Chichester Arms in North Devon

We're local and have eaten here many times, as a couple and as part of a large group and it's always a treat. We were there with our daughter this evening. The pub is warm, welcoming and buzzing with a great atmosphere. The staff were really attentive and efficient even though the pub was very busy. Our meals were fantastic. Generous portions of home cooked delicious hearty food. Very reasonable prices too. Thank you for a lovely dining experience and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

It’s most beautiful pub, lovely old stone beams and slate. A great atmosphere. The guys behind the bar were fantastic and the food was brilliant. It was a lucky find and we were totally delighted with our visit.

Great food and service last night. Beautiful old pub. Proper big delicious portions, well worth the money. Steaks gammon belly pork all to die for. Also I had a creme brulee my absolut fav dessert ever, and this was the best, better than Raymond blanc. 5 stars will be back and will tell everyone ✨️ all the staff are so cool and very friendly 😎

We went to the Chichester Arms for Sunday roast last week. We enjoyed it so much we went back this week and we weren't disappointed. Fabulous food and service make this a no-brainer if you want a really good roast.

Simply put, this was the best pub or restaurant Sunday roast I've ever had! Very generous portions and cooked to perfection. Absolutely superb. Great friendly service, we'll be back!

Went for Sunday Lunch, was pleased we booked as was very busy. But we soon realised why, the atmosphere was welcoming and the food was delightful we all had a lovely afternoon.

I've been to the Chichester arms a few times now for the Sunday roast and I can honestly say that it never disappoints, by far the best pub roast I've had. Staff are very friendly helpful and accommodating. Always look forward to going back.

Excellent food and service and also dog friendly.

There is a wide and varied menu. The dishes are plentiful, well cooked and of good quality. The cider is recommended. The desserts are exquisite, especially the cakes.

Popped in for a light lunch today. Nice selection on offer for good and drink, nice outside area at front to eat in etc

We came for a meal here with some family from up country that we hardly ever see and we were absolutely disgusted by the service we received. The waitress was beyond rude, she never bothered to take a drinks order whilst we were being served our main. She rolled her eyes at us when collecting our starter plates whilst my sister in law wanted to finish the last bit of one of the starters. We then requested for some drinks because it was evident that she wasn’t going to take one. She never checked to see if we enjoyed our meal. She then cleared our plates and never asked whether any of us wanted desserts or anymore drinks. We left a 20 minute gap to see if she would actually bother and when asking for the dessert menu she said we couldn’t have any because the kitchen closed 10 minutes ago. We were willing to spend a lot of money on a three course with drinks as well to spoil our family and we were really looking forward to coming here because the food is superb. Our entire visit to this lovely restaurant was completely ruined by a rude blonde member of staff that evidently despises her job. I suggest this pub removes this member of staff before she ruins your business.

Great place compliments to the chef, the food was fantastic Cheers to barstaff and waitresses, great all round team.

Stopped off for lunch. Steak and ale pie was delicious. The smoothest mash. My husband said his fish and chips were perfect. Generous portions. Cosy local atmosphere. Staff were lovely. My dog even got a biscuit from the young lady.

Fabulous food, great value. Still a very popular venue, book early, especially for the Sunday roast.

This place is a hidden treasure. I had steak and ale pie 🥧 its the best ive had in ages. The atmosphere was just warm, cozy and inviting.

Met up with family for Sunday lunch and enjoyed the most delicious and generous roast beef with all the trimmings. Very friendly staff made us and our dog very welcome.

Lovely early evening meal with hubby . Food, lovely, and good service . Sunday dinner had here before is excellent.

Lived in North Devon 17 years and can't believe I'd never been here before but is a great village pub.

I believe on the menu that it mentioned sandfire. I guess the price I was paying reflected this. Was a bit disappointed to see kale instead. Plus no explanation. OK it was new years eve. The waitress was unwilling ( it seems ) to serve coffee after our meal.

Lovely old traditional bar and restaurant on the outskirts of Barnstaple. Nice friendly staff, good service with a smile. .popped in for a quick bite at lunch but also recommended for evenings and weekends. Good for parties or a family get together. Good menu choices, the only downside is there is alot of pork on the menu. Nice wine and beer selection.

Average pub food... chips were only warm rather than hot. Vegan options were hidden at the far end of the room... too late for me. Average experience.

Absolutely loved it, found it on Google with some great reviews and it absolutely did not disappoint, fantastic service and drinks but more importantly the food was absolutely top notch, very impressed!!

Delicious Sunday roast, the beef was very tender. Hate to end on a negative, I wasn’t able to savour the delicious delights as the food was just warm on arrival. Could’ve been hotter then we’re talking 5*!

Just been for a Sunday roast. Absolutely AMAZING, portions huge, hubby had mixed roast & I had veggie option. Proper carvings of meat & a huge selection of freshly cooked veg. Extra gravy too :) Staff were lovely & very helpful. Found us a quiet area for our very nervous rescue dog. Thank you very much to all. Will definitely be back.

We had a lovely meal and the service as always was excellent.The only thing that left a bad taste (pardon the pun) was the lady stood at the bar vaping which I thought was not allowed having checked on this its up to the business.I didn't appreciate whilst trying to eat our meal that I was also tasting her particular flavor of vape

Lovely place fresh cooked food. Pleasent helpful staff. Honestly some of the best food I have tasted. Calvery is awesome and binoffie pie is to die for.

From the moment we walked in the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and even though the place was busy we didn't have to wait too long for it to arrive. Unfortunately we were in the area on holiday and only found this place on our last night, otherwise we would have been back to try more of the menu. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area. We were looking for a good, traditional country pub that served quality food, served it with a smile and did not overcharge us for the privilege. We found that here at the Chichester Arms. The chef clearly has some talent, and portion size was, well, reassuring; we had had enough of over- presented, high-priced, low quantity fare on our extensive travels. We ate on a Friday night, when the place was buzzing with the jovial hubbub of folk enjoying their evening with friends. The menu is delightfully varied with something for every taste. We will recommend to our friends and Family, and will return when in the area again....that's a no-brainer!

Great place for a well cooked, well presented meal. Or just a drink with friends. Good portions, comprehensive menu and friendly staff. We met up with old friends and all of us thoroughly enjoyed all the food we were served.

I recently visited The Chitch pub located in Bishops Tawton village and was thoroughly impressed with my experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with friendly staff. The highlight of my visit, however, was the food. As a party of 11, we all opted for the roast - with only one of us deviating from this choice. The roast beef was outstanding, perhaps the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. My family members also raved about the belly pork, which was cooked to perfection and had a delicious crispy crackling. The servings were incredibly generous, with stuffing, Yorkshire puddings, and a whopping 7 roast potatoes on each plate. My family and I left with full bellies and a little bit of embarrassment over the amount of leftover food we couldn’t finish. All in all, The Chitch is a fantastic pub that successfully combines great food with a warm and inviting atmosphere. I highly recommend giving it a try if you’re in the Barnstaple area.

Best Sunday roast I have had in a long time - better than anything in my native Bristol at least! Good service, friendly staff happy to help with any request and put up with kids running around and being kids. We sat next to the kitchen on a lovely old table and had the biggest roast I could imagine. Pork, beef and Turkey were all first class, with a brilliant nut roast for veggies. Plates came out full enough of food to fill you up, and that was before they brought out all the extra veg (including a brilliant cauliflower cheese). Only complaint would be that we were too full to even think about dessert, but I guess that saved us a bit of money at least. Decent selection of ales alongside the food as well. Couldn't recommend enough and can't wait for a return trip to Devon to try it again!

Spontaneous decision to eat out and treat ourselves to a Sunday dinner yesterday and I’m so glad we did! Amazing food (very reasonably priced too!), fantastic service, great atmosphere. Rolled home as literally couldn’t eat a morsel more. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

Arrived with no booking, they couldn't have been more welcoming, more friendly, or more efficient, the cannelloni was a touch overcooked, the duck I had was fabulous and a generous portion, have also tried the liver which also great. A fantastic pub

Friendly atmosphere, very good service, very good food, really couldn't fault it in any way, neither could the other 3 diners that attended. The menu is very diverse should be something for everyone. They had a few specials that all sounded lovely. I will definitely be coming back a few times as there is a few items that I would love to try. A little on the expensive side however you get what you pay for and you get massive portion size. I still believe it's worth it every penny.

Wonderful local pub. Very cosy and super friendly and attentive staff. I ordered the vegan fajitas and it was amazing. Probably the best vegan fajitas I've ever had. Delicious tofu, vegan cheese and mayo. Very impressive for a rural area pub. Highly recommend

It was very difficult to rate this hostelry as the food was great, as was the service, really friendly efficient young gentleman served us throughout, but it was so cold! I do appreciate everyone has to tighten their belts in the present climes, but it was a shame.
