Very disappointed with the food and service. Rare steak came out well-done which I struggle with when it's £33.00 for a sirloin. One waitress was lovely, the other was very frosty. Waited a while for the new steak.that obviously hadn't been rested. Cocktail was 10/10 but over all we all left pretty disappointed.

Nice environment for an expensive pint..!

As a pastry chef of over 40 years and a foodie I jumped at the chance of visiting this venue for the recent pudding club. It was local to me, a 4 star hotel and the pictures on the website looked good. What could possibly go wrong? Well, pretty much everything. When we arrived, the tables outside had empty glasses and used ashtrays on them. Curb appeal? First impressions? Nil points. As we were a little early we had drinks while we were waiting, which we took to a table. The surface of the table was sticky and had not been cleaned down properly, the glass screen had dirty splash marks on it and there were cobwebs on the window sill. Basic items which would never occur if a proper cleaning program was in place! There were three or four staff congregating at the bar having a good animated chat which was very noisy. Customers can chat and laugh - staff should not. Their time would be better spent ensuring a clean and welcoming environment. The meal itself started well enough. We were promised a light main course. It consisted of Orzo pasta, summer greens and pesto with chicken breast. It was a nice start. The advertising claimed this would be followed by 5 different desserts all served with a choice of cream, ice-cream or custard. The first dessert was a mango/passion fruit fool and was not bad. The other four came on one plate and were of poor quality. The panna cotta tart was a tiny finger cut from a large tart and was too firm for this type of dessert. The macaroon had something so hard in the middle I couldn't cut into it with my spoon, it was small and could not be described as a dessert in any way. The chocolate cremeux was quite firm and again, very small. Worst of all was the doughnut, which again is not a dessert. They were underproved and not soft and light as they should be. My partners one had no jam in it at all. A small bowl of jam was brought eventually but this is not really the same as cutting in and seeing jam ooze out. The staff did not seem to be able to explain what was in anything, including the cocktail, which was overly sweet. When the cream, ice-cream and custard did not arrive, we asked where it was. The waitress said she would go and find out. She returned from the kitchen with the reply, we don't bother with that anymore! As we left after three hours or so, we saw the glasses on the tables out the front finally being cleared. The whole experience smacks of untrained or lazy staff with an indifferent attitude to customer satisfaction as well as being quite frankly, dishonestly advertised. Both my partner and I feel were greatly disappointed by the evening. This is a pity, because with more effort this could become a regular and sought after event. By the way, I'm not sure why it is called the pudding club as none of the offerings were actually puddings. Try going to the hotel in the Cotswolds who invented this concept and see it done properly!

Lovely staff and lovely food! Everything all priced reasonably, and the service was great. I had the squid to start, followed by the chicken breast, which were both absolutely lovely. I can’t wait to come again.

We were really disappointed by our experience at the Brazz for dinner. The meal was so expensive for the quality and quantity. £14 for small fish and chips that looked small enough to be a child’s portion. £20 for a bowl of pasta with a small portion of Burrata on it. £10 for a tiramisu that clearly just got taken out of the fridge pre made and was dumped in front of my husband! The service wasn’t great either - not very attentive and seemed to just want us to go home and not order dessert or coffees. Normally love the Brazz but the prices and service didn’t live up to previous visits - no wonder it was empty on a Sunday evening when there was cricket on in the town!

Nowhere as nice as the 'original' Castle Hotel restaurant. Disappointing.

Disappointing. Very slow service - didn't bring water till asked and no bread despite a 45 minute wait for mains. Lamb was delicious, as was the treacle tart, but chicken and pana cotta only average. Mains served on vast pile of peas, which seemed unimaginative. Used to be a real treat here; such a shame it's less special.

We ate here one night whilst staying at the hotel, and had a very good meal. There was a mistake with our reservation, but the manger resolved it with pleasant efficiency and seated us at a good table. The menu is varied and the wine list is surprisingly extensive, with many high quality (and expensive) wines as well as a good selection of more reasonably priced bottles. The food was really well cooked and nicely presented, and the service was excellent - everything that you want really! The room had a great atmosphere, and the prices are reasonable for the quality. This is a great place to eat!

My sister and I were looking forward to a pleasant night out at Brazz, which has enhanced reputation due to its connection with the Castle Hotel. To start at with the best bit: the very young staff could not have been more charming , kind, attentive and helpful. However, they would certainly benefit from more training, which of course is up to management. The food was very average and certainly not worth the prices. I could say more but not worth the space. There are other issues. Zero rating - disabled access? Have the owners/management never heard of this? A considerable refurbishment has obviously taken place quite recently, but the toilets are either downstairs or upstairs. We had quite an enjoyable evening because we get on well, we can make fun of shortcomings , the food was edible, the wine , an Alberino delicious but outrageously expensive. On a Monday evening, with so many other places closed, the management might like to reflect on the small number of customers. We won't be returning, and would hesitate to recommend. So sad that this venue with potential can't do better. Disappointed 😞 If I could give 2 and half stars I would.

Tremendous food and service at Brazz last night (and amazing cocktails). Honestly one of the best meals I have had and the staff went to great efforts to make sure we had everything we needed. Thank you. Highly recommend.

We had an enjoyable luncheon. The food was good. Staff were helpful. Patrons were friendly, and the atmosphere was pleasant.

Sad really and although the team were nice this place has lost its sparkle. It is not cheap so why paper napkins and not a fresh flower in sight? The cod was OK but not exciting and I had to ask twice for a beer. Such a shame and we had travelled some distance.

Used to be classy and now it’s just too dear and no service. Came for breakfast - food was mediocre at best - the black pudding was the worst food I have ever tried - it tasted like it had been cooked in petrol. When we were eventually seen and asked when we had finished, I said these exact words to the young waitress and asked her to pass my comments to the chef. Nice came back. Sat waited not offered the bill. When we asked for the bill nothing was said noted or taken off an no apology - £30 plus for dire food. Avoid there are better places in Taunton

Went in for a solo drink to avoid the spoons crowd. Atmosphere was nice and drinks were good.

We had a lovely evening here for my mother in laws birthday. We enjoyed the occasion, the wine was super, service wonderful, a nice place. The food was OK, I'm not sure if it lived up to my expectations though, i was expecting better food.

Arrived at 6.30pm to sit down at 7pm. Waited 45 minutes for our starters mostly OK, however I ordered Fish Cakes, turned out it was one small fish cake in some weird tasting sauce. The fish cake was bland with little or no seasoning. The mains arrived three were OK however the burgers were awful, sloppy and virtually impossible to eat. The Gnocchi again was bland and with a tasteless sauce. This place obviously can't take criticism judging by their reply to Feduptodeath, no customer service skills, instead of apology thy looked up their previous comments on other places and commented on them. If you can't stand the heat, close your kitchen.

Visited Brazz after a lovely evening carol singing in Vivary park. We were shocked by the cost of 2 mulled wines. £16! and they were only 175ml. First and last visit I'm afraid.

One of the best if not the best coffees I’ve had in a long while and the staff were very welcoming.

Lively bar area but the restaurant was quiet and not that busy. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good choice on the menu. Service was a bit slow but there was a big party just in front of us. We had starters ranging from baked camembert to celeriac soup and pork cheek terrine - good belongs and we'll cooked. Our mains of chicken burger, duck and fish and chips were generous and well cooked. Quite expensive for what we had.

Brazz offers consistently high quality food and great service. I visited yesterday after having a rubbish day. The guy behind the bar was really chipper and as it was quiet introduced me to some beers that I wouldn't ordinarily have tried. For food I had the Somerset Chicken Kyiv for main course and the Chocolate Wagon Wheel for dessert. My goodness they are both so flavourful and tasty...in fact I've had them before and this is my second time as I knew it would cheer me up!

We had a lovely meal here, sharing a margarita pizza and the chicken and bacon Caesar Salad. Both were delicious and we highly recommend. I had a very rich and exquisite pudding, but unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of it. Good value to boot.

Very very disappointing. The food was poor, my burger (and one other) seemed like they had freezer burn on the meat and the fries were like bullets. The battered fish had very little fish in it and the poached cod was small and insipid. None of the 15 covers in our group thought their main course was good. The waiting staff are all young but trying hard, being hamstrung by the lack of food quality. The restaurant is also adjacent to the bar and, whenever the external bar door was opened a cold breeze went through the whole restaurant which also detracted from the meal.

I rarely write negative reviews. But today I feel I have to. The design and ambience of Brazz is lovely. Beautiful decor and lighting. On the other hand the food…. I cannot comment for non vegan food but paying £18 for a single courgette fritter the size of a ping pong ball and half an uncooked courgette (complete with stalk) sprinkled with pea shoots and a balsamic glaze is simply not cool. It didn’t come with any substantial side, no protein, or carbohydrates. Simply half a crunchy courgette with a small fritter (which was actually very nice). Perhaps make the fritter the main and the courgette a side, roasted with spices? The dessert I was grateful to see- a plum cheesecake! But no. It was a raw yoghurt / granola tasting breakfast bowl that cost £10. It’s really easy to make plants delicious and most places do. Please please work on your plant based offering - the cost was shocking for something that was so basic, and quite frankly I could have made at home… but wouldn’t because it’s not 1972

The atmosphere was good, the setting in the centre of Taunton is great. I ranked it 3 out of 5 as I ordered a decent bottle of wine and the waitress didn’t know how to open it. The wine was poured before I got the chance to taste. The food we had was average. A chicken Kiev a salad and pizza. Salad was drenched in sauces and what seemed like unhealthy stuff. Sorry for being so critical but important to say.

Been coming to the castle for 5 years and can vouch for solid consistent quality and service . Would never wish to stay or eat elsewhere.

When arriving we could not tell if it was even open it was lifeless . We arrived as a party of 8 and was then stuffed in to a booth cramed in on seats with dips in. So I had to sit on a cush And waittress looked at us and larger table then just walked away as if didn't want the bother of asking if we would like to have a more comfortable table. When I asked about disabled toilet was told only downstairs or had to walk around to hotel entrance I'm on cruches after a knee replacement. So food arrives some ok but mine I went to cut my bread and my knife got struck and it stood up I know this sounds a little over the top but it's true I had to ask my partner to pull the fork out and cut the crusts off the bread. My son had pancakes????? A sponge cake cooked in a frying pan and when it was cut in to raw batter seeped out. Then two bacon baps so dry that thay were not eaten. So again asking a second waittress and told I could access the toilet via a door to hotel I briefly what I think was a manager talked about this and was told I will tell the chefs???? THIS WAS MY SONS WEDDING DAY BRAKFAST. She was sat with her bouquet.carnt be any more clear. This young couple chose this place to celebrate and this is what thay got.after we had to listen to staff hanging around the bar watching a lad with long curling hair flicking it all over the bar area .girls just about braking a smile on her face and being stared at. I have worked in 5star and 3 star hotels and this is the worst. Staff hanging around gossiping. manager not bothered about the complaint and raw food.mind blowing. And to be honest not that great to justify the price of the food. I am more upset for my son and his wife.thay both have worked hard and long hours to get a nice day together for all of us as a wedding party.and to have to leave so much food .my son did not make a fuss so as not to embarrass anyone but could see the disappointment in his face was upsetting but proud that he was thinking thanking of others unlike the Brazz. I want to call them but after the lazy attitude i dont see the point of it the manager had chance to act on this when we were there.this place needs attention to detail big time. Bet I Don't get a nice response or a reply.

As vegetarians my wife and I often have challenges eating out. The brunch at Brazz’s was excellent. The staff is very friendly

I had heard good reports about Brazz but had always been put off by the untidy, dirty walkway outside. However, we were looking for somewhere in Taunton for a special occasion, so thought we would go for lunch and check it out. I can’t say that we had a warm welcome and although the member of staff who served us was pleasant enough, her demeanour was very perfunctory rather than genuine. When she took our order she didn’t write anything down, so we weren’t too surprised when one of the dishes we ordered came out wrong. I had ordered the Summer Nourishment Bowl with salmon, but I was served chicken instead of the salmon. To be honest I didn’t actually mind, so I told the waitress not to worry. However, I feel sure that had I asked them to put it right they would have done with efficiency. My partner had the Full English Breakfast and said it was the best he’d had in a long time. The food was delicious, a good size portion and well presented. Initially there wasn’t much of an atmosphere in the place, but the background music was good and as it got busier there was a nice buzz. The modern decor is in contrast to that of the hotel, which was refreshing, and we had a comfortable and relaxing lunch. We liked the vibe of the place and are now planning to return with a group of friends for a special lunch.

Our family had a wonderful evening! The service was brilliant. Lily was an amazing host and made sure everything was perfect. Ben made the most amazing cocktails and even surprised us by smoking the cocktail. Would highly recommend to anyone celebrating an event or just wanting and enjoyable meal in Taunton.

Decided to go out for dinner with my family, it was amazing, they offered many different options for food, they offered gluten free options which was brilliant. Very friendly environment and I would highly recommend this place to anyone, felt thoroughly looked after by Amber, she was so welcoming. Will definitely be coming back in future.

Staff was friendly, but ....We ordered the bacon burger as we needed a quick bite before a concert. Not happy with the food at all, extremely dry meat ,no garnish of any kind on the plate, just a dry bun with a burger and some chips in a seperate pot. A small salade doesn't cost a fortune,but does so much more to a plate then this. A big disappointment.

Plenty of space inside and good variety in the menu. A bit overpriced although some of the dishes are quite special. Recommend trying the desserts. Fish and chips could improve with higher quality chips.

Very nice restaurant. We had a margarita pizza and a fish and chips. The place is really cozy and the staff efficient and helpful. Fish very crispy in the outside and chips well done. The pizza was really tasty.

Wonderful place to spoil yourselfs

Always my GoTo for coffee when I visit Taunton. It is part of The Castle Hotel, so not the cheapest, but it is spacious inside, and has good quality outdoor furniture when the weather is warm & sunny. Nice spot to chill out, and very central to explore the town after a caffeine shot.

The food was amazing and in great portions. Service and staff were also really good. It's a pity we got seated right next to the kitchen however especially since there were plenty of other tables available which spoiled the ambiance.

Had a few beers and a cocktail. Great service, fun staff and lovely decor! Worth a visit.

Had some poor experiences in the past, but David addressed them and we recently visited for Valentines and despite being fully booked up, they absolutely nailed it with the food. We will be back 👍

Really pleasantly surprised by this brasserie. I had the Christmas turkey club sandwich and my partner had an open salmon sandwich on sourdough. Both were very, very good! Great fresh flavours and a huge portion of fries to share. Rounded off with attentive service and a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere.

Nice bar. Probably only place worth getting a cocktail in Taunton. Had Really good Margherita from bartender Gareth. Worth a visit.

Good night with friends and colleagues bar person was excellent yet busy.

Don't recommend it especially the ceasar salad, chicken was pink had to send it back. The anchovies were hiding and all I had was a large plate of lettuce! Refused to pay £16 for it. My husbands burger was on par with McDonalds so do not recommend. Service was great, food poor and over priced. Won't be eating there again.

Second time enjoying a dinner and drinks with my friends at Brazz and definitely not the last time. Csilla always made us feel very welcomed and her customer service skills are impeccable. Always looking after us to ensure we have everything we need and very responsive. Food is very good and the quality justifies the price we paid. I have been around all the restaurants and by far the best food is at Braz. Thank you Csilla and Brazz😊

For a party of nine we was put on a table that was suitable for six people, we was put right by the front door so all I could smell was the people smoking outside all evening. The first girl that came to the table looked like she'd already had enough of her shift, not so much as a smile, however, Carris our waitress for the evening was good and so was the food. I'll only give two star's as the start of the evening just showed a complete lack of respect to our party, if I'd have booked it I would have walked out and gone elsewhere. Real shame.

31 / 5/2022 Took an hour to get food . Even though the restaurant was almost empty . Food was bland. Burger was nothing special , no salad ect. . Awful food and expensive. Will not be going back .also we had to pay for parking in their car park.

This evening we treated our family to a drink before dinner at Brazz. We left feeling robbed and not very well looked after.

An excellent blend of old world tradition and modern world comfort. We had drinks and lunch in the Brazz. A giid selection of cocktails and wines. Very good food and and friendly helpful team to serve it all.

I came into a Brazz this morning to find the staff wonderful. It’s not always easy with a wheelchair but I couldn’t be more impressed with their help and welcome. Well done Brazz for making a simple pleasure accessible. You will be our new coffee/hot chocolate stop.

Service was a bit lacklustre, but not too bad and the food was tasty and reasonably priced.

First time I have visited and dined out at Brazz on 2nd October. Enjoyed the whole experience. Was there with a small group of work friends and supplier reps. Menu selections were good and varied, and the starter platters were almost enough on their own. So much provided. Tasty main courses too. I struggled to finish mine and I had a chicken and bacon Caesar salad. Service to the table was excellent and the staff very accommodating and friendly.

I really enjoyed this place but the prices were a little on the steep side. Would definitely recommend though :)

Lovely restaurant and brillant food. Service was excellent. We were made to feel special throughout. Only downside was that there was a long wait for food and with young children that is always difficult but we were a large table so i guess it was understandable. Overall though i would thoroughly recommend this place

We visited while on a trip away to the area. Staff were incredibly accommodating and allowed us to sit inside with our dog. Drinks and food were fantastic, would 100% come back again if were in the area.

Lovely staff for both Dinner and Breakfast. Menus excellent. Our starters, mains and breakfast were so good. There was nothing to criticise. Good wines and the meals were very artistic and different.

This was our first meal out (indoors) after lockdown lifting and it was well worth it.The dining area is wide and spacious and the food was of a good standard. I had the 2 course set meal of smoked salmon followed by roast chicken. My wife had asparagus risotto and a Somerset cheeseboard. This was very large so we were glad we only chose this one dessert course.With a tonic water and a pint of Thatchers Gold, the bill was a tad under £60. Recommended.

We had the three-course set menu (£30.00). The meal was washed down with sparkling water and (for me) a large glass of an excellent New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc - pricy for Somerset at £11.00, but delicious. All very enjoyable. The restaurant had a real buzz, only days after re-opening, on a Tuesday night in late May. We shall go back when we are in the area.

Having found this restaurant a couple of months ago we have now been back 4 times and each time with different people! Each time the standard of the food and service have been excellent! I love their excellent cocktails and ambiance of this restaurant!

Food was excellent, three adults very happy with our meals. Venison and cod mains highly recommended. BUT watch out for the wine list - the cocktail menu lists some wines and a couple at the top of the page show price per bottle. Further down the page there is a less obvious additional subheading where prices are for half bottle. We were going to have 2 large glasses then noticed that it appeared that a bottle was better value so we changed our order. The actual prices came off a longer wine list that we were never shown Very misleading, verging on s con, and spoilt what was otherwise an excellent meal.

My friend has just moved to Taunton and was recommended this restaurant. Even though just after lockdown the ambiance was buzzy. I ordered steak and chips and my friend ordered cod. The steak was done as I requested (medium rare) and was really tasty. The chips were thick cut, crisp and hot. The cod was thick and beautifully presented with the other vegetables. My friend said it was juicy and she particularly liked the creamy potato. We also indulged in dessert - I had the rhubarb and my friend the banana parfait. Both went down a treat. As a non-drinker I was also pleased to see a couple of non-alcoholic cocktails on the drinks menu. I chose the passion fruit one which was delicious and not too sweet. The staff were friendly, polite and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Delightful lunch whilst visiting Taunton on holiday. This place has a lovely atmosphere and excellent staff, who are also very friendly and accommodating. The menu is a bit different from some of the generic bistros with some interesting choices, as well as some of the standard favourites. Our food was excellent and the bread board was huge with absolutely fantastic home-baked bread. All in all, a most enjoyable experience.
