Evening meal for two, for our 27th Wedding Anniversary. Choose the White Hart for its excellent reviews and it didn't disappoint. It was a fantastic menu, excellent tasting food and fantastic waiting staff. A massive thank you from us both. The atmosphere was great. We definitely will be back again

Heard good things about this place so decided to have a ride out and see for ourselves. The moment we walked in we were greet ed by polite and friendly staff, the food we ordered was fabulous along with the wine and what great value for money too. The whole evening was lovely and we’ll definitely be going back and recommending it to our friends. Plus we had the added bonus of a very pleasant conversation either the main man who was a joy to chat with Keep up the good work guys, you’ve got a gem of a place there See you soon

Highly recommend this restaurant. The food was delicious and beautifully cooked. A starter of tempura courgette flower stuffed with goat's cheese followed by a Sri Lanklan aubergine dish (including hogweed foraged locally by the chef) and elderflower pannacotta and rhubarb. Heavenly! Some of the best, most inventive vegetarian food I 've had in ages. Worth going out of your way to visit this restaurant. A real find!

We stayed here for a family wedding nearby. The hotel is quaint and all the floorboards creak but that is part of its charm. We had an excellent meal on the first evening - I had the fish dish, my husband had steak and my brother-in-law had the pasta dish and all were delicious. We were told they have a new chef - he really pulled out all the stops and delivered a meal worthy of Masterchef! The staff were very friendly and went the extra mile to help us.

Disappointed. We arrived at the hotel to a building site / car park , but we did manage to park there ok . On checking in there seemed some confusion as it took a little while . We were then informed that they were not serving food as they had no chef ,we were advised to go across the road to the Bear inn if we wanted an evening meal . Which we did but we were very lucky to get a table there as it very busy . We were then shown to our room ,via a lot of stairs and corridors .( A bit maze like ) . Our room was very basic not like any of the pictures on the web site . Mould in the bathroom on the wall and ceiling. Bed was comfortable . The continental breakfast was ok , crosssiants ,cereal , toast and hot drinks . I don’t think we would go back .

Went for a Mothers Day Lunch and we were told that chef was catching up on orders. 1 hours and 20 minutes later the food finally arrived. It was obvious that some of the items had been sitting around a while and the whole meal was like one on a bad Toby Carvery day. The front of house staff did what they could and we were only charged for half the meal but the whole experience wasn't great.

This is a comfortable and unfussy venue for a meal with a menu that looks as if it will satisfy food lovers. Unfortunately perhaps on the night we were there the chef was off. Nothing felt quite right, lacking in much flavour and either over or undercooked. Not sufficiently bad to complain about, but not much to praise, although at least it was not too pricey, and the staff were friendly.

Booked to stay the night with breakfast. Surprised there was no cooked breakfast. The room was in obvious need of renovation. The shower, freezing or boiling. The towel hoop dislocated from the door it was hanging on. The fan in the bathroom, noisy. I slept ok but it felt quite 3rd rate. If you need a cheap stay, this is it, but don't expect wonderland. PS. When booking in the bar had a speaker on it at full volume. It was hard to tell what the member of staff was saying. I did wonder if they had a hearing loss to need it so loud; if not they will have soon

After bringing family to visit in Feb 2022 I was more than nervous after their diabolical experience but hearing things have changed we thought we’d give the White Hart a second chance. How thrilled we were that we did! Firstly the staff engage, we had a warm and friendly welcome and we given plenty of time to look over the menu and wine lists. We asked for some amendments for our daughter and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. When the food arrived we were blown away! Everything is fresh and home made nothing was too much trouble and the atmosphere was delightful. In our party we ate the pigeon breast, baked Camembert, blade of beef, fish and chips, toad in the hole, spotted dick and the cheese board. We will certainly visit again and are relieved to finally have a welcoming, CLEAN restaurant/ pub in our town. They do good food very well. Well worth a visit! Thank you for a wonderful evening

We have never visited Wiveliscombe before. My elderly Mum of 98 and I came to Wiveliscombe for lunch. We entered the restaurant through steps. I asked if they did sandwiches for lunch and was told yes and to find a table. I helped Mum up the steps and then went back for her wheelchair. We sat at the table for a good 5 mins. No one came. I then went to the bar and asked for a menu. Was told they are around here somewhere. I was given 2 and went back to our table. On closer inspection I had been handed a Sunday lunch menu. I returned to the bar to be told it’s the same menu. I said we wanted to have sandwiches and there were none on this menu. Waitress took the menus and said someone would come to our table. Another 5 mins passed. Mum and I then visited the toilets. When we returned to our table the waitress had replaced the Sunday lunch menus again. We had had enough. Time spent 20 mins waiting and wasted. Achievement- none. No one came to see us. We put our coats on and we left back down the steps and carrying Mums wheelchair. A waitress said enjoy the rest of the day as we left. What a disaster and total disappointment. Wiveliscombe - totally unimpressed. You could do so much better. The traffic light system was also diabolical and several frustrated drivers also agreed. We will not be bothering you again ….. 😡

Had a pleasant surprise the room and bathroom were excellent. Eat in the restaurant, I had the best sirloin steak in years, cooked to perfection. Lindsey was extremely helpful. I was made most welcome by the locals when I finished my wine in the bar. Great laugh. I would certainly stay again if I am in the area, but will ask for a first floor room. The only downfall was there is no breakfast although the website says it does. It would have been 5 stars had there been breakfast. Thank you.

We visited on a Thursday lunchtime. The town was fairly quiet. We looked at all the eateries and selected The White Hart as it offered what appeared to be a lunch menu of excellent value. We were not wrong. We were greeted by a very friendly and attentive barman and selected a table. The lunch menu offers lunches, i.e. not huge dinners which we do not want in the middle of the day. A good selection of pub food in modest, but more than adequate portions for only £6.50 ish. Our gammon, egg and chips was excellent; the chips amongst the very best we have ever eaten. It is worth a detour to visit and we will be back.

We recently visited we our two children we were in the family room which was very spacious , probably one of biggest family rooms I’ve been in ;) . The pub is lovely the bar staff Suzy was fab so helpful and great with the children . From the onset she was so accommodating and friendly and made our check in fab and we had drinks From the bar which were a pleasure . We didn’t eat as there were only food after 6 so we went over the rd which we did spend more time there because of the park but if the white hart would of had a park we would definitely spent ,more time there . In the mornimg the breakfast was beautiful , all homemade and the waitress Lindsey was amazing . She was so helpful , friendly and I cannot praise her enough. These two staff were a credit to this hotel :) .The only negative thing I would say is there was a larger guy (bar man ) one night and he was dam rude and made me very uncomfortable with my young child , he stated my boy was annoying and people had complained about him which was a Blatant lie. This resulted in our final day we spend it over the road due do his manner Definitely would not return if he was on the bar . Such a shame he let down the hotel .

Iv been in for just a beer and the management won’t even acknowledge I’m even there. Very very rude. I’d not eat sleep or even drink there. First impressions as we walked into the pub were of a group of loud men swearing in the bar. The step to the reception area (part of the bar) was chipboard and there were doors which were similar. We had to drag out cases up 3 flights of stairs to the 3rd floor, where we noticed that the carpet was worn close to one of the single beds. The shower curtain (what hotel uses a shower curtain these days?) was grubby at the bottom hem, the bath had a chip in it and the net curtains were worn where, presumably, previous guests had opened the window catch without moving the curtain aside. On the positive side though, the bathroom was clean and had no bad smells, the beds had fresh crisp white linen and the towels were white and thick. The beds were also very comfortable as were the two pillows provided. The carpark and approach to the pub was rough gravel which made it hard work to get the cases from the car to the hotel.

Recently stayed at this beautiful pub that's tucked away in the town of Wiveliscombe just of the M5. Before booking I had never heard of the town, but I am glad I did. My only regret was not staying longer!!

Spent two nights here in the family room as a mini break on our way to our main holiday destination. Room 10/10, Service 9/10, Breakfast 8/10. Lovely recreation ground and park 5 mins up the road, and a heated outdoor pool. Would definitely stay here again.

The accommodation is amazing! Functional yet true to its orgins with charm warmth and character. The rooms are so lovely with all facilities required for our two night stop over break. Staff are friendly and polite and happy to stop for a chat and offer ideas of places to go. The breakfast was amazing a feast of local produce. We had the full English with the most mazing sausages and bacon. Also a selection of toast and cereals and drinks.

28 of us gathered for a 2 course meal on Friday. The service was efficient and friendly, the food excellent and plentiful (masses of vegetables) and a work of art pudding to finish with! Altogether a very good experience and atmosphere.

We popped in for a breakfast for the first time and we've lived in the village for 15 years. Service was excellent. We had poached eggs on toast and also some gluten free toast with Jams and marmalades. Tea was good, only complaint was the coffee, didn't taste the best, keen to come back now for dinner.

Found the White Hart easily, one of the more prominent buildings in Wiveliscombe. First ompression not good, outside of building a bit shabby, with a group of smokers huddled outside the front door. Drove into the potholed and rough carpark containing an abandoned MGB and various rubbish.

Just got back from a fabulous weekend here with hubby. Our room was at the back and although we overlooked the rear access alley when you looked up all we saw were fields and it was lovely!

From the moment when we stepped inside to a cheery welcome, to the moment when we eased our groaning stomachs outside after a wonderful meal it was a great evening. Their own-brewed beer was smooth, light and very palatable, they introduced us to a new and very enjoyable cider, all four dishes that we tried from the specials board were amazing. The butternut squash risotto under the pheasant breast was creamy and rich and the kale buttery, tender and delicious. The venison steak could have been cut with a spoon it was so tender and how often do you get salsify as an accompaniment? The other dishes, a Southern-fried chicken dish and a burger were also excellent and served with a great array of sauces and sides.

We are staying in the area with our caravan and this was recommended for a place to eat. Neither of us were disappointed. I am one of the most fussiest people to please when it comes to food and on this occasion I was unable to find anything to fault. The venison steak off the special board was the best I have ever had, just cooked to perfection. The chef here really does deserve some serious recognition. The young lad who waited on us was also very good at making sure we were well looked after. This place is really going to take some beating, definitely top of my list of places worth eating at. Top marks all round from both of us, thank you

Given the reviews my husband and I were surprised to find the White Hart unfriendly and uninviting. Your experience depends entirely on who is working, we popped in on Saturday to scout places for our anniversary dinner the following evening. There was a lovely lady behind the bar who was a total contrast to our experience on the Sunday, we were made to feel like we had intruded on a private party, after standing at the bar and simply being looked at by what we assumed was another patron, the man finally identified himself and asked if we would like a drink, we were treated as an inconvenience and whilst I appreciate it was a sunday out of season, the atmosphere was so univiting we finished our drinks and left.

This pub is friendly and welcoming, the area is lovely and only a short drive to coast which was perfect for us. The bed was a 10/10 lovely sheets and mattress. However the bathroom was dated but for the price that's FINE with us!

It's in the right place in the middle of town but, first off, the car park needs to be sorted out and some level approaches put in.The entrance to the hotel from the car park, (after you've passed the Pizza bar) leaves a lot to be desired. It's dirty, dusty and full of cobwebs and peeling paint. It's a steep climb to the bedrooms, particularly if you're on the 2nd floor. The room was "OK" even if a tight squeeze to get round the bed itself. Plenty of tea / coffee available but make sure you get a TV that works. A small bathroom but it DID have amenities, which was good news! The breakfast was excellent and scores 10 / 10. We needed a stopover on our way further West and this fitted the bill. Yes, it's OK but certainly could do better with a lick of paint and some good strong hoovering!

Lovely place to sit and watch the world go by. Had a lovely coffee and rabebit. The rabebit bread was very doughy and left a claggy feeling. Shame as I'd treated by friend and he said the same.
