My husband and I took my parents to claytons for mothers day. The lady who took care of us couldn't do enough to help us and had an amazing energy! We booked the restaurant but let us choose where to sit downstairs as my mum didn't fancy trying the stairs. So the roast! It was beautiful! Between us all we had beef and pork. Both meats where cooked perfectly with the beef nice and pink. All the vegetables where lovely, with the potatoes and cauliflower cheese being especially tasty. All really well seasoned and very generous portions. I never write reviews so this shows how good the roast was. Really hope claystons do more roasts as we will be regulars!!

The Hunters was just a short drive from our holiday home and had been recommended by people staying in an adjacent cottage. You will note that almost all the reviews rave about the Sunday carvery, as did our neighbours. We went mid week and ordered from the main menu. I had a duck and orange pate which consisted of two large pieces of pate and three large pieces of lightly toasted bread. I deliberately left some of the delicious pate to leave room for my main course and dessert which were to follow. My wife had a crispy chilli beef starter. This was delicious and so tender. The portion size we thought was probably a little too much (I know, right !) and was sufficient that had it been paired with a portion of rice would have been enough for a main course, but I digress. For main course my wife had Hake on a bed of tomato and chorizo sauce with new potatoes and she raved about it. I had beef stroganoff which was excellent. The beef was flavoursome and tender but again too much in quantity for me (don’t worry it got doggy bagged up so wasn’t wasted). Dessert was ana Oreo cheesecake type affair for the wife (she loved it) and I had sticky toffee pudding with a caramel sauce and clotted cream. This again probably could have been halved in size and been sufficient but not wanting to let the side down I cleared my plate (it saves on the washing up so it’s like I’m helping out). The staff were very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. 3 courses and 3 glasses of wine went about £85’ish. Honest if you’re in the area give the Hunters a try and don’t just limit yourself to the carvery, the main menu has plenty of quality, freshly cooked food. Well done to the kitchen team 👏

We visited The Black Horse,s New Restaurant The Driftwood last evening with our family, and I have to say the new Restaurant is fabulous. The decor and arrangement of all the furnishings is brilliant. The menu is varied as is the wine and spirits list. The service and attention to detail is as good as we have seen, and we have been to a few restaurants. thank you, Grant, Dan, Liz and the rest of your team for a very enjoyable evening.

Good Friday, 1pm.... – after 3.5 hours of driving, everyone was hungry, so I decided to take a little detour and find somewhere to eat… and I was pleasantly surprised. A small café in the town centre, with a parking spot nearby. Nice appearance, good prices, and friendly service. Just one cook and a waitress, so if there are more people, you might have to wait a bit – up to 30 minutes. But it’s worth it. The food is tasty and good quality for the price. A lovely little spot. Good coffee, good curry, good English breakfast....

We are local and came here for my ‘big birthday’ meal. Extremely slow to get drinks to the table. Menu was ok but had run out of steak. Waitresses did try their best though. Therefore ordered the special ‘sharing platter’ to include a t-bone and whole lobster. Very disappointing for the £160 price tag. Very small lobster which had been taken out of its shell even though we were supplied with the implements to do so, creating a hope of a decent sized lobster, especially considering the price and a t-bone which had already been cut into pieces, presumably by an inexperienced chef who wasn’t confident in the cooking, surrounded by sides seemingly to make up the ‘value’. Shame, was looking forward to it but won’t be returning and will not be recommending.

This was a take away collection and their app determined the pick up time. The food was excellent but the wait to collect it was terrible about 20 minutes. I was there whilst other folk collected their meals. Such a shame as already said the food was first class.

Fabulous Carvery, we booked this in advance as we loved the idea of us being the williams family eating at the williams arms, it’s a short stop from the ruda park we were staying at and it was absolutely fantastic , all the meat options were delicious and we had never had venison before but it was so nice I wanted to go back for more but the wife wouldn’t allow it , the puddings were delicious, we are coming back to Devon next year and will definitely be heading back, I would recommend booking as early as possible as it does get very busy
