This is a great bar for food and drinks - good atmosphere and fantastic decor. Really nice cocktails

We all had Sunday lunch, which was delicious. Very generous portions and wonderfully pink roast beef. The staff were careful to check that we were all happy with rare beef when we ordered it and kindly served some slightly more well done for one of our party. One of our party was in a wheelchair and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.

The atmosphere was fab, the place was full even though it was mid Jan, and the food, wow!! We had the mushrooms on crumpets with truffle butter to start then one of our party had the lamb which which looked divine with creamy mashed potato, my husband and I had the steak, which was so soft & succulent you could cut it with a butter knife. The portions were just right and everything was cooked to perfection. The staff were nice and friendly too. We will be back

The menu was fairly small but very varied and all extremely well done. The food was interesting, well presented and extremely tasty.... " compliments to the Chef!" Sadly, the Bank is not local to our home. Many thanks to all who contributed to our wonderful meal, the best I have had for ages.

An amazing find in Taunton. Friendly staff. Great wines. Great service. Tasty food. You don’t need to be central for a good meal. Go off the beaten track and you will find The Bank. You will not be disappointed

Finding somewhere good for Sunday lunch has got more difficult as many restaurants are closed, however the Bank does a very enjoyable lunch at a fair price. The service is excellent you get a generous portion of vegetable and the main and starter dishes are really top quality. It has become a regular event for us and we hope it will be able to continue its good work,

A really fabulous roast chicken dinner. Meat and vegetables cooked to perfection. Reasonable price too. A bit of a wait for the meal but it was very busy and most certainly worth waiting for. Can't wait to visit again next time I am in Taunton.

Wow! What a treat! We tend to try out the Bloody Mary's on all our trips away - always in hopes of finding the best bloody mary of all time. We have a contender here! William, with his apprentice Albie, produced truly magnificent Bloody Mary's. It was like enjoying the artistic triumph of Paul Cezanne - bold, but with layers of subtlety. You could see William took great pride and care in his work and we were happy to enjoy the fruits of his labour. The place has a lovely chilled vibe. The sharing platter we enjoyed on the terrace was superb and staff were very friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. Highly recommended.

Well it was delicious lol We arrived on a very hot evening and were shown upstairs to our table they had doors open on a open air tabled area so the air was circulating the young waiting stafff were attentive and brought us ice water white we had requested and keep bringing us ice which we were grateful for we order a house own brand g&t which was delicious!!! The food was lovely I had a starter of crap and belly pork go mains my husband had a chicken and truffle scotch egg and pigeon which he loved my husband had the chocolate fondant the best he’s had !!! Well don to all the bank staff we will be back

Called in here on the off chance and were welcomed and found a table. The food was excellent: vegetables all fresh and perfectly cooked, the fish beautifully succulent. The restaurant was full by the time we left so I think we were lucky. Recommended

Amazing Sunday lunch accompanied with great service and atmosphere, this place is wonderfully cosy for winter dining. The roast had so much flavour especially the potatoes crisp and fluffy in the middle. Meat cooked to perfection. We had a large table for a family birthday. The service was great. All the meals came out in a short period of time considering there was so many of us this was excellent. 19 covers not one dissatisfied customer. The mains were cooked to perfection, well done team. This was our first visit to The Bank. Easy to book online.For health reasons I have been going to Bristol. Our friends have been most helpful as I cannot drive for the moment and they visited me in hospital and provided transport for me to attend appointments. This was my way of saying 'thank-you'The atmosphere at The Bank was very congenial. The bar was smart and the choice of beer, wine and sift drinks etc..was excellent and service was ver6y friendly and welcoming.We went upstairs to eat. The menu was not extensive but still had a fair deal of choice. I had pan-fried scallops, pea puree and parma ham shard for a starter, pan-fried cod, crushed chorizo potatoes, gazpacho sauce, asparagus and samphire, ending with mango and lemon sorbet. A very delicious meal, beautifully presented and prepared. I enjoyed it so much. Others had Crispy Quails Eggs, Rocket, Croutons and Fig Relish or Pork & Rabbit Scotch Egg; mains were 10oz Sirloin Steak, Dauphinoise, Asparagus, Grilled Tomatoes, Shropshire Blue Cheese Sauce and Roasted Mediterranean Vegetable Strudel, Tuscan Potatoes, Cherry Tomato & Red Onion Compote. Everyone was so engrossed in their meal that conversation ceased for some time! I had a glass of Californian Zinfandel Rose which was excellent.We will go again but save the next visit for a special occasion. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant if you are in or visiting Taunton.

We called in thinking we wouldn’t get a table as we didn’t book. It was that nice we were surprised we didn’t have to book to be honest. 3 of us had the Sunday roast (lamb and chicken) and 2 had the burger and the little one had chicken strips. Those who had deserts loved them. Would definitely return and I think we’ll book ahead next time as we must have been lucky getting a table today. One of the best meals we’ve had since moving here 2.5 years ago.

We wanted a very simple wedding dinner and chose The Bank, as we had always enjoyed our meals there. We had 28 guests so we’re able to book the whole of the upstairs dining area. The food was superb. It came out on time and was hot, an achievement for so many. The service was second to none. From our first contact we were treated really well and our dinner went so well that I cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you for the best evening.

If you want some good wine, great craft beer and an up market and friendly atmosphere then this is definitely the place to come.

Our second visit to this really nice restaurant. Service and food just as good as the first time. We both had the steak with roasted tomatoes asparagus and lyonnaise potatoes. The steak was very tasty indeed. The old bank building provides a pleasant environment so all in all a very good service. We will be back

A friend and I ate here on the off chance. It is half restaurant, half bar. We ate upstairs in a relaxing open space. The service was quick and efficient.

We booked the bank as it was our anniversary and used to be our “ go to” restaurant many years ago ( the sanctuary). We were a table of 4 and seated upstairs. The menu was excellent and the food of a high standard and well presented. A good selection of wines and excellent friendly, but not intrusive, service. An excellent evening with friends and a great atmosphere.

So pleased we found The Bank for lunch last Friday. We usually go to Zizzi, but felt like a change and were not disappointed. It was the most delicious lunch we have had for a long time. We were visiting Taunton for the night so used TA to find a meal for the evening. Headed to The Bank as the reviews were very good. Found it tucked away in a side street and our hopes were up. Had we found a hidden gem?

The food here is great, really good quality and something a little different to a standard restaurant. The staff are very attentive and really friendly & accommodating. However, it is very small - downstairs in the bar area can become cramped if busy or if there are couple of larger groups. We were seated upstairs, I felt the tables were all very close together, meaning it didn’t feel like an intimate setting as you are very aware of the neighbouring tables.

Been to The Bank for lunch today. I didn’t even know it was there as it’s hidden down a side street just opposite Debenhams but it’s a great little find. Service was excellent, food was high quality with a wide variety on the menu and Moor Beer is a great pint! They do a lunch menu with 2 courses for £15 or 3 for £18. Very clean restaurant and toilets and a great ambience. We went Saturday lunchtime and it wasn’t too busy. Will definitely go back.

We have eaten here several times since moving to the area and we like this place the staff are great the food excellent and the boss Jemal (not sure if thats the right spelling) is spot on always checking and chatting to the guests

Took family for a pre Christmas meal on Saturday. We all had the lamb Wellington and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The lamb was cooked to perfection, lovely and tender, served with tasty roasted root vegetables and cauliflower cheese. The service was also excellent and will definitely eat here again.

Me and my friend came for dinner and we were very surprised with this place. It was just perfect from the beginning to the end. the lady who worked at the bar was very professional and looked after us extremely well. Food was delicious and nicely presented. We enjoyed a very good lunch choosing from the lunch set menu. All the dishes were very tasty, well presented and good sized portions. The Relaxed atmosphere enabled our party time to catch up. Smart decor and convivial surroundings with good food, highly recommended.

We have eaten here before and always enjoyed it. On the spur of the moment, we decided to again last Thursday. My wife is vegan, and there wasn't a main she liked. So, they immediately made her one from scratch on the spot. She loved it, and her soup starter. My crab cakes starter was excellent and my salmon main was the best fish dish I can ever remember. Good service, lovely venue, excellent beer range. Al fabulous.

What a great place! My partner and I visited on a Friday evening and we were lucky enough to not have to book a table. A lovely welcome and a charming bar area where we sat and enjoyed the atmosphere. We were then shown upstairs to the dining space and were sat at a lovely table by the window. The food was great, so was the service, it was refreshing to have smart adults serving rather than youngsters. The venue is a real gem, immaculately presented, fresh and overall excellent. A new favourite !

What a wee gem. Unassuming from the outside. Great decor inside. Ironically the 1 star rating for not catering for smokers was what made us chose this eatery! !! Clean warm and welcoming. Good food . Looking forward to going back.

Firstly, the outdoor area is a small terrace only and you can't even smoke out there. So, I had to keep going out on to the street and I couldn't take my cider out there while I had a smoke! Secondly, the food is too fancy. The chef seems to care more about what the food looks like than how much you get.

Oh Jameel (please forgive my spelling if inaccurate) I hope the lacklustre experience was because you weren't there. Whoever was overseeing your establishment did not have their eye on the ball. We haven't been for a while but loved what you did in the Ring of Bells and had appreciated the changes you have made at the Bank. Disappointing that your 'front of house / waitress' was so synthetic - I expected her to ask "Been anywhere nice on your holidays" while looking over my shoulder - kind of like a hairdresser would :( and certainly not engaging with us, her diners. The plates were not cold, merely cool and my portion size of fish was less than I would have served as a starter. Plenty of crushed new potatoes but I have never been served crushed new potatoes which haven't been popped under the grill to just crisp up a bit. My mange tout had not been 'stringed' and was barely cooked and the samphire was woody. Yes, another waitress said "Oh, would you like me to take it back to the kitchen?" Too late, really, and to offer what? Fortieth wedding anniversary celebration a bit of a let down - and a realisation that what used to be a place to visit for a treat isn't any more. Oh, and while I am on the subject ... should you have three staff on the short end of the bar while no-one is customer facing in the main area? Apologies for the negativity but I was a bit disappointed. I hope you had a god holiday - try to put a deputy in place before you go away again.

We booked an early meal at 6pm on Saturday, I was not feeling my best and wanted some plain food, the waitress said " if we have it you can have it cooked and served however you want even if it is not on the menu." and she was true to the word, we were a party of four who all ordered different things, and all the food that was served was superb and very tasty, my wife had a starter of pear and blue cheese tart converted to a main course with salad, mine was carrot and coriander soup followed by corn fed chicken, and our friend s had the backed cod and the monk fish. We will definitely eat here agan when we visit our friends in Taunton, well done all the staff, even down to making sure that I was feeling better by te time I left. First Class!!

We had friends coming from out of town so I thought we'd give The Bank a try. I made a reservation for Saturday night, (we haven't been to this location since a very poor experience when it was The Sanctuary).

We were very impressed by the whole experience. When booking by phone we were asked if we had any dietary requirements. We were greeted well and offered drinks before going to the restaurant. Our waitress Natasha was friendly, attentive and knowledgable. We had four different main courses which were presented beautifully and we returned four empty plates. Desserts were a good portion and delicious. A taxi was happily ordered for us . Altogether a great experience. Would recommend this restaurant which also serves lunches.

Recently ate here. We all enjoyed our meal. Main courses were superb. I felt the choice of starters was unexciting and £6 for bread and olives excessive. Equally the desserts were ok. Creme brulee was fine but certainly no where near the best I have had. The cheeseboard was overpriced too.

We went for lunch the day before we started our cruise, and went for an evening meal the day we came home. Wonderful food - I had ostrich steak on the Saturday evening - and great service. The staff like to get to know their regular customers, and greet them personally when they go there. Vicki even remembers our favourite dishes. Can't speak highly enough about them.

I have visited this restaurant before but not for a while. Helpful and attentive staff - in fact perhaps a little too attentive! We were seated downstairs and it felt very empty as we were only one of two tables although the restaurant upstairs was, we were told, busier.

We needed a meal at short notice and were directed here by a nearby pub not serving foid. Very glad they did. We had a really warm welcome and my unusual intolerance to rapeseed oil was treated as no problem at all, not always the response by any means. I chose longish my husband and sister salmon with linguine. Totally delicious all round. Everything freshly prepared. The menu isn't extensive but from experience this is usually a good sign that it is all fresh and prepared in the kitchen. Service absolutely excellent throughout, I absolutely cannot fault this restaurant, I've already told several friends and we will definitely be back

Double date with some great friends. Loved the food and service nice chilled evening with a great choice of dishes to suit all and a friendly service. Had the black pudding scotch egg to start ( runny yolk = great) and for main I had the sea bass which was beautifully cooked and delicious... thank you for a great night

This is by far my favourite place in town to eat. The food is always amazing,the fact the menu is changed every 6 weeks is great so it's not the same.

Visited the restaurant for dinner yesterday evening 11/06/2018 and was absolutely taken back at how brilliant our whole dining experience was. The staff were all 100% dedicated to making our time at The Bank a pleasant experience. The setting is lovely to dine within. The food was on another level, I had fish which was just so delicious and cooked to perfection also came to the table in great timing and the desert was also smashing, credit must go to the chefs as the food was to the best standard possible. This food and service is similar to what you would experience in some top London Restaurants . Great !

We enjoyed our meal here and the service was excellent. The pea falafel was delicious and the fish was well cooked but rather too many peas on the plate.The cheeses on the board was too warm and some of the cheese were sweating but still delicious.

Very friendly helpful staff, greet you as you enter. The food is excellent, from the starter of fresh mussels (you could tell they were fresh) served in a beautiful creamy garlic and cream sauce with a dash of white wine, not watery at all as some restaurants will be. An antipasti beautifully presented and tasted lovely, to the mains which did not disappoint either, tuna cooked to perfection, and ostrich steak also perfect, not easy with this piece of meat. Then the desert, home made cheesecake, and a good portion of it too. I am a chef and very difficult to please when it comes to eating out, especially cheesecake which is a specialty of mine, but this place has fully satisfied me, both the food and the staff are excellent. I can highly recommend you visit this place if you enjoy quality food and good service.’

Recommended from the GBG, which is why I called in. The beer selection was limited to 2 real ales, both from the same brewery and the bar staff could not really describe the differences to me. However, the one I chose was really nice.

After reading so many positive reviews I thought we were in for a treat but not really, whilst the food was good ,staff if anything overly friendly and the restaurant quite cold and draughty, maybe we caught them on a bad day, unsure if we'd bother a return visit

We arrived just after 6 on Friday evening. There was a good buzz as soon as you walked through the door. We had not booked but were lucky enough to be offered the option of two tables. The food and service were both excellent with a lovely wine on recommendation from the staff. Nothing was too much trouble it was relaxed, welcoming but lively aswell. I would highly recommend here but they are busy and it would be wise to ring in advance. We had 3 courses, drinks when we arrived, wine and coffee and the bill was approx. £75. We will be back it was worth every penny.

We found this gem of a restaurant by chance, by the power of the internet whilst shopping. The food was fantastic, great service and a friendly team. Will definitely be back when in Taunton.

Attended this restaurant with four friends, we had a lovely meal and the food was excellent. At the end of the meal we split the bill and each of us included a 'tip'. All seemed well and we left, only to be chased out the door in front of other customers with a male member of staff shouting that we hadn't paid enough. We went back into the restaurant, all a bit bemused and embarrassed, rather than make a scene, one of my friends paid the alleged difference on her credit card. Reluctantly the member of staff supplied a copy of the itemized bill. On checking the receipt we found that we had in fact been charged for an EXTRA main course. My friend who has paid the additional payment went back to the restaurant and did get the extra she had paid back on her card. The disappointing thing is that there was no apology for THEIR mistake, or for the humiliating way we had been chased after in front of the other customers! They only paid back the extra amount my friend had paid, which due to the generous tip we had left didn't even cover the extra main course we had been charged for. Sadly, because as I said the food was excellent, we will not be going back.
