Enjoyed a really good supper here tonight. Lovely to see a village pub thriving - it was lovely and busy. The staff were great, very friendly and accommodating. Food was good - great pies/steaks! Portions were lovely and big! Loved the slogan of the pub ‘a small drinking village with a farming problem’

We had a lovely Sunday lunch and were welcomed in by happy, friendly, professional and accommodating staff. The Sunday lunch menu consisted of a choice of 3 roasts, plus two other choices and deserts. There wasn't a choice of starters, and no fish choice on the mains. We had heard that the portions here were very generous (they were), so we asked for our vegetables to be served separately, which they were. Thank you. We both had the beef, which was nicely cooked, but not very tender. The veg consisted of cauliflower cheese, parsnips, carrots, braised white cabbage, fine beans. Together with roasties, stuffing ball, lovely Yorkshire pud and gravy. All wonderful. We both had a dessert, which were also very generous. A choice of Devon cheese would have been welcomed. All in all we had a very good lunch, and the service couldn't have been better, thank you. The Crown is a glorious place to eat or drink, I only wished that we could have stayed closer, so as to just pop in for a few bevvies. Great beer by the way. We'll be back.

Just spoken to the rudest person on the phone regarding allergies on the menu. Avoid this place if you have a serious allergy as the 'man' I spoke to thinks children's allergies are an inconvenience. If I wasn't spoken to like something he stepped in, we would have booked a table and worked around the lack of allergy friendly menu. The staff member has put me off coming here indefinitely.

Great looking pub the waitresses were lovely. The meal was nice but the beef was very tough and those that had it took most of it home for their dog. We did have a problem with the menu and unfortunately this was not dealt with as we would have liked which did ruin the evening a little. Could have been more helpful.

Good selection of beers on tap including the local ale brewed in Ilfracombe Beach Blond. I was offered a sample and over the evening enjoyed a few. So pleased not to be the designated driver. Visited this establishment on 16/09/22 had a beautiful steak dinner and delicious dessert. Booked for the following evening and our preferred meal of liver and bacon was off the menu so opted for the Steak and ale pie -BIG MISTAKE - pastry so thin and over cooked disappeared on touching, the meat, in large chunks, was recycled and very dry, Vegetables hard as nails. SO disappointed. Both meals were returned almost untouched. Told the waitress who discounted the price of our drinks. Decided on apple and blackberry crumble which, when it arrived , was virtually inedible, the lumps of apple still had the skins and core visible, the ‘crumble ‘ was overcooked and resulted in a mush in the dish. A Very disappointing meal. We will not be returning !

My arancini (rice balls in spicy tomato sauce) was disappointing as the rice was boring and the sauce seemingly mainly tinned tomatoes; my partners shallot "tart" was simply a pastry base with caramelised onions placed on top - clearly not a tart !Mains of beef lasagne and scampi were good though the scampi were described as "wholetail scampi" which I assume means "small". Lovely roast dinner, everything was great even a proper gravy, the exception was the broccoli too hard to get your knife through almost rawn and one double meat order missing half the meat. However compliments to the serving female staff very attentive and quick to get condiments and an order of extra roast potatoes. Would recommend their Sunday roast, delicious, decent, roast potatoes perfectly cooked roast meats and a proper gravy. Great desserts worth every penny. We did order 2 tap waters after dessert and it’s was a funny colour and tasted different I think it gave us a bit of a funny tummy as not used to it… so maybe avoid tap water if not local.

Stunning food. Danny the chief (and waiter) makes virtually everything from scratch including his mouth watering slaw, fish gumbo source, sticky chicken wings. A real chief and NOT another “re heat pretender”. Everything food wise is stunning. This isn’t a poshed up bistro pub with fake interior, but a local pub that has swapped licensees a few times over the last couple of years (the current management are here to stay and returned after being here before) so the decor is a bit tired. But it is a REAL local Nth Devon Pub that serves stunning food. You’ll notice that good food in Devon, costs as much as the big cities (portion here are bigger), but blame the exchequer for that, quiet winters and expensive suppliers. It’s not a cheap meal, but when you want to eat something of much higher standard than you can cook at home, this is one of our go to places. Probably the best food in the whole area that has a mixed menu.
