The best restaurants in South West

We are on holiday and looked up the best roast dinner in Salcombe and this place (though in Kingsbridge) had a review left of exactly that - actually in the whole of South Hams. We reserved a table online and were seated straight away. We were looked after mostly by Amy who was a delight, gave us excellent recommendations and was genuinely passionate about the quality of ingredients as well as every element of our choices. The roast dinners were the best we have had in a long time including the veggie option, none of us could choose our favourite element as they were all delicious. Then it came to the desserts. Amy’s passion again shone through and we all enjoyed the lemon posset and chocolate cremeux as well as various ice creams, we particularly enjoyed the honey and ginger. The atmosphere was lovely, very chilled and the staff all seemed friendly and we would recommend everyone to give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

What a lovely evening we’ve had! From the moment we arrived, the service was amazing — so friendly and attentive. The setting is really classy, creating the perfect atmosphere for a special night out. The food was colourful, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. And the desserts… out of this world! You must try the jigsaw dessert — it’s a showstopper. A huge thank you to all of the team for looking after us so well. We’ll definitely be back very soon!

Always love this place. We managed to get away without spending anything! Those who have been will know how hard it is not to leave with a table's worth of wood. 😂

Wonderful place to visit. Came home with loads of fab wool from the craft supplies shop. Great advice and help from Tony in the wood shop. Interesting browse around the crafts for sale shop, followed by a very tasty lunch from the lovely ladies in the cafe. The frittata is the best!

Visit every time we are in Brixham. Food phenomenal as always - chef incredibly talented. Monkfish and prawn curry is exceptional. Small but perfectly formed restaurant - good rotation of special dishes too. See you again in May!

We had to wait a while for our tea and cake

Nice coffee, but I have been working my way around Bristol's coffee shops and I have had better. Still 100x better than a Nero/Starbucks/Costa though! Toasted banana bread was nice. Good atmosphere, and a great place to sit to work or watch the world go by.

It was my birthday and we booked a roast Sunday dinner from6.30pm. The food and service were exemplary and I was dismayed to hear negative comments from the diners next to us, which were both unfounded and unfair. I am a vegetarian since 1987 and the nut roast offered was without doubt the best I have ever tasted. Everything about this meal was superb and my compliments go to both the chef and the excellent waiting staff. Cannot wait to come again.

Really lovely burgers, truffle fries, fried chicken & their rainbow slaw is incredible! Smiths is a must try!!! And I recommend having an espresso martini too ☺️

We came with our son’s dog for a short break, all of us were made extremely welcome. Dog bowls, treats and bed were made available to us during our stay. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. Our room had a dual aspect and was bright and airy & beautifully furnished. The food and drinks were fabulous as were the staff who served them. Housekeeping was efficient and friendly. We would highly recommend this hotel and we will certainly be returning.

Lovely setting and ambiance. There was a delay with the food but the waiter advised us immediately and gave us the option and a complimentary starter - we weren't in a rush and happy to wait- great service. Food was lovely and good value.

Perfect place to stay while hiking the Limestone Link trail nearby. Clean, well appointed rooms at a very reasonable price. Food was excellent and locally sourced. Highly recommended.

Had a truly great experience at this restaurant last Friday, stunning building/style, you could see out to the beautiful rolling hills from our table and the food matched this, some really nice touches like aquaponic harvested asparagus and a lot of local herbs produce, the baked from the bread table was divine, also had probably the best cooked steak I can remember. Emma who looked after us, knew pretty much everything about all the food and where it came from and it’s story which was really cool to listen to.
