We booked for three of us on a cold misty night in December. We had a very warm welcome from the team at Take Thyme and their service was great. The food was fresh, hearty and tasty. A wonderful local venue for a cosy meal. Thank you for having us!

This little tea room was the perfect place to stop. Everything was homemade and delicious (especially the scones!). Service was friendly and I would recommend to everyone to stop for food and especially if you are looking for a proper cream tea!!

It was my birthday and we booked a roast Sunday dinner from6.30pm. The food and service were exemplary and I was dismayed to hear negative comments from the diners next to us, which were both unfounded and unfair. I am a vegetarian since 1987 and the nut roast offered was without doubt the best I have ever tasted. Everything about this meal was superb and my compliments go to both the chef and the excellent waiting staff. Cannot wait to come again.

This place used to be the best in Barnstaple and we travel to India a lot every year, but now it’s bland tasteless and without the correct measure of spices. Last time we ordered six week ago had spices not now. We ordered paneer masala, chicken madras, pilau rice, sheekh kebab, saag paneer, tarka dahl, purata and veg samosa. Paneer masala bland no flavour although the paneer was spongy as it should be. Chickens madras we ordered medium hot no spice at all, no flavour nothing was bland as tomato soup if it was used with tandoori chicken. Pilau rice was cheaply made what poor people eat in India rice mixed with margarine to look like pilau rice but merely boiled rice with margarine added (even poor people in India mix with butter not cheap margarine). Sheekh kebab no spice bland no flavour awful. Saag paneer again no spices used again but the paneer was spongy and saag used was fresh. Tarka Dahl wasn’t Tarka Dhal it’s bland with no tadka it’s just boiled lentils bland and what Indians and is typically served during the mourning when someone dies in that part of the world. (Absolute no spice bland soup with tomato). Purata was ok as it should be and veg samosa was as usual frozen deep fried no issue with that. What the hell has happened to this place no spice bland rubbish food. We used to go here all the time food was magnificent but now it’s rubbish bland and you can do better with ready meals out of a super market. Also the via there menu on their website it worked out at £48 collection they said £54.95 £50 paid be aware the prices have gone up! Was great now bland rubbish no spice being used awful! We will not be going back ever!

We had a lovely lunch at the Commodore. The service was just the right mix of professional but friendly, not too pushy but not ignored either. We had a table with a lovely view which was helped by the day being sunny and warm. Our lunch was nicely presented and tasted great, I think it wasn't over priced compared to other pubs and restaurants in Instow but I think the Commodore has a nicer ambience. Definitely come back again, the only caveat is that the bar prices are maybe a bit higher than in the pub.

Disappointed with the ‘large’ cod for £9. I get that fish is expensive but we’re by the water and was expecting something bigger and with more taste. The chips tasted fine. Found the sausage and batter good but £3.50 slightly over priced (£2.50 is pretty standard for the sausage of this size). Curry sauce £2 was high for something that isn’t homemade and just microwaved.
