A nice, traditional pub, good food and friendly staff, been for lunch a few times and will return at some point. They also have a rather amusing parrot on the bar! Worth a trip out

Perfect in every way, the food was absolutely delicious and the choice was good. Value for money definitely. I would highly reccommend this venue...it was delightful.

" and the puddings were splendid!! 😋 I would definitely recommend to go here the staff were very welcoming for a local pub, we aren't from around here and we have been to a few local pubs elsewhere and have found them very clicky, the horse & groom wasn't one bit clicky they made us feel very welcome indeed!! A lovely place to visit ,don't drive past pop in and see for yourself !!!

Second visit to have food, first was 6 of us and all loved the food. Second 4 of us, all on steak and all cooked as asked. Good service and atmosphere. Will use again****.

Food wasn't on as they had a Christmas party booked, which was a shame as I was hungry and they'd not put anything on their media to say food was off. When I asked if Ithey had coke zero I was told yes, but he then got it from a bottle, rather than also telling me about the cheaper option of Pepsi max on tap, which I'd have preferred - he'd already taken the top off the bottle and it was too late, when I them asked if they didn't have cola on tap. Poor crisp flavour choices. Steps up to the door, which isn't great for disabilities, but the hand rail definitely helped.

Dropped in on the way back from a day out. Had the Dartmoor Stack burger, and it was the best burger I've had in a long time. Simple but perfectly cooked. It being a double I did have to eat it like an animal, but it was perfectly doable. Quick friendly service too. Dessert portion was generous and prices were reasonable.

First time eating here. Lovely food at very reasonable prices. Will be back!

Popped in for a drink. It's a proper unpretentious pub. Good range of beers, food options and outdoor seating with freindly service. What's not to like.

Took my mum here for lunch today. Was a bit disappointed. Ordered the chicken and bacon melt. I was happy that he took off all the fat for the bacon for me. However. The chips were underdone and the chicken was very dry. I didn't Finnish the chicken or the chips. The chicken. I managed to eat with the bacon was okay. But as soon as the bacon ran out I couldn't eat anymore. I do think that £5 odd for 6 hallomi fries is a bit much? I did enjoy them however. I paid £35 for two meals. No including the drinks. The drink were fine. But I don't think I'd be eating there again :( slightly disappointed as everyone was raving about this place

Lovely local pub. Good choice of ales and cider. Always keeps beer in perfect condition. Jail Ale is always on plus guest ales. The Exeter Darkness was perfect. Landlord knows his stuff and happy to talk about it if you want to. Highly recommended.

Went for a cheeky steak and chips with a beer. The beer is always good. The steak and chips are normally good value. This time the steak was good but the chips were hard. We took them back and they served us another portion of chips again they are anaemic and hard in the middle. I took these back. At which point I had eaten the steak. The bar man said chips are chips and that's it. I said chips are ment to me soft in the middle . Then nothing was done about it. Felt we had basically paid for a steak and no chips. A shame really as normally good value and it could have easily been resolved. But no attempt to resolve the issue. So another customer lost Only giving the place 3 as most of the time it's OK. Just think they have forgotten about the customer

I live locally to this pub and call in for a few pints once a week usually late afternoon or early evening. I am not a drunk or a person who is difficult or a person who winges about a cloudy pint, which I am afraid to say, is a relatively common occurrence here. With the exception of one of the owners I have to say that the service overall is below average, the beer is ordinary most of the time and the landlady is just plain rude. I rarely eat here so I can’t comment on the food beyond saying that the last time I did eat here, which was about a month ago, the food was ordinary as well.

Visited the pub for a meal and felt welcomed as soon as opened the door, greeted by staff who showed us to our table, food was delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed and will be making many more visits in the future whether for a quiet drink or a meal.

Have eaten here a couple of times now the food is outstanding always piping hot. Friendly homely atmosphere, nothing was to much trouble. Comes highly recommended, as does the sticky toffee pudding. More visits planned for the future xxxx

The Beacon burger was amazing with great chips and onion rings. My partner had the Rump steak with all trimmings was nicely cooked. Good selection of Beers and lovely people, great value 😀

Positively average or below average…. Fish & Chips were frozen, which is a shame being so close to fish markets. Fish was also dry due to overcooking. Polite service. Music far to loud for the restaurant area.

Friendly and welcoming staff. Great value for money and very reasonable. We have visited a couple of times and very impressed as all food is cooked to order and all fresh produce. Only slight issue was the chips were slightly under cooked, but this hasn't put us of returning. Will recommend and visit again.

Visited today whilst on a trip to Bittaford researching my granddad's birthplace. This would have been his local pub back in the 1920 and 30's! Lovely food, very quick service and great value for money ... I had scampi and my husband had a steak, both nicely presented and well cooked. Lovely day so we sat outside in one of the covered pods. Very Covid secure. We will definitely visit again when next in the area.

My wife and I booked a dinner here on 29th June 2021. Considering it was the night England were playing Germany we thought it would be packed out. The pub was almost empty. We booked it for 7.30pm after the game was over. The pub itself had a lovely theme to it, staff were friendly enough. However, when the food arrived it looked alot on the plate but once tasted, the quality was poor, the steak was tough and chewy for a medium rare steak, the gammon was dry, the onion rings were too hard. The only thing that was fresh and tasty was the scampi as they had to be cooked freshly. All the other products were microwaved in my opinion. My wife had crab salad which was slightly better but the crab was not nice she said. In her opinion it had been prepared for at least 24 hours. One of the worst meals we had in a long time. Can't recommend the food but the pub itself it nice in terms of decor and staff.

Hearty and traditional food with outstanding service. We had a great meal at the Horse and Groom and it was just what we needed after a long journey. Good quality food and friendly service. Would recommend 100%!

Just had an excellent pub lunch, I had surf and turf with nice sized scampi and tender rump steak and gammon, my wife had salmon fish cakes which she enjoyed. Very good value for money.

This has to be the worst piece of cod I’ve ever had, clearly bought in already battered and then overdone in the deep fat fryer, chips were also dry. Terrible meal!

This Horse and Groom is a very dated traditional type of establishment that is very relaxing to be in. We were there for over 3 hours and time just flew by.The comprehensive menu has some traditional favourites along with some more contemporary meals. The coffee served is also very nice. Service is very good and the meals all arrived at the table together, hot and presented well. Only one disappointing thing is there was only one dressed crab salad left (it looked lovely). The fish cakes are also delicious. The whole party of 9 enjoyed all the various meals that they had ordered.

Visited today with friends, 1st time but it won't be the last. Good draught beers and excellent food, staff were very pleasant and helpful

A locals pub, but friendly. The food is always hot and cooked well, and not too expensive. Ollie cooks a really great steak, just as you want it, and there is take away availed too.

Went to a Beer and Cider Festival held regularly in aid of local charities. Good Beers and Ciders not to mention the ylocal sausages and live music. Greta afternoon and evening.

Una mezcla entre un pub muy cutre y un gran restaurante es una combinación rara. Situado justo al lado de una carretera, el ruido es normalmente insoportablemente fuerte y interrumpir. Ponen una buena salchicha y festival de sidra cada año que es su mejor época del año. Los camareros no eran lo que se podría llamar amable pero el servicio fue rápido y sin problemas. La comida era promedio de huevos con jamón y patatas fritas, difícilmente puede ser un desastre, pero una hamburguesa así que fui para la opción segura y fue sorprendentemente bien. Probablemente no volveremos, pero una visita agradable todos juntos.

Fui a caballo y Cepillada para encontrarse con un viejo amigo y anterior Jefe que vive cerca. Muy acogedor y agradable, el H&G; es un buen país pub con una chimenea de leña y todas las instalaciones necesarias en el mundo moderno de casas públicas. Nos tomamos unas copas. . . . . . Ale y J2O mientras nos sentamos en un típico pub y Sillas Mesa de país y conversamos sobre viejos tiempos. Decidimos probar la comida y eligió la vieja Cod & Chips y tocino baguette. Encantador y fresco y de buena calidad aunque no es una fortuna para golpear el bolsillo. Un muy agradable pocas horas y un gran cambio de la cadena de pubs de la ciudad todos los días.

Una visita obligada si estás en la zona de pub. Los caballos y el novio sirven comida fabulosa y ale. Si tienes la suerte de visitar en una sidra y salchichas Sizzle o fin de fiesta de la cerveza, te encontrarás en un auténtico lujo. También hay una sesión de música en vivo a menudo varían durante el año, con nuestro viejo favorito" Rick del palo" cantando y haciendo música.

Cayó en en este pub ya que había pasado un par de veces, la decoración estaba bien relajado y acogedor pub, como un país, la elección de la cerveza era buena así como el servicio, una buena opción en el menú principal y había una orden de la junta de especialidades, los precios eran buenos, como la comida y teníamos mucho en el plato. Tuvimos una buena conversación con los propietarios fueron muy amables, sin duda volveremos la vista desde el interior de la salida fue muy bueno.

Visitamos aquí hoy para un cumpleaños amigos. Olía y sabía gracioso cerveza, incluso después de ser cambiado. La comida era absolutamente horrible! Completamente incomible. Cuando pedimos un reembolso que tardamos una eternidad y el hombre del bar se negó a reembolso por las bebidas, ya que dijo que nunca había recibido quejas antes! Horrible servicio al cliente y experiencia en general.

Been past this pub/restaurant many times, so decided to pay a visit with friends.The food in our opinion was over priced for what was very average food quality.Parking would be difficult when busy as its all on a big slope.The staff were friendly enough, but all 4 of us said we would not rush back in a hurry.

Stopped off on way through, dated pub but i love that feel. Food very average to say the least, I ordered an impressive looking mixed grill but sadly due to being served on hot plate it was pretty much over cooked, chicken, chop inedible,not worth asking for med on steaks as both of ours same out over cooked and well done. Might be an off day....

We visited this Pub this weekend the host were fantastic . We had one of the best Breakfast ever . The Cider festival was great fun and the Pub is the the centre point of the comunity. Great choice of beers and cider with a full menu.A traditional wholesome village pub.We will return.Pete and Kim

Lovely welcome and cosy by the fire, food was lovely and great value. Met the most adorable puppy called honey.

Been to the bourse and groom a few times, we really enjoyed their beer festival earlier in the year, and were treated to some wonderful entertainment all day by various different people, Morris dancing was particularly my favourite. Dawn and Ollie are always welcoming and all the staff are so friendly. There is always something going at the horse and groom, if your ever driving past, or your looking for a good pub meal, that isn't too expensive then here is well worth a try.

My expectations were low but my experience here tonight failed to meet even those. Truly an experience I don't want to repeat. Poorly presented and even more badly cooked. I will not be going back.

They serve the best sixteen ounce sizzler steaks I've tasted and a great price . And there curry is better than any Indian curry houseAnd they have some lovely real ales

If you're thinking at stopping here don't. A few years back i stopped here to encounter the most unfriendly reception ever. Read a review to say it was good, came back and it was worse !! The lady who runs this pub is coarse, rude and took ages to serve us. We were made to feel like we were not welcome. The land lady chatted and pointed at our group of people like we were outcasts until we left. Vile , dirty place give it a miss!!!! we were warned by the locals not to drink here..we should have heeded their warnings!!!

Ollie the owner has a way of organising fantastic events throughout the year and is always up for a good laugh. Look out for their beer festivals. Great place to stop off if you've been out on the moors and the views from the front terrace are spectacular

Planned to stop here for lunch a few months ago. Arrived at 12.50 pm, sign on door says open at 12 noon - food served till 2pm. All locked up and dark but no notice on door to explain. Left disappointed. Planned to stop her for lunch on Saturday. Arrived at 1.52 pm - (checked time on my satellite gizmo). There was a coach load of rugby/football supporters well pickled just leaving to get on their coach. Went in to order food for seven of us, told they had finished serving lunch. Left disappointed.Not so well done, the Horse and Groom. Would have given you a zero rating if it was available. Customer service at it's worst. However, they must be doing really well to be able to turn away 7 lunches out of season. Certainly won't bother again. Sadly my only negative review.

Now this pub is desperate for a lick of paint and a tidy up, But you can't complain about the food.I had a rump steak with pepper sauce my wife had fish cakes and my daughter had lasagne all the meals were well presented and delicious, in fact my pepper sauce was as good as it gets, I hate pepper sauce that you can't tell it got black pepper in now this was peppery maybe too much for some but perfect for me, the steak melted in the mouth and was cooked exactly as I ordered.Mr landlord tidy the place up and this could be a great place to eat.

Returning from dropping the two grandsons to their mum after four fun packed days with us, we had hunger pains so a visit to the H&G was called for. A great pint of Jail Ale and a large wine, plus two steak meals later ( First class meals on warm plates )we left very contented for the short dive home and a week to get over the half term. Thank to Olly and the team for the meals and good company. Well worth seeking out if your in the area.
