and ordered our food, paid and sat back down. Whilst we were waiting for our food a couple of the regulars walked passed our table on the way to the toilet. Each one of them glared at us as they did. At this point we felt very unwelcome. We just wanted to eat our food and go. The kid's and my wife's food arrived in good time and they started to eat, but after some time my food still hadn't arrived, so I went up to the bar to check. It turned out the barmaid had missed my meal out of the order. So she placed the order for mine and assured me it would be out as soon as possible and said I could pay for it after eating. I was of course feeling annoyed but mistakes happen and she was trying to rectify this so I sat back down. Our 1 year old had settled down by now and was enjoying her lunch, but regardless of this we were still getting glares when any of the regulars walked by our table. Eventually my food arrived. My burger was so over done all I could taste was char. Nevertheless I was hungry and we just wanted to go so I ate it and paid for it on the way out. As we left we were again glared at by the regulars and my wife and I heard one of them loudly say something unpleasant as the door closed behind us. We have never been made to feel more unwelcome for having children and whilst this was mostly because of the clientele rather than the staff the hostile atmosphere is entirely under the staff's control. If you run a pub restaurant then you should cater for families and should make it clear that you will not tolerate patrons who treat others with disrespect and hostility. We will never go back again and we wouldn't recommend them to any of our friends or their families.

Went for the safe option for pub grub - ham egg & chips - how can you get that wrong! 'Thick cut' ham was thin, limp and what you might expect from a supermarket packet. The eggs were fried with hard yolks and were obviously not fresh as the whites had spread thinly and 'bubbly'. The 'Chef' obviously thought that was acceptable to put on a plate!!. In fairness, the chips & peas were OK. Pointed this out to the waitress, and she said she would 'mention this to the kitchen'. She did offer to take it back, but I had no confidence that the ham was going to improve, or the eggs were going to get any fresher. - she didn't come back. I ate it because I was hungry, but I definitely wont be trying the food again. The table next to me were happy with their meals - so maybe I was just unlucky - or made an unfortunate choice The beer was excellent.

Ate from main menu, prawns over cooked, said mushrooms with sirloin had one! With overcooked peas and a tiny 1/2 tomatoe, skin on chips Not for £15.95! Really disappointing. To top it all sat near stairs to lower floor which stank (which I thought I was imaging but I wasn't!) to be told later on had problem with sewers coming in! Toilets & corridor stank of pee! Couldn't wait to get home £60 not well spent, won't be back - did give us starters for free but my prawns were overcooked anyway! Disappointed wish we'd gone to Whitehorse.....

This is a great little pub in Wellington. The inside looks lovely these days and the staff are all very helpful. Lots on tap to choose from, so if you’re going in for a drink only then I’d definitely recommend. The food really does let it down though. I’d actually much rather pay more for a nice meal than only have to pay £10 and get something I would expect from the Brewery-owned Skylark pub up the road.

A really cosy pub/hotel. The room was spacious and the bed was really comfortable. The owner who served our breakfast was lovely and extremely helpful-really enjoyed meeting her. The breakfast itself was very good too.A few minor points to note-our room didn’t have any soap in it, the road outside is quite noisy if you’re at the front as I think the windows are single glazed and the curtains let a lot of light in if you need/want a dark room.Overall a pleasant stay and would return if in the area again.

Very friendly and welcoming staff, but the cleanliness of the room really let the place down. Considering the pandemic we're experiencing at the moment it was reassuring to see a sign saying the room was cleaned and ready for use.Until I realised there was biscuit crumbs left on the bedside table when I moved the lamp a little, and more biscuit crumbs on the floor, as well as other detritus, small bits of lint, cotton, etc. So it obviously hadn't seen a vacuum cleaner recently. The kettle was still half full of water from previous use, so there's no way that was sanitised, but I wasn't going to use. Half the towels were on the floor next to the toilet, but there was enough on the towel rail for my requirements. I travel with my own sanitiser, so I cleaned the surfaces I was going to use and stayed on them.Have I any faith in their room cleaning and sanitising? No, not a bit. As I was only staying one night and didn't need to spend the evening in the room I didn't bother speaking to the manager. To cap it all the duvet cover was ripped, very professional. Not.Breakfast was okay. I think they were trying to minimise washing up as the toast came on the breakfast plate.Breakfast staff were polite, but one had no mask on and the other made it quite clear to guests that she didn't agree with them.Would I stay again? Very small room, not well cleaned, only an okay breakfast, £85. Probably wouldn't recommend it. I've done my bit to support local publicans and frankly they came up short. It's no wonder the big players, Premier Inn, Travelodge, do so well.I would have expected a better experience all round for £85.Now I think about it, three stars seems generous.

Awful light bite of a baguette slaughtered by peppers and hideously fatty beef. I could not find the baguette. Won't do that again! Not asked about if I liked it, even though the plate was sent back pretty much untouched ☹

Sat down stairs with my family and our friends family, not a bad spot though the stairs are quite dangerous, especially for young/old people. Everyone ordered and the drinks arrived in good time. We waited an acceptable time for the food to start arriving, though it was a bit odd that the adults main meals came out before the starters and more annoyingly, the kids meals... but not the end of the world....My main meal was a fillet steak (most expensive thing ok the menu), ordered with a peppercorn sauce... meal was delivered without the sauce so after waiting 5 minutes, I made my way up stairs to enquire as to where it was...Lady apologised and said it would be down immediately.Made my way back downstairs and Sat in my chair, waited a few minutes and she shouted down that the sauce was in its way. 20 minutes later, when my family and our friends were all finishing their meals my sauce arrived, my meal was cold and it was far too late. No apology and was made to feel like I was in the wrong for not eating a cold dinner... Won’t go back... there are far better restaurants in the area and I didn’t appreciate the attitude of the server after their error...

Easily the nicest pub around these parts. Very friendly staff ( Sarah and Russian lady especially ), with good facilities and reasonable prices. Small menu but the food recommended. Special offer on wine at under a tenner a bottle in Happy Hour.It has a nice courtyard at rear and letting rooms too.

Just had a really lovely dinner at The Green Dragon. Beautifully cooked and fresh. Service was excellent, very friendly and welcoming. Prices reasonable and in keeping with the surroundings. The only small niggle would be the very limited Vegetarian Manu, but my steak was delicious!

We received a lovely friendly welcome. Our little dog was made to feel welcome too. The food was homemade and delicious. Smaller lunch plates were available which were a smaller version of a large portion, great for the ladies or those with a smaller appetite. Real ales and they were local too. We will definitely be going back.

Stopped by to see a friend in Wellington today and she suggested going to The Green Dragon for Sunday Roast. I was glad she did as the lunch for thoroughly enjoyable. They had the choice of beef or lamb and I had the breef. I didn’t have some of the veg due to a following a fodmap diet and only opted the green beans but they made up for this with plenty of potatoes and 2 Yorkshire puddings. They informed me that all the gravy was gluten free which is great as I am gluten free. The beef was nice, non fatty and tasted nice with no grissle. The potatoes were nicely cooked and slightly crispy on the outside and the green bean cooked just right and tasted fresh. It was all presented on a lovely white plate. The staff were lovely and friendly and the atmosphere was good. It appeared a popular location. Definitely recommend.

I Ordered a chicken sandwich and when it arrived it was brown fatty cut offs on stale bread. It was greasy leg and thigh meat it made me heave I couldn’t hold it down. I complained to the bar staff and said I was expecting it to be lean chicken breast... I was told it was breast. I said it’s brown and covered in fat I can’t eat it, it just tasted of cold chicken grease! I was so disappointed it was only meat on bread not as advertised. No salad only a small pot of store bought coleslaw... for £8. I re ordered the cheese sandwich and this was literally cheese, on bread again no salad, only a pot of chutney. Cheese on bread for £7?? This was the third bad meal I’ve had here... as a pub it’s fine for a few drinks, but it’s a very low standard of pub food. There a better places to eat in Wellington.

Just spent the weekend In Wellington visiting relatives, and once again headed straight for the Green Dragon. We love this pub and its the jewel in the Crown of Wellington in our opinion. We wouldn't got anywhere else!! The landlady (sorry don't know your name yet, next time) and Stella and all the staff there create a friendly and lively atmosphere - nothing is too much trouble for them. They are efficient, lively, and so good humoured and give the impression they are having a fun evening too! They are a true example of everything a pub should be. No wonder the pub is full of people having a good evening out and enjoying themselves. Looking forward to our next visit - Red Thai curry - delicious, had it twice this weekend! Menu is varied and something for everyone to enjoy.

Nothing spectacular my partner and I popped in for Sunday lunch. There was no other food on offer it was a choice of chicken, beef or lamb we weren’t given any other menu? I didn’t like that the roast came with only peas and carrots. There was cabbage but no other choice of veg... the roast potatoes were very pale, almost anaemic. My lamb tasted nice but has a thick fat rind all around it but for £8 you get what you pay for. I wouldn’t come here again for a roast dinner. Service was fine, the waitresses were police, our meals came out within about 5 minutes of ordering. This is just standard pub food.

Have stayed here on 4 previous occasions , so i thought it was time i wrote a review they deserve it . Every stay has been has been superb and all rooms we have stayed in have been great . The breakfast is faultless . There is a very cheap car park right across the road . The evening meals are an excellent varied choice and the service superb. They have at least 3 real ales on sale at very competative prices .I would recommend staying there to any one , the staff are great .

We had a meal here on Saturday night, it was busy and there was 15 of us but our food was really good, it all turned up together and was very good. I did expect to wait and have our food turn up separately because there was so many of us but that wasn’t a problem. I can definitely recommend the steak. I’m gluten intolerant but the staff were very helpful and advised me what I could have.We also had my grandson’s christening buffet here on the Sunday and again the food was plentiful and excellent (and I even had quite a choice of gluten free food), also everything is reasonably priced and the food is plentiful.

A most comfortable and enjoyable one night stay on our way down to Cornwall. The room was spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed and power shower in the equally clean bathroom. Dinner was nicely cooked and presented by friendly and attentive staff. There was a good choice on the menu to cater for all tastes.

Recently, and sadly, standards have gone down, and prices have gone up. The place is cold and no longer the cosy pub it used to be. Quality of food and portion sizes have declined.

Lovely place to sit and watch the world go by. Had a lovely coffee and rabebit. The rabebit bread was very doughy and left a claggy feeling. Shame as I'd treated by friend and he said the same.

Table was booked for 2.30 after being changed from 12.30. We were made to wait until 3.45 before we were seated. All because of a function upstairs. Food was awful it was like we had the last bits of food for the day. Dry potatoes, tough meat, horrible flavour on the vegetables. Definitely won’t be returning.

Two meals this week. 1st, my usual nourishment salad, increased in price and became a small plate of houmous with some squash and bits on top, absolutely disgraceful. Never again. 2nd, Vegan burger, not as described really, a potato cake with a few corn kernels and grated carrot, presumably taken out of the freezer and grilled, horrid. The staff stated, they have no control over what is delivered?excuse me?a chef that can't bring together some beans, lentils whatever and produce a nutritional burger for veggie/vegan customers? Never again. Such a shame, I've been going there regularly for many years. Ring of bells for me next time.

Disappointing experience. Went for lunch with my son and his partner. They are both vegan with wheat intolerance so they ordered the gluten free vegan brunch only to be told that the toast that came with it was not vegan. I queried why it was included as part of a gluten free vegan brunch if it wasn't but was just met with a shrug. My son said he couldn't therefore have the toast so could he have extra of one of the other items in the brunch only to be told no that wasn't possible. We ended up having to pay extra for a side order to supplement the brunch. I would have expected either a reduction on the price or the side order to be free but paid full price for the brunch with a main item missing... Won't be returning.
