We had the lunchtime tasting menu- it was very nice with some lovely tasting food. But all the very elaborate cooking was often lost- we couldn’t taste the hay in the hay baked beetroot (even though it was very tasty) and the foam with the (remarkably small portion) sea bass just tasted a bit milky. We wondered if the chef might try a little less hard and end up with the same impact. Service was friendly and generally attentive, although it got stretched when two parties of six arrived.

Excellent from start to finish. Lovely on the phone when I enquired if they allowed well behaved babies (I don’t like to assume as before I had a child I used to find babies really annoying in fancy eateries - now obviously I feel they should be allowed everywhere hahaha). Very welcoming, lovely setting - food was so so good (and I’m notoriously hard to please, much to the dismay of my poor boyfriend). Without wanting to sound pretentious, I loved the restaurants ethos and locality of the ingredients. We had the tasting menu and everything was delicious - especially the mushroom dish with lions mane - also who knew a cabbage could be made to taste so yummy and complex! We had the Bacchus wine - I’m not going to lie, I’m no wine buff - quite happy with a cheap bottle of plonk but this was DE-LI-CIOUS - very elderflowery! They even had lovely clean baby changing and a walking trail around the vineyard for a little amble after a gorgeous meal! I couldn’t resist buying a big fat saucisson from the deli before heading home, which is also very good indeed! Highly recommend to any foodie or any poor man out there who has a fussy pain in the arse girlfriend X

I can honestly say that 3 weeks on I am still thinking about the beautiful food and wonderful experience we had here. The food and wine are outstanding and truly memorable. I am not going to comment on what we had ... go and sample it for yourself, you won't be dissapointed. I am usually hesitant to recommend but not this place I would recommend to everyone. It's 4.5 hours away from home but I plan to return. Just fabulous.

Staying in our caravan nearby we decided to visit for our anniversary lunch. We both had Sunday roast beef, all the vegetables were delicious and the meat was perfect cooked. An absolutely wonderful meal served by very attentive staff. If only we lived nearby this would be a regular favourite. Excellent wine complimented the meal

We ate here as we were staying locally and wanted to visit the vineyard and wine shop. Having looked at the menu in advance, it was clear there was ambition in the kitchen. However, there are way too many chefs thinking they are the next Heston, so we approached with caution. There was a choice of a set menu for £45 or a small plates a la carte menu with dishes between around £7 and £15. The wine suggestions were all from the local vineyard. Some of the dishes were simply baffling on the page. Most of this was through my own ignorance e.g I had no idea that Lions mane (meaty and delicious) were mushrooms. Some of it was because the ingredients were so obscure e.g Alexander gelato. Who knew Alexander is a celery style herb you can make ice cream with? Not just any old ice cream either. I will add some photos as my words will paint inadequate pictures. Before I do, I will just say that the sea bass, beef shin croquettes, lamb and celeriac kebabs and even the new potatoes were stunning. Of a more challenging nature were desserts. The Douglas fir parfait with verjus curd and gorse biscuits was a conversation stopper. My wife and I were silenced through confusion, wonder, admiration, and above all, just pure enjoyment. The wine? Well, the white estate is similar in quality to a decent Sauvignon and is fine; good even. The sparkling wine though is on a different level. Think a Pol Roger but for a third of the price. I have ordered a case of six for presents and a couple for ourselves. Finally, the service. The whole staff were unobtrusive but attentive when needed. They were unbelievably knowledgeable and passionate about what the restaurant is doing. Marc was particularly great. My advice is to go to Circa. It’s at first a cool looking small plate restaurant that you might think you have been to a thousand times. By the time you leave, I bet you don’t feel that way. In fact, I bet you are like me and plotting how you can return with friends in the future. I have now based my whole birthday week around a visit to Circa and I live hundreds of miles away!

Had a five course taster menu celebrating the wonderful South Devon cattle from the estate. All five courses were exceptional! The quality of the food and depth of flavours were amazing. We also had a wine flight alongside our meal which enhanced our eating experience. The staff were very knowledgeable friendly and attentive.

Enjoyed every aspect of my experience at Circa. Had a 4 course tasting menu and every dish was absolutely delicious. Great vineyard location, lovely atmosphere, incredible food and fantastic service. I would highly recommend it! The vegan roast on a Sunday is also fab!

Beautiful setting despite the weather . Our group slightly delayed and we’re constantly being asked to order drinks menu . Vegetarian Sunday lunch excellent however roast beef lunch whilst vegetables very good one tiny see through sliver of roast beef very poor . 2 roast potatoes sparce! Again service rushed (only 2 other tables in ) And wine mark up extortionate. Service charge automatically charged . Yes we complained yes we got a response inviting us back but this was not what we were looking for just explanation if sub standard portions and option not to pay service charge . Overall experience so disappointing .

We visited Circa exactly a year ago for my birthday and it was outstanding-a meal you don’t forget, so after a run of decidedly average meals in different places in Devon I decided to come here again. The change was they now serve a selection of small plates. Everything we chose was exquisite, the flavours danced around in your mouth. We were sad when we finished. The sticky toffee pudding to finish was the best I have ever had. My partner is a chef so our standards are high, it really didn’t disappoint!! The service was also perfect! We will be back!!

Sunday lunch with friends - everyone else went for the roast so I did too. Normally I very much dislike pub and restaurant roasts but this was really good! Roast potatoes excellent (fresh and crispy not cooked-hours-ago-leathery) interesting and fresh vegetables, good quality meat. Lovely terrace and pretty location.

Excellent food & service at this lovely Devon Winery. We ordered eight dishes and all were wonderful in flavours and textures. Our server was knowledgable and was able to tell us all the ingredients for each dish. The concept is to share so the dishes come on small plates. We will be back

This is an amazing restaurant. Loved every moment and mouthfull. Went for a anniversary lunch. It is a many plate sharing menu. All the six plates we had were excellent. Included lots of local produce and some foraged herbs and mushrooms. There was beef from the estate and fresh Brixham fish. We had turbot. Will return. Not cheap but quality never is. Great service too. Thanx guys. PS must not forget THE WINE!!!!

Visited for lunch with friends. We sat in the area outside the restaurant in the sunshine. A lovely setting, calm and relaxed with good service from hard- working staff. While there was nothing wrong with the food some ‘small plates’ were ordinary and not good value i.e. overpriced. Chicken dish rather dull, expected more of a wow from the fish dishes we selected. Cocktails came in surprisingly small glasses. Nice coffee. Our taster baskets of wine had to be purchased separately from the wine shop. Might return for coffee and a snack.

The food was delicious. So fresh and full of flavour. I shared 5 small plates and one side with my companion. That was plenty for lunch. The turbot was perfectly cooked. The beetroot dish so good. as was the asparagus and the celeriac. Beautiful space and great service too.

Having had 2 5 star lunches last year , the new menu is a disappointment . A short but exquisite menu has been changed to a handful of small, expensive and fussy plates with a predominance of foam . Still some very good choices , but as you are advised to have at least 3 dishes you cant avoid some foamy varieties . You are advised that the dishes come whenever they are ready - thats fine , but in our case all the sides ( potatoes and green veg ) came after the small mains . Nonsense . With a pud it was £ 50.00 a head and frankly not great value for money

I can honestly say the meal I had last night was amazing. I had not booked and was solo dining but that was no problem (normally I am certain booking would be essential). The restaurant is a lovely experience and has a very relaxed atmosphere with a great selection of music at just the right volume. Food is small plates and the recommended 2-3 plates was perfect, I added a side and dessert and small appetiser. Dishes are served in order as they appear on the menu. Each was absolutely delicious and were complemented by a delicious Italian red. Service was friendly and came with great explanations of the dishes.

Friday lunch visiting BFF and we were delighted to get a table - somewhere we’ve both wanted to go for a while. From start to finish it was a brilliant, life enriching experience. We went for the tasting menu, one wine pairing (one driver…) and sat in the window. I don’t want to painstakingly describe each dish - but there were all hits and no misses. Food and service executed with aplomb and totally delightful. We are still discussing how to make a celeriac velouté. A special note to Michael the sommelier who delivered the wine pairings with verve, knowledge and charm. I’m already looking at sourcing some of the superb wines he paired with our food. The whole experience was a delight and I’m hoping to get back in the not too distant future and highly recommended.

Great food, great atmosphere, great company, Lovely pub that we walk to regularly. We live Ivybridge and prefer to walk over to Bittaford for this lovely pub.

Unfortunately, I’m disappointed. For the author's cuisine it is not only about the food. It is about what the chef wanted to say, it is about the history of the creation of the dish and only then about the food. The waiters simply served the dishes and said: this is pork with sauce, etc., enjoy and that's it. Sorry, maybe I don't understand something, but the food was not the most delicious, but it’s not so important! The experience that I wanted to get from a restaurant with a Michelin star I did not get.
