We've visited several times recently for drinks. It's always been very busy, particularly the outdoor area if the weather has been good. It is dog friendly both inside and out. The decor inside is good; interesting, modern and quirky. The staff are pleasant, service is good.

Had a fabulous meal for our lads 16th birthday. Food was amazing (I had the sea bass) and the service was great even though only two people serving all the tables. Price was excellent and we brought a cake with us which they even brought out with candles and everyone sang happy birthday. Can’t wait to go back again for more lovely food ❤️❤️❤️

Happened to stumble across this little gem on their opening night after being refurbished, great food, well presented and friendly.

A very excellent restaurant and the staff are very nice. I had breakfast and it was very delicious and varied. I also tried having grilled steak for dinner with them and it was very delicious beyond description. Thank you all

Went there twice today, 1st for some drinks at lunch time and returned for dinner. Had nachos main to share for a starter which was lovely. My husband had the lamb koftas, the portion was very generous and super delicious but the show stopper was the chef’s special 9’oz fillet which was absolutely fabulous, everything was very well seasoned and exceptionally cooked. Hands down the best steak I have had in a good while. Will be returning if we are ever in the area again. Props to the chef!

Spotted in CAMRA's good beer guide and recommended by a random local in the street, we popped in for a bite to eat and a beer. My burger was lovely and Mrs F enjoyed her Scampi. A good selection of food on the menu and drinks on the bar. A nice atmosphere inside with plenty of outside seating for a nice day. Definitely worth a visit.

Great find. Wide ranging menu including vegan options. Plus outside seating perfect for early evening.

Pub looks nice from outside with the garden. But Food was really not very nice. Would not recommend or go again.

Form over substance. Nachos disappointing but family enjoyed the chicken strips.

Really liked this place, good atmosphere - laid back but also welcoming. Staff were great, friendly and efficient. More of an adults place generally but I had my kids with me and they were really accommodating, son said the tuna baguette was best bit of his holiday 😆

We have been visiting Ilfracombe for many many years,and only stumbled across the Hip last year. We have just arrived home from our visit to ilfracombe and have visited The Hip 4 times this week for food and drink,and can honestly say the food,service and staff are 10/10. The quality of the ingredients are exceptional,the bar staff and waitress' all served us with smiles and the man I believe to be the owner shows exactly what customer service should be like,he had a great rapport with all his customers and nothing was too much trouble. We have found our new favourite place to eat whilst on holiday,and the added bonus of them being dog friendly.

Amazing find of a place! Thought it was a bit pricey till the mountains of freshly cooked food arrived at our table. We had a food allergy to contend with but the landlord was great, checking with the chef to make sure we hadn't picked unsuitable dishes. Photo is of the Korean Bbq Chicken Naan which was amazing! Staff were friendly, service was quick and the food fresh and tastey. Portions seem to be generous no matter what you order, couple next to us had salads and they were massive, the ladies jaw hit the table when served to them. Will definately be back!

One of the many places to visit for a great selection of food and beers and a friendly atmosphere and a lovely seating area. Leave there feeling happy.

We stopped here as a family group as it had free WiFi so 8 could work, it also had the England football match on inside for the footy fans it had a gorgeous sun terrace out front very green and the food was amazing staff were super efficient and the food was phenomenal

Gem of a place. Friendly fast service, good selection of beers and excellent menu, including qn amazing choice of vegetarian and vegan options. I highly recommend the wraps and the salads. 🍻👍

Lovely beer garden out the front, which is dog friendly, where you can sit & watch the world go by. Amazing food which is very reasonably priced and super friendly staff too. Dog friendly inside as well. Highly recommended.

Just opposite the hotel we were staying in. Had great vegan and veggie options (I went for the vegan lamb kebab) . And a good range of beers. What's not to like?

Lovely little pub, plenty of seating outside the front in the sun, not too expensive, I had the Nachos (£13.95) with chilli beef, which was served on a huge plater, which the 3kids ended up eating ( the 3 didn't want anything to start with) I didn't get look in, hubby had the steak baguette & fries (£9.95) which he said was delicious

OMG what a sunday roast! topped off with wine and Biscoff cheese cake! I highly recommend this place for food, drink and atmosphere

Good Food, Prices good for food and drinks.

Such a lovely little pub with amazing food on offer, great prices for huge portions. They also support the local community through an initiative where you donate money and the match it, this money then enables those down on their luck to pop in and eat for free.

Popped in for drinks to watch the rugby. Lively place. Staff were great. Food looked lovely although we didn't eat.

Amazing food in a great location. We were looking for somewhere to eat and came across the hip and pistol. We had the van helsing burger and the cod bites panini. All food was freshly prepared and piping hot when it got to us. Flavours and taste just amazing. If you are in ilfracombe then definitely head here.

Excellent great beers food superb

First look at the menu didn't appeal to me but the specials menu had salmon and prawn risotto. Let me tell you it was absolutely delicious. The young lady who served us was charming.

First time I have ever visited this little jewel, was made to feel very welcome and the food and service was excellent. Very well laid out, great decor, just a perfect atmosphere. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

We had a table of six (lucky to get in) on a Saturday evening. Food was outstanding great selection of beers & cocktails.

Nice place. Randomly popped in with my toddlers in tow. Really warm welcome. Well priced. Food was quick and very good. Bar area had some customers who were using profanity and the bar staff told them there were children present. All in all really nice. Thank you.

Fantastic food at fair prices. Nice selection of beers, they poured one of the better pints of Guinness that we've had recently. My partner enjoyed the scotch that they had on offer too!

I love the hip, brilliant front facing beer garden and an absolutely sound landlord, its a Tiny pub and I do mean Tiny in side the bar area but with a great beer garden down at street level and truly great atmosphere which stems from Nick who is a great no nonsense Landlord with his head firmly screwed on.

The manager is definitely running a tight ship. Staff are quick and courteous even at the most busy of times - 4.30pm Sunday, 27th August. Great atmosphere inside and out. We didn't eat this time but the food looked delicious so we will go back for that. I just wish I knew where the diver coat hooks came from. Such a quirky addition to the decor.

A great little gem we discovered today as we walked into Ilfracombe! En route to the main town its on the left on split level outside seating and a pub at the back! Great sun trap, great light bites served by friendly attentive staff! Today we had a lovely youngster (a boy of about 12 to 14) serving our food, what a pleasant young chap who even asked if we had everything we need! Brilliant! We had a bacon 🥓 sandwich and a sausage baguette and both were a good size and very tasty with a nice side salad to accompany it! I had a really lovely lunch 😋

Visited yesterday for a family breakfast (7 people). Service was great as usual and the breakfast was so tasty and excellent value. The veggie sausages were the best we’ve ever had and the coffees included were really nice and everything was hot and super fast service. Definitely recommend

Found this great pub whilst visiting Ilfracombe and looking for lunch. Very tasty food and well kept beer, very reasonably priced too. Portions generous - my lamb kofta was delicious but I couldn't finish it! Light bites also suitable for kids or they will do smaller portions of the main menu for children too. Service friendly and efficient. Nice little terraced garden area where you can eat outside. Very pleasant visit, would recommend.

You know when you think you need a full English but also think you shouldn't have one? Go to Hip & Pistol (Hip@no 8) and order a sausage, egg and hash brown wrap. Trust me, it's what you need. And a cuppa (although mugs please, not cups and saucers!) Grab a table/share a table, order at the bar and enjoy.

Nic and the crew did a bang up job accommodating for our large group on a busy Wednesday evening. We had pre ordered the food after great, fast communication with the team and had been reserved a lovely spot in their beer garden. There was not a single complaint or whine from anyone in our group about the food. It was FANTASTIC! Great portion, everything cooked to perfection and a PROPER spicy sauce! The biggest win for me however is the quality of the service. The bar staff and waiting staff were incredible from start to finish and couldn't do enough for our group. I cannot recommend this place enough if you are visiting Ilfracombe.

Sat outside on hot day in shade , 3 of us... Good location near town centre I had tuna baguette Came with salad and homemade coleslaw. Very filling, tasty and reasonable price. Free drink soda water!!! WOWSERS... Others in party had good burgers and large portions. Staff friendly and helpful Inside seating available Didn't break the bank

Really clean and tidy beer garden that catches the sun beautifully. A lovely pub in the harbour area of Ilfracombe. Good selection of drinks and good service. Really lovely atmosphere. Good seating indoors and out. Would visit again.

A few TVs in the bar for sports watchers and a very large outdoor seated which is a sun trap. Dogs were allowed when we visited. Beers are good but would steer away from the 0% beer... Missus wasn't a fan of that... Shame 🤣🤣

One of the best burgers I've ever had (van helsing burger with chilli cheese + garlic mushrooms), and does a small selection of scrumpy too! Will return if in Ilfracombe again.

What a gem of a place. The vegan food was absolutely delicious. Friendly helpful staff. Lovely and clean. Wish we had more time in Ilfracombe to try all the dishes
