Queen Anne's Cafe on the Strand in North Devon

My first experience with this Cafe, to be honest I didn't realize it was there as I was always focused on the neighbouring cafe but I'm glad that I gave it a try as I was well impressed, not only with the food and the service, I was really surprised as to how big it was with plenty of seating available inside and outside. The staff were really friendly and helpful so I would definitely recommend this Cafe.

Disappointed with the chowder, it was more like a soup with a few chunks of fish in it, the best bit was the little bread roll that came with it. I should have sent the dish back as It wasn't worth the money but I was with a large party. Also the acoustics in the living larger dining room aren't good, it can be very echoey. I can't say that I will be rushing back.

Lovely food in relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff

We stopped off for a full English breakfast on a random visit to Barnstaple. It was perfect that we could sit outside yet undercover, as I personally struggle with the noise and / or music inside a lot of cafes. I got a nice view from the outdoor seating area too, of the river and bridge and hills. The breakfast was delicious, good quality produce, and all for a very reasonable price. It was a novelty to have quality flavourful loose leaf herbal tea too! I usually just get a cheap tea bag. The staff were just the right amount of friendly and all greeted us. The toilets and the cafe itself were clean and well maintained. No parking, but there is a pay and display car park right nearby. Would highly recommend, and we’ll be back!

A beautiful historic building houses this home from home cafe overlooking the river Taw. Lovely river views out the back, with loads of indoor and outdoor seating. A great selection of well-priced freshly made dishes, and they make a great latte!

What a lovely little find! Just strolling past and decided to stop at this cafe on an outside table. We had the special haddock and seafood chowder and both were beautifully cooked and presented and at a reasonable price. Staff lovely and friendly. Would thoroughly recommend.

We contacted Queen Anne's about catering for our wedding after contacting a few other places and they were the only business who got back to us and offered to meet us to discuss what we were after. They have been super helpful all the way through. We were expecting it to be quite expensive as it was for a wedding but found the costing really reasonable. The food itself was so good that our guests were raving about it all the following day and asking where Queen Anne's is so they could eat there themselves! They delivered the food to our venue but when visiting Queen Anne's the atmosphere felt really welcoming. We just couldn't fault anything so thank you Paul and Sam!

Fabulous fresh fish, simply but excellently cooked. Lovely location by the river. Bacon & sausage bap and fruit smoothie also great. Sensible prices too. A lovely lunch stop.

Visited while on holiday. Friendly staff, lovely views of the river. Had really nice sandwiches, chips, and REAL tea, what a lovely tea it was, too.

Only had a coffee and a bacon roll here, but it was excellent and served with a smile. Recommended

Always pleased with the food and coffee from here, the benches on the grass looking over the water, very clean, fast service, staff are always friendly and seem to have a smile on their faces. They do one of the best coffees in town here and the breakfast has local produce and is cooked well plus if you fancy a change they do a fantastic pancake stack! The price is reasonable too especially for the quality you get and for the dog walkers they provide a bowl of water outside by the benches.

Super helpful, as I had a bike that meant I couldn’t order inside. They were lovely and accommodated me ordering from my table. Also lovely and got extra cutlery for my young son :)

Okay food, staff could do with a little bit of training and organisation, but on the whole nice little cafe to have a bite to eat with good options for all. They do a lovely cup of coffee.

I always come here when I am in Barnstaple. They have lovely food. I go for lunch. Always have a sandwich which comes with salad. They also have tea leaves which l love. A nice pot of tea for one. I will look forward to the next time I visit.

An reliable more formal style restaurant. It's an old government (?) style building but more casual these days. It's setting is near the river with outside seating. The service is always a pleasant experience and this is our go to,reliable place. The food is always good no matter what you order from the extensive menu. The place is always clean and tidy both inside and out. There is whlchair access and restrooms tidy. Although there's no parking near this old building there are parking facilities a short walk away. Just a feel good old reliable place with fast service.

Note for dog owners this place is only dog friendly if you sit outside. It does not tell you that anywhere that we could see. We were told when we went to sit inside with our dogs.

We attended a party here recently, which had a 'Strictly' theme and it was fabulous! It is a beautiful setting for a party and looks so classy. The food was delicious, a perfect blend of Mediterranean treats and even sausage rolls for the children. The staff were so accommodating and made us feel so welcome. The dance floor is perfect and I would recommend Queen Anne's Cafe to anyone looking for a party setting.

Lovely historical building now a cafe/diner. Popped in for a breakfast and was surprised at the menu. Something for everyone with alot of choices. Clean and tidy. The staff were friendly and efficient, good service. Family friendly, good for all ages. The breakfast options are good. I had the fish chowder on the specials board, excellent. Overall a good experience. One downside, I did not like the tea, I think it was made from tap water, if you drink tea with no milk or sugar I would not recommend that.

Came down from Reading for a party here last weekend. The venue was stunning. The food was delicious and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. Its a shame I don't live closer as I would be a frequent visitor! Keep up the good work.

Attended a private function here, food was good, service great and felt welcomed as soon as arrived.

We only ever go to Queen annes for lunch and have done for a few years and normally the food is spot on...on this occasion it wasn't...I ordered jacket potato with prawn Marie Rose sauce...there were no sauce on the prawns and the prawns were full of water which wasn't nice...I ate it as it wasn't cheap for a jacket potato...I told a member of staff when they came to collect our used plates and she said she would inform the kitchen...when we sat down on first arriving normally the staff are very good but my partner had to go and ask staff if we could order...I gave 3 stars for food as we had cake afterwards which was lovely as always...no one came to offer a small refund for the awful prawns...I maybe well find somewhere else to go for lunches

This was mine and my wifes first time at the Queen Anne Cafe after it Being recommended to us, we weren't disappointed, friendly service and quality delicious food, yum.

Amazing place for food quick service

Went here with my parents and husband for food a couple of weeks ago and service,food and price was all outstanding will definitely be going back again when visiting my parents.

On a sunny afternoon with the tide in, it was glorious - and hard to believe we are well into October !

Love it when a place serves breakfast all day 👌 A very lovely interior, wasn't expecting it to be so big, lovely high ceilings with large old photographs of when the old shops used to dock. Had a very tasty English breakfast, daughter had a vegetarian breakfast. Service was excellent, friendly and attentive, just perfect ☺️ Will be visiting again, thank you.

What a lovely place to stop off and have a cup of tea or coffee with a piece of cake or sandwich. Set beside the river Taw away from the hustle and bustle of the High Street this was well worth the visit. Staff were amicable and friendly, service was quick and we were unrushed to depart. Really lovely venue!

Afternoon tea for my wife's birthday was booked on the same day and a wonderful afternoon we had, excellent sandwich selection, with mini quiches, cakes were moreish with of course scones, cream and jam. We ended up with a doggy bag to go. Sat outside in the shade very pleasant ambiance and top notch service with a wonderful smile. My only problem is we are visitors to the area, need a shipment up north. Thankyou for a nice afternoon

Great café in lovely surroundings by the Estuary in Barnstaple. Sit inside or outside if the weather is good. Staff are helpful and friendly. Scones are delicious.

We saw a cafe by the river on Google Maps, so aimed for this one. Family lunch with a grown up son and teenage daughter. The service was good, the place was cool (very historic) but not really any views of the river. The food was good but not real chips, so they lost a star from me for this.

Waited over 45 minutes to be served ,when the food came the food wasn’t cooked properly after given the choice I asked for a refund which was given back with attitude and my money slammed on the table, will not be going again

Tepid cappuccino and a forgotten tea cake! Dissapointing

We only popped in for a coffee, which was nice. The surroundings were really lovely. Good options for inside and outside tables. The only thing which stopped five stars was that we had to wait quite a while to place our order, despite it not being busy. What we loved was that, when the waiter brought our bill, he brought the card payment machine at the same time so we didn't have a further wait to pay.

Never disappointing - Recommend the Queen Anne's full English - Staff are always friendly and make our two cockerpoo's welcome (outdoors for dogs)
