The best restaurants in South Hams South West

Meat eaters paradise. Steak seems to the dish of choice. Eight of us, all of us with different palates from rare to burnt. Absolutely no complaints from anyone about their dish. That plus great friendly service, what more could you want ?

It is hard to find something in Dartmouth if you are vegan so didn't fancy our chances in the Market Square but running out of choices. A quick browse of the menu and I noticed they have a really inclusive menu with GF and VG choices. We had the home made soup and the Tofu baguette which were both exceptional with perfectly crisp but soft tofu and pea houmous. It sounds very worthy but was absolutely delicious and a proper light lunch. It has made the prospect of a trip to Dartmouth even more worthwhile.

What a disappointment. Staff who were bordering on being smug that they are so busy. I’d loved coming here on previous visits to Totnes; never again. Having queued for 12 minutes to reach the counter, I had 21 minutes before my trains departure to get a bacon sandwich. My order was refused, “get here earlier” the lady on the griddle chided. How to make a repeat customer feel small! I took a coffee anyway. I don’t drink dairy but oat milk they can only be arsed to put in an ‘Americano’. I took it but it was bitter as hell and lukewarm. I don’t know what has happened to this place but I honestly felt like poop on their shoes. It might be, indeed, that their popularity lends them an arrogance, but, dear friends, they really wasted my time so my honest advice, if you see their café is busy, avoid!

The products that these people grow and sell are superb. This is a range of chilli peppers from all over the world including the spiciest ever called the Reaper chilli, the sauce of which is famed as the hottest in the world! We bought some and boy does it live up to its reputation! Quite expensive, worth it and thank you

Lovely lunch as ever , burger fabulous , 2 / 3 onion rings wd be great though. Gammon egg and chips superb too . Cakes (carrot superb) and the Millionaires shortbread the best ever. Shortbread the best ,not under cooked as with naughty in goods and caramel and choc excellent . Obviously the ethos of home made us true here.

Next time we are in Dartmouth we will be there for a crab sandwich, they are the best in the area! Lovely to meet Richard & Judy

Had lovely cake and hot drinks today Mulled wine was one of the best I’ve had for miles and miles Cakes lots of options really delicious and good value Vegan options Staff were mostly amazing one was quite moody and not very friendly but at the till we had a nice experience with the 2 ladies at the till they were lovely and helpful

Beautifully situated on the waterfront, opposite Queen Anne's Battery Marina. Wonderful panoramic views in all directions and a hot spot if you catch the sun right. Outside decor and furniture's not all that and could do with an update but the food, wine and service is divine. I only had a starter and was pleasantly surprised - king prawns I chorizo and garlic cream based sauce, served with garlic buttered Ciabataa on the side, & a wedge of lemon. I also had a glass of Pinot Noir Della Venezie, sharp, crisp and delisch with the food.

Really good pizza along with great service, and the location around it makes it a great meal out, definitely recommending it!

What an amazing place. Staff 10/10.. go beyond their remit… coffee 10/10. Ice cream 10/10. I can’t wait to visit again What more can I say???

We were pleased to see The Good Intent open even though we visited on a cold day in November. The ice cream we had was delicious - it was light and fluffy and very flavoursome - also a nice price. We were served with a smile.

Always a warm welcome and food and coffee is the best in town. Plenty of veggie options for me, food is always fresh and there’s a good selection of cakes too.

Incredible joint of Beef, we drove out on a Sunday morning and spoke to Alex on the butchery who gave us brilliant advice on the best cut of beef for a nice medium cook, we came away with a lovely piece of Topside for two people. After this we went to Tesco and out of curiosity I checked how much this cut of meat was from there and was surprised to see it was the same price per kilo! I can honestly say it was the best Beef I have ever purchased and we will certainly be coming back often if not weekly. Alex also gave advice on cooking times and was spot on. Could not recommend any higher!

And another great lunch st Jenny Koos! We love the daily specials and the pork belly on rice was wonderful! She really knows how to bring out the flavours in everything she cooks! Thanks again Jenny!
