Great place right beside the water. Picturesque location. Great welcoming staff. Dog friendly. The menu is varied and the food is excellent. There's parking beside the pub. It's tidal so check tide state ie in out. Phone the pub they'll tell you what the tide I had doing.

This has been a wonderful local pub for over twenty years. Have been twice since the new ownership and sadly the food is nowhere near the level that it used to be. I took friends and they were so embarrassed they asked for a refund. We then came again prior to Christmas and was such a let down. The atmosphere is still wonderful and as local a great walk. But I feel we no longer have it as an option to eat at due to the poor quality of fish, vegetables and even the pizzas aren’t what they were last year. Great to go and have a drink at though x

Food was hot and cold. 4 adults had the roast. Vegetables cold, cauliflower as an extra was very nice but warm. Beef was cold, tough and in fact awful quality. The children had the burger and chips. Very nice and served well. The bottles of red wine very expensive compared to other restaurants

We went for a lunch. Staff very helpful, food was lovely. It's obviously tricky to park because of the location but can be sorted if you give yourself enough time. The table service was very attentive.

There was a January offer which meant I got 2 courses for the price of the main. Very friendly staff. Parking at the weekend or summer might be tricky.

Friendly welcome and a hearty lunch after a damp walk. We had Sunday roast(substantial and tasty gammon) and cassoulet (delicious winter warmer). This is a beautiful spot and character pub with enthusiastic staff and welcoming hosts.

We went there for Sunday lunch over Christmas. Three of their staff had phoned in sick so they were under pressure. We had a table by the window which was lovely and the food was great. The staff did their best in the circumstances. I really couldn't fault our experience.

One of our favourite Devon pubs , but we felt that the food quality this time wasn’t as good as in the past. Service and atmosphere still friendly and relaxed, location beautiful, great that its dog-friendly. We absolutely love this pub and visit every time we come to Salcombe - at least twice per year. We didn’t know about the change in management and the staff are as friendly and the atmosphere and decor as lovely as ever - in fact, I think there has been some clever and comfortable refurbishment since our last visit. BUT… and I’m sorry there is a but… the quality of the food was not a patch on our decade or so of previous experiences there. Admittedly we visited at lunchtime on New Year’s Eve and maybe they were saving their energy for a busy evening ahead, but we were quite disappointed. The whitebait starters seemed to be ‘commercial freezer’ quality and were served with no lemon and only (I think) ready-made mayonnaise. The main course turkey sandwich was well-flavoured but the bread was just ‘ordinary’ white sliced bread, not a decent loaf, and there wasn’t as much filling as in the past. The turkey pizza was substantial but swimming in fat and grease. My burger was fine, though the chips were disappointing, and my husband’s mussels were ‘6/10’ and served with the same sliced loaf. We didn’t bother to try puddings. There was nothing really wrong with the food - and I was happy with my burger, which was beautifully cooked and seasoned, with great relishes in the bun- but it wasn’t the special culinary experience it has been in the past. Even the lemonade and apple juice are not good local brands (eg Luscombe) as in the past. I think maybe the aim is for a lower price point and to make this pub more affordable for lucky locals to visit regularly, whereas we went twice a year as a holiday treat so didn’t mind spending a little more. We wish the management and staff every success with their new venture. The location and atmosphere are still wonderful but it would be lovely to see some more ambitious cooking and mainly locally produced/ home made food on the menu.

The new management at this iconic pub are making a huge effort to provide a level of service and food quality that such a place deserves. From what we saw, josh and his team are going to make a success of this - the place was full on the night we visited and the service was slick and professional. The food was top notch too.......

Cracking venue and the service was welcoming and attentive from the moment we walked in. Best pint of Guinness I’ve had in Devon! Lovely gesture by Josh and Lottie to make sure our group were being looked after. Looks like this pub is in safe hands moving forward and although we are not local, are looking forward to going back again!

We were in Devon for 80th birthday celebration and had a big party booked (22 persons) into the Ship Inn on a Sunday afternoon. Due to the size of the party we had to be split into two areas, this worked well and the staff worked well in ordering and timing the meals across the two areas. For such a large group they managed to serve us all within a reasonable time, a minor miracle with the size of group we had. The staff were so helpful and polite making the afternoon ass great event. Everybody was complimentary about the meals they recieved. The loaction in the outside room where one the groups were situated had a lovely view of the harbour/inlet.

A place with a special charm, we arrived and it was already dark, normal in England at 6:30 p.m. The place is old and made of wood, keeping the lines of a seafood tavern from bygone eras and ideal for having some beers, wines, etc... at that time. We didn't eat anything so I can't comment but I'm sure next time we will, very pleasant, nice.

As a pre booked group of 15, including 3 children, we received a warm welcome from Lotti and Josh. Our table was nicely set and staff very attentive to making sure we were comfortable before taking drinks and food orders. Being a large group we had a cross section of starters and mains and everyone said their food was lovely. Service was great and all dishes served together. Overall we were really pleased to see and experience the Ship getting back on track. Thank you Josh, Lotti and the team.

Stopped here after a long walk with the dog. Lovely atmosphere and location. Managed to get a table. Would have been a higher review, as we have been here a number of times. However, the food this time was lacking. We only ordered the fish finger sandwich, which at £12 i expected a little more. Crusty bread or handcut bloomer, not a medium sliced bit of bread. I had one small piece of pickled fennel. There was an even smaller piece of watercress. There wasnt much fish in the sarnie. If you like gem lettuce, then this is the sarnie for you. The seasoned crisps were very nice. I will eat here again, but will avoid the sandwiches.

Just returned from a late lunch at The Ship and happy to report that we noticed a vast improvement from our previous visit earlier this year. Very pleasant and attentive service (our food server Ali was excellent), very well cooked and well presented food too. As more of an observation than a criticism, a couple of us ordered the grilled whole lemon sole and whilst delicious they were extremely small (possibly the smallest we have ever been served in a restaurant)! All in all, we still felt that we received fair value for money and would happily return.

A cold December day, the greeting was warm and friendly, and thanks to somewhat limited people inside (not to be confused with hectic summer times) we had an amusing chat with the owner. The food was absolutely fine and it was a great experience. The setting of this pub is exceptional, and if you can sit out on the veranda, even better.

Really friendly staff, some fabulous crab croquettes! A beautiful location. Best chips I have had for ages.

The Ship has been a firm favorite for us for many years and having not been for a good while we were so thrilled to find that it is as great as it always has been! Great staff (Carly and team!), fabulous food and a really delicious Pinot Gris made for a lovely late lunch yesterday. The crab croquettes were very tasty and the aioli had that lovely freshly made punch of garlic. Followed by a really wonderful bouillabaise topped with a beautifully seasoned, crispy skinned fillet of grey mullet was to die for and i loved the golden beetroot in there too! Cant wait to come back again! Only downside was that we were too full for dessert!!

Went to the ship for my 60th birthday (how did I get this old) staff were attentive and the food was delicious, all came out close together, there were 24 of us, so well done. All made for a memorable birthday. Thank you.

Had a brilliant Sunday lunch over the weekend. Despite the pub being very busy, the service levels were incredible and we were very well looked after by Josh, Lottie & the team. Look forward to returning again in the future!

Happily I am revising my previous review as after reading that The Ship Inn had come under new management since the visit below, we decided to give it another try. Hooray! It was like walking back into the old pub before it was sold, a warm welcome, Josh was a great attentive host as were all the waiting staff and the food was delicious. Very pleased that this long-time old favourite is back up to standard, it’s such a beautiful location it was sad to see its decline. Josh is clearly passionate about this pub and the experience offered to customers. Very pleased to be back to looking forward to visiting again 😁😁. It does pain me slightly to leave a 1-star review, but on our recent visit we were spoken to rudely by the staff, made to feel as if customers were an inconvenience, and eventually had to leave without any food other very dry pieces of stale cake. The Ship has been a family favourite for years, a top choice for any meals out. Sadly since the sale, Youngs brewery haven’t got to grips with the size of the pub yet. We’ve experienced one lunch with a very mediocre sandwich which was worse than something knocked up at home, and on giving it another try this week, we arrived to be told the kitchen were “having a break” and not taking any orders. They “might” take orders again in 25 minutes, but equally “they might not”. This was in the middle of the 12-2 lunch slot, the inside of the pub was totally empty but it was busy outside due to the sunny weather. So we duly ordered some drinks and sat and waited. In the meantime, a drinks order that was wrong was brought out. On pointing out that it was wrong the lady snappily questioned it before huffing “well I’ll have to go and make another one now!!”. On emerging again, we tried to offer some sympathy and ask if they had staff off sick. Her response and attitude was rude and unpleasant and essentially along the lines that customers were a massive inconvenience and who did they think they were all walking in expecting food. We finished up the awkward exchange by asking if the kitchen were now taking orders (30 minutes had gone by) to get a snappy response “no they’re not” before she walked off. At that point, all of us decided that was sadly the last time we’d visit The Ship. A sad end to what was a really great pub. I hope the brewery take note of what seem to be a slew of negative reviews and improve their approach to match the size and covers of the venue otherwise I can’t see it surviving as a business when it’s not even at full capacity with the summer holidays.

It doesn't get better than this! Cozy, historic pub in a gorgeous location with fantastic food and wonderful service. It can be a little tricky to find but so worth the effort. We will be back for sure!

Not only is the Ship Inn an amazing location, right on the seafront but the food is amazing. The Crab croquettes were delicious and the whitebait was said to be the best ever. I also had the plant burger which was really good. The Ship Inn is also full of history and antiques if you're in Plymouth or anywhere near Noss Mayo, this is a must eat location. Please do keep in mind on the tides depending where you park.

Just popped to the ship in today for a family get together... never been before... a few gins and some food... the most wonderful atmosphere instantly... felt reet at home.... management was kind enough to pass us some free chips.. even pinched one!!!🤣 . Utterly mint experience... will most defo be back!!!see u all soon!!!!!😍😍😍

After the sale of the pub, like many locals, we had given up on the place as the service and replacement staff were pretty dreadful. However, we heard a new manager has taken it over in the last couple of weeks so thought to give it one last go … I’m so glad we did . What a turn around! The new staff are now lovely and the food is so much better. I arrived with my rescue collie, and the barman, Ali, went out of his way to make sure we and my very shy dog had everything we needed. He was so kind. So if you are local and reading this from mid Nov 2024 onwards, give the Ship Inn another go . It’s getting back to what it used to be.

A genuine welcome, excellent service and high quality seafood, this proper pub has all the charm and welcome that makes me proud to be of Devonian blood. We were visitors but were made to feel welcome, our dog was well catered for too. Good beers, coffee, and the cleanest pub toilets we have ever experienced. A long way from home but we will be back in summer. Fantastic location too. Just don't park where the tide might come to.

Having been here in May and waited nearly two hours for our food we weren’t in any rush to return, however thank goodness we did as the new owners are running a slick service now. Friendly managers and team. Delicious food especially the mussels starter and all the desserts. Josh the manager pinned my daughter’s colouring to the board which made her day too. A friendly cosy pub for foodies, thanks for making our last night of our mini break perfect. We will def be back, maybe even tomorrow for lunch!

Well this was our second visit to this pub. After a really dreadful experience last year my partner and I thought we'd give it another go as Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers are our favourite places in Devon to visit. Well I can now say with 100% confidence that the new mangers have really turned the place around. The menu is perfect with a great range for everyone, the service top class, the food great and the whole atmosphere far better, what a turnaround! We'll definitely be returning and will recommend to our friends. Five stars!

For the first time in far too long, I can honestly say that pur meals this evening were excellent. When Youngs first took over from Charlie and Lisa, to say it was a disaster would be an understatement. I have been there to eat about 4 times in the last year, and on each occasion it's been "okay" at best BUT going again tonight with Josh and Lottie at the helm, the Ship is well and truly back on course. Everyone was full of compliments about their meals and I couldn't find fault at all. Perhaps the drinks took a little while longer than they should have to find their way to the table, but it wasn't excessive, and it's a bit of a stretch to call it a criticism. Service - very good Atmosphere - very good Food quality - excellent Value for money - very good. So good to see you back old friend, long may it continue

Been meaning to go here for a while now. Really tasty food would definitely go again but feel for the price there could have been more meat as nice as it was and definitely more gravey

We visited the Under New Management Ship Inn late lunchtime on a sunny Saturday, going to the outside area, which has great views of the inlet, and one of the staff helped our group of five secure a table and then didn’t mind when we switched to another table more in the sunshine when that became vacant. He came back once our food had arrived to make sure we were happy, which we were, and we got into a conversation about the pub having new management. Being first-time visitors, we didn't have any comparison to what preceded, but our experience was very positive. The food was good and all the staff we came into contact with were great. One floor up in a large room a children's party was underway with about 30 children and that all seemed to be going very well as its own self-contained event and just added positively to the general atmosphere. We would certainly visit again.

We are so thrilled to have The Ship Inn at Noss Mayo back to its best! The new managers, Josh and Lottie, have truly transformed the place. They’re absolutely lovely, and their warmth really shines through the staff, who are always smiling and eager to help. Nothing is ever too much trouble! The addition of the colouring-in table for kids is a brilliant touch—it keeps the little ones entertained while we relax. The outdoor areas are looking cleaner and more inviting than ever. The food has definitely stepped up a level, especially with the new specials that never fail to impress. The introduction of table service is a fantastic idea, and for such a young team, they are doing an incredible job. We couldn’t be happier—it’s wonderful to have our beloved local pub back in such capable hands!

Whisper it but we may be getting our pub back! Ate here this week after several poor experiences with food and service since Young's took over and had a great experience. As Noss Mayo residents, we feel The Ship is an important part of village life so when Josh, the new General Manager, welcomed us and introduced himself and his plans to make the pub great again, we were encouraged... And he didn't disappoint.. everything on the menu was available, the food itself was excellent and the service first class. Welcome to Noss Josh and Lottie, keep up the good work.... please!

We’ve been walking across the coast for the past 3 days and this was the best meal of the lot! Murray the chef had his birthday when we popped in and made us the best burgers we’ve had!! Get that man a beer!!

Two stale sandwiches served to us with poor tasteless fillings and a meagre ‘side salad’ . Surprised and disappointed as have enjoyed several tasty meals in the past . Difficult to mess up a simple sandwich so no excuse really ! Such a shame as we were given a friendly welcome and the sun was shining making their alfresco dining area such a beautiful place to be !

We were a large group visiting for dinner. We had a table upstairs, where it was quite dark - some of us resorted to phone cameras to read the menu! Once seated there was a lengthy wait until we could order, then another long wait for food. The food was not as it was with the previous owners - excessive salt on the Cumberland sausages, no detectable crab in the crab linguine. Other than that, it is still a special place to visit. A cold beer on the deck in the sun is still great. Just wait until they improve the food before booking dinner.

Had a lovely lunch at the ship, food was on the pricey side for an average meal. However it was worth it due to the impeccable skills of Felix, our server. Great customer service, but the food could do with some work.

Genuinely one of the best pubs in Devon! Lovely atmosphere, we drive around 40 mins for an evening here. We always have a brilliant time at the ship! The staff are so lovely! Especially Carly and Georgie!

A return visit, but the first since the change of ownership. We arrived before midday, not having a reservation, but were seated easily on a quiet day. There were only two staff and service was a little slow, but nothing to moan about. I'm not sure what the reason was; the first sunny day for quite a while, the first weekday of the half term holiday, but suddenly the place was inundated and the staff, who obviously weren't expecting it, just couldn't cope - there was queue out of the door! Everything unravelled from there. Luckily our order had been taken and our food arrived in good time, but another drink or a cup of coffee would have taken forever, so I paid and left! The food was OK, but not what it used to be. The place remains very much the same, but taken as a whole the experience was not as good as usual. I'll go back again, just to see if this was a one off, but I do think Young's Brewery needs to be more on the ball here. I should add, the staff were both very friendly and helpful, but were just overwhelmed.

Fabulous location, dog friendly pub. Very welcoming staff, the pub itself has a great lively feel even though I’m here off season so it was quiet, apparently, felt pretty lively to me. I had one of the best Caesar salads I’ve ever eaten. It actually had chicken, anchovies (fresh which I’ve never eaten before and want more thank you) Parmesan and dressing you could taste. Yummy! Lemon posset, lemmomey and creamy with a home made biscuit which was almost as good as my Scottish mother in laws! I’ll be going back during the week perhaps to try the fresh anchovies on the menu.

Beautiful location but each time I visit I find the food really lacking! Great pub to stop and have a drink and the setting itself is gorgeous so I would certainly recommend on that basis. Staff are friendly too. I can’t give the food a good rating though as I have visited several times and every time I’ve left disappointed. The food is edible certainly but the menu seems uninspired and the food itself just lacks and could be done better at home. Shame really as great food would really elevate this place. Oh and the food prices (while I appreciate Noss Mayo is a more expensive area) do not match the quality of what you’re being served sadly, far too expensive!

Visited for lunch - 2 adults and 1 dog. Friendly, polite and efficient staff - Billy especially. Fantastic and delicious food - Day Boat Fishcakes and Rump Steak & Chips; Vanilla Ice Cream and the Affogato. Lovely pub, location, and atmosphere. Well kept beers - specifically a pint of Mew Stone. Fabulous time.

Lovely setting . Ordered the roast which cost £20. Lots of beef , nice veg hidden under a giant Yorkshire pudding! Disappointing roast potatoes . The meal was luke warm, I ate it all though.

We arrived on a very busy bank holiday Monday. Despite being very busy the staff were fantastic and welcoming although the kitchen was no longer taking orders. We returned the following day and again experienced a very warm welcome and smile from the lovely staff. We had booked a table and enjoyed some fantastic food both main courses and dessert. This pub is a great find, the staff are a real credit to the pub, the location is idyllic and the food fantastic. Thank you!

Excellent lunch out with friends. Used to live in the area many years ago and have visited The Ship on numerous occasions. Not too busy, friendly welcome, shown to our table upstairs. Many interesting items, photos and pictures of the local area from the past and more recent are on display, Food delicious, 2 fish and chips, a burger and a ploughman's, the ploughman's especially was good, quite a large portion, tasty cheese and a lovely pickle. Not enough room for desert unfortunately. Reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.

Came for dinner Saturday night. We was seated in the library room… this was a fantastic cosy space. The atmosphere was delightful. We were very well looked after service was excellent. A lovely lady looked after us very well and was so friendly and also had a great sense of humour. We had while you waits which came out pretty much instantly. Our mains were excellent. We had the Plaice and haddock and chips. Definitely recommend The Ship. We will be back!

Having gone to The Ship many times over the last 5 years and been very impressed everytime, we wanted to try it out under its new ownership. Food took an hour to arrive. Food quality for all 4 different meals was quite poor and overpriced. Asked for parmesan for pasta dish and gravy for sausage and mash, and were not able to provide either. Significant change since previous ownership, which is such a shame given it's beautiful location.

Beware of the tide. My family is disabled and after the tide surrounded the slip way, there was no way out except a tortuous climb up four flights of stairs and steps. Otherwise, we enjoyed the meal and surroundings.

Don’t be put off by the view from the rear/street. This pub faces the river, ina quite fantastic way.
